She likes that anyone can tell he’s crusted from running, but only Seccotine knows he’s rushing to her.

“Cigarettes are not hard to find in this town, you know? Just not as cheap.” The guy accuses her gently, but stops short. “I’ll try to come by more if I can, I’m sorry.”

— His mouth turns upward so easily, so kindly, there’s trepidation in her heart. His demeanour is a far cry from her usual conversations, so Seccotine doesn’t resist the urge to smile back at him. “I like that you believe in meaningless existence and no true love. It keeps me on my toes. Makes me learn things.”

“Hey,” she swats at his arm and it’s the closest they have ever touched.

She thinks he glows, a little, in the ivory landscape that afternoon.

— “All better now?” Her friend exhales gently, far softer than his usual tone and her fingernails grip at his sleeves, not looking back. He’s so achingly soft, so perfect. The act hurts more than this two-days wound. “Seccotine?”

“That’s not my name.” She murmurs. The pause is heavy in her throat. He’s still kneeling, a sculpture of earnesty. If this has been one of those stupid fairy tales where a girl loves a guy and bending down means asking for a lifetime together, Seccotine thinks she would break. But she shakes, and he’s still so homely, his jacket is of a maroon shade pin pricked with flower stems. “For now, just call me Sophie. Please.”

“Of course.” He smiles and she hates the way it comes so easily with him, everything, every heartbeat. “All better now, Sophie?”

— “It doesn’t work like that,” he whimpers and he’s not fucking her, but being a barrier of body between Seccotine and the images on the church’s ceilings, moonlight woven into a parade of chromatics when he’s kissing her and he’s kissing her and nobody is watching even though the whole universe can see it. “I’m not easy, So—phie. You have to at least give me back, for the cigarette packs.”

Oh, but he is.

this might come as a surprise but i’ve never thought abt how i’d write my own s&f like other s&f fans bc tbh i have no idea where to begin & what it would be abt. i only write slice of life slapstick comedy or character analysis (or making queer character studies / s&f timeline plot holes rewite for them) so the thought abt having my own album/series has never occured to me as i dont really feel the need to it (sure, i’d like to have an album where they get married and kiss and all, but that could happen in the main series, and could be written by almost anyone, really) and since i really dont know how to do big, creative world-building or craft exciting adventure stories i dont think i’m cut out to have my own album anyways. but i suddenly think abt it today… just,, just a little ramble abt what i’d turn s&f into if i ever get my hands on it LMAO

their entire shtick is that theyre reporters. that right there is a good starting point. ofc since if it was written by me it’d probably be filled w shits like revolutions against authority & dissing on capitalism & social commentary & human rights & whatnot dfjdkd not because i am that good but just because thats what im interested to read abt. but anyways. like. but like thats exactly what im thinking abt. why didnt we have s&f focusing abt,, that. surely it was sprinkled in during some of franquin’s stories, and in fournier’s run, and a few here and there and in some spirou de albums already but what if lol. what if it focuses more on journalism itself. abt them as journalists and abt the journal and abt le moutisque’s office and the magazine. i’d say the spirou/dupuis office too but i kinda dont think that office would fit into what im thinking abt bc the dupuis office focuses way more in. advertising. and promotional. and comics? all of which just feels like the opposite of what i wanted and besides they arent even reporters there anyways theyre just an editor and a mascot

okay back to my previous point i KNOW this is going to be VERY niche but hey. its a dream. from me. to me. so who cares? so instead of s&f going on wacky out-of-the-world adventures theyre journalists who’d explore the world around them and its issue. the adventure comes within. i was on my second viewing of the french dispatch & everytime i rewatch it i keep thinking abt what if the journal is like this. what if s&f was written in this format/manner. maybe if i get to write my own s&f it would be like it lol (obviously im not even a good writer to begin with i just mean thats the route i’d headed to) like. using their journalism to talk abt issues that are happening irl. i know s&f is a children comic book but we get a lot of spin-off that focuses on older audiences (supergroom for older teens with blood and dark jokes) and even a historical series (hope against all odds with teenage spirou navigating the world at war through the lenses of a child) but if i get to have my own series then. yeah. maybe it would be like the french dispatch? they’d go and meet people and through that write stories abt their lives, the same formula with s&f, but focuses more abt the humanity, of people’s complexity and relationships, with them having to struggling keeping their journalistic neutrality, trying to note everything down, trying to recognize their own voices and also finding/doubting themselves and their stances in the world, abt the world. excuse me for my terrible explanation and wording im not that good at english but like!! i just think it’d be very interesting

i know i know this is just because i’ve rewatched the french dispatch the literal love letter to journalism and my two favorite characters are literal journalists so i started to daydream nonsense and smashing them together but it could be something. i’d love to see that something. like how the french dispatch reads like a journal/magazine and in there each reporters lived through a series of event that eventually let them write stories that criticize different aspects of the world - the exploitation of craft, the brutally honest city life, the revolution for freedom etc etc etc. and also how reporters usually have to remain out of the story to maintain their journalistic integrity but we get to see the behind the scene, the events that lead to the stories being written and we get to see how the reporters were also there, experiencing it, like human, like people, like us. would be cool if we get to see s&f being written like this, to see spirou and fantasio going on adventures - not on the moon nor against weird corrupted mythological monsters this time, experiencing life as it is and learn more abt themselves and grow as people, alongside with solving conflicts and dealing with. whatever they have to deal with lmao

okay this is getting silly and rambly but dfjkdk but yeah idk. i just. yeah. yknow? it’d be cool if the moutisque - or maybe rebranding the office too so now everyones working as a newspaper/magazine/journal office that isnt abt promoting and getting sales and shit lol i’d like to see the editors, the artists, the translators, the secretaries and the writers, the journalists working together for a paper. the wacky shenanigans can be saved for whenever they want to revive gaston lagaffe because gaston works perfectly fine as is and i still love it. but i want the office/journal to play a role in s&f too, theyre journalists for gods sake. my wording is getting all over the place again and im not making any points clear so i guess i’ll stop fjfkdfffdjdk

tl/dr just me thinking abt if i were to have my own s&f series/album it’d be in the style of wes anderson’s the french dispatch. abt journalism and the world, but also more personal and focuses on spirou and fantasio as journalists and as people too

cry die hate spifan brainrot time i havent done it for a month. i wrote a lengthy brainrot beauty standards / fantasio’s inner conflict thingy and these are just the texts in the dupuy discord server when i try to explain/translate it into english. and then my friend wrote this fic for me (which is So Good please go read it) and all of us loses our mind lol </3 here goes

i think it started because mostly when i share his panels or when i draw him being bald in his 40s my followers always expressed that he was drawn ugly or that its a shame he was drawn bald with a big nose or something like as if those traits is bad and we should fix it. okay why tf did i wrote like 4 paragraphs abt this i was in my meanie era normalize hating behaviour gonna make this short

so i was talking abt how i dont like the whole beauty standards cookie cutter thingy in art and in real life? like okay i get that spirous always been designed to be the hot one its on purpose but it doesnt mean i have to make fantasio also “hot” and “pretty” according to social standards like i hate that because of this stupid standards we are called too fat too thin too tall too short and not yknow. unique in our own way

so what if fantasios ugly lol id rather be ugly on my own than to be pretty but look exactly the same. kinda like how i dont like anime designs everyone just look like everyone. what we dont like shouldnt be equal to call it ugly and need to be fixed or anything!! maybe i dont like bald but thats just an aesthetically preference and if hes bald then hes bald i dont have to make him not bald to dismiss it and to like him

idk if english has this term but in vietnamese we have the terms uh. wrong chopsticks? to call a couple who doesnt fit with each other like ones too good and ones not? i know its like that when ppl put him next to spirou its like belgians next top model and his personal clown but i kinda like them being different like that i like the contrast it makes it fun. also if we always have to fix fantasio “ugliness” its just like how the beauty industry is trying to fix us? and then we wouldnt get to fantasio’s self-conflict. since fantasio loves beauty and then he himself isnt beautiful it gives us an internalized angst. and hes more human that way. he can perfect his fashion he can sharpen up his jokes but what can he do about this body that society loves to shit on so much 

and then i quote the entire opening of lingerie et bas gris one of my fav fic ever because of the character study. its so good ik its a build-up for the whole lingerie and stocking kinks but it makes so much sense it might as well be canon if dupuis werent such a coward </3

to try and make this short i wont quote it here but sighs okay so the whole thing abt fantasio does his best to be perceived and loved, wearing expensive clothes, making jokes, all to make up for his lack of beauty - which is his biggest insecurity. he knows hes not beautiful and he did everything he could to cover it up his desperation for recognition creates a conflict and even tho he tries to hide his face at the end of the day all hes ever wanted was to have someone to look at him bare and still love him anyways

and idk if its this fic or if its the other one but theres also a part where fantasio asked spirou something along the line of you couldve picked any women you want why would you choose me and UHGHDFJKG the pain is good

its like in my friends fic where he has to silently watching spirou gets toyed around by women, knowing that they want him, knowing that he wants him too, but unlike them he couldnt speak up he couldnt compare he couldnt destroy their relationship. and it boils his blood that spirou doesnt give a shit abt any of them and the pick Him instead. of all people, HIM

but like its the nature of the universe its always been like that. fantasio beckons and spirou follows…

PEN,,, INSAEN,,OKAY. i think the love thing starts when he finally realize since spirou doesnt care abt any of that, abt what clothes you should wear to what occasion, abt what kind of pick-up lines girls would like and abt what product you should use to cover up your freckles spirou is the only one who can look at fantasio as who he is and still loves him

literally. he gets SO MUCH attention from spirou and he doesnt try - doesnt need to - to impress spirou thats why hes so comfortable around him and they became best friends and so he doesnt think much of it. spirou would follow and do whatever he wants so he took him for granted lol

spirou could get everyone he wanted and fantasio hate him for that because he wants what spirou has. but then spirou wants what everyone has, because thats where fantasios attention goes. this tug of war is gonna go on forever if none of them let go and see for themselves lmao </3
