stores to cry in, rated

wal-mart: pedestrian, boring, you can do better. 2/10

target: a slightly better crying experience than wal-mart. the scent is strangely comforting, the lights however are too bright and make for a slightly unpleasant cry. there is however oftentimes a starbucks and a mini pizza hut inside for you to drown your sorrows in. 6/10, points for optimal post-cry atmosphere

an apple store: absolutely not. people cry in the apple store all the time because they cant afford the latest rose gold bullshit apple’s put out. overdone and cliche. 1/10

publix: points lost for the sterile and inhospitable environment but if you cry in a publix a gator WILL smell your tears and come to eat you. being eaten by a gator is in fact slightly preferable to crying in a publix. 6/10 for the gator

whole foods: an excellent place for a cry, people will probably assume that you are a wealthy emotional person who cant decide between quinoa or couscous and are having a real problem with it. 8.5/10 nordstrom: plenty of chairs for collapsing into especially in the shoe department but you WILL be accosted by salespeople. they work on commission and are hungry for your money. 7/10 for style ikea: OPTIMAL crying destination, can climb into a bed and have a total mental breakdown and nobody will ever be the wiser, the employees WILL NOT bother you under any circumstances, comfortable and accessible, 10/10 hot topic: no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0/10

Merlin has to come to terms with the changes occurring within himself;

Arthur is confused as to why Merlin suddenly got a whole lot weirder, and Gaius and Morgana think the whole thing is hilarious.

Part 2 (final part)

It was maybe a week after the whole dragon fiasco, that Merlin relaxed enough to notice the odd things that had been happening to him.

He brushed it off at first. Of course he was feeling a little more possessive of his friends and family, everyone had almost died. And of course he suddenly had on odd admiration of fire, he had just discovered he was a Dragon-Lord, that’s sort of a big part of it.

It wasn’t until another week after these odd behavioural changes that Merlin found himself unable to leave his bed due to the agony shooting down his spine. Thankfully, he could hear Gaius bustling about in the main room, and called out for him, his voice shaky and cracking.

arthur who became aware of the fact that balinor was merlin’s father and that merlin was now the last dragonlord. arthur who lies to his father so uther doesn’t know that merlin is a magical girl. arthur who remains awake and aware to watch merlin step toe to toe with a literal dragon and scold it like a child before turning it away. arthur who finds that really fucking hot. arthur who is there for merlin after his dad’s death and helps him figure out his dragonlord powers (ie his dragon ish features such as wings and claws/talons and fangs, along with slight personality changes like hoarding and a new short temper). arthur who now has scary dog privileges.

all i was thinking of in this au is a scene where arthur is surrounded by sorcerers or bandits or whatever the Fuck and merlin stumbles onto the scene late only to see arthur on his knees and roughed up and he just looses it. his wings flare out and he uses his talons and fangs to tear the enemies to shreds. and arthur who is still kneeling and watching his goofy clumsy idiot turn into a rabid pack animal and just going “…i shouldn’t find that as hot as i do.”

hot take, but i genuinely think that anime fucked up the scene where falin rips her shirt apart. like, seriously. that moment in manga is sooo masterfully drawn, like, literally every element is important in that picture and integral to its beauty. the composition, the weight of the lines. she's screaming, her neck is bent to the side from pain, but her animalistic eyes look right at you. her body is solid, realistically drawn, so all the non-human features are even more accentuated, but she's also ethereal, almost angelic-looking. she's hauntingly beautiful, but also so scary and unfamiliar, you almost forget it's falin.

anime did an okay job (and most of the other scenes with her were great), but i feel like they didn't do it justice

The thing that really gets to my heart about how Laios’s autism is portrayed in his conflict with Toshiro is that his pain is centered and sympathized with.

How many dozens, hundreds of stories have we gotten about that obnoxious side character who just won’t take the hint and get lost, plaguing the main character who is never up front about their actual feelings but we’re supposed to relate to? How it’s played for humor half the time, a lighthearted burden on the main to make them roll their eyes before the Big Challenges of their story, with no thought to the pain and loss of the side character investing so much emotion into caring for someone who finds them a nuisance?

I think it’s even more poignant that Ryoko Kui is writing from a Japanese perspective that puts Toshido’s approach even more in the default, culturally enforced norm, but still asks “what about the feelings of the person who doesn’t have that all-important knack for ‘reading the room’ and picking up on all those invisible messages never said aloud?” and encourages us to care
