@the-best-invader is 2 years old now! For that, I think I'll do one of my incredibly rare OOC posts.

The Past

When this blog started it was just a fun way for me to socialize with other Invader Zim fans. At the time @z-ib was making waves with beautiful, intriguing, and shockingly frequent art posts in what I had seen as an interesting fusion between an ask blog and a roleplay blog.

Soon, a few others started showing up as well, and I wanted to throw a Zim into the mix because I hadn't seen any of that yet.

The version of the character was based off of an idea I had for a comic series that never came to be. It was supposed to be a self-aware crackfic version of Zim based off of an already silly highschool AU comic. It was meant to be played for jokes, and for me to get an idea of the character before I started to make "serious" material. Just for fun to play with other people.

Soon, an entire community had formed with people quickly sending asks to other blogs to make themselves known. A canon had formed, so I decided to make a Discord Server where people in this community could more easily collaborate on storylines, roleplay behind the scenes, and just get to know each other better.

My character quickly became more serious, had his personality become more developed, and I created strong ideas for worldbuilding that I hadn't had when I first started the blog, all because of the wonderful community supporting each other's work.

The Present

The Best Invader has been on a bit of a hiatus for a while, and it's not really a secret. As my plotlines became more serious, my comics because more ambitious and polished, so instead I would make one large post every once in a while instead of frequent sketch posts.

In January, I injured my hand and it has still not recovered, meaning that while many of my comics are halfway done, I haven't been able to finish any of them. I still interact and check in with the community from time to time, but things are much slower compared to normal.

The Future

None of this means I have a lack of motivation to continue, though. I have many plans for @the-best-invader in the future, collaborations with other artists that have already been underway for a long time, and storylines I've been plotting out and refining for over a year now.

It might not be soon, the blog will likely be in hiatus for a few more months, but it will come back in the future and it will be glorious. Keep biding your time, and just be patient 💖

Thank you to all the fans as well. Without the community support both from the people running the askblogs and from the people watching, this character wouldn't exist and I would have less friends than I do now. Hope to see you all again soon!

Professor Membrane: Good or Bad Father?

I've decided to scientifically argue weather or not Professor Membrane from Invader Zim father of Dib Membrane and gasoline the other one by going through EVERY EPISODE of Invader Zim (that he appears in) and making a point counter of every good and bad action he does.

Episode 1 The Nightmare Begins Ignores Dib -1 point

Episode 2B NanoZim Just gives him the tiny ship when he needs help even though what he says is insane. Proffy doesn't even call him insane just tells him to run along + 1 point

Episode 3A Parent Teacher Night He tried to show up for the meeting,,, even if it resulted in the lab exploding. + 1 dad point - 1 scientist point

Episode 6B Battle Dib Didn't recognize his son - 1 point Too hard to contact - 1 point Gave Dib the permission slip + 1 point

Episode 8B Bad Bad Rubber Piggy MADE HIS SON INTO A COOL ASS BATTLE ROBOT TO PREVENT HIM FROM DYING + 1 point

38: Professor Membrane: a good daddy or a neglectful cold father?

I rewatched every episode of the show that Professor membrane appeared in or was mentioned in to tally up all of his good and bad moments to see which one there was more of.

Ultimately, with my charitable interpretation, bad points still ended up 3 points ahead. Scientifically proven, professor membrane is unfortunately a Bad Dad.

40: Zim’s taken over the planet… Now what?

Show Wise: This only lasts an episode until it goes back to the status quo. We get some fun antics out of it. He pry gets rather Megamind about it.

Logic Wise: Zim calls the tallest to try to get them to bring the armada to steamroll this planet over, but it's too far away so they don't with an excuse such as "You weren't supposed to take it over, just watch it". Zim grows frustrated.

Unfortunately, there are very few ways of looking at it that result in this lasting very long. It could make an interesting fanfiction though, if he could stay in charge.

22: Any parts of the fandom that actually scare you?

I don't think it's scare is the right word here, I don't feel fear at any of you people. Even people who send really horrible things through the inbox don't actually scare me, they just annoy me. No one's ever made any credible threats toward me!

That being said, once in 2021 when I was making my playlist of every single Invader Zim related interview I could find, I did accidentally stumble across this one video of a genuine paparazzi filming Jhonen Vasquez in public without his knowledge??

5: Favorite Other Race?

I believe the Vortians are the most developed! The two that we know of are both very interesting and tell us a lot about a lot of the lore that the fandom bases itself off of.

15: Favorite enemies? (Tak and Zim or Zim and Dib… etc)

Est and the Tallests I'd love to give an answer for the show rather than @the-best-invader nonsense but genuinely I don't feel TOO strongly about any nemesies in that show lol it's not that I don't think they could be fun, just that there's none that come to mind XD

18: Least favorite thing about Invader Zim?

I wouldn't exactly call the show inclusive. The show was developed in a time that it was more normal to make fun of certain kinds of people, but it is rather uncomfortable in current day.

29: Are the Tallest intelligent or not?

It really depends on your definition of intelligence? That's rather subjective. I think mainly their priorities are completely off. It's not that they're terrible leaders because they lack the skills to, they're terrible leaders because they don't want to lead. That's not what they're here for.
