so...in August when we released HTBAHB....we threw a special party with the characters from the album and a small group of friends, family and fans in LA at the legendary Village Studios with TUMBLR...where some of our heroes made some of our favourite records. Beach Boys, The Doors, John Lennon, Fleetwood Mac, Dr Dre & Snoop Dogg. While we were there, we made a little record of our own. We played a few of the new songs during the party, and we recorded them through the same equipment our heroes used. we mixed and mastered it digitally for spotify. and im excited to announce that it is released TODAY. I hope you enjoy. it was an amazing evening that I'll never forget.

Glass Animals • Tumblr IRL • Los Angeles • 8/31/16

Bringing an album to life at a Tumblr IRL had yet to get THIS literal. 

The characters pictured in the Glass Animals’s new album and videos added a whole new dimension, inviting fans to be Human Beings with them. With a background of 8 bit projections from the minds of Whoopi (@whoopthis​) & Myk (@myk31​), the band (@glassanimalsband​) performed their new songs on stage in a world made from their imagination. 

Graced with some oldies, and hit hard with new music that could only make them dance, those in attendance at The Village Studios in LA didn’t just get a show. They got to truly experience the album.

It’s out today. wow.

Its called How to be a Human Being and its about people. The idea came from a bunch of recordings I made of conversations. I found that while we were on tour strangers would open up and tell me things they probably wouldnt tell their closest friends. I started recording it all. amazing things, heartbreaking things, weird things, hilarious things. In november i sat down and listened to everything i had back to back. i started obsessing about the way people told stories. what people talk about, what they exaggerate, what they leave out, what the story actually means, and what all of that said about who they were as people. It all made me want to create my own characters and my own stories and hide a little bit of myself in each one. the guys and I talked about the idea and they were all down. each song a different character and a different story.

we started the record as soon as tour finished mid december last year. I went straight from the airport to the studio and locked the door for a week and a half. after ten to fifteen days of superintense work the demos were done. it was incredibly lucky to have a creative burst like that but I think having a strong idea of what the record had to say made it come out incredibly quickly. we then spent a couple months experimenting on those demos. in a few cases we ended up realising that the demo captured a spontaneity and an energy that we couldnt recreate in the studio. So a lot of what you hear on the record are those raw, rushed, spontaneous recordings from that first fortnight. and a lot is the result of us pulling a song apart and tinkering as a band. we’ve put our blood sweat and tears into it. sometimes quite literally. from the artwork to the videos to the live show, to the set design, to the production, and most importantly the words and music.

Cant wait for you to hear it and I cant wait to play it all live for you.
