the way i was so anti jordayla proposal when they showed that promo with the ring and i was so convinced that he wasn’t going to be the one to propose. bc...where are they going? but then jordan got down on one knee and suddenly, it made all the sense in the world. jordan and layla have the luxury of having their life (career wise at least) planned out. she’s doing her record label and he’s trying to play in the nfl. oftentime, ppl delay marriage bc they have to figure their education and career out first to become financially stable. but jordan and layla are able to bypass that. and once he realized that layla is the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with, he knew that his future will always be with her (ergo the proposal). and it’s such a stark difference from jimone. mainly the fact that they didnt even get a proposal. it was just a random idea they had and decided to run along with it. but also, jimone’s wedding was a plot device to push spencer and liv to finally come face to face with how they felt romantically about each other (for God’s sake, jordan was playing devil’s advocate about why they shouldn’t get married). but with his proposal to Layla, it was clearly planned and thought out. he had time to get an engagement ring, get her ring size and plan a whole thing with fireworks. jordan did not go into their proposal impulsively (granted, it was accelerated because jj found the ring). but he knew, with everything in him, that he wanted to marry layla. additionally, losing billy gave jordan a new perspective on life. no longer does he move with the assumption that he will always have time to do something later at a different time. one minute billy was here and the next, he was gone. he doesn’t have that arrogant belief that there will always be a future bc quite honestly, he doesn’t know if that future will be there waiting for him. he sees himself spending the rest of his life with layla. why wait?

layla accepting his proposal honestly solidified everything for me tho. bc layla is smart. she is grounded, the most mature out of the whole friend group and she doesn’t do anything she doesn’t think she’ll succeed in. layla choosing to marry jordan tells me how strong their relationship is and how much she believes they’ll be able to be successful as a married couple. 

im excited for s6 and the potential challenges they might face (but i do expect a long engagement from them tho).

How are they having their first long scene together in 4x01 when the chemistry is THIS GOOD????? That is just inexcusable.

this is so important. not everyone has to be destined from the pilot. allow for changes and progression to happen 

If the writing has been circling around them how come they barely interact or held a conversation outside of cotillion , they wasn’t they around for each other lowest moments like Jordan in the hospital last scene or Layla mental breakdown. He was “checking her out” but it went nowhere. They were thrown together let’s stop acting like they wasn’t especially since the actors themselves have said it came outta nowhere for them as well .

Come on now. He was the first person who knew what to say to her after the Spencer and Liv situation. He was also the person who knew how to lift her spirits at the cotillion. Knew to build her a fort when she was staying at his house. He knows her. He’s always known her. He’s the person who always did but she just didn’t see it — maybe he didn’t either. I think that’s such a sweet and lovely way to tell a story. They “you were always there” narrative.

He may not have been super present for the initial depression but he was there after. He helped her heal. He walked the ups and downs and ebbs and flows that occurred while she was finding herself again.

Do we remember them being stuck in a room together? Do we remember that fight? Do we remember him being there with Carrie? With her Dad? Being a constant sounding board for her when she was putting the pieces back together?

Just because they haven’t only been focused on each other romantically since season 1 episode 1 doesn’t mean there were things there to build on and it certainly doesn’t mean they can’t be a well developed wonderful romantic pairing. The show spent all of last season making sure of that.

Not everyone has to be DESTINED from the pilot. There are different ways to tell a love story.

Just say you don’t like them and go — that’s absolutely acceptable

 exactly. this is their backstory!

Jordayla headcanon

aka a random thing i came up with since jordayla was a crackship until s4 so i can have any headcanons.

before the asher and jj became friends with jordan it was just liv, layla and him. liv and layla were inseparable so jordan got used to always having layla around and they started developing a bond. whenever liv would steal one of his action figures so she could put someone in a castle for her dolls to save them, layla would eventually sneak them back to jordan. whenever layla slept over at the baker house jordan would help them build their sleepover fort, hoping they would let him hang out there. and sometimes - if liv was feeling generous - he could stay with them and he’d be on cloud nine. layla would always make sure that he didn’t feel left out even when her and liv were hanging out. 

and then he met asher and jj, they became friends and for the first time his best friends weren’t his twin and her best friend. he had people to call his own, he didn’t have to share his friend with his twin. but still, whenever layla was at the baker house she and jordan would still talk as if they were as close as before. jordan slowly realised his problem was never that he didn’t have a friend of his own, his problem that he was jealous of liv getting to hang out with layla more. he realised that he had developed a crush on layla over the time. but it wasn’t it big deal, she was just his friend, it didn’t change anything between their frienship. jordan would still hang out with them when they had movie nights, would still throw popcorn at layla and she would still get pretend mad at him, throwing a pillow into his face and then they would burst out laughing, annoying liv. a familiar warmth would spread in him. 

then the boys started hanging out at the baker house as well, their two small circle merging into one. even though he and layla would still hang out on their own, something shifted when he saw how asher looked at her and how she looked back at him. and when they announced that they were together, jordan started to talk less and less to his old best friend. because having feelings for layla, his friend was one thing, but liking layla, his best friend girlfriend was something he couldn’t do to him. 

so the months started passing and he made sure he would only see layla whenever the group was hanging together, that they would only have shallow chats about everyday things like asher or school. slowly, over the time he made them be nothing more than distant acquaintances in hopes that his feelings for her would eventually die. 

when he met simone and fell in love with her, he was sure he was completely done with whatever he used to feel for layla. that he didn’t need to be around her anymore.

until that night with carrie. it made him realise that if he lost layla and they had no memories together it would be only his fault because of his stupid feelings he didn’t even feel for a while at that point. so he got close to layla again, they fell back into their old rythm, and he was still very much in love with simone. 

but then the warmth crept back whenever layla was around.
