Thinking about how cool it would’ve been if the Soc spinoff used Wylan’s knowledge of Fjerdan to expand on his friendship with Matthias, like when Matthias didn’t know the Kerch word for snow goggles in the book and he didn’t want to ask Nina he just pointed to them and said “keep your eyes covered” instead, but we could have had him turn to Wylan and say:

“Lamb. How do you say snow goggles in Kerch?”

And then Wylan would say “snow goggles” in Kerch (/English for audience purposes) and then Matthias would tell everyone to put their snow goggles on and we would see both Nina and Jesper seething right up until their eyes were covered - especially because Nina would understand what Matthias had just said.

The Crows’ Sibling Alignment

this is going to be ramble-y and probably only make half-sense but here we go.

Matthias is an eldest sibling. It’s canon, it’s obvious. He holds the weight of the world on his shoulders trying to be responsible in the group of people he’s been given.

Nina is a middle sibling with younger sibling traits. She had to fight for positive attention in the Little Palace, and learned that negative attention is still attention.

Inej is a youngest sibling. Ignoring the show, and taking a guess about Suli culture, I’d say she grew up around her cousins and they were all sort of raised together. Although she may not have any biological siblings, she was always the baby.

Kaz is a youngest sibling. No one else could have that much audacity.

Jesper is an only child with eldest sibling traits. Going from golden child to family disappointment is a pipeline 90% of eldest children have to go through. (Myself included). He puts a lot of pressure on himself, and wants to be good for his Da but he struggles.

Wylan is an only child. It’s canon, it’s obvious. But not only is he an only child, he’s a homeschooled only child.

Ok I promise that I'll shut the fuck up about the dog metaphor after this but: Kaz being Haskell's rabid dog and Jesper being Aditi's little rabbit is honestly diabolical..... what do dogs do but chase rabbits and what do rabbits do but flee dogs. Kaz is chasing an image of Jordie he's never going to be able to catch, and Jesper will never let himself be caught, because that would mean facing up to... A lot of things! and honestly he's probably worried about what the hell Kaz would do if he did catch him! so they keep running, and maintain the weird distance and impasse between them. and unless Kaz can learn to drop that persona, that's how it has to be. and honestly. what the fuck.

Wylan in tow, Jesper went to Domhnaill, who was standing at the foot of the ladder, making sure people went through the ceiling hatch in an orderly fashion. “The stadwatch said they were surrounding the building,” Jesper stated. “Maybe they're bluffing, maybe not. In any case, we don't know how many there are. And now that Wylan smoked a couple of them out, there’s even more officers on the streets around the brewery. You should send us up there right now. I have my revolvers. I can protect our people. I’m useless down here.”

Domnhaill took no more than two seconds to think about it. “Okay. You and your boy can go.”

“After you,” Jesper offered Wylan, but just as he put his foot on the first step, Jesper closed his fingers around his forearm to catch his attention. “I don't know what it’s like up there,” he warned him, “so, once we’re on the ground floor, you stay behind me at all times, understood?”

Wylan blinked at him. Jesper took that as a yes. He had to. They were running out of time.
