Since she lost a spirit brother today I think this is the time to share her name. Say hello to Shuri Black Moon Mayfly, Herald to Ubasti. She was born around the time of the Black Moon. This occurs once every 33 months when a month gets two New Moons, which this past July did. Ubasti is another name for the Egyptian cat goddess Bast who backed up Ra and was sent after his enemies. In fiction, Ubasti (Bast) gave Black Panther his powers. During the Johnathan Hickman run in the comics, Shuri takes the mantle of BP when her brother is depowered. Eventually Bast offers T’challa the chance to take his throne and power back but he refuses to reclaim his role at the cost of Shuri’s. The only way they can both be Black Panther at the same time is for T’challa to become King if the Dead, gain the knowledge of the ancestors and lead from the Necropolis. Meanwhile, in our dimension, Ubasti is also the name of a comet in the Apollo Group of Near-Earth asteroids. The Apollo group is sending one of its denizens toward earth in November.
