im not saying it in a jokey and lighthearted way when i say that women need to stop shaving their legs. the idea that women have to be smooth and hairless in order to simply exist in every day life is a deepseated disease in society and change has to start with you. lol. put the fucking razor down girl

I dream of one day being able to craft characters as vividly and efficiently as Billy Joel in “Piano Man.”
Paul “the real-estate novelist”. Three words! That’s all we need to build a complete picture of this man’s personality and history. And then it just rounds out the picture with “never had time for a wife”.
And we don’t even pause a beat before jumping to the equally vivid tragedy of “Davy who’s still in the navy and probably will be for life.”
And these two are talking together! Because of course they are, these kindred souls stuck in their lives of mediocrity.
The whole song’s nothing but lightning-fast character sketches. The old man whose song is “sad and sweet and knew it complete when I wore a younger man’s clothes.”
John at the bar, so firmly established as cheerful and friendly and exuberant before the 180 turn to “Bill, I believe this is killing me.”
The waitress practicing politics.
Even the businessmen “sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it’s better than drinking alone.”
All these tiny little tragicomic figures gathered around a bar’s piano. Sketched in five minutes and thirty-nine seconds–and that’s counting the choruses and harmonica breaks.
I dunno, I just think about it every time I hear the song and think he deserves more credit for it.

Too much focus on the person stuck in a time loop who knows they're stuck. What about the people who don't know that they're stuck? The woman living over and over the day her son dies. The man who jumps off the brooklyn bridge every afternoon, never knowing that it won't matter. His life won't end. The protagonist eats something different every morning at their favorite restaurant. They quit their terrible job in increasingly comedic, outrageous fashions. They find themselves. They become a better person. They are free in the sense that they know they are stuck in the day they are in, which coincidentally has perfect weather. Meanwhile, their neighbor is having the worst day of their life, and will continue to have the worst day of their life, desperately thinking--hoping-- "Tomorrow will be better," never knowing that it won't.

You, a heroic paladin have successfully slain a fearsome dragon. But the dragon warns you that death is but a door, and dragons don’t die, they reincarnate. You paid it no mind….until your son was born with golden, slitted eyes.

The one bizarre thing to me about textiles is that warp-weighted weaving is at least 6500 years old, but our oldest knitted artifacts are only ~1000 years old, and crochet 200 years old. Even though you need less equipment to knit (two sticks) or crochet (one hook) compared to warp-weighted weaving (frame, loom weights, batting, heddles). Why the big gaps between these inventions? And why did each one appear and spread when it did?

So I’m on a trip with my robotics team and there’s only two “girls” (me, an enby, and a cis girl), so we get our own beds in our own room, but the guys are rooming four to a room, but there’s only two beds in each room. Which means that two guys are sleeping on the floor every night.
I’m not joking. They were literally arguing over who’s sleeping on the floor tonight (apparently they plan on rotating).
And I asked them “why don’t you just share a bed?” And they all gave me the same answer:
“No, that’s weird! That’d be gay!”
And I just looked at them and I decided to break the bad news to them
“If lying next to another guy makes you wanna suck dick, you already wanted to suck dick.”
I’ve never seen so many Straight Guys™️ enraged by a single sentence before
