this has probably been written about tons of times but i’ve been thinking a lot about sara/felice’s dynamic. as we know, their friendship started bumpy. felice was drowning in her insecurities and people pleasing, and snaps at sara a few times. but as we learn more about felice, like the amount of pressure she’s under, we also start to see her get kinder and kinder to sara. something that i found so interesting about her character is how she subverts the expectations of the “popular girl” and her actions show that. as she starts to get closer to sara, you see just how giving and generous she is.

that brings me to all the ways felice “gives” to sara. not only does she give her things, she also extends many acts of kindness. the motivations might be multifaceted, but ultimately i think her intentions are always good.

let’s begin with rousseau. from the get, it’s really obvious that felice doesn’t want to ride and that she’s actually not into horses at all. on the other hand, we see that sara really connects with rousseau. letting sara ride rousseau is mutually beneficial; it makes sara happy and rousseau is being taken care of.

she invites sara and simon to the movie night. as the viewer we know she probably did that to impress wille, but really, she didn’t have to do it if she really didn’t want sara to come- she’s genuinely starting to like her.

not only does felice give sara her dress, felice takes the barrettes right out of her hair to give to sara. very symbolic.

friendship! she invites her into her space. she genuinely wants to be friends with her.

i love this scene. when sara tells felice that august kissed her, felice immediately makes it about august being an idiot (so true) and doesn’t blame sara at all. in another “teen” show, this would have gone a totally different direction. felice would have put the blame on sara and it would be a whole thing. i really love yr’s take on female friendship. i think her reaction here says so much about her.

lucia scene; another act of kindness that is motivated by different factors. felice letting sara be the lucia is the perfect example of the juxtaposition of these two characters; what felice rejects, sara desperately wants. i thought it was so special that she let her have this.

this also mirrors august and wilhelm’s relationship. there are so many ways august/wilhelm and sara/felice parallel each other (maybe i’ll do a post about that?).

lastly, miss detective felice- an icon, a legend. this should definitely go on her resume. i love that one of her motivations in finding who took the video was so sara could stay at hillerska. of course she wants to help wilhelm, but i thought the detail about sara was so interesting. this girl has a heart of gold and determination.

all in all, felice rocks and i’m very excited to see how she develops as a character and what her friendship with sara will look like in season 2.

so we do a lot of talking on how simon and wille’s relationship is going to play out, but what about felice and sara?

i don’t think felice would’ve cared too much about sara hooking up with august, but knowing that he was the one who released the video and blackmailed her brother into selling drugs? i’m honestly not sure felice and sara’s friendship can survive that. obviously i hope they can work it out. sara needs friends who care about her, but i don’t see this going very well for her

that’s what i still don’t understand, though. i don’t think sara is genuinely interested in august and she’s already dead set against selling her medication. i think august knows that too. but that’s literally the only reason that makes sense? besides doing it exclusively to mess with simon but you’d think releasing the video would be enough. august probably thinks wille already told him. so i just don’t get it and i mean it’s august, nothing he does makes sense

the first time august kisses sara, he’s still with felice, who he’s been chasing after for a while now. there’s no way he didn’t realize sara would tell felice-felice is the closest thing sara has to a best friend.

and then the next time, sara has a clear motive-she’s using him to become an actual resident and up her social status, though i’m not sure she thought through the consequences of when felice and simon inevitably find out. but august? why? does he have real feelings for her? is he rebounding? is he just trying harder to piss off simon??

idk but i really hope s2 gives some answers bc i’m still confused by their relationship

just finished yet another yr rewatch and i have some thoughts™ 

obviously we see simon and wille dealing with the aftermath of the video getting leaked but i feel like their individual reactions are something we don’t talk about enough. i’ve seen several posts talking about how simon gets thicker curtains for his room after the video is leaked. it makes sense. he’s been thrust into the public eye in the worst way imaginable and is getting harassed by reporters on top of dealing with the fact that the entire nation has seen his sex tape. every time we simon in his room after the video is leaked the blinds are drawn, his curtains are thicker, and it’s dark. he’s in hiding.

and then we see wille. in the aftermath of the video he also retreats to his room as somewhere safe to hide away from prying eyes and his classmates whispers but with one big difference. he doesn’t close the curtains. every time we see wille in his room post leak the curtains are open. for him there’s no point in closing them now. he has nothing left to lose. growing up as a prince he’s used to constantly being watched and analyzed. he’s used to not having privacy and having his entire life on display for others, something that only got worse after erik died. and now after the tape was leaked? a private moment of his life has once again been exposed for everyone to see but this time he’s not the only one impacted. simon’s face is clearly visible in the video where as wille’s is obscured for once. the attention on the video is because of wille’s potential involvement but through the lens of the video he’s not the focal point. simon is. once the video is out wille has no reason to close the blinds. the nation (potentially world) has already seen his most intimate moment broadcast as entertainment for others. he has nothing to lose by leaving the curtains open. 

even if the video hadn’t happened wille lives his life in the public eye so nothing is really his and the media would have found out about him and simon eventually but i think the video being released is his breaking point. he doesn’t care about his privacy anymore. he doesn’t care if people walk by his room and see him crying, grieving over the fear of losing the only person he cares about anymore. everyone at hillerska knows it’s him in the video so he isn’t scared about people seeing him and simon in his room before he leaves for the interview. at this point nothing he does in his room is going to be worse than what they’ve already seen.

simon gets thicker curtains and keeps them drawn to protect himself and what the privacy he has left. wille leaves the curtains open because he has nothing else to lose

The reason why the "Wille fake-dating someone" plot point is pretty much out of the window for me is because of Wilhelm's denial statement, especially this line:

In any emotional relationships.

Faking a hetero relationship will only rise a contradiction to the Royal Court's official statement. Why is the Prince dating someone if he chose not to indulge in any emotional relationship? It can lead to the press examining the legitimacy of the statement and it can circle back to the video and a possible speculation of the Monarchy trying to straight-wash the Prince. Cue a PR nightmare. Who would want that? I think after this statement, it would be wiser to like, let the gossip die down on its own.

Also, I don't think Wilhelm will agree to any gimmicks after what the Queen did to him. He fell for her whims once, but after seeing how it all backfired on him, he will never agree for a fake-dating move(unless it benefits him in some way). Hurting Simon more will be the last thing he will want to do.

So I don't think a fake dating plot will be involved. Until and unless it's a part of the revenge plot in some way.
