Released shortly after Jackson's breakthrough debut, Look Sharp!, I'm the Man saw Jackson continue the style of his earlier album. Singles from the album included "I'm the Man" and "It's Different for Girls", the latter of which was his biggest UK chart single, peaking at number five on the UK Singles Chart. On the album cover, Jackson appears in the guise of a particular type of petty criminal known in the United Kingdom as a spiv, a character who, in Jackson's own words, "always wears a gross polka-dot tie and a pencil-thin mustache, and he's always trying to sell you a watch or something like that real cheap. I think people always want to put a label on what you do, so I thought I'd be one step ahead of them and invent one myself - spiv rock." The album was quickly recorded to follow-up Jackson's successful debut album Look Sharp!. Shortly after Look Sharp's release, Jackson speculated, "Compared to the first album, I think it's a bit more mature. It's getting more interesting as it goes along. No Parlez is the debut solo studio album by English singer Paul Young. Released in 1983, it reached number one on the UK Albums Chart (for a non-consecutive total of 5 weeks) and remained in the UK Top 100 for 119 weeks. The album has been certified quadruple platinum by the BPI for UK sales in excess of 1.2 million copies. The album featured eight cover versions alongside two tracks written by Young and keyboard player Ian Kewley and one written by the guitarist in Young's band at the time, Steve Bolton. Three of the cover versions were written by Jack Lee. Initially, the first two singles, "Iron Out the Rough Spots" and a remake of "Love of the Common People", had no success, but the third, a cover of the Marvin Gaye classic "Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)", was No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in July and August 1983, and the first of Young's 14 British Top 40 singles. Similar success followed in continental Europe. In the UK, the follow-up single "Come Back and Stay" reached No. 4, and the re-release of "Love of the Common People" made it to No. 2 in late 1983. #nowspinning #vinyladdiction #vinylcollection #thorens #thorensturntable #thorenstd160 #thorenstd160mk2 #nowspinning #nowspinningvinyl #nowspinningonvinyl #vinyl33rpm #noparlez #paulyoung #paulyoungandtheroyalfamily (bij Groene Engel) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqLqLG6M4b4TsEgd4hIX9zjPxdL6E8ErkA3mb00/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Stop Making Sense is a live album by American rock band Talking Heads, the soundtrack to the film of the same name. It was released in September 1984 and features nine tracks from the film, albeit with treatment and editing. The album spent over two years on the Billboard 200 chart. It was their first album to be distributed by EMI outside North America. Limited pressings of the original LP version featured a full-colour picture book wrapped around the album jacket; standard versions had many of the pictures (printed in black and white) and captions on the album's inner sleeve. Stop Making Sense is considered by many critics to be one of the greatest concert films of all time. #nowspinning #vinyladdiction #vinylcollection #thorens #thorensturntable #thorenstd160 #thorenstd160mk2 #nowspinning #nowspinningvinyl #nowspinningonvinyl #vinyl33rpm #talkingheads #stopmakingsense https://www.instagram.com/p/CqI_N5HsIiU8XRzFDC3TQPvp7q9dmU9rHWFP1s0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#rodstewart #blondeshavemorefun #nowspinning #vinyladdiction #vinylcollection #thorens #thorensturntable #thorenstd160 #thorenstd160mk2 #nowspinning #nowspinningvinyl #nowspinningonvinyl #vinyl33rpm Blondes Have More Fun is Rod Stewart's ninth album, released in November 1978. As was the popular musical trend at the time, it is Stewart's foray into disco music. The album was commercially successful, reaching number 3 in the UK and number 1 in the US, but was critically divisive. The lead single "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" became one of Stewart's biggest hits, peaking at No.1 in both the UK and US. After carving a highly successful career throughout the 1970s as a rock singer, Stewart elected to follow the disco trend that was at its peak in 1978 for some tracks of this album. The first single was "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" which became a number one hit in the UK, US, Australia and a number of other countries. Many critics panned the direction of song towards disco, but it nevertheless became one of his biggest hits. Stewart has since defended the song commenting that Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones had also dabbled with disco music by this time. #U2 #songsofsurrender Songs of Surrender is an album of re-recorded songs by Irish rock band U2. Produced by guitarist the Edge, it was released on 17 March 2023 on Island Records and Interscope Records. Largely the effort of the Edge and lead vocalist Bono, the album comprises re-recorded and reinterpreted versions of 40 songs from the group's back catalogue, many in stripped-down and acoustic arrangements. The album is a companion to Bono's memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story (2022), which was structured into 40 chapters titled after U2 songs. Rearranged versions of the songs were first included in the audiobook edition of the memoir, and were performed by Bono during the book's promotional tour. The Edge and Bono worked on the album informally at the Edge's home and in France, as well as at recording studios in London and Los Angeles. During the sessions, the band members collaborated with numerous producers and musicians, including Bob Ezrin, Duncan Stewart, Declan Gaffney, and Stjepan Hauser. The idea to re-record U2 songs had been circulating within the band for a while, as the Edge wanted "to see if [their] songs could be reimagined in a more intimate style, as if Bono was singing in your ear". Ultimately, the confluence of two events convinced the Edge to pursue a re-recording project. Reception: John Walshe of Hot Press said the re-recordings mostly "work beautifully and occasionally surprisingly" and that: "Stripping these songs back to their core gives both band and listener a chance to re-connect with them, to hear them with fresh ears. For the most part, that also serves to remind us just how bloody magnificent they were in the first place. #nowspinning #vinyladdiction #vinylcollection #thorens #thorensturntable #thorenstd160 #thorenstd160mk2 #nowspinning #nowspinningvinyl #nowspinningonvinyl #vinyl33rpm #vinylgram #vinyllovers #vinylrecord #eighties #newwave80s #revinrecords Many limited-edition coloured variants of the double-vinyl LP were produced. Jackson's first fully digital project, it peaked at No. 14 in the UK, while in the US it reached No. 20. Expanding the sophisti-pop style pioneered on his preceding album, Night and Day (1982), the music of Body and Soul is a mix of pop, jazz and Latin music, and the album artwork emulates the smoky jazz style of Sonny Rollins, Vol. 2 (1957). The album features the hit singles "You Can't Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want)", "Happy Ending" and "Be My Number Two". The album was well-received by critics, with reviewers commending Jackson's introspective lyrics and dynamic arrangements, though others felt that Jackson and producer David Kershenbaum were not successful in their sonic goal of true-to-life minimalism. Jackson toured through August 1984 to promote the album. Producer David Kershenbaum met with Jackson about the project, first discussing it in mid-1983. Kershenbaum had "discovered" Jackson in 1978, and helped him produce 1979's Look Sharp! and I'm the Man albums. At the time of their meeting, Jackson was working to finish the soundtrack of Mike's Murder, and he told Kershenbaum he was weary of the artificiality of much modern music, recorded piecewise in dead acoustic isolation. He wished for a return to classic musicianship, with a well-rehearsed band playing together in the same space. Agreeing with him, Kershenbaum expressed a desire to move Jackson into the modern digital age, embracing the recent debut of the compact disc. In a nod to its jazz standards influence, the front and rear cover art imitated that of the 1957 saxophone album Sonny Rollins, Vol. 2, and the album's title was lifted from Coleman Hawkins' 1939 saxophone recording of "Body and Soul". Photographer Charles Reilly snapped the monochrome cover portrait of Jackson, (bij Oss) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqGYJQkMOMvkFkW4H0b_1AWN7JuUGM_4h5DRdE0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It was released on 19 November 2021, through Polydor Records. Flying Dream 1 was written remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, with each band member composing music at their homes in Manchester and London and exchanging their ideas online with the other members. The songs were then completed and recorded at the Theatre Royal in Brighton while it was still closed and empty, as a result of the pandemic. Singer Guy Garvey stated that the writing of Flying Dreams 1 had been influenced by "patient, quiet, whole albums" by artists such as Chet Baker, Van Morrison, John Martyn, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Talk Talk and the Blue Nile. Flying Dream 1 received positive reviews from critics, with many noting that the album's focus on quieter songs, compared with previous albums. Steven Edelstone of Paste said, "It sounds like the band held a competition during quarantine last year to write the prettiest songs they possibly could, ranked the 10 most beautiful ones they came up with and packaged them into a single record ... And the results are stunning." (bij Oss) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqBfCsIMAjwMp2kY__4sYIKaOnLKycUiuxJOmg0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

After the success of the band's self-titled debut, band member Jerry Dammers assumed the role as the band's leader and stirred them into expanding their 2 Tone sound into other genres of music, most prominently a lounge music and easy listening style inspired by Muzak. Several band members disagreed with #Dammers' vision and brought their own influences to the album, including from northern soul and rockabilly, contributing to an eclectic sound palette. The relations between band members continued to sour into the album's accompanying tour and most of the band departed in 1981. The album features collaborations with the Go-Go's members Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, and Jane Wiedlin; Rhoda Dakar from the Bodysnatchers; and Lee Thompson from Madness. The lyrics on the album, as with the band's debut album, are often intensely political. Upon its release, the album alienated some fans, but reached number 5 in the UK Albums Chart, Formed in Coventry in 1977, the Specials were the originators of 2 Tone music, a style that mixed the Jamaican genres of ska and reggae with the attitude and energy of punk rock and a focus on politically and socially conscious lyrics. They began 2 Tone Records, partly named for the band's multiracial line-up, on which they released their debut single "Gangsters" in 1979, which reached the UK Singles Chart top 10. The subsequent debut album The Specials (1979) was a critical and commercial success, while the Too Much Too Young EP released in early 1980 reached number one in the UK Singles Chart. For the band's second album, Dammers wanted to move the band's sound forward, away from ska and towards new territory. He declared: "It's time for 2-Tone bands to begin getting experimental. The album launched Moyet's solo career following the disbanding of synth-pop duo Yazoo. The album reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and features the singles "Love Resurrection", "All Cried Out", "Invisible" and "For You Only". In 1983, shortly before the release of their second studio album, You and Me Both (1983), Yazoo announced that they were splitting up. Deciding to pursue a solo career, Moyet soon received various offers from different record companies. Moyet ended up signing to CBS for £1 million later that year. However, after signing the contract, Yazoo's American record company Warner Bros then put an injunction on her. The legal issues took a year to be resolved by settlement in 1984. The success of Alf would soon make Moyet resentful as she felt the album's mass market appeal had defined her before she had the chance and experience to properly decide the direction she wanted to take her solo career in. Furthermore, she felt the album and her weight-gain at that time "presented an image of unthreatening cosy womanliness" (bij Groene Engel) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp-dJZ1se7wEnFI0XMbFX3QJmHQBJyr_NXRCSk0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The album features one of Jackson's most well-known songs, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?", as well as the title track "Look Sharp", "Sunday Papers", "One More Time" and "Fools in Love". Look Sharp! was heavily influenced by reggae music, which, in a June 1979 interview, Jackson said he was "totally immersed in". Jackson also sought to capture a spontaneous feel on the album; he reflected at the time, "A lot of the tracks are first takes and there are no overdubs, though we think now it is a bit thin. We wanted a bit more live band sort of sound. In retrospect you always feel there's something you can improve on. Next time 'round we'll feature the guitar a bit more. Is She Really Going Out with Him?" was released as a single in the UK prior to the release of Look Sharp!, but it, as well as follow-ups "Sunday Papers" and "One More Time," failed to make an impact on the charts. Look Sharp! also stalled upon its initial release, but upon the re-release of "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" in Britain the album grew in popularity, reaching the top #20 in America. The photo used on the album's cover was shot by Brian Griffin on London's South Bank, near London Waterloo station. Upon arriving at the South Bank, Griffin noticed a shaft of light landing on the ground and asked Jackson to stand there: the whole process took no more than five minutes. According to Griffin, Jackson hated the record sleeve as it did not include his face, and vowed never to work with Griffin again. an early reviewer in New Musical Express said they "suggest an obsession with style" and sniffed that Jackson sported "a pair of white side-lace Denson winklepickers that are, unfortunately, not nearly as cool as he evidently thinks they are". #heaven17 #howmenare Towards the end of 1983, the band (under their B.E.F. guise and assisted by Greg Walsh) helped relaunch Tina Turner's career, producing, and providing backing vocals on her hit "Let's Stay Together", a cover of the Al Green song. 1984 saw the release of Heaven 17's third studio album, How Men Are, which reached number 12 in the UK Albums Chart and was certified silver by the BPI. The album featured the Earth, Wind & Fire brass section, and two singles from the album ("Sunset Now" and "This Is Mine") both reached the UK Top 40, but would be the band's last singles to do so until various remixes were released in the 1990s. The band also worked on the Band Aid single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" at the end of 1984, with Gregory supplying vocals alongside Midge Ure and Sting, after a personal request from Ure that he attend. However, the band did not perform at Live Aid the following year. Heaven 17's first "live" performance was in 1982 on the UK television programme The Tube (though the band made use of backing tapes during this performance). #vinyllove #nowspinning #vinyladdiction #vinylcollection #thorens #thorensturntable #thorenstd160 #thorenstd160mk2 #nowspinning #nowspinningvinyl #nowspinningonvinyl #vinyl33rpm #vinylgram #vinyllovers #vinylrecord (bij Oss) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp0ZE_SsCjkyk_sHdoGnqubNHHQdooC2S9sPHA0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
