hi I'm putting this on anon cause. Cause. ANYWAY I saw your comic because i was scrolling thru the koga tag and I just wanted to say that it was very . touching I suppose? I struggle a lot with gender and not even really in the same way but it was just kind of a nice reminder that hey!!! other people are out there who struggle just like me!!! and then I scrolled through your blog and realized you had drawn a bunch of reikoga art I loved LOL so... keep doing you I suppose! thank you for the wonderful reikogas, and thank you for your comic :)

idek gender is so weird to figure out and it can be fluid too.... i never really struggled with self-identification, i suppose, but the perception of others really stresses me out a lot.... it took years to casually state i use it/its because i was scared of getting rejected, even by other trans people. (not that i dont get why someone would hate it/its. i deeply get it. its been used against us enough.) so that was a bigger step for me to overcome that fear and it wouldnt have been possible without seeing others expressing themself freely.

when i made the comic, it really worried me whether it accurately delivered my thoughts and feelings without spoonfeeding literal explanations... but, you included, a handful of people told me it inspired some thought process in them or felt relatable/comforting. which is honestly like.... the best possible feeling ever..... its wonderful to get compliments on art but even greater to know you struck a cord with someone or inspired others to get creative themselves.

(adding my opinion since i was there for the anime rewatch. its flawed bc i havent read the manga at all. but for diary documentation purposes,)

please save my earth was a nice anime to watch :) it is very beautiful. the emotion delivered through shots and perspective and changes of viewpoint in it was amazing. i feel like i learned a few things about visual communication through it. it was definitely worth watching.

did i have a good time with the story? eeeeehhHHHHHHH-.....

the plot is interesting and touching. the characters are lively and convincing as young people who have started to regain some memory of another life. they have charm and you feel for them.

ah but rin..... he is a good character? i understand where his behaviour is coming from, i think. he is the perfect believable combination of a man left to die alone (who apparently sexually assaulted a woman), and also a 7yo child. of course he is offputting and uncomfortable. there is no way he wouldnt be. a lot of the things he does are deeply inappropriate for how he looks, sometimes because of their violence and sometimes for their light romantic nature. neither is easy to watch. like laska said, he is key to everything that happens and him being terrible is... well. the point.

but my god did he ruin most fun for me. watching psme, i could never shake of this discrepancy... i enjoyed watching it... but i felt a strong discomfort around rin... which, to be fair, i hardly get this uncomfortable around fictional characters, so he is really outstanding actually. i dont feel like i wasted time. it was a worthwhile experience.

hes also the reason i wouldnt want to watch it again. or read the manga and see More Of That Shit. he reminds me of things i had to experience in real life and, more damning, to my eye it didnt seem like he expressed guilt or regret in front of others. what pain he has, seems to be reserved for himself. and it can only be funnelled into negative actions. it is hard to sympathize like this... a character like this can work for me but not if he has this much presence and power over the plot and other characters in it. it quickly feels disheartening. like i am just here to experience the control he has over others. like he becomes the only active role in the play and therefore the only character. does this make sense.

very odd case for how much it actually bothered me. bc ofc i could be bothered by some of the violent actions here but nooooo its his personality that is most scary to me. like, what the hell.

UNRELIABLE NARRATOR TIMEOUT FOR 20000000 YEARS

watched psme again w some friends and it got me thinking about how a lot of stories have polarizing characters + ones who might even be core to (not) enjoying the work but shions notable for these qualities being inseparable from the storytelling. which is awkward!!!

(manga spoilers + mentions of sexual assault under the cut)

theres the fact that their memories are flawed (incomplete and subjective, even before they were eroded by time) but shion consistently sees both himself and others in the most bad faith way possible. this i think is part of why he can act on his resentment the way he does (The worst way!!!! every time!!!!). when he approaches shusuran with the proposal that the two of them go down to earth the way he thinks to sweeten the pot is to add WE COULD PLAY GOD. he doesnt say they could end war with deterrence and never have to suffer the same loss they did back home, which are his actual dreams. he just appeals to base desires of control

rin spends most of the manga terrified of what shion built after he was left alone, thinking that itll destroy their peaceful life on earth. to this end he systematically ruins every relationship he has, even going as far as to try to kill innocent people despite his trauma around it. except in the end, shion chose love!!! but no one knows that, not even he himself.

and this is where things come apart, because to the rest of the moon gang the guy whose eternal soul theyve felt such responsibility for is 1. a scoundrel 2. a rapist.* which would be a remarkable act of forgiveness if it came from people he had more of a relationship with than "uncomfortable coworkers" and also, you know, were the victim. but mokuren never claims he did so and is instead hung up on her mark not having disappeared after they had sex, a sign that she can never shed her divinity and be loved like a human would.

the story doesnt make it obvious if shes shrinking back from a memory that was later invalidated by the presence of the mark, or if her protests were to the act itself. still, she Was unwell for days after the fact, and shion (who notably doesnt have intimacy issues or a problem with treating himself as evil) seems to confirm it as assault. and then they get closer. and the manga ends as a circular, cosmic love story reuniting the two.

If at the heart of that is assault, id rather throw the whole thing out. i cant take the ending as anything other than a refutation of it. but the fact that such an ambiguity exists makes this a difficult work to reccommend

*going unsaid here is, 3. a child. which is fair, but hard to lean on when rins name all but falls out of use for shions
