Chapter 12
Respect of the Universe
The walk was hard and eventually Sebastian had to help Ominis get you to the lake. They knelt you down at the water's edge.
Sighing from the relief of getting off your legs, you looked out on the dark water as the rain slowed.
"How are you doing?"聽Ominis asked, drawing your attention.
"I'm just tired." You admitted as you leaned forward, slipping your hand into the water, magically calling out to any nearby creatures.
A calm feeling enveloped you as you allowed all of the magic you held to drain into the water as a tentacle wrapped around your hand, startling you for a second. Two eyes looked up at you from under the water as a familiar, albeit smaller, creature appeared.聽聽
"Isn't that the giant squid living in the Black lake in our time?" Sebastian asked softly.聽
You remember the tentacles reaching out of the water as you were in flying class, making you smile. It was as if the squid was waving at an old friend.聽
"Not quite so giant right now," Anne replied, with a chuckle.
The golden light filled the water around your hand, but the squid just watched you for a moment judging how you changed the magic.
You watched it worriedly until it playfully splashed water at you, before you felt your energy quickly draining as the color started to stain the water.聽
The strength you had slowly gotten used to while holding the magic was slipping away, getting your eyes to flicker close.聽
"Remember our promise," Ominis whispered thinking the worst was happening.聽
Smiling as much as you could, you rested your head against his. "I won't forget."聽
He let out a sharp exhale when you met his eyes, but he could see how tired you were getting.聽
When the squid splashed the water again, both of you looked back, seeing the burns on your arm had completely healed, while the water turned white and appeared like your body was soaking it up.聽
Godric chuckled, shaking his head slightly. "It seems the universe decided your worth the magic Salazar stole. It's giving it back."聽
You thought you'd go back to being magicless, you had mentally prepared yourself for leaving Hogwarts and living life as a muggle.
The squid let out a soft noise as it tightened its tentacle. 聽
"Thank you," you whispered, never realizing how much you wanted your magic until you no longer had it.聽
The squid slowly let go and slipped further into the water, giving you a wave like movement before completely disappearing into the dark lake.
Pulling your hand from the water, you looked at it, realizing you no longer felt exhausted.聽
"You look better." Sebastian teased as you moved to stand, only needing Ominis to steady you when you slipped on a particularly wet rock.聽
"I understand the water, but why did the squid?"聽
You looked back at Rowena. "It had to be accepted back after being judged at how damaged it was from the people who held it."聽
"That's why the wizard who took it couldn't return it?" Anne asked.聽
"Yeah, he twisted the magic with his greed and eventually his guilt, so he had to seal it away. Without emotions to feed on, it went dormant."聽
"Until Salazar kept trying to get to it," Godric added, staring out into the water.
You nodded. "The magic would have eventually been taken by Salazar, so it reached out in desperation for the magic that was equivalent to his, finding nothing until we showed up."聽
"And Salazar?" Helga asked, stepping forward. "I doubt he'll stop-"聽
"I took all of his magic," you admitted, earning surprise from the founders. "It was the only way I could ensure I didn't mess with the future by killing him."聽
"And us?" Sebastian asked softly. "We still don't have a way to get back to our time."聽
"We do actually," you replied, smiling at the water. "As a gift, a portal home will open when we return to the cave we arrived in."聽
Everyone fell quiet for a moment as the breeze moved through, giving you a chill.
"Did the universe bring us here on purpose?" Anne asked, pulling her robes closer to her.聽
"I have no idea, but things could have gone a lot worse if we hadn't come here."聽
Ominis sighed, shifting his weight to his other foot while he stood. "What happened to an uneventful sixth year?"聽
He held out his hand, which you took. "I guess we had something else planned for us."
He pulled you up to your feet.
"When will you four leave?" Godric asked, drawing everyone's attention.
"Did you get attached to us?" You teased, getting his eyes to roll.
"Not at all, I just didn't think it's a good idea to go at night."
Helga snickered and slapped him on the back. "You're a liar." She looked at the four of you. "You remind him of us back when we first met."
"I can see that," Sebastian laughed as the group moved to head up towards the school.
Ominis fell into step with you, before entwining his fingers with yours. "I'm glad you're okay."
You nudged his shoulder. "Back at you, Omni."
The four of you decided to wait a little bit to see what Salazar was going to do, but he went deep into hiding and vanished, just like the history books said.
So, now the four of you were walking towards your destination, it was a nice day. As you entered the cave, you saw the swirl of magic come to life.
"Let's hope your parents and Fig didn't hunt down every possible lead to find us," Sebastian teased.
Rolling your eyes, you moved close, motioning for your friends to go first.
Sebastian gave an exaggerated 'thank you' before you just shoved him through, his laughter echoing after him.
Anne stepped through next, giving you a smile.
Ominis stepped up and grabbed your hand, telling you that he was wanting to go through with you.
You grabbed his hand and turned toward the portal, until something grabbed you and shoved Ominis forward.
You were sent flying into the cave wall, hitting your head hard.
"You're not going anywhere," Salazar hissed as he flipped you on your back while his hands went around your neck, squeezing so tightly that you wanted to choke but couldn't.
You tried to reach for your wand, but he was pinning it with his leg. So, you reached for something to help and found a rock.
You grabbed it just as the corners of your eyes started to darken and smacked him in the side of the head.
He growled as he fell off you and you coughed so harshly it sent pain through your chest and throat.
Knowing you couldn't stay here, you rolled over and ran towards the portal. "Your own greed lead to this Salazar. Enjoy living as a muggle."
You heard him move to give chase as you jumped through, knocking into the three of them who were trying to find a way back in.
The portal closed up instantly as the four of you fell to the ground.
"What happened?"
You were a little busy gasping and coughing as Ominis pressed his hand down on your head, trying to stop the bleeding.
"Salazar-" Was all you were able to choke out.
"What are you three doing here?"
The three of them looked over as Fig made his way down the side of the crater with Richard Jordon following.
"Long story," Ominis said hurriedly. "Do you have any wiggenweld potion?"
He pulled a bottle from his pocket and handed it to him, noticing Ominis could see it.
"I have a feeling I missed a lot."
Ominis moved you to drink the potion, trying to be careful not to drown you.
"How long have we been gone?" Sebastian asked, getting a funny look to pass between Fig and Richard.
"Gone? She just walked in and stopped the magic."
You finally calmed down, breathing heavily only due to the adrenaline leaving your system.
Fig moved closer to examine your face once he saw the blood. "Are you alright?"
"I will be," you answered, glad to be home.
Fig, Richard and Weasley stared at the four of you in silence as you relaxed in the chair.
Everything from the last couple weeks has been hectic. To be sitting safely in Weasley's office was a blessing.
"I'm glad to say your escapade into the past hasn't changed history from what you remember," Fig said, looking towards Richard. "Salazar still vanished from school when he did. There's no record of your names at all. I think the founders hid it for your safety."
"Well, given what you've been through, I think you can take the rest of the day off," Weasley said, giving the four of you a smile.
You stood and headed towards the door after the twins.
"Oh, try not to go anywhere you can't return from."
You chuckled as you walked out of the office. "I'll try to stay put."
"We can go to our spot?" Ominis offered, grabbing the twin's attention. "A little bit of relaxation after whatever the heck just happened."
"Alright."
Bathing in the sun felt good, even if it had the trilling of Sebastian and Anne playing nearby.
Ominis's tail curled around you, as he began to fall asleep.
Moving to get comfortable, he cracked an eye open.
"Is something wrong?"
You looked his way. "No, I'm just tired. I feel like I haven't slept in ages, but I can't seem to fall asleep."
"What's on your mind?"
You shifted your head to look his way. "You."
Now wide awake, he stretched his paws. "In a bad way or a good way?"
"Depends on how you take it," you admitted.
"That sounds worrying."
You gave him a push with your paw. "It's not, I'm just worrying about you. I know your aunt wanted to believe Salazar wasn't all about dark magic and learning this-"
"Is no different from what I expected, you don't have to worry about that. All that matters to me is that you're safe."
You lifted your head to meet his eyes. "Are you sure?"
He bumped his nose against yours, before shifting closer until he rested his head over your shoulders.
"Yes, I'm positive."
"What about you? Going through what you did, it was a lot."
Stretching you laid your head down. "I'm just going to file it in my bury deep and ignore it file."
"That's healthy," he replied sarcastically.
"It's better than thinking about it."
He grumbled, nudging you. "You can talk to me, I hope you know that."
Leaning into him, you relaxed. "I know Omni. I'm just- I never want to have that much power ever again."
"Careful, that's not very Slytherin of you."
Chuckling you moved your head out from under his, seeing his eyes shining in the light.
"Your eyes are still beautiful."
His head pressed into yours. "Thank you for granting my wish."
"It was a cute wish. I had to."
He chuckled as his eyes closed. "I have that other wish you could help me grant." His eyes sparkled as you looked at him. "Letting me see you everyday. Can we try to make sure that happens?"
"I don't know," you teased, shifting towards him. "I guess you're going to have to ask me tomorrow."
He stared at you for a moment, before giving an awkward shake of his head. He stood up sharply, the movement so fast you ended up rolling onto your back, where he began nudging at your stomach.
Laughing, you pawed at him to get him to stop and eventually he laid down beside you, allowing you to finish chuckling before you spoke.
"Why would you think I wouldn't want to spend my days with you?"
He sighed. "Well given what my family has done-"
"You're not your family. You're Ominis and all you've done since I came here is protected me. If that's not proof enough, I don't know what is."
"Yeah, but it's still a stain on everything."
You rolled his way, as he rested his head on the ground to stop himself from saying more.
"Only because you're allowing it to be. I don't hold you accountable for your family's actions. I love you. Not because because you're a Gaunt, but because you're Ominis."
He rolled onto your paws, getting you to laugh as he rested his head on them, not that it really fit.
"I love you too, I hope you know that."
"I do," you whispered, resting your head on his neck.
Your ear swished as you caught the sound of Sebastian and Anne running over, both of you straightened up to look.
"What'd you two do now?" Ominis asked, trying to get his tone to sound disappointed, but he couldn't quite get it right.
Sebastian's eyes danced between you two. "Should we be asking you two that?"
All those times he interrupted you and Ominis, it felt like payback was in order.
You looked at Ominis, who glanced at you, just before both of you jumped to your feet and ran at him.
He turned and bolted, so both of you gave chase, with Anne closely following telling her brother he had it coming before laughing.

Chapter 11
Salazar's greed
聽 聽聽 Godric, Helga and Rowena sent the kids home early, with a letter explaining that there was a problem and they could come back for the rest of the term once it was taken care of.
As promised, you hadn't used the magic since you gave Ominis sight. Something he had a bit of difficulty adjusting to, but he found that he enjoyed watching the sun set and seeing all the colors. He also liked the rain, not so much the lightning.
It had distracted him enough that he didn't notice you were still getting nosebleeds even without using it. Though it didn't feel like it was wearing you out, you could feel as things in the world were weakening while you were getting stronger, too strong and it was taking its toll.
This magic was too much for one person, too much for anyone.
"One of the students said that Salazar will be here tonight," Godric said walking up to you as thunder rumbled in the distance. "Are you sure you're going to be able to do this?"
You nodded. "This magic is strong enough to do the job."
"Are you?"
You met his eyes, understanding passing between you.
You weren't sure if you were, but that wasn't going to stop you.
You had a plan that wouldn't involve killing Salazar, and you'd hope it would work so all involved wouldn't repeat the night Solomon died.
"Do they know?"
You subtly shook your head. "Immediately after Salazar's taken care of, I will need to get to the black lake."
"The black lake? Why?"
"To return what was taken," you answered.
He nodded as he looked out of the window. "Very well, but will you have the strength to give it after the battle?"
You smiled and shrugged. "It has to be done. Everything will continue to crumble into non-existence if I don't and it's time for things to be put right."
He seemed to stand straighter. "Whoever you're apprenticed to, should be proud. They picked well."
Fig's image appeared in your mind as you chuckled. "I'll pass the word along."
"Make sure you do that."
He started to walk towards the door as Ominis walked in. "Helga and Rowena say it's time."
"Then I best go help them envelope the school."
Ominis side stepped him as he walked over. "How are you doing?"
"I'm okay," you whispered while he leaned against the window frame so he could see your face.
"Even being able to see, I feel like I'm as blind as before. So, please tell me the truth."
You met his eyes as you gave a small laugh. "I'm nervous Ominis, not hiding something. Salazar's bringing a small army of followers with him. I don't know how we're going to pull this off."
He crossed his arms, while his eyes dropped to the floor. "I must admit, I'm also worried about that and you going against Salazar directly isn't sitting well with me."
"If it makes you feel better, I'm not fond of the idea either. If I accidentally kill him, I end up wiping out your whole family line and you die."
"If you lose, you die," he whispered, rubbing at the back of his neck.
"Which is why my plan is crucial. I need it to work out the way I want it to."
"It kind of feels like we've already messed history up though, doesn't it?"
Sighing, you nodded. "It does. Everything sorted itself out, then in a flash we just made things complicated."
He chuckled. "At least we're sticking to our reputation." He lifted off the frame and shifted closer, resting his hands on your shoulders. "Just don't die. Not now, during the fight or afterwards."
"Anyone else and I would make a sarcastic remark, but for you, I promise to try."
He stared for a second, before pulling you against him. "I'm sorry for all the pain my family has caused you."聽
Smiling, you tightened your hold on him. "For all their faults, I can't hate them." He pulled back to look into your eyes, his own glancing around your face for a clue as to what you meant. "Without them, I wouldn't have met you and going through everything I have, knowing you were right there with me, it made it all feel like it was worth it."聽
His expression wobbled until he smiled as he pressed his forehead to yours. "You know just what to say to make things sound better than they are."聽
"I have to do something to balance you out," you teased, hearing him laugh as he pulled back. "But, it doesn't make it any less true."聽
"Then you better survive this fight," he whispered though you could hear the strong emotion behind it that was practically pleading.聽
"As if there was any doubt." You gave a wink, seeing his face brighten, but his eyes do the opposite. "Salazar may be older than me, but I have more spells in my arsenal than he does, couple that with the universe's magic on my side, I'm not the one who needs to worry."聽
Before he could reply, the door opened and the twins walked in, Sebastian earning another whack for bad timing, but he just looked at the both of you with a strange kind of seriousness. "Salazar is here."聽
Ominis looked to you while you nodded and headed towards the door. "Well then, let's finish this."聽
聽 聽 The man in question was standing in the clocktower court yard with a few other students behind him, some you recognized and others you didn't.聽
"And if it isn't the child of the hour," he sneered as you walked out to stand beside the other founders. "Still fighting without magic? I must admit that you've got guts, but muggles need them to survive right?"聽
Not giving him the satisfaction of talking you up, you just gave him a blank stare. His eyes flicked towards the others beside you.聽
"This is the best you could do?" He laughed, obviously letting his numbers drive his ego. "This is almost pitiful. We'll have this school in a matter of moments."聽
You didn't know if he just enjoyed tormenting his friends or actually believed they wouldn't have a plan.
You discreetly popped a few of the potion vials your group hid around the courtyard and used the air to swirl it around the students.聽
"I think your numbers have been vastly reduced," Godric said, wiping the smug smirk off Salazar's face as he turned around seeing the students coughing with no sound.聽
"What is this?"聽
"Finely crushed Dumbcane leaves," you answered nonchalantly. "Most of them don't know how to cast without nonverbally so we took away their ability."
"Avada Kadavra!"聽
His spell shot directly at you and slammed into the same magical barrier the spell book and box had over it as everyone else moved to take on one of the students that sent a spell right after him, filling the courtyard with various lights and sounds, even a few explosions.
Shock plastered over Salazar's face as your eyes turned gold and met his. "Oops? It's a little late for that."聽
"I took your magic!"聽
"Which allowed me to take the magic hidden behind that door," you answered, baiting him. "All that time getting power to enter the door and you needed to be completely drained in order to receive it. You are your own undoing."聽
He casted at you again and this time you caught it with your own as the rain began to beat down and lightening struck the area around the battle.聽
You kept an eye out for your allies, seeing Ominis not far, easily taking on two of the older students, while Sebastian fought at his back, taking on his own. Anne and Helga were not far doing the same.
Godric was further away, knocking the younger one out before they could join, while Rowena kept spells from hitting him in the back.
As Salazar slowly grew closer while you held your own, you could feel the blood sliding out of your nose -a fact he quickly noticed.聽
"Your body is wearing out. Muggles are not capable of holding such magic." He moved his wand towards you.聽聽
You hated to admit it, but it was. You were syphoning too much, it came with it, but it still made using it difficult.聽
"Maybe, but you're not getting it either," you hissed as you fought against him.聽
"You're either delusional or na茂ve, you couldn't stop me before, what makes you think you can now?"聽
You felt the hair along your arms stand up as a metallic taste filled your mouth. "Because this magic will not allow you to."聽
Light flashed, his wand abandoned pursuit to put up protego. Taking the opportunity, you shoved your hand to his chest, drawing every last bit of magic out of him and into yourself before both of you were hit with lightning.
The force knocked everyone aside. The smell of burnt hair and skin filled your nose as you sailed through the air until your back hit the entry gate and you fell to the ground. Various grunts echoed throughout the area, quickly followed by an eerie silence that only the heavy rain filled.
You dared to move, feeling like a burnt piece of toast and stopped when the pain in your body became too much.聽
"Ominis?" Anne asked from nearby. "Are you okay?"聽
"Yeah, where's-"
"I haven't found them yet," she answered, sounding like they were moving towards the middle of the courtyard. "Salazar's alive, just unconscious."聽
You sighed in relief. You hadn't killed him, only made him a squib. A fitting end for a power, pureblood crazed wizard set on taking magic that would only kill everything.聽
"Did the plan work?" Sebastian asked moving towards them after coughing from all the dust the lightening caused, though it faded fast.聽
You felt something touch your arm as you opened your eyes, seeing Godric. "Over here!" He called over his shoulder before pushing your hair back. "Can you walk?"聽
He helped you sit up as you nodded. "I think so."聽
Climbing up to your feet, you quickly realized your body was in more pain than you thought and you had a Lichtenberg figure down your arm that was hit, which was quickly swelling.聽
Ominis took the wrist of your uninjured arm and pulled it over his shoulders to let you take your weight off your leg when you winced.聽
"To the Black lake now?" Godric asked while Rowena and Helga came over.
You nodded, ready to give the magic back.聽

Chapter 10
Pure Creation
Finding it best to go back to the hospital wing, your group did just that. Now that you had whatever it was that Salazar wanted, he was going to come after you again. This alone made Ominis on edge.
Sebastian tried to read the book over your shoulder, but it seemed to think he was trying to steal it, so it would always put up its barrier whenever he'd get close.
-I made a grave mistake that I can't fix, it is my only hope for someone strong enough to put it right. The magic you now wield is incredibly powerful. I sought to harness the magic that created life. The magic of the universe, but it can only be wielded by those who understand both sides of what the universe can bring to life. Love, Pain, Nurturing and Death. Because without the bad, we can't fully appreciate the good that comes into our lives. I have managed to harness it, but in doing so, I ended up creating events that lead to the death of too many people, just like it will happen for you. Since this magic is now yours to bear, you will bring on famine, droughts and floods. It won't be all at once, but it will get worse as time goes on and if you keep it for too long, it will kill all life. I locked it up and put stringent rituals to follow to ensure it's not easy for someone wanting to wield it for evil to get it. This magic is pure creation and can only be taken in by someone who has given their magic up to receive it and sacrificed of themselves. I saw the desperation of the one who would wield this one day. Someone with a friend who was born to be good and did evil things and another born to be evil, now good. I saw the man who wished to take it. If you act quickly, you can use this magic to defeat him. You have maybe from now until the next full moon to stop him before the famine begins, but I implore you to do what I couldn't and return this magic to where it belongs. Be warned, this magic comes at a higher price for you than it will for the world around you. Inside this book, I've incased all the spells I created, it doesn't require a wand to use, but it will help focus your magic. If you want the knowledge, press your hand to the pages and good luck my friend. I hope you succeed with your quest.-
"You look like you're going to hurl," Sebastian mentioned as he settled in the chair across from your bed.
That's an accurate statement. You did feel sick. Knowing what was going to happen.聽 聽聽
"The magic in that box was pure creation. The same magic that created life. This insane wizard harnessed it, but realized it was killing people because he had it," you admitted.
"Magic you now have. Does that mean it's going to happen again?" Anne asked, her eyes dancing between occupants of the room.
"Yeah and I don't know how to put it back or give it back to the universe or wherever he got it from."
"We'll figure it out," Sebastian replied, his eyes already drifting towards the window.
"If it does that to the world around you, what will it do to you?" Ominis asked, squeezing your hand.
You considered lying. It wasn't like they could read from the book, but if you were in their shoes, you'd want to know.聽 聽
"I don't know, it just said it'll come at a higher price for me than anyone else," you answered, getting his brows to pinch.
"How long?" He asked almost too softly to hear.
"A month maybe, before famine starts."
Sebastian nodded and stood. "Then we just find Salazar, take your magic back and return the creation one back to wherever it goes before the month is up. Easy."
Anne tossed a pillow at him for trying to joke at a time like this, but you laughed despite how heavy things were. "Yeah, easy."
"What? You're practically a general at war prep and we know Salazar will come back once he finds out you have what he wants, so we make a trap and spring it on him."
Shaking your head, you pressed your hands to the page of the book, seeing it engulf in golden light, before a headache hit like the Hogwarts express as spells and the location of where to return the magic flooded your mind.
The book was gone when the light faded, getting Anne and Sebastian to side glance. "Was that a good thing?"
You nodded. "I have all the knowledge contained in it and now Salazar can't get a hold of it."
聽 聽 聽As time when on, you began to notice you were slowly getting stronger, but you also realized that plants were beginning to dry up from lack of water, no matter how much they got and you were being to be plagued by headaches. You could even feel your friends emotions whenever they were near as if they were your own.聽
Ominis was taking notice of it and trying not to ask, even when he was burning with worry and fear.聽
"You might as well ask, I can practically feel you wanting to."聽
"That's still weird," Ominis replied as he sat down beside you. "We heard Salazar is raising an army to attack the school."聽
You nodded. "Yes, he'll be here in a few days."
"Are you sure you're okay?"聽聽
He shifted to face you a little more, the motion drawing your attention from the rain.
"I'm not sure anymore. The first couple days, it was easy to know who's emotions I was feeling, but they're muddled now. I've also noticed it's been raining more than I've ever seen it-"
He slid his hand to the side of your face and turned it to face him. "It's not your fault."
"It is actually. This magic is connecting me to everything in the universe, and connecting it to me."
It was nice of him to try lessening your role in what was happening, even when it was fruitless.聽 聽
"So, you're making it rain?"
You looked at him when he moved to press his palm to the window. His milky eyes stared forward, the droplets on the pane reflected in them.聽
"Everyone is," you whispered, getting his head to turn towards you, knocking your noses against each other. "Close your eyes."
He hesitated, but closed them.
Carefully cupping the sides of his face, you moved it so you could press a kiss to each eyelid, pushing the smallest bit of magic into each one.
"Just in case-"
He shook his head, his arms pulling you against him. "No, you're going to be fine."
You weren't entirely sure. Even if you could give the magic back, could you go back to being the same person you were before?聽 聽
You inhaled sharply, feeling him bury his fingers into your hair. "I feel like I'm losing myself, Ominis."
His hold tightened as if knowing you had all along.
"Once all of this is over," he pulled back, opening his eyes showing a pair of clear silver blue eyes, that blinked rapidly as they realized what they were seeing. "I can...I-"
"You told me you wish you could see me everyday," you reminded, seeing his expression melt into a smile. "This is my promise to complete that wish."聽
At least for as long as you can.聽
He nodded, happiness filling him before he kissed you, instantly wiping everything from your mind.
You pulled back, looking up at him as he smiled, his fingers tracing along your cheek, before he noticed the trail of blood sliding from your nose.
"What's happening?" He already pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and pressed it under your nose. "Is this from using that magic?"
Knowing you can't hide it, you nodded.
"Then why did you-"
"The only reason why I haven't lost my mind, is because of you. Neither of us minded you being blind, but I wanted to share the beauty of the world with you once all of this is over. It gives me something to look forward to. Some hope."
More importantly, it give him hope. Which he was quickly losing, though he tried hard to ignore.聽 聽
He nodded. "It would have just been easier to tell me about it, but now that you've done it. I'm going to make the most of it, to which you better be there with me."
It seemed he saw through what you were trying to do and decided to do the same thing for you.聽聽
"Part of the friend rulebook?"
He laughed as he shook his head. "No, part of a rulebook that's just for us." He brushed your hair behind your ears, a strange but strong emotion bubbling up within him. "I love you."
Your eyes locked immediately as he watched a spark appear in yours, something he hadn't seemed to feel or hear in your voice for a little bit.聽
"I love you too."
He sighed with relief before hugging you to him, as his giddiness filled you with the same, getting you to laugh.聽
The door opened as Sebastian and Anne walked into the room. "Come on you two, get better timing."
Just like always, Anne smacked Sebastian for being rude. "You're always walking in on them."
Sebastian cocked his head when he saw the bloody handkerchief in Ominis's hand. "What happened?"
"She had a nose bleed," Ominis replied, drawing their attention when his eyes looking right at both of them.
"Can you see us?" Sebastian asked, walking over and staring at his eyes from an inch away.
"Are you going to kiss him?" Anne teased, pushing her brother back. "Is this what caused her nose bleed?"
Ominis nodded. "Yeah, which is why I don't think you should use it."
"I have to," you replied, feeling him get upset. "But I promise not to use it until then."
That didn't sit right with any of them, but they couldn't exactly fight you on it.

Chapter 9
Pureblooded Muggle
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 It was very quiet next few days. Salazar hadn't threatened anything or even tried to come back, but you haven't woken up yet either, something that was beginning to make everyone worry. They knew Salazar meant to kill you after watching you suffer, but the longer you sleep, the harder it was to believe you were going to wake up.聽
Sebastian and Anne had to drag Ominis to eat, because he refused to leave the room and even then, he ate only enough that they'd be okay with him going back to the hospital wing.聽
He took the spot beside you, grabbing your hand, wondering when he was going to hear your voice again as he sat back in his chair.聽
He wondered if you would be happy to have lost your magic, you hadn't hidden how interested you were when Salazar mentioned stealing it in the library.聽
Sebastian told him you tried to hold onto it and gave a pretty good fight, but in the end, he had stolen too much magic to fight against.聽
Ominis hoped you wouldn't think he liked you any less being magicless.聽
His ears heard you inhale first, before your hand tightened around his while you opened your eyes. "Hey, how do you feel?"聽
Your attention drifted towards Ominis, who's brows were pinched in worry. "There's still a slight pain, but I'm alright. How's everyone else?"聽
He shook his head sharply. "We're all fine, but you've been unconscious for days. We're more concerned about you."聽
You blinked slowly, not realizing time had passed that fast, but you squeezed his hand. "I'm not really thrilled at the idea of being hunted by Salazar without magic, but it comes with the territory." You watched his expression fall as worry crept up on it. "I know I entertained the idea of not having ancient magic, but I've realized how important it was for me and for all the lives I've been involved in. And now we can't even get home. I'm sorry I let all of you down."聽
Startled from hearing you break down, he hugged you tightly, half slamming into you. "You didn't do anything of the sort." Hearing you cry hurt him as badly as hearing you scream in pain. "I told you before, I don't care where we are. I could live in this time for the rest of our lives."聽
You gripped onto his cloak, trying to ground yourself as the guilt of failing everyone ate away at you. It was something you never tried to do after so many people let you down growing up.聽
Ominis held onto you long after you calmed down. You were just trying to find comfort, but your thoughts refused to let you go. Replaying the moments that lead to this one.聽
The door opened, drawing your attention to Godric as he walked in.聽
"Ah, it's nice to see you're up. We were beginning to worry if you ever would," he said as Ominis pulled back and sat beside you. "Any adverse reactions to Salazar's spell?"聽
"Dull pain throughout my body, but I think I slept most of it off."聽
He nodded, guilt lacing his features. "You're welcome to stay here of course. It is my fault that you were even being watched by Salazar."聽
"I appreciate that, but I don't really belong here anymore," you said ignoring how sharply Ominis's head snapped in your direction or how Godric's features dropped before he hung his head. "This is a school for magic and I...I don't have magic anymore."聽
"You're still a witch. You will always be one," Ominis clarified strongly, drawing your gaze.聽
Knowing he was going to keep arguing with you, you let it go as Godric moved closer. "You don't have to do this. He is right."聽
You felt like they were only saying that because they felt guilty when they shouldn't. You made your choice. "I know, but with the Slytherins still being obsessed with pureblood status and me now defenseless against them, I'd just be putting a bigger target on my back."
Understanding that your mind was made up, Godric nodded and headed from the room.聽聽
"And me?" Ominis whispered, his voice trembling. "Do I get a say in this? Or are you saying goodbye?"聽
"I'm basically a muggle now, Ominis. I can't do anything if I'm attacked again. I can't stop someone from hurting us and this is a place to learn magic -which you have."聽
"I already learned everything they've been teaching us. Let me protect you this time." He cupped the back of your neck, pressing his forehead to yours desperately trying to keep you as close as possible while feeling like you were slipping away. "Please don't leave without me."聽
"Are you sure you'd be okay with me being this way?"聽
"I don't care about if you have magic or not. I care about you. The fiery woman who purposely taunted someone with powerful magic without hesitation after just losing your own. The woman who took on a war practically alone. Who saved me more times that I can even count. I care about you."聽
His thumb brushed against your cheek as you held in the happiness his admittance gave you.聽
"Okay Ominis," you whispered, resting your hand against his, feeling him relax.聽
聽 聽Sebastian and Anne agreed with Ominis and though you couldn't get out of the past now, you would find a small place to live out the rest of your lives while history took care of itself.聽
If only it was that easy.聽
Rowena and Helga asked you to stay long enough to fully recover. The four of you stayed in the hospital wing together to ensure Salazar wouldn't come back. But, the longer you remained in the castle, you started to hear voices, whisperings of someone calling out to you. No one else seemed to hear it.聽
One night, about a week later, you woke up to someone whispering in your ear, calling you to something. It tugged your body to sit up, instantly waking Ominis who had been worried you'd vanish one night, but when you didn't reply to him calling out to you, he immediately woke up the twins.聽
You locked eyes with Sebastian as his widened. "Ominis, her eyes are gold. I think she's under some kind of spell."聽
As if on que, your body started towards the door, your friends moving to follow, their wands out and ready for an ambush.聽
聽The feeling led you through the castle, down the hall, stairs and cavern until you reached the stone door, which opened as you approached.
Aware this could be a trap, your friends checked the corners for anyone possibly hiding in them or under the disillusionment charm, but found nothing.
You took a deep breath when the spell released its hold, Ominis moved to your side in relief.聽
"Are you alright?"聽
Nodding you looked at the box and book. "Yeah, it was like I had no control over myself. I could see everything, but I couldn't stop moving."
Everyone side glanced at how uncomfortable the situation was, but your attention quickly went to the necklace you had forgotten about which began to heat up, making you practically rip it free.
It was glowing slightly, the same color as the box before you, the same color your eyes had been under the spell. The bail holding the pendant disintegrated and the chain fell to the floor, dropping the symbol into your hand.
When you looked at the box, you saw the star symbol like an indent in the top, perfect for the necklace piece to fit into it.聽
Reaching out to test it, Sebastian spoke hurriedly. "Careful, it has a barrier."聽
You looked back at him, seeing him shrug. "The door opened after Salazar left. The spell shoots some kind of pulse through your body. It's painful."聽
Taking a deep breath, your fingers touched the barrier, it crumbled as if welcoming you, so you placed the pendant into the indention.聽
A clicking noise of the lock releasing sounded loudly in the quiet room, but as soon as the lid opened, the golden light shot right out of the box and slammed into you so hard, it knocked you backwards onto the floor.
The pain in your body faded instantly as you felt connected to everything, every nerve ending, beat of your heart, the movement you made on the floor. You could practically feel where everyone was with your eyes closed.聽
"What happened? Are you okay?" Ominis asked, lightly shaking your shoulder to get your attention.聽
You sat up seeing the box was gone and the book was floating right before your eyes. "Yeah, just different really. Like something changed I just don't know what."聽
Sebastian reached for the book, but the barrier shot up around it so he quickly pulled his hand back.聽
"Seems only you can read that book," Anne said examining it from afar.聽
You reached your hands out, the barrier dropping before it dropped into your hands. "Seems so."聽 聽

Chapter 8
In her Screams
聽聽 You kept reminding yourself to keep calm, to not let your emotions out. You had to, for the sake of your friends.
Ominis, Sebastian and Anne were knelt down on the other side of the room, bodies locked in a curse to keep still.
"I know you've found my Scriptorium and the secret room with my book and this room," he waved around the room. "I figured you'd want to know the truth about our magic, but you should have come to me. I would have willingly told you. Now, I'm just going to take what I want."
He approached you, his wand already glowing in anticipation as he grabbed a handful of your hair when you tried to back away and touched it to your chest.
It felt like ice had been dumped into your veins, starting with your heart and in that moment you felt your magic connect to Salazar's and a wicked grin spread on his face.
He began to pull his hand away, while ancient magic swirled from you.聽
Fighting, you tried to hold on to the warmth, but the emptiness kept growing as he easily overpowered you.
Anne and Sebastian watched in horror as Salazar inhaled your magic, before throwing you to the ground and headed towards the door.
Your muscles burned and ached as you looked to the twins who were trying to fight their binds. Their expressions were enough to tell you how bad things really were.聽
A growl of frustration sounded behind you, quickly followed by a loud explosion that sent a blast of heat to cascade over your skin.
"I should be powerful enough!" He hissed, spinning around to face you.
Trying to backtrack away from him seemed futile, but you knew the only reason you were alive right now was because you were still valuable. Not that you were going to give him what he wanted.聽 聽
"No!" Sebastian and Anne yelled at him as he kicked you onto your back and pointed his wand directly between your eyes, making you grateful the necklace remained under your clothes.
"You know more than I do, don't you? Tell me!"
His eyes were practically red as his hands shook in silent rage.
"I don't know anything-"
"Liar!" His eyes moved to your friends, splashing dread throughout your veins. "Maybe you'll change your mind after I torture your friends."
He moved off towards them after putting the leg locker curse on you.
"I don't know anything more than you do!" You snapped seeing him head towards Ominis.
He probably seen you two acting cozy earlier and was only attacking him because of it.聽
He ignored you, dead set on casting the torture curse on Ominis, his hands already gripping his wand in anticipation.
You saw Ominis trembling from where you laid, memories of his parents no doubt resurfacing as Salazar's footsteps grew closer and you knew you couldn't allow that to happen. Just the thought of hearing him scream in pain made your heart twist uncomfortably.聽
"I do know one thing!" You yelled desperately, getting Salazar to stop and look over his shoulder. "I do."
"Spit it out then."
Dropping your head, mostly to get ready for what you were about to do, you found a laugh bubbling out of your throat and you couldn't stop it.
"I'm completely magic-less and yet you're hanging on my every word," you teased, your friend's faces twisting between concern and fear as Salazar spun towards them and raised his wand, the torture curse on his tongue. "Especially since I was raised by muggles."
You never thought you'd wield that like a sword, especially to Salazar Slytherin. Time felt like it slowed as you stared, hoping you angered him enough, pushed the right buttons to make him forget all about torturing Ominis.聽聽
Salazar stopped as if processing the new information, while watching Anne, Ominis and Sebastian's faces tell him you weren't lying as their eyes widened in horror.
"No, she's lying!" Ominis said sharply, but it only told you that you were doing the right thing.聽
He still hadn't turned towards you, in an obvious daze. So, you swallowed and prepared yourself as your body trembled.聽"And now you're infected with more muggle magic."
He looked at you, eyes practically burning a hole through you as you laughed again. Pushing the right buttons, he completely ignored Ominis as he tried to grab his attention again.
"Crucio!"
"No!" Ominis yelled desperately as pain exploded throughout your body and a scream ripped from your lungs.
Neither Ominis's or Sebastian's spell hurt that much. This was like claws digging at your flesh, lava on your skin. Your muscles clenched so tightly they locked your joints up.聽
Salazar held the spell on you until the three other founders burst into the room and Godric hit him hard enough it stopped the connection.
As a fight broke out, Rowena moved closer to Anne, Ominis and Sebastian without getting hit, while Godric summoned their wands right out of Edward's hands and Helga broke the curses on your friends.
They easily joined the fight, defending Ominis while he ran over to you as soon as he could locate you, finding you unconscious and barely breathing.
Between the founders and your friends, they chewed away at Salazar's defenses until it was only him left.
"I'll be back," he said, shooting one last glare at your body before apperating.
Godric moved over, checking your breathing, having to reach past Ominis who had pulled you into his arms after kneeling beside you.
"She's barely alive." He pulled your body away from Ominis, having a bit of trouble when Ominis refused to let go for a moment and headed towards the exit.
He followed almost immediately, with Helga and Rowena trailing behind as something clicked behind the twins. They turned seeing the door opening.聽
Confused, they side glanced at each other, before walking over and peering into the room.聽
It was small, well protected with ancient magic they couldn't see floating around, though without the large suits of armor that attacked if someone approached.聽
They walked in, seeing a box with a strange golden light shining through the cracks on top of a book.聽
Sebastian moved before it and reached out, but found a barrier that shocked him hard enough that he collapsed to his knees, instantly making him nauseous.聽
"Sebastian! Are you okay?" Anne moved to her brother, helping him up to his feet, quickly noticing how he wobbled.聽
"Yeah, it's protected from being stolen. I don't know how, but I don't think we're going to get that book or box any time soon."聽
Anne nodded, looking at the funny looking symbol carved onto the top. "Why don't we go check on our friends. They're more important right now."聽
"Yeah, we should."聽
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽Ominis was lost in his own head, while the founders checked on you. Having told them that Salazar took your magic, the three of them actually looked concerned, but whether that was because you lost all your magic or because Salazar was now a lot stronger, no one could decipher.聽聽
Sebastian stared out of the window, while Anne sat numbly beside him. None of them had ever heard you purposely goad someone before, especially while laughing. It was unsettling how easily you disregarded your own safety to defend them.聽
Ominis knew you took that spell for him and that ate at him. You had been unconscious since, which made knowing your condition harder. He held onto your hand, to make sure you weren't cold, his pinky over the gentle beating in your wrist, being your breathing was so shallow even he could barely hear it.聽聽
"It wasn't your fault," Anne said softly as she walked over. "She knew that mentioning being raised by muggles would put his rage onto her."聽
"I know, but she shouldn't have done it. I could have-" He stopped himself, the idea of being at the mercy of that curse made his skin crawl, but knowing she was and nearly died from it, was a worse kind of pain he hadn't experienced before. He never felt the urge to kill someone, until that moment.聽
"There was nothing you could have done the moment she mentioned her parents," Sebastian replied, his eyes glaring at a particular cloud that told of a coming storm. "Which is why she used it the way she did."聽
"He hurt someone you love, that's not easy to deal with," Anne whispered, her eyes traveling to your face.聽
Ominis tripped over the word love. He wasn't sure he even knew what love was, but from what books described, it certainly felt close to it.
"Love?"聽
Sebastian stood and moved beside his friend. "You were scared to be hit with that curse, right?" He waited only long enough for Ominis to nod. "But the moment you heard her mention being raised by muggles, how'd you feel?"聽
His lips trembled as he opened his mouth. "I wouldn't have cared how many times I'd have to go through that pain, if it meant she never did."聽
Realization crashed down on him as he gripped your hand tightly. He never took into consideration why he was willing to take that curse. He was just desperate that you didn't.聽
It only became worse when that moment replayed. You had done the same for him, by using something you knew Salazar would find disgusting.聽
"Does she love me?"聽聽
Knowing they couldn't answer, the Sallows fell silent and looked at each other.聽聽

Chapter 7
Door with No Key
聽聽 The four of you moved through Hogwarts's halls. Godric, Helga and Rowena were working together to keep Salazar distracted all day, explaining away your absence to meeting with your parents on important business from your old school.
You moved into the empty, near-dead-end room Salazar mentioned in the book.
"How far are the caverns in this place?" Sebastian asked, the light from your wand illuminating the scrap of the stone.
"According to Salazar, past this room is a long hall, followed by a winding staircase carved into the rock, then we'll reach the cavern. After that, we follow the path further down to a circular room with a door."
"That's a long way to go for a dead end," Ominis mumbled.聽
He felt a little better when he woke up that morning, but he was still worried about how things were going to end. The last war didn't end without everyone coming to fight and those numbers were drastically reduced.聽
You pulled on the book, which popped open the door, making the stone scrape across the floor. The path was dark and foreboding, reminding you of Salazar's secret room.聽
A chorus of Lumos rang out while you led the group down the long hall that felt like it ran the length of the school itself, before finally finding the stairs, which went on longer than the hall did.聽
The cavern itself was lit up with braziers as if it was travelled extensively for secrets, but the cleanest path led to a room that reminded you of the map chamber if it wasn't so far under the school and didn't have what looked like lava soaking parts of the walls.聽
"This is the room?" Sebastian asked, already moving around to look at the various writing and pictures carved into the stone.聽
"According to Salazar's notes, yes," you answered, eyes on the door that was scorched with past spells.聽
"This place smells like burnt hair and sulphur," Ominis mentioned as he covered his nose.聽聽
You glanced his way, seeing his discomfort as his wand pulsed at a higher rate of speed than you've seen before.聽
"Do you want to head back?"聽
He shook his head. "No, this is likely the only time we're going to be in this place. If this will help you, we need to stay as long as possible to try finding what you might need."聽
Nodding, you looked towards the twins who seemed to have the same feeling you did, look as thorough, but as fast as possible.聽
Sebastian went to the books that were set up on the table nearby, which Anne searched the walls and you checked out the door.聽
Ancient magic swirled around the cracks of the door, which moved into certain pictures carved into the rock. One was of three people finding the room. The second lit up showing one person stabbing themselves and the third was two people being surrounded with a swirl that seemed dark on one and light on the other.
"Stabbing themselves?" You mumbled grabbing Ominis's attention.聽
"Pardon?"聽
"The pictures lighting up on the door. They're showing three people finding the room, one stabbing themselves and the other two surrounded by two different types of magic."聽
"It's not stabbing yourself," Sebastian said bringing over one of the books. "Salazar already tried that and even smeared his blood on the door itself. Nothing opened the door."聽
You grimaced at the rust looking stain on the stone. "Thanks for the new nightmares. What else does that book say?"聽
"It says that he only saw two pictures illuminate. He seemed to think the magic behind that door chooses which it decides to let in and it doesn't want Salazar."聽
"That must be the real reason he wants you to become his apprentice. To see if you can open that door," Anne said, glancing at everyone in worry.聽
"And kill her afterwards," Ominis added. "Salazar isn't known to share and he'd see her as a threat once he gets what he wants."聽
"Fantastic," you grumbled, your eyes travelling to the door again. "Whatever is behind that door, I don't think it's a mass of magic. It doesn't give the same feeling those repositories did."聽
"Do you want to guess at what it is?" Sebastian asked.聽
You shrugged while staring at the door. "I have no idea, but whatever it is, it's better off not being opened by Salazar."聽
聽 聽 聽 聽Back in Godric's office, Rowena, Helga and Godric listened to you describe what your group found under the school. Their faces slowly slipped into concern the more you spoke.聽
"You have the same magic, can't you get into that room?"聽
If it was that easy you'd think you'd have taken longer to check in because you'd have already tried it.聽
"No, I don't think I can. The door doesn't come with coherent instructions and it didn't show any signs of opening with me there."聽
Helga looked to her fellow founders. "How do we stop Salazar from getting another magical boost without knowing how? We can't distract him forever. He's already suspicious of us for it today. I wouldn't be surprised if he checked those secret places to make sure nothing was missing."聽
"Is there any other places you might have heard or known about that have strange magic or makes people feel as though it's eerie to go near?"
Godric shook his head and looked to Helga and Rowena.
"Not far from here there's a spot of land that I've noticed flourishes with magic, almost astoundingly so. I haven't mentioned anything because it's a good spot for growing plants, but you can at least look into it," Rowena mentioned, tapping his chin.聽
You nodded and looked to your friends. "We still have half a day, should we?"
"I'm curious," Sebastian admitted, getting his sister to nod.
"Alright," Ominis whispered.
聽聽
聽 聽聽 Following the hastily drawn map, you began to recognize the path after a while.
"Am I the only one who-"
"Hogsmeade," Anne finished.
"Yeah, I always felt like it had an abundance of power," Sebastian laughed as he looked around at the plants surrounding us.
"But, I never seen any signs of ancient magic around here and I've been all over this place."
"Maybe one of the keepers already took it? Or altered it?" Sebastian offered.
It could have been plausible, but it still made you feel sort of stupid for missing it.
Warmth slipped around your wrist, before Ominis slipped his fingers between yours. "You were rather busy then. Dodging me, my parents, your parents. Working with Fig, Sebastian and the keepers. Fighting Rookwood, Harlow, Ranrok and every goblin or ashwinder who attacked. Helping anyone who called out to you."
Chuckling you squeezed his hand. "Fair point."
"You two should be sold at Honeydukes," Sebastian teased, getting hit by his sister.
"Stop it! Let them have these moments without interrupting them."
Rolling your eyes, you looked to Ominis, who had turned red.
You walked a little bit longer until you came to a spot where the plants were almost three times the size they normally were.
"I'd say it's concentrated here," Anne said kicking at the ground. "But nowhere to get into a cave or a passage, nothing."
You looked around but didn't see any signs of ancient magic either.
"Maybe you should walk around a little?" Sebastian offered upon seeing disappointment flicker over your face.
Nodding, you moved forward as Ominis's hand slipped from yours.
"We'll search around too. Call out if you find anything," Anne added.
"Okay," you said, though you weren't sure if they'd be able to find anything without being able to see it, but appreciated the help anyway.
Venomous tentacula followed your movement as you passed.
The rolling hill didn't have very many trees but the ones there were had been in a cluster.
Thinking it was the best place to hide something, you walked over seeing a few silver bubbles slipping out from under some of the bark on the tree.
Curious you reached out towards it, the bark curling away as your hand approached.
Reaching in, you felt something akin to a pedestal inside, with something small placed on top of it.
Carefully pulling it free, the tree vanished from existence as you looked down at the object in your hand seeing a golden necklace and chain with a star-like symbol.
It didn't have any magic surrounding it as you inspected it.
"Fancy meeting you here," Salazar's voice called out from behind you.
Glancing back, you couldn't see him past the trees.
"Come on out. We have things to discuss."
You quickly put the necklace on and hid it under your clothes before stepping out into the open.
Anne, Sebastian and Ominis were being held by a different student, with their wands being held by a fourth, the guy who was jealous of the attention Salazar was giving you.
"I told you that I'm not a patient man," Salazar said with an exaggerated wave down his person. "Now, if you don't want to lose your friends, it's time we came to an agreement."

Chapter 6
Losing You
聽 聽Godric was waiting for the four of you as you walked into his office. Helga and Rowena weren't there, but you got the feeling that he would inform them later.聽
"Please sit down," he said as two more chairs appeared in front of his desk.聽
"If you're busy, we can come back later," you replied, already trying to make a break for the door.聽
He chuckled as he looked up. "I'm not busy, please sit."聽
Sebastian smirked as you huffed softly and made your way over to one of the chairs. Godric's brow raised when you half fell into it, but his eyes moved to Ominis when he sat beside you, then to the twins who took the last two spots.聽
"Alright then, did you find what you were looking for?" Godric asked, smirking when you shifted.聽
"Not really."聽
Realizing you weren't going to elaborate, he looked to Ominis. "Alright, let's start the ball rolling with you. You're a parseltongue like Salazar, but that's about the extent that I know about you."
"Speaking to snakes runs in my family. The Gaunts. We're descendants of Salazar Slytherin. Most of my family dabble in dark arts or go dark completely. Nothing I'm especially proud of, mind you. They taught me Crucio when I was a child. Their sport was using it on muggles and they used it on me when I refused. When I was asked again, I used it. The result was-" he sighed, glancing over towards you, knowing you were glaring at the desk before you. "catastrophic for them."聽聽
"Why did you look at her?"聽
You sighed, wanting this to be over as quickly as possible. "I'm a pureblood, but my magic didn't show strong enough to be recognized by the school. My father, being a dark wizard and pureblood crazed, dumped me into the muggle world where I was brought in by two muggles. We came across the Gaunt family one night and... my muggle father died that night. I went to Hogwarts at fifteen, where I met Ominis again."聽
"That explains why you're not jumping on the trust wagon," Godric tried teasing. "So, a pureblood muggle? I didn't see that coming."聽
Rolling your eyes, you pressed on. "Dealing with the fact that I could see magic no one else could, being attacked by a dragon on the way in, being dropped in the middle of a war, being new to school, having five years worth of schoolwork to catch up on, helping Fig solve his wife's desire to find the secret to ancient magic and figuring out the Gaunts were the ones who tortured my family and I, I really didn't need them to come back into my life with my actual parents."聽
Godric blinked and looked to Sebastian who nodded as Ominis tensed. "On top of helping me try finding a cure for Anne and my uncle trying to murder us and me killing him instead."聽
Godric waved his hand sharply. "This was all going on before you were brought here?"聽
"No, we managed to take care of it all before the end of the fifth year," Ominis answered, his hand gently resting on your wrist, hidden by Godric's desk. "One of the repositories is a keeper, one who could wield ancient magic as well, broke and began to eat away at a town not far from here. She went to contain it and instead it send us here."
"Not knowing who you could trust, if anyone. I see," Godric whispered, sitting back in his chair. "This makes this complicated."聽
"Salazar kept a book that says there is some kind of cavern under the school with a locked door he's been trying to get into. Even stealing powers to break it open. I believe it's where he learned about ancient magic. I would like to go and find it."聽
"You want me to keep him distracted again?"聽
"We need an excuse to disappear long enough without people asking questions. Something believable," you admitted, carefully watching his expression turned to concentration.聽聽
"I'm sure I can figure something out, but Salazar isn't easily fooled, nor is he able to wait. He wants you to be his apprentice, he will do whatever he can to force you into the role, even if it means he breaks you and your friends first."
"We're a lot stronger than you think and way too stubborn to give up," Sebastian replied, glaring at Godric.
"I certainly hope so."
"Salazar mentioned, in the book, that ancient magic gets stronger with age. Does that mean-"
Godric drummed his fingers on his desk. "Not necessarily. Older your magic may be, you've only had it for sixteen years, a year using it yourself. You could be as vulnerable as Miss Apollo. You mustn't put all your hopes into one possibility."
"Then what do you suggest?" Anne asked twisting in her seat sharply. "Open war in the halls?"
"Not if I can help it. The four of us aren't strong enough to duel him, but you" -he pointed directly to you- "you might be able to at least drive him from the school."
"You plan to pit them against each other?" Ominis's voice raised an octave, drawing everyone's gaze. "A founder against a student?"
"Ideally, I wouldn't want to do this to anyone, but Salazar sees something in you. Something that frightens him, otherwise he'd treat you the same as any other student. I have no other choice but to put the school and it's inhabitants in your hands."
Fear streaked across your face as you stared into eyes that breached the depths of sadness you couldn't describe.
聽 聽 "What the heck is wrong with him? Pitting a student against a professor?" Ominis hissed, his hair already half strung about after frustratingly running his hands over it.
"We knew it had to be something like this," Sebastian replied, getting a glare.
"We never told him that you took on Rookwood or a small army of ashwinders and he already practically signed you up for this fight."
"Salazar does leave the school and vanish under mysterious circumstances, maybe he's supposed to go toe to toe with-"
"No, that's just assuming we came here for a reason!" Ominis hissed, getting them to sigh.
Anne looked to you, motioning towards Ominis in desperation.
You nodded and stood, seeing them leave the room.
"This is insane," he whispered before you stepped into his path, wrapping your arms around him when he walked into you.
"It's okay."
His arms wrapped around you, holding on as if you were about to fade out of existence.
"It's not," he whispered, his grip tightening. "Look, I don't care what time we're in. We can just leave."
He tensed when you pulled back enough to look at him. "Ominis?"
"This isn't fair to ask, I know, but- why is it always you being thrown into danger?"
He was blushing deeply, but the worry written on his features outweighed it.
"It's just the way it is," you said, though even you were tired of there always being another crisis that needed your help.
"Lying to yourself now?"
You couldn't help but smile at his old bone of contention.
"Well, I did promise not to lie to you, so lying to myself is the next best thing."
The odd comment cracked through his worry and he laughed. "Don't do that. Be honest with yourself, otherwise you'd end up in worse pain than before. Lie to Sebastian."
Knowing he was joking, you chuckled as he ran his fingers over the skin in your face. "I'll consider it."
"How are you feeling? It can't be easy for everything to rest on your shoulders."
You shrugged. "It's not really any different from going up against Rookwood."
He hummed in thought, his features smoothing out. "What if he uses those curses on you?"
"Better me than you, Sebastian or Anne."
You watched as something broke in him, his face quickly crumbling, so you pulled him back into a hug.
"I doubt it's going to go that far."
His fingers half clawed at your back.
You looked around, before gently pulling his face up, wiping away the stray tears.
"We don't have to leave until tomorrow," you pulled him towards the bed. "Come on, it's been a long day already."
He half collapsed onto the blankets, the strain of how things are going coupled with how terrible Salazar was, reaching near crushing limits as you sat down on the other side of the bed.
He grabbed your hand, tugging on it as if asking for you to lay down with him. So, you slid down beside him, feeling him shift close.
"I'm sorry Ominis," you whispered as you listened to him trying to hush his emotions. "I really wish you were safe in the future still."
His reply came in the form of pulling you tightly to him.
"You're going to be okay," you encouraged brushing your fingers over his cheeks, the crease between his brows ready smoothing out.
Being his other senses were stronger than yours, he always relaxed when you grazed his skin. You brought him peace in an otherwise dark life. He was afraid to lose the light you brought into his life. The warmth and care he never felt before. He was afraid to lose everything that meant something to him. Something he wouldn't be able to replace. He was afraid to lose you.
"We're going to be okay," he clarified after inhaling sharply. "While you're busy protecting everyone, I'll protect you."

Chapter 5
The Scriptorium
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽Being back in the scriptorium was eerie, especially with it being less dusty and more lived in, but at least you didn't have to go through being tortured to get in.聽
You and Sebastian immediately set to work with trying to find anything about ancient magic, while Anne and Ominis wandered around not knowing what to do.聽
While Sebastian went for the book shelf, you thought it was too obvious, so you started digging through the desk, though you didn't find anything. So, you moved to glance around, but didn't even see any ancient magic traces either.聽
Frustrated, you moved towards a snake torch that was the only one unlit. Taking out your wand, you cast incendio on the torch, it flared up and went out nearly instantly.聽
"Curious," you mumbled as Anne and Ominis attention turned towards you.聽
You backed up and hit the torch with confringo, hearing something click and a door behind one of the walls opened.聽
"I don't recall this passage way being here before," Ominis said as you peeked down the dark corridor.聽
"So, do we go down the creepy path or decide against it?"聽
When you looked back, Ominis was smiling. "You're asking us now?"聽
Giving him a smile, you replied. "Yeah, we're a team."聽
He reached out, fishing around for your hand, so you moved it into his path, where he grabbed it and squeezed it. "We are."聽
"You two are getting sickly cute, save that for when you're alone," Sebastian teased, getting a whack for it.聽
"We're never alone and when we are, you keep interrupting us," you complained as you led everyone down the stairs, still holding Ominis's hand.
"You two just have bad timing on your romantic moments."聽
"Sebastian," Anne hissed as you shook your head, mentally reminding yourself to curse him with the leg locker later.
You stepped down into a dimly lit room seeing another desk, but a book on a podium in the middle of the room was swirling with ancient magic.聽
"I think we found it," you said walking over.聽
"This place is creepy," Anne said wiping at some dust on the nearest shelf.聽
You reached out towards the book, but once your hand touched it, a metal snake wove around your wrist and bit down on your arm, while it hissed at you.聽
Ominis started conversing in parseltongue while you tried to shove it off, but it only did once the snake language stop.聽
You ripped yourself way from the stand, grabbing your arm as you groaned in pain. Ominis was already pushing a wiggenweld potion into your hand after uncorking it.聽
"What was that all about?"聽
Fire was quickly spreading through your veins, making you want to jump into the black lake in winter.聽
"Later, first drink this. That snake had poison in it's teeth," Ominis said snatching the book quickly off the stand as you downed the potion, the fire slowly extinguished.聽
"That wasn't exciting," Anne said rolling up your sleeve to see the two puncture marks rapidly healing.聽
"I hate this place," you whispered as you took the book back and opened it away from your face just in case there was more magic protecting it. "I hate Salazar Slytherin."聽
"That doesn't include me right? Descendant of Salazar."聽
You lightly patted his shoulder. "No it doesn't, but I'm starting to think you're not related. You are the exact opposite of Salazar."聽
He smiled as he blushed, pleased with that answer, but you weren't saying it to make him feel better, you meant it.聽
You heard stone scraping, making all of you look back towards the noise.聽
"We have to get out of here!" Sebastian hissed softly, his eyes already glancing around the room as if an exit would magically appear.聽
I looked around seeing a familiar swirl of magic on the door.
"This way," you said, grabbing Ominis's hand and pulling him after you.
Ominis groaned once you passed through. "This is unsettling. Are we in the common room?"
"Yeah, that makes me feel better about sleeping here," Anne whispered, getting all of you to nod before heading to your dormitory.
You sound proofed the room as all of you sat down.
"When should we go talk to Godric?" Anne asked after you sat in a moment of silence. "We did promise him."
"I know, but tomorrow," you replied, trying to calm your racing heart. "I still haven't learned the true secret this book is keeping."
She nodded as she flopped down onto her bed. "Alright, then I'm going to go to sleep. We have an early day tomorrow."
You sit against the headboard and opened the book, instantly seeing ancient magic swirling.
"It's empty?" Sebastian half growled as he flipped the pages to the middle.
"No, I can see the words. I think he hid them."
"Makes sense," Ominis replied, running his hand over the page. "You wouldn't want just anyone reading the book."
Sebastian huffed before tossing his robe onto his bed. "I figured that snake was enough."
Sighing, you started to look through the book, as the twins left to get ready for bed.
"Thank you," you whispered, lightly pressing your shoulder into Ominis's.
"For what?"
"Telling the snake to let go."
Blush spread across his cheeks as he bowed his head a little out of embarrassment.
"I'm sorry it bit you," he said, already reaching over to wrap his hand around your wrist.
"It's not your fault."
He rested his head against yours, his eyes closed as his body relaxed.
"How are you feeling?"
Nearly chuckling, you shifting your head to face his. "I'm alright. The pain and the burning are gone."
"That's good," he whispered as his fingers traced along your cheek while he lifted his forehead from yours. "I wish I could see you everyday."
"Ominis, you see me better than anyone else ever could."
He smiled bashfully, his eyelashes casting shadows down his cheeks as he bowed his head.
"Do you mean that? You don't mind that I can't see- you could do better."
Feeling this was more of an insecurity of his rather than him thinking you worried about it, you replied. "I've never once thought that you being blind was a disability. It's apart of who you are and I like you. All of you."
His eyes flickered closed while you ran your fingers under his eye.
"Your eyes are beautiful, especially in the light."
He pressed your hand into his cheek, while a tear jetted down them.
As you carefully pulled him closer, you pressed your lips between his brows, hearing him sigh.
"You're not mad?"
Confused, you pulled back to look at him. "About what?"
"Me asking about it? About wishing you'd pick better?"
"No, I'm not mad. I couldn't ever be mad about you wanting better for me, even if I'm supposed to decide that. And about you being blind, everyone has things they feel makes them different and people will pick at it until their voice bullies us in our heads long after they've left our lives. It doesn't make it true. Being blind is the same as having magic, it's just a part of us."
His hand left yours before his fingers brushed against your face until they ran across your bottom lip, getting your breathing to hitch.聽
Both of you jumped when the door opened and the twins came into the room.聽
Ominis sighed as he pulled back. "I swear, they have terrible timing."聽
Laughing to hide your disappointment, you moved to begin reading the scriptorium's book as Ominis headed towards the twins.聽
The book was mostly Salazar's thoughts and ideas about the magic he had and no one else seemed to, but he felt that it was older magic that seemed to get stronger as he aged. It even had a few spells he had created with it, one being the spell he used to steal Apollo's magic. He ended up finding a cave no one would touch below the castle, further than you had gone with the Keepers.聽
"What's wrong?"聽
You looked up seeing Anne watching you, grabbing her brother and Ominis's attention.聽
"According to this, there are caverns under the school."聽
"We know that, the repositories-"
You shook your head. "No, deeper than that," you said moving closer to point out the paragraph forgetting they couldn't read it for a moment. "This says that Salazar tried to find how to open a door down there, but it refused to open. There were no keys, no spells could get through, nothing. He's stealing magic to amplify his own to try breaking in."聽
"And he now has his eyes set onto you," Ominis whispered, shifting closer. "What do you want to do?"聽
"Well, running isn't going to help anyone, but maybe I can find a way into the cavern to see the door. It might have answers for what exactly this magic is."聽
"If Salazar finds his book gone, he'll know we're looking into this. We need this to be a surprise, so maybe we should try to put the book back while we have the chance to," Sebastian replied as he closed the book. "Did you read through it?"聽
"Yeah, it was mostly Salazar's thoughts and spells, but nothing that explains why only we have access to it."聽
"Then after we talk to Godric, Helga and Rowena, we need to ask then to cover for us while we go digging through that cavern."聽
Nodding, all of you moved to head to bed, agreeing to put the book back in the morning.聽聽

Chapter 4
What is Ancient Magic?
聽聽 Ominis must have told the twins, because the three of them had begun to come with you everywhere, making it harder for Salazar to catch you alone, much to his dismay.
All of you searched the library despite what Salazar told you, but found nothing.
"This is frustrating," Anne whispered, dropping her head to the desk.
"It's ancient magic in our time, right?" Sebastian asked, drawing everyone's attention. "Isn't that just magic in ancient times?"
You shrugged when he looked at you. "Percival, Charles, Niamh and San didn't have that knowledge either. I'm just as in the dark about it as you."
"What about getting into the scriptorium?" Sebastian asked softly, earning a glare from you. "We know how to get in without the unforgivables. He may have something there."
"But-"
"No, Sebastian has a point," you mumbled, sitting back in the chair. "I don't like the idea of going back, but Salazar would hide things there that he'd want secret. The only problem, is distracting Salazar and we don't have Fig's help this time."
"We can ask Godric to distract him," Anne offered, her voice going softer the more everyone started at her guilt ridden face.
"What'd you do?" She looked startled and avoided your eyes as you wagged a finger in her direction. "That's the Sallow tell. You've done something."
She sighed and shifted. "I told Godric."
"About what?" You half growled, making her flinch.
"About almost everything."
You slammed your hand down on the table in irritation. "Damn it, that explains their confrontation in the hall last night."
Ominis nodded as the twins shifted sharply.
"What confrontation?"
"Godric was telling Salazar to leave her alone. Salazar refused and said that if she refused to become his apprentice, he'd take her magic and we all know what he does after that," Ominis answered as you felt panic shoot through you.
"I didn't mean to-"
You took a calming breath, trying to stop your heart from clenching and your stomach twisting.
"You two are terrible with secrets," Ominis whispered as he rested his hand on your back as you rubbed your face.
You knew they weren't trying to betray you, but it certainly felt like it and you couldn't stop the memories you've been trying to forget.
"Are you okay?" Ominis whispered as the twins moved closer.
You shook your head. "I can't breathe."
Ominis pulled you against him as you tried regaining control over your body.
You held onto his arms while squeezing your eyes closed to block out the twin's faces and the library around you.
"What's going on?" Sebastian asked, his chair scooting back before you felt it move beside yours.
Ominis shook his head. "She has these from time to time when something reminds her of her past."
"I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't have said anything. I'm just not used to having to do things alone. I've always had adults to guide me. I didn't know it was going to do this," she said, her voice filling with emotion. "Is she going to be okay?"
"Give her a little bit, she'll work through this, just stop talking."
Nodding, the twins fell silent as Ominis tightened his grip, while he encouraged you to even out your breathing.
After a little bit, everyone began to relax as your sharp inhaling slowed to a stop. You still leaned heavily into Ominis, but he didn't seem to mind.
"Are you okay?" He whispered, lifting his chin from your shoulder.
"Yeah." Was all you could get out, too afraid to see the expressions on the twins' faces.
"How long has this been going on?" Sebastian whispered, looking to Ominis.
"It's not all the time," he answered softly. "She had the same kind of thing after Solomon's death and from time to time, I'll hear her at night breathing like this."
"That explains the times I've caught you two in the same bed in the morning," Sebastian teased, but it wasn't the same tone he usually used.
"Strong emotions bring this up?" Anne asked, reaching over to rest her hand on your arm.
"Strong bad emotions."
"Like Anne telling Godric. Salazar after her-"
Sebastian got whacked to shush, as your eyes flickered closed.
"I'm okay now Ominis."
He let go, so you sat up before his hand slipped into yours under the table.
"I'm sorry, I really am. I didn't think-"
"It's okay, I know going forward without help is scary. I don't blame you for wanting to feel like you have back up if things go south."
Ominis squeezed your hand. "Now, let's go see if we can't get him in on the plan."
"Wait, really?"
You shrugged. "Might as well try. Better to know if he'd betray us now, rather than later."
聽 聽 聽 聽You found Godric in his study talking with Helga and Rowena. They looked over as he welcomed you to enter, his expression brightening upon seeing your group.聽
"Ah, it's good to see the four of you. I suspect you've come to talk to me about what Miss Sallow had told me yesterday?"聽
Anne blushed when everyone looked over her way.聽
"Did you tell Salazar?" You asked cutting to the chase, earning a smirk to spread on his face.聽
"You're certainly someone who gets straight to the point," Rowena said, not too happy about the tone you've used while asking.聽
"Did you?"聽
"We are your professors here, watch your tone," she warned.聽
"I've just had my life threatened by one of my professors Rowena, so you'll excuse me for not showing the proper courtesy and wanting an answer instead of bickering like a child over semantics. Now, did you tell Salazar about what Anne said."聽
Ominis took your wrist as he moved beside you. "Easy, please?"
Godric chuckled as he stood. "No, I want Salazar stopped as much as I assume you do. We're not strong enough to stop him, as you've probably heard last night along with his threats. You have the power to stop him. It was something we were discussing."聽
Anne swallowed hard when you glared in her direction, but you knew that word was going to spread once she admitted to telling him.聽
"We have no intention of warning Salazar. In fact I want you to master your power."聽
"So I can take care of your problem?"聽
Helga moved to take a step forward, something she clearly rethought about when you took a step back. "All of us are in trouble. Salazar roams unchecked because he uses this ancient magic over our heads. We can't defend against what we can't see."聽
"You're kidding me," you hissed, glaring at each one of them. "The greatest wizards and witches we know can't take on Salazar?"聽
"Maybe that's why you needed to come back to this time," Godric offered with a polite smile. "Maybe you were the one who stopped him."聽
That felt like a flimsy attempt at manipulation or flattery if you ever heard one, which only made you glare.聽
"You came here for a reason," Rowena added, drawing your gaze her way. "What are you hoping to get from us?"聽
"You? Nothing. Him," you pointed at Godric, "someone to distract Salazar while we sneak into his office looking for books on the magic he and I share."聽
"Wouldn't it be easier to just let him mentor you? You'll get to know his magic and how it works," Godric replied as he rounded his desk to stand between both of his co-founders.聽
"Spend alone time with a guy who threatened to steal my magic and kill me?" You scoffed, shaking your head. "Yeah, that's not going to happen."聽
"Why? You don't want that magic anyway. You were going to let him take it in the library a few days ago, weren't you? It's why you wondered out loud why he didn't."聽
Sebastian and Anne's eyes widened before they looked your way. "What is he talking about?"聽
"It's not the time to discuss that," you clarified, your eyes not leaving Godric's which seemed to make him change his demeanor.聽
"Why are you so closed off? What happened to you?"聽
You almost laughed at the concern on his face, thinking it was fake. "If Anne told you everything-"
"I didn't tell him about our past, just why and how we're here."
Your anger simmered as you looked towards the waiting adults. "Will you distract him or not?"聽
Godric sighed, obviously losing his patience with your unwillingness to share things. "If I do this, I want something in return."
"Which is?"聽
"Your story," he answered, watching as you shifted your weight onto the other foot.聽
"Why? What does it matter?"聽
He gave a nonchalant wave. "Because you want to hide it. It makes me curious about why you want to go back to a place that hurt you that badly, but I know you won't trust me to keep my end of the bargain. So I will hear it after you're done finding whatever it is you're looking for."聽
"Just hers?" Sebastian asked, getting a laugh.聽
"I can listen to all of yours, if you wish. It would color in the missing pieces to help us better help you."聽
Ominis moved his head towards you when you sighed. "Fine, deal."聽
"Are you sure?" He asked, his hand finding yours.聽
"It's not like everyone in our time doesn't know," you replied, before locking gazes with Godric. "And it's not as if I'm purposely hiding it, I just don't prefer to talk about it. There is a difference."聽
"Alright then, stay here for a while, we'll go looking for Salazar. We have something to discuss anyway."聽
Your brow raised before you could stop it. "Which is?"聽
"The death of Amara Apollo."聽 聽

Chapter 3
Caught in a Trap
聽 聽 "We need help," Anne said sitting harshly on the bed. "We can't have bullies coming after us too!"
"Anne, please breathe."
She glared at her brother, but took a breath. "Godric might be able to help us. Let's just explain it to him."
"Or he might be working with Salazar too."
She half slapped her leg in frustration. "Not everyone is going to betray you!"
"Not everyone is going to end up your friend either. Unless we can guarantee he wouldn't give Salazar the information we tell him, I can't just trust anyone who comes across our path that seems nice."
"You keep living in the past! Not trusting anyone will be your downfall!"
She looked like she regretted the words as soon as she said them.
Realizing both of you had gotten too emotional, you stood up to leave.
"Where are you going?" Ominis asked, his wand already lifting up to track your movements.
"I'm going for a walk."
"Wait-" Anne started, but you kept walking.
聽 聽 聽 You found the library, not as full as the one you knew, but you quickly realized the restricted section books were laying about freely.
Shaking your head, you moved to try finding something that tells you about something related to repositories, but it had less than the future library had.
"Looking for answers?"
You jumped, having been too focused on research to notice Salazar had gotten close.
"You're not going to find them here. Most of these books belong to Rowena and Helga. If you want to know how to control your magic, you need to look for someone who has it. In this case me."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
He chuckled as you slipped the book you were holding back onto the shelf. "I know you saw the magic I took from that girl. Now, we can do this the easy way or the hard way."
He pulled his wand from his sleeve and pointed it at you.
"What? You want my magic?" You asked looking up at him. "Kill me afterwards?"
"People like us are rare as it is. To waste such a talent." He shook his head, taking a step closer. "I want to help you realize your talent."
He smiled as you remained quiet, just watching him, waiting for him to tell you the whole truth.
"Why don't you think about it? Though, I'm not a patient man, I won't wait forever."
He walked off with a nonchalant smirk, while you released the breath you'd been holding.
"He didn't take my magic? Why? I would have thought he'd want it."
"Why do you sound like you hoped he would?"
Jumping once again, you spun seeing Ominis behind you.
"You gave me a start."
His features remained neutral. "You're ignoring the topic."
"There's nothing to say."
"I believe there is. Since when do you not want to be magical?" He asked moving closer, his expression pinching in what you could almost mistake for fear.
"It's not that I don't, it's just... complicated."
"Is this because of all the attention it gets?"
Sighing, you sat down where you could see the whole library. "No, it's- after Rookwood, Harlow, Ranrok, sealing the repository and curing Anne, I thought I was done being the magical freak," you admitted getting his brows to bunch. "It's hard to explain. I just feel like...the more I find out about this magic, the more I use it, I lose a piece of myself. How long until I'm no longer me? How long until I'm just another Ranrok or Isadora?"
He reached into your pocket and pulled your dad's pocket watch out. "Remember what he said." He placed it in your palm and cupped your hand between his. "You have a choice."
"I'm not so sure anymore," you whispered, feeling his hands tighten.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm always going to be hunted for what I have. How long until I turn bitter? I'm already guarded and can't trust people easily."
He slid his hands carefully to the sides of your face. "Those who're guarded, have something valuable to protect. Something they know deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. Besides the people who want you just for magic, aren't worth worrying about. If you're that concerned about it, we can become two bitter people, scaring anyone trying to come up to our house because we want to be left alone."
Picturing it made you laugh as he pulled you against him.
"Sounds good to me."
He nodded before resting his head on yours. "Me too."
聽 聽 "I think the two of you should take Godric up on his offer," you started getting them to look over in shock. "If I could get Salazar to let Ominis go, I'd ask him the same. Before you argue, Salazar is the type to torture you until I agree with becoming his student."
"Splitting us up isn't the answer," Sebastian replied turning to face you. "It just leaves you and Ominis vulnerable. We're staying."
"But-"
"I agree with Sebastian. I can't pretend that I don't see what would happen if we did follow that route."
Ominis leaned against the bed post beside you. "There is no guarantee that Godric wouldn't hurt them either."
Rubbing your forehead, you sighed softly. "I know. I just don't want to lose everything we've worked so hard for."
The twins instantly backed down from their defensive stance.
"Why don't you allow Salazar to teach you?"
All eyes snapped to Sebastian, half glaring, Ominis's brows pinched.
"Hear me out before you voice disagreement. We know that ancient magic brought us here and it's fair to assume it's the key to get home. The keepers taught you a lot through memories, but not all, right?" He waited for you to nod before pressing on. "Salazar can help get better control over your magic. Maybe you'll learn how to take us home."
"Don't put that kind of pressure on her shoulders," Ominis said sharply.
"There's no repositories we can use. Percival hasn't been born yet. We have to work with what we're presented, right?"
"That's not fair to ask," Anne whispered.
Seeing the merit of his point, it only clashed against your desire to stay away from Salazar.
"I'll decide tomorrow night. Until then, I'm going to check the grounds." You stood, nearly knocking into Ominis.
"Not alone," he called after you, making you look back at him. "Please not alone."
"Your animagus forms are hard to hide. I'm small enough to get places most can't. I'll be careful. I promise."
You left before he could say anything else.
聽聽 You moved through the dungeons, trying to see if you could still get into the repository's caverns, but Percival must have crafted it himself, because the door wasn't there.
You knew it was a long shot, but you still wanted to hold out hope for something, anything, that meant you didn't have to walk that already thin line between being good and going bad.
So, you headed back towards the common room, but before you could, you heard two people arguing.
As quietly as you could, you crept towards them.
"Why are you being so stubborn? They're children."
You peeked around the corner seeing Godric and Salazar. They obviously weren't wanting to be overheard.聽
"Let's be honest here, we both know there's something about them that sets them apart from the rest."
Godric glared at him. "Leave them alone."
Salazar chuckled, his body language shifting to a lighter one. "I'm the only one who can teach the girl how to master her magic-"
"Master it? Don't pretend you actually care. You just want to see what she can do. See how powerful she is. Why? She's a child Salazar, don't push your expectations into her."
"The magic we have is most likely passed down from parent to child, Godric. Do you get what I'm saying?"
They glared at each other. "She's not your daughter."
Salazar chuckled, waving his hands around extravagantly. "It's believable, and all I have to do is get her to think she is."
"That's not going to happen. You can't keep getting away with this-"
Salazar snickered as if baiting him. "Getting away with- Godric, the whole school knows you're not strong enough to duel me, even together with Helga and Rowena. You can't stop me."
Salazar started to head towards you, making you wish you were in your animagus form. As you moved to cast the disillusionment charm, someone grabbed you from behind with a hand clamping over your mouth.
They pulled you further into the dark corner, putting their back to the hall.
"The hall is too quiet, they'll hear it if you cast a spell," Ominis whispered beside your ear.
You almost collapsed against him out of relief.
"I don't care how I do it Salazar, but I will find a way to stop you from corrupting that innocent child."
"No one is innocent Godric and she's hardly a child anymore. I will get what I want or I'll just take the magic for myself."
Ominis tensed as Salazar moved right beside the both of you, twisting himself to put his back to his ancestor.
He stopped as your heart started racing. "Godric, we've been friends for a long time, when have you ever known me to give up just because something's challenging?"
"This is different. This is someone else's life. Their future."
He huffed. "And yet, I keep making a point for us to accept only the purest wizards and witches into our school and you keep inviting those filthy half breeds."
Salazar walked off with that, getting Godric to sigh. "Closed minded fool."
Ominis let off your mouth when Godric's shoes faded. As you looked back, you saw his hood drawn over his head. It must have been why Salazar didn't see you in the dark corner.
"What are you doing out here?"
He dropped his hood. "You've been gone for hours, all three of us went looking. Where were you?"
Both of you began down the path towards the common room.
"Searching, in vain, for a repository," you admitted, prying a sigh from him. "I know, I just- I don't know what to do Ominis."
"It's not fair to drop all of this on you, but please don't do anything dangerous without talking to us first. You're part of a group now. We're in this together."
It didn't feel like you were, it certainly felt like you were alone to find the way back home. To figure out how to master your magic. To be swallowed up by the darkness alone.
"Yes, I know, but it's not that easy either."
"Why? Because Salazar's after you?"
Shaking your head, you decided not to hash it. "It's nothing, maybe I'm just over thinking it."
Catching onto the way your voice wavered, his head turned towards you. "Do you believe that or is that just something to say so I'd leave it alone?"
Not replying, his brows pinched, but he didn't press the topic.

Chapter 2
Piece of the Board
聽 聽 聽 聽You were happy the last dormitory could fit the four of you and no one else.
You paced the room after casting Muffliato so no one could listen in, if they'd try.
"Salazar is worse than I ever expected," Ominis mentioned from the edge of his bed.
"He knows about the ancient magic and actively using it? How is no one stopping it?" Anne asked, running a hand over her hair.
"This is probably the first or second year open? Salazar has ancient magic, they probably don't and to top it off, those curses aren't unforgivable right now."
"Under no circumstances can they find out you were raised by muggles," Ominis said, drawing everyone's attention.
"Yes, because that was at the top of our to do list," Sebastian remarked sarcastically. "And I officially don't like your ancestor."
"That's rich coming from the one who wanted to find his scriptorium."
"Stop," you and Anne said at the same time, but you let her continue. "We're all on edge from these turn of events but we can, quite literally, only trust each other."
"Yeah, way to go with the convincing lie," Sebastian added.
"Did you forget who you're talking to? I'm practically the queen of lying."
Ominis smirked. "Inventor, more like."
You looked his way and chuckled. "Hey, I'm pretty sure it saved our lives."
You sat beside him on the edge of the bed, instantly seeing his tension ease.
"Come on, we should get some sleep. We definitely don't want to be late if Salazar's in a bad mood," Anne said already heading to climb into hers.
Ominis made no attempt to move, drawing your attention.
"Are you okay?"
He shook his head. "He killed her without a moment's hesitation. Aunt Noctua was wrong. There's nothing good about Salazar and now we're stuck here with no way to return."
He moved to lean against you as you wrapped your arms around him. "We'll make it through this."
His head pressed into yours. "I know. Just be careful. More than you were last year."
You couldn't help but chuckle, though you knew he wasn't joking.
"I promise I'll try."
Knowing that's as good as he'll get, he closed his eyes.
聽 聽 聽 聽The next day wasn't as shocking as the night before had been, you were learning very basic spells you had learned a long time ago, which gave you four the freedom of not studying after class. It did make the classes boring and more times than you could count, Ominis fell asleep and eventually ended up using your shoulder as his pillow a few times.
Godric was a good teacher, sort of reminding you of Fig and Weasley.
He was genuine and excited to tell new kids about magic and how to control it.
"Why are those Slytherins glaring?" Anne whispered, leaning close.
"Salazar is interested in our group and we showed up randomly after everyone else," Sebastian replied, as his eyes drifted to you. "Also given our own little miss ancient magic user, we're the talk of the school."
You shot him a glare.
"You're not the talk of the school," Anne jumped in, instantly wiping her brother's smirk away. "She is."
"Can we not talk about this?"
"I second that. All we're doing is making it easy for more people to find out," Ominis said softly when Godric drew close.
"Tell me, since you're in a discussion in my classroom, what spell do you use to levitate objects?"
Of course all of you knew the answer, but you kept quiet knowing that it would be better if they thought you were just trouble makers than from the future.
Godric nodded, his hands clasping behind his back. "Then perhaps it's better if you pay attention? We're not here to hear ourselves talk. We're here to teach."
You heard a few snickers from behind you, but nodded as his eyes passed over the four of you before he headed back to the front of the class.
You decided to keep quiet, falling back into the mind numbing madness of boredom.
It wasn't until the end of the class that Godric looked back at your group.
"You four, please stay. I wish to talk to you."
The four of you side glanced at each other as the other students left the room.
He gave a calm smile while he walked over. "You're not in trouble, but I do have a few things to ask about your time here and your...weird clothes."
Sebastian nearly chuckled, getting shoved by Anne.
"I don't think you've been quite honest about why you're here, were you?"
None of us moved to speak, Godric smiling as if he caught your lie.
"Why don't you explain it? You did come up with the convenient lie last night."
The twins looked at you, but you kept your features from shifting.
"Sir, I have nothing to say."
Godric eyed you, before giving a small chuckle. "You're guarded, that's understandable," he said sat down in the chair beside him. "You've earned Salazar's attention. This is very dangerous, especially to you."
You crossed your arms. "If you know what Salazar's doing, why let him keep going with it? I think that girl's parents sent her here to learn, not be killed."
He was silent for a moment, verbal chess takes a lot of work and thought.
"You're in the wrong house if you disagree with him."
"You're in the wrong line of work if you don't stop him."
He smirked, eyes twinkling like he enjoyed your fight. "Salazar won't let you or your blind friend go, but I can get these two out into my house. It'll keep them safe-"
"No." Sebastian snapped, closely followed by Anne.
"It might be better that way-"
"Ominis, no. We're in this together," Anne replied, getting Godric to raise a brow.
"In what together exactly?"
Glancing at the twins who clocked gazes of their own.
"Nothing," you said quickly, shooting a glare towards the them.
"So, are you the leader of your group?"
"There is no leader," you ended up snapping, getting him to smile.
"Then why try to silence them?"
It felt like he was purposely baiting you, so you just stared unflinchingly in his eyes.
He sighed before looking towards Anne and Sebastian. "Do what together?"
They looked over, but you kept your eyes on Godric, studying his body language to assess his notices for wanting to know.
"Can we talk? Alone." Anne asked softly.
He nodded politely and headed into his office after locking eyes.
"Maybe telling him would be of our benefit," Anne continued.
"Godric and Salazar are best friends until Salazar's pureblood views get crazy. That's what our history books say, but what we saw last night proves he's already around the bend. Who's to say that Godric won't tell him everything once we're out of the room?"
"She does make a good point," Ominis agreed.
"We don't know how to navigate this point in time and having one of the founders in our side, might help us."
"Sebastian, you're assuming he'll be on our side," you replied glancing towards his office door. "Besides that, you're not the one who will suffer the most if you're wrong, Ominis and I will."
"I know that, I'm just trying to help and you two are slow to trust-"
"For good reason," Ominis cut over.
"Well, you heard his voice, do you think he's going to betray us? Or did he seem to genuinely want to help?"
"I heard curiosity, concern, but nothing that suggested he wanted to help."
Sebastian fell silent, his eyes drifting down to the table in front of him, but Anne leaned closer.
"We know more spells than they do, right? We can erase their memories-"
"We know more advanced magic, but all of it is still bound to the same basic principle," you replied, frustration seeping into your voice. "There is absolutely no reason to tell anyone here about this. Especially not with the unforgivable curses going around like butterbeer. We can't trust anyone but ourselves. Do I need to remind you of Solomon, the Gaunts or my father?"
"No, but then we'd have to accept that we're here on our own and that's frightening," Anne admitted, her eyes dancing around the room as if someone would jump out and scare her.聽
"We are here on our own," you clarified trying to be gentle. "Godric's help doesn't mean we're magically safe from danger. It just opens the road to get hurt. We're not going to be here forever."聽
"I know, I just feel weird not having an adult around. Someone who can help when things get tough," she whispered, just before Godric exited his office.聽
He took one look at your group and gave a nod with a small smile. "I will not ask, but when you're ready to talk to someone, I'm here."聽
The four of you stood up and gathered your belongings, to head to lunch.聽
聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 "Not so popular with all the teachers, huh?"聽
You ignored the jabs, just focusing on eating, which seemed to irritate the guy even more.聽
"What? Did you think you were something special?"聽
"Do you? Is that why your mouth never closes?" Sebastian shot back, getting the boy's attention.聽
"What? Protective of your friend? Or is she more than that?" He gave a scoff when Sebastian merely glared. "You would settle for something like her."聽
"Leave them alone," Ominis jumped in, getting the guy to smile, making you realize that he was just looking to annoy your group.聽
"Ah, the parseltongue. The other favorite. I'm not sure why Salazar is interested in the both of you. You're nothing. Just dumb students who showed up late and figured you could take over."聽
"Story of my life," you teased, grabbing your friends' attention. "Arriving late and it turning into a debacle. I guess this time the first years didn't take it with a grain of salt."聽
"Who are you calling a first year?" He scoffed, standing up and pointing his wand at the side of your head.聽
The whole room looked over as Anne, Sebastian and Ominis returned the favor. "Put your wand down."
"Listen to the boy." The room instantly went back to eating, except for the five of you, as Salazar walked closer, his eyes on the boy's face. "Jealousy is pointless Edward. Maybe I need to reiterate my meaning?"聽
Fear passed over his face as it drastically paled. "No-"
Salazar glared now, making the boy swallow and move to head out of the room, while Salazar's eyes turned to your group as they sat down. His face twisted into an almost too sweet smile. "I will take care of Edward," his eyes flicked over the table, cruelty flashing in them, "and anyone else who decides to attack...their housemates, unprovoked."聽
You had the feeling he was going to say "purebloods" but changed it when the rest of the founders had walked in.聽
Salazar turned to lead, flaring his cloak out as he walked.聽You couldn't help but wonder if the whole thing was staged to try winning your group over. Either way, it meant that he would do almost anything to get his way.聽

Chapter One
Not Over Yet
聽 聽 聽 A soft laugh blew air over your ear as you gave a stretch of your paws. "I do like spending days like this," Ominis whispered, nudging against your head. "Me too," you admitted with sleep settling over your mind again. You had chosen an area not far from the castle, but secluded so no one would see a house cat lounging with a leopard. Though you both took the forms of cats, they were vastly different. "It's nice not having worries or years worth of homework to do." He chuckled. "I can imagine." You peaked out from under your lids, seeing him smelling the air as he tensed. "Sebastian's prowling again?" "He's nearby, but I think he's learned his lesson about scaring you while you sleep." You huffed as you moved your head to lay across his paw. "It's his own fault." "Was not. You shouldn't have clawed me that deeply!" His voice drifted your way, getting you to look over seeing the silver fox just before he was tackled by the red one. "You shouldn't have said anything," Anne teased, bouncing away from her brother and sat down next to Natty. "You lose. You owe us a butterbeer." "That's not fair, I was defending myself!" Sebastian looked towards you. "You're helping me buy them." "No, I'm not. I just wanted to relax in the sun. You wanted to play hunter/prey." Poppy raced over, breathing heavily. "Professor Fig," she started almost wheezing, but she said enough. You climbed up to your feet and shifted, getting her to sigh. "Is he hurt?" She shook her head as the Sallow twins, Natty and Ominis shifted. "He needs to talk to you." You didn't wait for more information, before you raced off towards the school, your friends trailing behind you. Your time as animals had given you opportunity to explore the area well and an agility to avoid tripping over vines and branches. Too many things could have gone wrong. The repository, your father, Ominis's parents. It was better to get the information quickly. Fig was waiting at the castle gates with an official looking man and Sharp. "Ah, here she is." You slowed to a walk, noticing their eyes turn to you. "What's this about?" The man you didn't know, clocked your friends, before speaking. "May we speak in private?" "Uh?" Fig gave you a smile, motioning for you to follow. "We can use my office." Sharp stopped your friends from following, which made you look back worriedly, seeing them mirroring it.
聽 聽 聽 For added security, the man you didn't know placed a spell on the room to prevent people from listening in. "Am I in trouble?" Fig shook his head, a small smile showing on his face. "This man is Richard Jordon, an auror," Sharp mentioned. The man taking it as his que to begin, he took a step towards you. "We're having a problem with a Hamlet, I'm sure you're familiar with, Feldcroft. Specifically in Rookwood castle." Confused, you glanced to Fig. "What does this have to do with me?" "We can't see the cause of the destruction, but I know you can see things others can't. We think you might be able to help us." "Destruction?" "Rookwood castle had been destroyed and sucked up completely. It's eating its way towards the town." Your eyes bugged. "I can definitely see how that's a problem." "I need you to go to that town and stop it if you can. It's protected by aurors right now and they have been able to slow it enough for us to evacuate the towns people." "When do you think it's best to leave?" "As soon as possible. So please, get ready quickly." "I'd like to go with her," Fig said quickly as you headed towards the door. "Very well." When you opened it, you saw three figures outside, hidden by the disillusionment charm. You hurriedly shut the door. "Such nosey friends I have," you teased as you headed down the stairs. "Are you in trouble?" Ominis asked, breaking his spell. "No, there's just an issue in one of the Hamlet's the aurors think I can help with," you answered quickly leading them from the room. "So, they came here to request your help?" Sebastian asked, earning a sharp shushing. "What? This has to be huge. What's really going on?" "I'm going to talk to the keepers. They may have more insight."
聽 聽 聽 聽They followed you down. Anne, who hadn't been down in the map chamber, looked around in awe. "I was wondering when we'd see you. Charles told us about the destruction of his castle." "What?!" Sebastian asked stepping closer to see your face. "Sebastian, please. I'm trying to find this out too. I will explain everything." His heckles soothed so you looked to the keepers. "Can our magic go unstable after long periods?" "Not as far as we know, but the magic at Rookwood castle had been tampered with by Ranrock. There's no way of knowing if he missed one and broke it's container," Percival answered. "If it is, I can't imagine the devastation it'll cause." "According to the auror, it's taken Rookwood castle and slowly heading towards Feldcroft," you said, with Sebastian trying to step forward again, but was held back by Anne. "They're taking me there once I'm ready." "What?" Ominis took your other side, his brows pinched. "It's too dangerous." "If I don't go, it'll take out Feldcroft. The aurors are slowing it and have evacuated the town." He made a small noise to let you know he didn't like this idea, but didn't press it. "It does seem ancient magic is the probable cause of the disruption, but we won't know for sure until you visit and tell us," Bakar replied, getting you to sigh and nod. "You're not going alone!" Ominis said, quickly catching your wrist. "This could be a trap as much as it could be ancient magic." "Ominis-" "You already told us where to go. We will go there and wait for you to show up. There's a floo network right outside," Sebastian said as Anne nodded. Grumbling, you nodded. "Fine, meet us in Feldcroft and don't let anyone see or hear you." Ominis squeezed your wrist, before following the twins out of the chamber. "Let's hope none of us get hurt." "Your friends are capable," Nimah replied, smiling at their retreating backs. "Besides, they could be what saves your life in the end. It's best to let these things run their course." You huffed as you turned to leave. "Good luck!" They called after you.
聽 聽 聽 聽Richard apperated you and Fig to Feldcroft, seeing a large dome of magic being held by many different aurors, but what was worse was the angry swirl of magic violently thrashing just inside it. "By your expression, I'm guessing they were on point?" Fig asked, grabbing Richard's attention. "Oh, yeah. It's not as bad as Isadora's, but its still substantial." You nearly jumped when you felt a hand slip into yours. "Let's go, but out of safety for the Hamlet, we can only keep the barrier open for a few seconds," Richard said as he led the way towards the large dome. "Do you want me to go with you?" Fig asked, glancing at you. "No. No one should follow me in. There's no guarantee it wouldn't hurt someone who did." Fig nodded, but the hold on your hand tightened, silently defiant. You moved closer, feeling the hand let go. "Alright, ready?" You nodded, taking a deep breath as Richard pointed his wand at the barrier, creating a hole large enough for you to fit through. You moved in, your hair immediately swirling due to the wind the magic was making. You looked back as the barrier closed, Fig's worry made you smile sadly. "I'll be okay." He gave a nod and smiled the best he could as you turned and began towards the crater. You slid down the side, trying to be careful, but you hit into something soft and warm. "Are you okay?" Ominis asked, the disillusionment charm falling, quickly followed by Sebastian and Anne's. "What are you doing in here? Didn't you hear what I said-" "Given what happened last time, I wasn't going to let you come in here alone," Ominis clarified, helping steady you when you slipped on rubble. "And we're just nosey," Sebastian teased, but the smile fell when he saw how terrified you were. "You're turning into a teacher. We can defend ourselves." "I wasn't-" "You came in here thinking you weren't going to survive this, didn't you?" Anne asked, getting both boys to look in your direction. "What?" Ominis asked softly, his voice trembling. "Did you-" "No, not die. But, you can't see the magic that's swirling around our heads. It's strong." Sebastian nodded. "Which is why having back up is important. We can protect you while you do your thing." You couldn't exactly expect the aurors to let them out, it would be devastating. "Fine, but just keep protego at the ready. Please?" Keeping a hold on your hand, Ominis followed you, ready to protect you if needed as the twins trailed behind. You found the mass of magic by a broken repository. With Ominis beside you, Anne on the other and Sebastian at your back, you began to force it back into a cage. The strain making Ominis's hand tighten. The moment you had it enclosing, it exploded, shooting hot air your group, which Anne and Ominis instantly protego-ed. The air became thick, almost painful to breath as Ominis tried to cover your body with his as much as he could. Dust and smoke obscured anything outside the shields. Finally, when everything settled, you saw the repository was gone, but you were in the side of a cave. "Uh? What happened?" Sebastian asked, looking back at you. You shrugged. "This hasn't happened before." "Well, it could have caused it when you sealed the magic. But, let's go tell everyone the good news," Anne said, glancing around. You wanted to point out the magic was gone, but decided to just follow the group out of the cave, seeing no aurors, no Fig and no Hamlet, just a large empty field. "The air smells different," Ominis whispered as he held up his wand. "We don't know either," you admitted once you seen fear replace shock.
聽 聽 聽 聽Everything had changed, none of the villages were there anymore as you walked towards Hogwarts. "I've got a bad feeling," Ominis said as you noticed the Quidditch pitch was gone. "You're not the only one," you whispered as you pushed open the door to Hogwarts, seeing it deserted. "Okay?" Sebastian said, drawing the word out. "Where is...everything?" You continued towards the great hall, Ominis freezing for a second. "What's wrong?" "I hear voices, but none I recognize." Taking a deep breath, you pulled the door open, the noise drawing everyone's eyes to your group. Your eyes saw four figures where you've only seen in pictures. "Good lord," you whispered, instinctively taking a step back. "What?" Ominis asked. "We're about to meet Godric, Helga, Rowena and Salazar," you answered softly, as they headed towards you, getting Ominis to tense as you moved back from the door.聽
聽 聽 聽 聽The four of you stood in front of the four of them. They were watching you closely, taking in your clothes and the snake patches on your robes that were similar to the green on Salazar's. "From a different school?" Godric asked. You nodded, grateful to Natty for telling you so much about her school and hoped they wouldn't question the lie. "From Uganda. Our parents were from here originally and had us out there due to no school. When they heard this one was starting, they transferred us." Salazar looked at each of his companions. "And you just happened to be dressed in robes we haven't given out yet and don't recognize?" "These are the kind of clothes in聽Uganda. They told us about the patches, they picked the ones they thought we'd be in." "We'll be the judges of that," Salazar replied standing up. "First, I want to know your family status." As if rehearsed, Godric, Helga and Rowena sighed together. "We're all purebloods," Sebastian said quickly. He started hissing, his eyes darting between all of you, his eyes landing on Ominis when he hissed back. Parseltongue, huh? I guess he would want to know that. "Very well, I'll take you in my house." He said that with such a tone that it made you shiver. "Follow me, I'll lead the way."
聽聽 聽 聽 聽 聽You knew where it was, but you were surprised when he walked into it with you. The students waiting wore older style wool robes covering their tunics. "We're way over dressed," Anne whispered as Salazar swooped over to the middle of the room. "Now, to make things clear for our new students and to know what's required of you," he said waving his hand seeing a girl stand up, her eyes glowing green. "The Imperious curse," Anne whispered, horror clearly heard, making you grateful you were too far from the other students for them to hear it. Ominis unconsciously took a step closer to you. "Tell us your name," Salazar said, his voice dripping in venom. "And your blood status." "Amara Apollo. I'm a half blood." Ominis was now pressed into your side. "In this school we only accept purebloods. Your parents will get the message," he said pressing the tip of his wand to the girl's chest, pulling a glittering mist from her. You inhaled, drawing Salazar's attention as your eyes remained glued to her magic now stuck to his wand. He pressed it to his chest, stealing it as his eyes flickered. "Avada Kadavra!" The room flashed green and the girl fell to the floor as the room cheered. Salazar looked around at all the shocked faces of the new students, his eyes landing on you after you had fixed a neutral expression. He smirked as he moved closer. "Clean up this mess." He stopped in front of your group. "You're certainly welcomed in my house. I look forward to watching you grow." He left the common room, making you let out the breath you had been holding, as everyone else moved to go to their dormitory. "Poor girl," Anne whispered once the room was empty. "Why did he say that stuff to you?" Sebastian asked. "Salazar has ancient magic. He stole her magic before killing her." "Great, supercharged psychopath."

Chapter 15
Worth it in the End
聽 聽 聽 The pulse that shot out once the repository was put in place, was enough to almost knock the wind out of you.
Hearing the shield charm go up, you glanced behind you seeing older Sebastian in front of Professor Fig, though only his head was visible.
"Uh?"
He looked down at himself quickly and gave an awkward chuckle. "Invisibility cloak."
You knew that Fig would have too many questions about how he found out where you were let alone the expensive cloak, but you didn't know the best way to answer that.聽 聽
You gave a shrug when he glanced your way. "It's a long story."
Not sure where to start from that, he settled for scolding Sebastian. "I must say this is the most dangerous thing you've done Mr. Sallow."
The look that crossed his face made Fig pause, noticing a subtle difference from his fifteen year old student, to the older boy in front of him.
You knew it was far from the most dangerous thing and Fig seemed to deduce the same.聽
"We should head back and see how the other teachers are fairing. That was a lot of goblins we passed."
Nodding, Sebastian pulled the hood back over his head and vanished.
"O-okay, I guess he's going to follow?"
You felt a slight push as you headed after Fig, followed by a soft chuckle.
聽 聽 On the way back, you felt something was off and when you met where the repository originally was, you knew why.
Minister Spavin stood looking at you two, eyes dark and angry.
Did he escape or was he let go?
"I knew you were going to be trouble," he said hitting Fig with flipendo before any of you could react.
He landed hard on the ground, almost rolling over the edge if it wasn't for one of the thin supports stopping him, you nearly ran towards Fig, but froze at the next thing you heard.聽
"Avada Kadavra!"
Green filled your vision, but you were hit aside, falling to the ground before something fell over your legs.聽
Shaking your head to clear the cloud that fell over your mind, you sat up seeing Sebastian's lifeless expression once the hood fell off his head.
"No, Sebastian!"
"Don't worry, you're about to join him-"
Your wand was in your pocket where Sebastian's body was currently laying, so all you could do was watch and wait.
"Depulso!" A man said from behind Spavin, sending him up and over your head.
After a bit of a struggle, you carefully laid Sebastian down, trying to be as careful as possible. In a flash of gold, he vanished.
Panicked, you felt around for his body, but he was completely gone.聽
Trying to avoid breaking down, you moved to Fig, who was breathing heavily.
Pulling a wiggenweld potion from your bag, you shoved it into his hands, not wanting to lose him too.
The sound of battle drew your eyes towards the two men, who seemed to be evenly matched. You still raised your wand towards them just in case. The guy seemed to have a bone to pick with Spavin, but you weren't going to bet Fig's or your life on it.聽
Fig's breathing calmed as he downed the potion, a relaxed expression quickly stealing away the pain, making your nerves settle a little.聽
His eyes met yours, the pain and panic reminded him of a moment ago and he lifted his wand towards Spavin.
"Confringo!" Fig said softly, blasting hot air over your skin.
He hit the Minister in the side, making him stumble off the edge, before the other man caught him with accio and stuck him in a leg locker curse.
"Death is too easy. It's time for you to be brought to justice Spavin," he growled, before looking over his shoulder at you and Fig. "Let's go."
聽 聽 聽 You were allowed to leave to head to your common room after everyone was given the news of what happened and Black was forced to side with you to keep his reputation from crumbling.
You were still disappointed you couldn't find Sebastian's body to give him a proper burial.
"He'll be taken care of," the man you found out was named Felix, said moving closer, having followed you out of the headmaster's office without you realizing it. "I'll see to it."
"But his body's gone-"
"Not in this time line. In the event of his death, to keep time, he was returned to his original one. Just as I will return to it."
Knowing this man's story thanks to Sebastian telling you, it was a little bit of a shock to find out that he followed him.聽 聽
"But doesn't that mean you're still in Azkaban here?"
He smiled. "Yes, but that was the point. There couldn't be a prison break in this time for him to be released properly, without a giant battle taking his daughter's life."
"Now, you have to live it," you whispered, letting your eyes drop.
He couldn't help smiling at your concern. "No, once I return, that time line will erase completely and this one will replace it. Sebastian never goes to Azkaban. I'm freed. And none of you die. It was worth all the time I spent in Azkaban for an ending like this."
His eyes drifted over your head as he smiled. "I did take one liberty though. Once older Sebastian died, the younger one was given his memories." He motioned over your head, so you looked seeing Sebastian behind you, breathing heavily as if he ran the whole way. "Go on. I'll see you in this life."
He gave you a slight push, but you quickly hugged him.
"Thank you Felix."
He laughed in your ear. "You're welcome."
Tears lingered in his eyes as you pulled away and turned towards Sebastian, running to close the distance, half crashing into him as you hugged him.
"You're safe," he whispered softly, his arms tightening as he hugged you back. "All of us are safe."
聽 聽 聽 聽With the end of term, you, the Sallow twins and Ominis all moved into your house in Upper Hogsfield. You could see a familiarity in Sebastian as you moved in, he just kept chuckling as he glanced around even moving like he knew the place.聽
Anne even started dating Ominis shortly into the summer. You and Sebastian weren't far behind as you grew accustomed to living with roommates. Ominis was the hardest, being he was terrible with messes and both you and Sebastian always made them.
Felix came over every once in a while, not wanting to put too much pressure on butting into your life, but he did move close just in case anything happened. People were less than polite to him, but slowly grew accustomed to the idea that he wasn't going to attack them when he came around.聽
He and Sebastian seemed to have a strange understanding with each other and when you'd inquire, he'd just smile sadly and shake his head.
Sebastian, when bringing up the curses, would say that life was behind him and he learned from his mistakes.
All of you were happy to hear it and didn't press it further.
The only worries any of you had was what the next year had in store, though you hoped it wasn't as eventful as the last.

Chapter 14
No Secrets From You
聽 聽 Anne's cure was in its final stage. Though Sebastian had to spill the beans to Ominis on who he really was and why he was being so hard on his younger self, when they got into an argument over it.
Even going so far as to "find" the younger Sebastian as he tried to break into the restricted section, claiming he was still going to look until Anne was actually cured.
So, they took to alerting Scribner, even Peeves. If his younger self was in detention, he wasn't up to no good.
Scribner couldn't threaten to tell his uncle, because Solomon had been arrested and thrown in Azkaban, just before the newspapers read about the fall certain individuals in the Ministry.
Sebastian, then turned his attention onto you. Trying to get you and his younger self to be friends was easier than he expected, ensuring he didn't drag you into his shenanigans, wasn't.
Though he hadn't started trying to manipulate you, for which older Sebastian was grateful.
聽 聽 The five of you stood in the undercroft as Sebastian finished the potion and bottled it, before passing it over to Anne.
"You're sure this is going to work?" His younger self asked.
"The person who found it, would never gamble with someone's life." His eyes flicked to you for a second, but he made sure to look away before you caught him.聽
Anne looked down at the bottle, before meeting the younger Sebastian's gaze. "I will only take this, if you promise me you will not use the forbidden curses or dark magic and stop going into the restricted section."
Shock spread through the group as all eyes moved to the younger Sebastian.
He scoffed, but nodded after a moment. "Fine, I promise."
One thing Sebastian was grateful for was that he was a man of his word. A world full of weight lifted off his shoulders as he caught Anne's eye, seeing a slight smirk there.
She pulled the topper off and swallowed the glittering blue liquid which was followed by cough聽from the taste, but everyone watched as her eyes became less dull and the dark circles almost vanished.
"How do you feel?"
Older Sebastian took notice that your eyes were on something in the middle of everyone, watching in awe, before everyone felt a pulse of magic and Anne's demeanor became as if she was never cursed.
"Whoa that's weird," Anne teased as she looked at the younger Sebastian. "I feel a lot better."
"You look a lot better." Ominis replied as younger Sebastian hugged her tightly.
"Let's go see nurse Blainey and get it confirmed."
He was already dragging her off, getting a few chuckles.
It was one more think he could check off the list. His eyes drifted over to you, who looked in the cauldron.
"What?"
You looked at him, confused on how to put what you had seen. "What kind of potion did you use? I've never seen one cleanse a cure like that before."
He smiled. "A very old, but powerful one. A friend of mine found it."聽聽
Your expression turned half suspicious and half impressed. "Some friend."
He smiled as your eyes moved back to the potion, before you moved to leave the room.
"She was."
"Maybe you should tell her," Ominis whispered as the gate opened.
Sebastian shook his head, not noticing the longing he was shooting at your back. "They need to find their feelings for themselves. Otherwise it would feel like another manipulative tactic and you were right. She deserved better than that. You both did."
"You're making up for it now, aren't you? Isn't this roughly the time you'd started manipulating her into helping? Now there's nothing to do that for."
"If only we can keep me from screwing it up," he replied, laughing at his younger self's determination to get in trouble.
"Good luck with that."
聽 聽 聽 It wasn't as difficult as they suspect, younger Sebastian's rebellious side simmered out now that Anne was healthy. He didn't even attempt the restricted section, but now his focus was on finding out what you and Fig were up to.
He was helping where he could and was easily frustrated when you'd floo network to your location and he wouldn't know where you had gone.
Anne teased him relentlessly for his obvious crush as older Sebastian watched, trying to hold in his own jealousy. It was ridiculous, but he couldn't help himself.
Watching your friendship bloom further than his had, was hard, seeing you fall in love with him, was worse.
"Why do you stay if its painful to watch?" Ominis asked while younger Sebastian followed after you on another secret mission to find the third tryptic.
"There's one last thing I want to change. Something that hurt her deeply and since I can stop it, I will."
"You really do love her, don't you?" Anne whispered, her eyes easily catching onto the way her brother's filled with sorrow.
"Enough to watch as she falls for him, yes."
"He's you," Ominis remarked, leaning back against the sofa.
They watched as Sebastian's face crumbled into sadness.聽"No, he's the man I wish I could have been."
"You helped him become that guy," Anne said softly, giving her brother a smile.
"I don't think that's true," Ominis admitted, drawing their gaze. "Sebastian, you always had that chance, you just didn't take it because you were too busy trying to be an older brother. You took things too far, yes, but our Sebastian is proof that with the right circumstances, you can change to be better. If you care enough about the people you're fighting for and yourself."
"You took that a little too literally, maybe," Anne teased, pulling a chuckle from both boys.
Sebastian sighed, his eyes moving to the stairs. "She's worth it."
"Then perhaps you should tell her the truth now that you know she cares for you too. She does have the right to know and it would be better if it came from you."
Sebastian grumbled, not looking forward to it. "I suppose you're right, but I can't help it if it makes me nervous."
聽 聽聽
聽 聽 聽 You walked into the undercroft, the note asked you to meet Sebastian, who was pacing the floor. Though, you couldn't help but notice there was something different about him. He looked and acted older, more careful or calculative.
"Sebastian?"
He looked your way, trying not to grimace at how concerned your tone was.
"It's me, I'm not polyjuiced or an imposter." He bit back saying "this time".
Nodding, you took a slight step forward. "Okay, then what's this about?"
"There is something I need to tell you, something that might change the way you see me, but Anne and Ominis are right, you should know and hear it from me." He motioned towards the floor. "You might want to sit down, this is quite the story."
Taking his advice, you sat with your back against the pillar, he began the long tale.
Once he finished, you couldn't help but feel frustrated, not at him, but everything.
"Wow, that's just- wow."
"I know it's a lot to take in, especially given what you're doing for the keepers, but I want to be your friend again. No more lies or secrets."
You blinked, making him look down expecting rejection. "Weren't we already friends? I mean even if you're not really "David" you haven't changed. Though, we do have to keep this from young Sebastian, don't we?"
Panic set over his features at the thought of what could happen if he found out the truth.
"Preferably, I don't know how he'd react and it's bad enough you, Anne, Ominis and Felix know."
You nodded. "Fair enough. I will keep it a secret until it's okay to tell him."
He rubbed at his hands together, while his eyes drifted towards them.
"Say it," you encouraged, getting a small laugh.
"Am I that easy to read?"
"More so than your younger version."
He hummed in thought but fell silent for a long moment. "I just never got the chance to say goodbye. To either of you. I didn't even apologize. You two died trusting me and I got you killed. I got everyone killed. It wasn't that I couldn't see what I was doing, I didn't want to."
You stood up when he half curled into himself and walked over to him. When you got close, he sharply stood up with a shake off his head, his hands resting on your shoulders.
"I will fix this, the right way this time. I promise."
Perplexed by the sudden action, you watched as he headed towards the door.
"Do you think that maybe your habit of trying to save everyone might be why you ended up in this mess?"
He looked back with a grin. "Pot to kettle, my dear. Aren't you feeling pressure from what the keepers are asking you? Protecting the entire wizarding world alone?"
A laugh slipped as you nodded. "Fair point Sebastian, but I'm not really alone. I have Fig helping me and the four of you have been very supportive, even if your younger self gets irritated he loses sight of me when he's trying his best to follow."
"You know about that?"
Chuckling, you gave a playful shrug. "Yeah, you're a sneaky guy when you want to be, but when you're in a hurry, you make a lot of mistakes."
He scoffed softly. "Story of my life."
"You're going to be okay."
He gave a smile, though worry was still etched into his features. "I hope so."

Chapter 13
Changing Things
聽 聽 Quickly finding out he couldn't go back to save his parents, he managed to go back to the start of the fifth year.
He was carefully moving through the forest, but stopped short seeing you and Fig heading towards the castle.
He had to stop himself from racing over to hug both of you.
Quickly, he moved to the nearest floo network and went to Feldcroft.
Knowing his uncle's habits, he waited for him to leave to go to the market, before walking into the house.
Anne nearly grabbed for her wand before she recognized him.
"S-Sebastian? Why do you look different?"
"Probably because I'm a year older," he teased, getting her mouth to drop when he showed the time turner.
"Those are illegal!"
He sighed as he stowed it back under his shirt. "We don't have much time before Solomon gets back. I'm here to ask you something and grab something else."
"Okay?"
"First I need to grab dear old uncle's journal," he said already moving to swipe it from the secret compartment. "Then, after I've brewed the cure for you, I'd like you to meet me in town in about a month. It's going to take a while to brew."
"You actually found a cure and came back in time to do this?"
"A friend of mine found it," he said, his eyes emptying enough that Anne swallowed hard. "You died before she found it."
"She was more than just a friend to you, wasn't she?" He nodded, his head hanging low hoping it would hide the pain in his face. "Then why come back here?"
"Her and Ominis died too."
Anne gasped, before catching herself on the table, quickly sitting down with Sebastian's help.
"How?"
"I didn't listen to them when they warned me not to use dark magic. I thought it would help, but all it did was steal everyone from me. I want to ensure the younger me doesn't follow the same path. I can cure you know and maybe we'll be worthy of her."
"What happened? Tell me everything."
Staring at determination that had mirrored his own, he explained everything, even letting her read Solomon's journal as proof.
At first she just sat there, but soon she shook her head and met his eyes.
"I'm going to Hogwarts."
"What?"
She stood and moved to grab some of her belongings. "If Solomon finds out about this, he'll try to kill us. The best place for me to be is at Hogwarts with the younger you. At the very least, I could try helping him stay out of the restricted section. It's time we work together, right? And maybe we can save this girl you're in a twist about."
He chuckled and shook his head. "You just want to meet her, don't you?"
"It is an added bonus."
Grateful she didn't think too harshly on him and was even willing to help, he accepted, being she wasn't going to back down.
"Okay, then I just need to find someone to steal the hair from," he said pulling out the vial of polyjuice potion that was ready to be infused with it. "Then, I'll need to brew more."
She nodded. "Let's hurry before he comes back."
聽 聽 聽 Having stolen some hair from an unsuspecting student named David Dryer, a Slytherin fifth year that Sebastian never even remembered being in the same class, he'd still have to be careful though. His younger self was no fool.聽
Speaking of him, he was surprised to see Anne move into the Slytherin common room, and though she spared a lot of the details. She did tell him "David" knew of a cure.
Once he found out about Solomon, he wanted to go duel him, which everyone expected.
"Sit down," Older Sebastian snapped.
The younger one shot him a glare. "What are you? My dad?"
"What good will it do to go try to kill him? Get yourself sent to Azkaban too? You WILL lose everything."
Ominis cocked his head, but didn't say anything.
"Don't you have a potion to brew?"
Anne smacked her brother, getting him to scowl. "He's trying to help us both. Stop being rude."
"I have to go collect some stuff. I'll be back later."
Younger Sebastian moved to stop him, but Anne intervened quickly.
聽聽 Putting the cloak on before slipping into the Ministry, Sebastian couldn't help but feel worried about whether he'd get to the safe easily or not.
His hopes were dashed when someone grabbed him by the arm, making him look over seeing a random man.
He pulled him into an empty room before yanking off the invisibility cloak.
"Some nerve you have coming in here without knowing the password to the safe, Mr. Sallow."
Confused Sebastian backed up.
"Relax, you won't be able to tell right now, but I'm Felix Williams."
Blinking slowly, Sebastian managed to speak through a dry mouth. "Aren't you in Azkaban?"
He chuckled. "No, I've been an animagus since I was in school. I can leave if something is important."
Sebastian eyed him carefully. "So. You're not Felix from my time?"
Amused, he smiled but didn't answer the question. "I know why you're here, but let me handle the Minister, while you tend to your immensely stubborn counterpart, your sister and my daughter."
He got the stubborn part right and Sebastian hadn't really realized just how much until he was at the receiving end. "Couldn't you have done this in our time line?"
"Yes, but then who would have kept you sane enough for them to help you, otherwise you'd tried to scratch at them or threatened to curse them, which I doubt would have changed their minds about you later."
It hadn't changed their minds anyway, but he wasn't about to point that out.聽 聽
Sighing, he nodded. "And now you can take on the Minister alone?"
"Spavin always had something over me. Something I wouldn't risk, but you're fully capable to protect her, especially given how you felt about her dying in the other time line." He held out his hand. "Solomon's journal please?"
Sebastian pulled it from your bag and made to handed it over, but stopped upon seeing Felix holding out a few rare herbs needed for Anne's cure.
He wanted to ask how Felix knew he was going to come back to change everything or did he have these on hand?聽聽
"Picked this up along the way, figured you might have a better use for them."
Knowing even a little about rare plants, is that you can't just "pick them up" you have to go looking for them after a lot of research, but Sebastian figured it was best not to look a gift horse in the mouth.聽 聽
He smiled as Sebastian took them and placed the book in it's spot.
"Go back to Hogwarts and keep an eye on my daughter for me."
He tossed the invisibility cloak back over Sebastian before he left, not letting Sebastian ask any thing more about the situation.
He just hoped everything works itself out.聽
