books, i love them
life has its weird ways, whenever i go astray i come across useful advice for me in books. let me give some instances to make my point clear. when covid started i started spending an unhealty amount of time on electronic devices and i came across fahrenhiet 451, a dystopian science fiction novel, set in a future where people are so consumed by devices(like a drug) that they are devoid of emotions, opinions, and relationships. it felt horrifying to read, because of the similarities in the characters in it and myself, and so from then on i have tried to decrease my screen time as much as possible Sometime later, i got introduced to the wonderful world of chess, i enthusiastically started learning the game, found useful resources online and poured myself completely into it, devoting myself to become a better chess player, to a point that i used to ignore my responsibilities at home and get so absorbed in the game that i paid no heed to my duties, and lo, i land on a short story by munshi premchand, titled “shatranj ke khiladi” (translating to “chess players”), this short story was a piece of social commentary set in lucknow in age when the east india company started spreading all throughout india, and the mughal rule in lucknow was under threat, people of lucknow were ones who were absorbed in pleasures and games, chess being one of them, this story covers the fanatic and almost real-like story of two enthusiastic players of chess, who ignore everything in life to idly play chess all the time, here too watching the similarities between myself and the players, reminded me to dabble in my passion moderately.

A Ruthless Need - Catherine Cookson - Review
A fresh take. Mainstream WW2 media is dominated by men and their heroics. This book looks at the lives of women during the war, mothers waiting for news about their children, wives anxiously looking out for calls from their husbands, the excitement of receiving letters, the mourn that follows news of death. This book has several interesting arcs, a lowborn girl when given the chance blossoming into a wonderful person, a scandalous affair, and the plight of men affected by war.
