me when i put over 50 hours into a baldurs gate 3 save, desperately wooing astarion and checking guides, only to find out in act 3 i missed a huge cutscene by ignoring a trader and not having high enough approval to get the backup cutscene 💀

(i got the “we haven’t spent a night together in a while 🥹🥹” dialogue option, saved and checked it out before dying, reloading my save, and then googling to find out how i’m now stuck)

me when i’d need to go back at least 15 hours to fix this, except my oldest save is from 4 hours ago

deadass just mourned for an hour and decided fuck this and made a new save so i can recover from this devastating news before returning to my big save

smth i’ve noticed, and it’s the same with top surgery on reddit, is that a lot folks forget that people who come out of surgery with a bog standard chest / or new genitals aren’t gonna be posting on reddit going “shit fuck shit what do i do”

(i’m doing a trans man centred perspective bc that’s what i know most about)

i researched top surgery for years and years before i got it. in the months before my consultation i used reddit to look at results of top surgery.

i saw some guy with full scale necrotic holes across his chest, another who’s incisions peeled open, another who’s surgeon hadn’t removed any skin, leaving huge empty ballsack-esque skin bags.

and then i spoke to my surgeon. he’d never seen a patient develop necrosis after top surgery, or even heard of it happening. the rate of complications in his practise was just under 3%, with the vast majority of those complications being “oh shit, that’s a lot of swelling, you’re gonna have to use drains”, and the rate of revision also being just under 3%, with the vast majority of those revisions being “i was pre warned i may end up with dog ears, i now have dog ears, let’s revise this area under anaesthetia” - hell, i’m one of those guys with dog ears! i’m having a revision on my chest in august, but i’m happier now with dog ears than i was with big melon tatas.

plus, about 6 months after each of the “horror story” posts i saw, i saw the update posts - “hey, i’m all healed up and have extra scars but i’m fine!”, and “hey, i went to a more qualified surgeon for a second operation and now my chest looks great, here’s a pic!”

….most people don’t stick around long enough to see the update posts.

i also think people forget that for some people, the “horrific terrible results! aaaa!” is preferred over boobs, or binding forever.

pre op, after seeing the “oh no” posts, i accepted that ultimately i’d rather have a “bad” top surgery than “good” boobs, because the “good” boobs had caused me so much distress, and were actively giving me body horror every day.

if you don’t think the risks are worth the reward, or are repulsed by the results, that’s fine, but it’s one of those “not your mind, not your body” things. plus, some folks forget that these are real people’s bodies, not just some AI generated horror story. some people are happy with the “bad” results, some people are miserable with it and get a revision and THEN are happy. it’s different person-to-person!

i think the same shit happens with bottom surgery, but on a larger and more intense scale.

i saw a pic of one guy who’s dick split open like a demogorgon, and i will never forget that image. quite literally it haunts me, and nothing could’ve prepared me to see it. less than a year later i saw an update post from him, with a fully healed and functional cock, with some sick ass scars. he retained full sensation.

i saw one guy who pissed a litre of blood after surgery, had to be rushed in for an emergency re-operation. he was fine afterwards. everything healed up fine, and he’s super happy with results.

i saw one guy who’s surgeon literally gave him a foot long, and mocked him when he asked to have another operation to make it a more reasonable size. he ended up finding a different surgeon who gave him a less gigantic cock, and was very pleased.

if you stick around in those spaces long enough, you see the end of the “oh no!” posts.

i can’t tell you the number of horrifying tattoo and piercing stories and pictures i’ve seen, with people going to the hospital, getting awful infections, being pierced in the wrong place and have their jewellery tear out of their flesh! and i can’t tell you the number of wonderful tattoo and piercing stories i’ve seen.

i knew a guy that died getting his wisdom teeth removed. i’m still gonna get my wisdom teeth removed, because they’re causing me agonising pain. the chances of me dying while getting them out are pretty slim, the chances of *anyone* dying are pretty slim - really bad endings can happen with any procedure.

if you see past the stage one “it’s a meat tube!!”, you’ll see post-op stage 2 & 3 / medically tattooed dicks that look like boring ass dicks. if you see past your own expectations of what a dick should look like, and your own desires, you’ll see happy people, often with happy partners. if you see past the “i’m 1 day post op and have a tube in my urethra” posts, you’ll see the “i JUST PENETRATED MY PARTNER!! WE JUST HAD AMAZING SEX!!! WE’RE BOTH SO HAPPY” posts, you’ll see the “i went swimming without a packer for the first time :D” posts.

I feel like there's this weird dichotomy in the way trans people are viewed even by other trans people where top surgery (at least growth from e but sometimes even that isn't "Enough") is necessary to Count as Trans but don't you dare get bottom surgery you'll be a Freak . This isn't even like specifically ftm or mtf or anything like If ur transfemme you need to have tits and if ur transmasc you have to get your tits taken off or you're "not trying hard enough to be perceived as that gender" but if you get bottom surgery you get no representation even within the trans community and you'll be told horrible things abt ur neogenitals constantly even by other trans people. Even other trans people who mean well will say shit like "oh I'd only get bottom surgery if they came up w a technique that looks more realistic" Ike what rhe fuck no I promise u the results are very much Real Genitals anyway it fucking sucks i love u girls without tits I love u boys with tits I love u neopussy I love u phalloplasty and metoidioplasty dicks.

#tldr is different people have different wants and needs for their bodies #even if you find it unattractive or repulsive it doesn’t mean that person is unhappy #and even if THEY find it unattractive or repulsive it doesn’t mean they’re stuck like that forever #and even if smth goes terribly wrong it tends to still have a happy ending if u stick it out #sorry this post is huge #i have so many thoughts

transreads.org has a downloadable copy of lou sullivan’s autobiography- if you don’t know much about trans history, he was the first openly gay trans man in america to transition and helped define the difference between gender and sexuality as we know it today. sadly, he passed away in the 90s from aids, but we still have his collected journal entries. highly recommend this

Liz Truss’s bid to ban trans women from sports runs out of time after MPs discuss ferrets instead

Former UK prime minister Liz Truss’s recent attempt to ban transgender women from female spaces ran out of time and will now not be debated after MPs joined forces to “talk it out” for five hours, including discussing ferret name choices.

Truss, the UK’s shortest-serving prime minister, sponsored the bill – entitled the Health and Equality Acts (Amendment) Bill – saying it would define sex in law as biological and, in her view, end the “absurd and dangerous situation where biological males self-defining as females can access girls’ and women’s toilets and so on – as well as sports competitions”. 

In recent months, Liz Truss has become increasingly vocal over trans issues and has aligned herself with hard-right groups and figures, even appearing at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the US state of Maryland last month, where she claimed that “trans activists” had infiltrated the UK’s civil service.

One of Liz Truss’s allies, Secretary of State for Trade Kemi Badenoch, slammed the “filibuster”, saying that Labour MPs had used parliamentary time to discuss ferret name choices instead of “protecting children.”

Champion said: “I am interested that my right hon. Friend is keenly mentioning ferrets at every opportunity that she can get in this debate, so let me just put it on record that my brother had a ferret called Oscar.”

Eagle replied: “My hon. Friend now has that on the record. I do not really know what else to say about that, except that I am sure that Oscar brought her brother great joy.”

Conservative MP for North Devon Selaine Saxby also joined in the Animal Welfare debate after she was asked by Ms Eagle whether she had ever owned a ferret, “and if so, what was that ferret’s name?”

Saxby replied: “That is an excellent intervention. I will come to ferrets, but unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of one at home myself.”

At one point, the Animal Welfare debate segued into a discussion of the soap opera Coronation Street, with Labour MP for Chester Samantha Dixon saying: “Is my hon. Friend aware of a recent Coronation Street storyline on precisely this issue? It involved the indomitable Evelyn, who is, of course, played by Maureen Lipman, and covered the issues around puppy farming. It was a strong, educational storyline.”

A bill aimed at ban conversion therapy failed to move through Parliament on Friday 1 March for the same reasons, after a debate on it ran out of time: with anti-conversion therapy ban MPs, including gender-critical Labour MP Rosie Duffield and several Conservative MPs, similarly accused of ‘filibustering’.

Were it not too early in the morning for it, I'd be HOWLING with laughter at this!

Here's a suggestion - instead of hounding trans people, do something about the number of children being groomed online!
