Emmett turned 7 yesterday! His favorite thing in the world is to be around his family. So we took him out to Lazy Dog where he got lots of attention and a chicken lunch! Then we drove around all day and relaxed in the backyard until it was time for his birthday cake + treats. In keeping with tradition, another year = another hat 🥳 It was definitely a bittersweet day for all of us. We were really hoping Jasper would make it to Emmett’s birthday, but as you all know, that didn’t happen. We found ways to incorporate a little Jasper into the celebration, though - an extra treat with his name on it and his birthday glasses. We even got Emmett a little fox toy Bc Jasper was our little fox (kids used to come up to us when Jasper was a pup to ask if he was a baby fox 😅). My heart is breaking as I share this news but Jasper crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday 💔 It was the hardest decision we’ve ever made but he was declining rapidly and he told us it was time. We were fortunate to get a good day after two bad days in a row. We did all of his favorite things and showered him with so much love. He was a happy boy on his last day with us ❤️ Despite the constant noise around the house with Emmett and a toddler, the house is still so quiet. When there’s a noise outside, I now only hear one dog barking, not two like I have been so used to hearing for 7 yrs. When my daughter woke up this morning and asked for Jasper (she says good morning and good night to Jasper and Emmett every day), it just about broke me and I haven’t stopped crying since. There is a huge hole in my heart that I don’t think will ever be filled. Jasper made an impression on everyone he met. People who just met him or knew him years ago have reached out to tell me how special he was and how he was the best dog they knew. How they decided to get a dog or corgi because of him. How they tell all their friends about how genius and sweet he was. How infectious his smile was. He was our first baby and we loved him deeply for 9.5 years. He was at every single important milestone of our lives and we will miss him tremendously. We were so honored to be parents to such an amazing boy and we will never forget him. Dogs are too precious. We don’t get nearly enough time with them. Jasper is home! All his siblings missed him so much and were so happy he is back home ❤️ He is still recovering from surgery and is finally eating a little bit today. Unfortunately, his cancer was too aggressive and has spread to all his organs and lymph nodes. There is no treatment plan. We are going to try to keep him as comfortable as we can and shower him with all the love and cuddles he deserves 💕 He is our first baby and our hearts are broken beyond anything we could ever imagine.
