“Um, th-there’s also...”

She cautiously took the drawing back for a moment, unfolding it a bit more, revealing a full drawing of the two of them. A simple doodle, but something she was happy about nonetheless.

“I-I d-didn’t draw the cloaks, s-since I wanted you to be able to see the d-details on your gloves, b-but... I’m so glad you like it!”

“Um, I-I hope you like it, Soleil-san! H-happy birthday!”

Soleil subconsciously felt at the hem of the haori. She understood that most shrine maidens wore a longer bottom piece - either a dress-like part, or a split trouser - but Sakura had had this one made with a shorter pleated skirt instead. Soleil liked skirts. This one was a bit longer than she was used to, but still quite comfortable.

She picked up drawing Sakura had given her, and smiled brightly. 

“Thanks, Sakura-senpai.”

Sakura laughed sheepishly, feeling a bit nervous about what she was about to do. Would it go over okay? She certainly didn’t want to upset Soleil- not in the least! But...

She stopped walking, turning to Soleil and looking up at her for a moment before nervously giving her a tight, warm hug.

“Um, I-I hope that w-was okay! I-I was s-sort of hoping th-that while we’re learning f-from each other, w-we’ll become closer friends, t-too, um...”

Soleil felt a little bad when she realized she took Sakura off guard a bit, but it was a quick way to learn. There probably wasn’t anyone around for her to show affection, too, but they were on their way back to the castle soon. Surely she’d encounter one of her siblings.

“Someone you want to be close to would work, sure. Anyone you really cherish, you have to show them, no matter when it might be.”

She was a bit oblivious to Sakura’s meaning.

i’ve been sitting on them like, all day, and i have ideas, but the whole process of writing out anxiety attacks and stuff can be really taxing on me, esp. with sakura since i have to basically write out how i’d react to a situation as opposed to how a character would (we are v much the same when it comes to our reactions to things wh o o p s )

i’m gonna try and knock out a couple replies, though

Her first lesson? Already?! Oh, Gods, she hadn’t even prepared any sort of plan yet! How would she explain to Soleil immediately after which plants made good aromatherapy and which ones didn’t?! Or the proper way to hold a rod, or the proper way to focus your energy, or...?

Wait. This is probably exactly why Soleil picked now! She was always such a spur of the moment type of young lady. It would do her good to give it a try, too. Of course Sakura knew that her mind didn’t exactly work that way, but it was worth a shot if nothing else...!

“Um... I-is it okay if it’s someone I w-want to be close to?” 

“W-would that be okay, or...?”

“Sounds like a plan!” Soleil, for her part couldn’t wait to start learning to be a healer. Or to visit Shirasagi. Really all of it excited her so much she could barely contain herself. Most of all she wanted to immerse herself in Hoshido’s culture and fit in… which was admittedly tough, given her obvious Nohrian appearance. She’d already gotten more than a few nasty looks from older Hoshidans who’d lived through the war.

She blushed a bit. Sakura was eager to learn as well. Her promise to do her best…. it… was very cute. She softly shook her head, casting the thought aside.

“All right, now could be a good time for your first lesson.” She smiled. “Hugging close friends. When we find someone you’re close to - someone in your family, or a very close friend, perhaps - I want you to hug them and show them physically that you love them.”
