If you could be part of an experiment in a hospital setting where they stop your heart for at least one minute then do cpr and defibs on you to get your heart to beat again on it's own, would you do it?
The short answer is yes. But, I would require a couple things. First of all, a video must be made of the whole thing. I would like to be conscious up to the point where my heart stops so I could experience it. If cpr and defibs don't work I would want them to open my chest and pump my heart by hand as a last effort to restart my heart. Since my heart has stopped before during a knee surgery, I would expect they could once again get my heart pumping. So when can we start?
If you ever found yourself in a foreign country and was sentenced to death, what method would you choose for your execution?
If all diplomatic avenues failed and there was no way out. I would choose firing squad. I think that would be the fastest way to stop my heart beating. With the following requests:
Standing and shirtless with a mark on my chest over the center of my heart.
No blindfold
At least three marksmen with large caliber rifles, all with bullets
If a coup de grace where required after the initial volley, I want the final bullets delivered to my heart and not my head.
Wow, that is a great question, kind of a weird question, but a great question, thanks for asking.
Yes, twice. One was really cool and a bit of a "turn on" and the other was kind of serious.
When I was 20 I had an SVT episode happen out of the blue. My heart was beating at around 200bpm. It just wouldn't slow down. In the ER they gave me a shot of Adenosine. I felt my heart go from 200 to zero! Then it started beating normally. They didn't give me a warning about what was about to happen, so it was a complete surprise. I actually felt my heart stop beating and just lay there in my chest. I asked the nurse if the drug just stopped my heart and she said yes, that is what it suppose to do. I asked her how long and she went over to the ekg and said about 5 seconds. The weird thing was I did not lose consciousness, but felt incredibly calm in those 5 seconds. (Honestly, if I didn't think it would damage my heart, I would do it again to feel that feeling)
The second time was during a knee surgery. I have no memory of it at all. I was told there was an issue with the anesthesia and that my heart stopped. They told me they did cpr for a couple of minutes and shocked me three times, and that my heart started beating normally after that. The only thing I remember about the whole thing was waking up without my surgical gown on and only a blanket covering the lower part of my body and a nurse listening to my heart with a stethoscope. I had to spend the night in the hospital. I woke up with a sore chest the next morning. They told me what happen in detail the later that morning. I wish there had been a video of it, so at least I could see myself getting cpr and a defib! My knee is fine by the way.
