at   finley's   quick   quip   ,   all   mason   can   do   is   roll   his   eyes in response   ,   but   the   smile   that briefly appears betrays   the   annoyance   he   tries   to   show.   as   always   ,   he's   immediately   relaxed   &   content   to   see   finley   here   now   ,   &   even   more   pleased   that   he   takes   a   seat   beside   him   ,   meaning   he   doesn't   have   to   pretend   to   schmooze   or   talk   to   anyone   else   at   the   table   read   anymore.   it's   not   that   he   doesn't   like   to   chat   with   other   people   ,   but   seeing   as   how   he   doesn't   know   many   of   the   people   here   ,   a   lot   of   them   are   trying   to   sell   themselves   or   are   pretending   to   be   interested   in   him   a   little   too   much   for   comfort.   mason   understands   it's   a   hard   business   to   work   in   &   selling   yourself   is   the   only   way   ,   but   sheesh   ,   it's   just   a   table   read.   they   already   booked   the   job   ,   he   wished   the   rest   of   the   cast   would   just   relax.   oh   well.

'do i look like a dior man to you, mason? it's clearly gucci,' a big and wry smile is given to the other man as he watches mason take a large gulp from the coffee cup. it was clear the two of them were, possibly, too used to table reads and how these things started. neither of them got dressed up anymore, for these occasions, knowing that wearing comfortable clothes to sit in an uncomfortable chair for a couple of hours was the only way to go. the rest of them would learn, eventually. this is their job, so of course they'd take it seriously. just not too seriously.

taking a swig from his own cup, fin glances over mason with an admiring gleam in his eye, and he's not trying to hide it. whatever speculation hollywood had about what was going on between the two of them didn't bother finley, at all. 'nervous? with you around? nah - honestly, this is the best case scenario,' they were already friends, they weren't awkward around each other, they already had good repour and loved bantering back and forth with one another. had it been a total stranger, that would be a different story. as it were, fin felt very at ease knowing that he would be standing opposite mason greene, again. 'prepare to be woo'd, courted, and any other word that would work in this sentence,' grin grows as he goes to take his seat.

it's   impressive   how   quickly   sebastian   picks   up   on   how   to   trim   the   leaves   ,   beaming   as   he   successfully   begins   removing   the   leaves   from   the   plant   as   if   he's   been   doing   it   for   years.   clearly   he   needs   to   ask   him   for   his help   more   often   ,   but   even   if   he   wasn't   particularly   good   at   this   ,   he   would   probably   still   ask   him   to   come   over   anyway.   after   all   ,   he   can't   deny   the   little   crush   that's   been   blossoming   since   their   brief   interactions   &   hang   outs   lately   ,   so   any   moment   he   can   spend   with   sebastian moran   ,   he   gladly   will   take   the   chance.   as   they   begin   working   in   silence   ,   sebastian   then   brings   up   the   topic   of   the   flower   dance   again   ,   &   then   asks mason   if   he'd   like   to   go   with   him.   the farmer   is   a   little   surprised   by   how   forward   &   bold   his   neighbor   is   being with such an innocent ask   ,   but   then   he   begins   to   stammer   &   reassure   mason   that   he   doesn't   have   to   say   yes or go with him as a date   ,   &   the   more   sebastian   talks   on   &   on   ,   the   more   flattering   &   adorable   mason   finds   it.   for   a   man   who   looks   &   carries   himself   the   way   he   does   ,   he   still   finds   himself   nervous   &   shy   at   times.   it's   positively   charming   & melts mason's heart completely , &   without   really   thinking   about   it   ,   mason   leans   in   forward   to   gift   the   teacher   a   gentle   kiss   on   the   cheek   ,   moving   away   just   as   quickly   ,   their   eyes   holding   their   gaze   as   he   feels   his   own   cheeks   burn   from   his   actions. the kiss was brief , but he's never felt his heart race like this before. he makes me feel so many things & it's only been a few weeks.   ❝ i'd   love   to   go   to   the   flower   dance   with   you   ,   ❞   mason   affirms   ,   smiling   brightly.   ❝   in   fact   ,   i've   been   kinda   hoping   you'd   ask   me.   been   wanting   an   excuse   to   dance   with   you   for   ages.   ❞

the greenhouse is spotless and painstakingly kept up, the floor swept, the plants tended to, and the warm air soothing and refreshing. sebastian loves stepping inside, loves watching mason grab them gloves and aprons before they get to work. he ties the apron around his waist, adjusts the neck strap, and eases his gloves over his hands. "ready to work," he announces, beaming. they continue to discuss the upcoming flower dance, and sebastian slowly works up the courage to breach the awkward space and ask him what he really wants. "well. maybe you could go with me. we could dance together." sebastian crouches beside @greenelight in the greenhouse and examines the way he removes each leaf, quickly taking his lead and doing the same to the next plant. "if i asked you to go with me," he continues, "would you say yes? it could be..." he pauses. "i mean, we could just go as friends if that's what you prefer, but we could also make it a date if you were into that." his eyes are on the bucket beside them, on the leaves they work from the plants, trying to smother down the nerves bubbling to life in his chest. "but regardless, i'd love to dance with you at one point. i'm rather good; i took ballroom dance lessons back in the city when i lived there, so i can guide you through it. you don't have to worry about stepping on my feet or anything — i won't judge you for any mistakes, of course. just being there with you would be nice." they're shoulder to shoulder, crouched, tugging leaves from the plants, and at last sebastian glances to his side and find mason's eyes. he prays he finds joy, not disgust, not discomfort. "think about it," he adds quickly. "you don't have to say yes right now. maybe there's someone else in town you'd rather dance with, and that's all right. i'm... i'm an option." sebastian moves the bucket and eases to the next plant. "if you want."

everyone   in   the   room   seems   desperate   to   make   a   good   first   impression   with   the   director   &   the   producers   of   this   film ,   &   then   there's   mason   ,   feet   propped   up   on   the   table   as   he   reads   through   his   script   ,   just   ready   to   finish   so   he   can   run   off   &   work   on   other   things   for   the   day.   it's   not   that   he   doesn't   want   to   do   this   film.   in   fact   ,   he   couldn't   be   more   excited.   he's   done   a   movie   with   finley   stevens   before   &   the   whole   time   on   set   was   a   blast   &   it's   one   of   his   most   positive   film   experiences   to   date.   now   they   were   back   on   a   movie   again   ,   with   the   two   of   them   starring   opposite   each   other   as   romantic   interests.   it's   definitely   a   step   away   from   the horror   &   action in the last film they made   ,   but   mason's   more   than   ready   to   jump   into   the   role.   plus   ,   it's   his   first   romantic   film   not   with   a   female   actress   ,   so   that's   exciting   for   him   too.

finley, as an actor and director, enjoyed challenging himself - but even this was miles outside of his comfort zone. the fact that this role had even been offered to him - and actually, written specifically for him - stunned finley. but he couldn't turn it down. especially after learning who his costar and love interest would be. any opportunity to work with mason greene, finley would gladly take.

the cast is getting ready for their first table read, and where the supporting actors look put together and professional, fin rolls up dressed in a hoodie and baseball cap, dark circles under his eyes as he carries two cups of coffee he picked up on the way. this is not his first rodeo, and everyone knows it.

❝   it's   a   great   painting   ,   isn't   it   ?   ❞   these   sorts   of   art   exhibits   don't   usually   gain   a   ton   of   traction   ,   so   when   a   newcomer   does   find   themselves   hanging   around   ,   it's   easy   for   everyone   to   notice.   mason's   never   seen   this   woman   before   ,   but   based   on   her   attire   alone , he   can   assume   she   must   be   well   off   or   at   least   appreciative   of   the   arts   in   some   way.   for   his   artist   friends   ,   this   could   possibly   mean   their   pieces   could   be   sold   off   &   earn   them   a   bit   of   money   &   mason   is   all   but   ready   to   help   make   that   a   possibility   ,   if   he   can.   thank   god   he   loves   chatting   with   people   ,   as   it   makes   selling   his   friend's   artwork   a   heck   of   a   lot   easier.

❝   be   gentle   with   me   ,   this   is   my   first   time.   ❞   the   movie   star   has   to   hold   back   a   laugh   as   he   steps   up   to   the   microphone   in   his   own   little   private   recording booth   ,   hiding   his   nerves   through   silly   little   jokes   &   words.   he's   been   in   show   business   for   a   little   while   now   ,   but   he's   never   been   asked   to   sing   a   song   like   this   before   ,   &   never   with   an   already   established   pop   star.   he's   a   big   broadway   nerd   &   most   people   know   his   dream   is   to   eventually   act   on   the   stage   one   day   ,   but   he   hasn't   really   showcased   his   singing   ability   yet   ,   so   he's   a   little   nervous   that   many   people   may   not   like   it   or   worse   ,   compare   him   to   other   actors   who   could   probably   sing   better   than   him.

❝   so   i   went   on   that   date   with   that   guy   you   told   me   to   follow   up   with.   ❞   the   way   he   says   it   is   so   nonchalant   &   so   unserious   ,   but   it's   partially   because   he   just   feels   so   comfortable   talking   to   carol   about   these   sorts   of   things.   they've   really   come   a   long   way   from   the   slow   beginnings   of   their   relationship   ,   from   carol   being   undercover   to   now   revealing   her   secret as a former avenger   to   him.   it's   been   a   push   &   pull   of   adjusting   to   things   here   &   there   ,   but   overall   ,   they've   been   able   to   survive   it   all   together.   carol's   friendship   means   the   absolute   world   to   him   ,   &   while   her   keeping   her   real   identity   from   him   did   hurt   initially   ,   they're   long   since   past   it   now   &   can   actually   enjoy   each   other's   company   with   no   strings   attached   or   any   other   secrets   hovering   over   their   heads.   carol   accepts   him   as   he   is   with   no   judgements   or   questions.   he   can't   say   that   about   most   people   in   his   life   ,   therefore   he'll   do   anything   to   keep   this   peace   with   her   protected.
