actually that ao3 post about calculating kudos-to-hits ratios to decide if a fic is worth reading has me so pissed off. someone put real time and energy into something they are SHARING WITH YOU FOR FREE on a site where you can quite literally filter and search by anything you want and you're STILL trying to find a foolproof method to find stuff that's "good enough to read"???

you don't have to like or read everything in a given fandom or tag, but you also don't have to be a cunt about it and imply that it's not worth reading. this is the kind of shit that moves people to stop creating altogether, and to see people agreeing in the tags is so disheartening. absolutely unserious behavior.

#everyone that smoked in my family had cancer #or caused cancer in other people (see my mom who never smoked but lived with excessive second hand smoke all her life) #so yeah no never touching it #it also has zero appeal to me #i would get presents from my grandparents who smoked and we would have to leave them in the garage bc of how badly they reeked #we would literally have to air them out for 2-4 weeks #and even then it would still stink

the thing is that regardless of whether or not "it's cool and moral to send death threats to fascists online" is true, i absolutely 100% do not trust online communities to not immediately spread the definition of fascist to mean "person i dislike who i can accuse of being a nazi if you squint and look at it sideways" so it's better to just have a norm of "don't send death threats"

if you've ever used the London Underground you might have noticed that it often gets uncomfortably hot. the reason for this is actually that its builders dug too greedily & too deep and as a result the trains are very close to the fires of hell. hope that helps.
