It seemed like the other also understood what he was saying to some degree - such a thing piqued his interest almost immediately. The archivist wasn't so interested in recognition for possibly new discoveries but merely a log of all that he had come to experience. This certainly counted as a noteworthy experience, particularly so when the fluffy creature hopping right up onto the seat next to him. Was this supposed to also be a measure of acceptance for touch? He would act cautiously in that regard for now.

Her fluffy tail started to wag in relief and gladness when he replied; it made her pleased to know that he was alright. The fact that he seemed to comprehend some of her bleats is remarkable because most humans find it difficult to understand animal communication, but it's encouraging to know that some people are making an effort to study in order to be able to do so. After hearing him inquire if she wanted anything from him, she shook her head and leaped onto the seat he was sitting on to sit next to him so she could keep him company.

"With such an abundance of people at such a celebration, is it not reasonable to wish to know the names of others in order to continue relation beyond the aforementioned party setting?" Despite his words, the high elder was actually a little amused by this singing and dancing stranger - sapphire gaze following the liquid in the other's cup slosh slightly when they took a healthy chug from the lip.
Tumblr media
"Venti. A pleasure to meet your acquaintance then." He tested the other's name on his tongue before a drink was shoved unceremoniously into his hands, chuckle edging into his voice when he glanced down to the contents of the glass.
"Dan Feng." He offered back in return, taking a sip of the drink and letting himself enjoy the bite of alcohol, opting to knock his glass against the one in Venti's hands before speaking again.
"There are many ways that one can enjoy festivities, beyond visible cheer. Is it so unbelievable that I am, in actuality, having a wonderful time, Venti?"
"Bah, who cares about customs at such a celebration?" This person did, or so it seemed. Still, Venti laughed, refusing to be put off by such admonishments. Instead, he grinned, taking a drink from his own cup.
Tumblr media
"If you are so pressed about it, you may call me Venti~! Does that satisfy you?" Honestly, he felt a little silly, hand still outstretched with drink while he's being almost scolded, but he refuses to let the sour the mood.
He'll just shove it in their hands.
"Why not simply leave, if you are not enjoying this?"

" I will have you know exploding the lab was not a part of the original plan but a bonus if I say so myself. " - from df :3
Tumblr media
Truthfully, Dan Heng didn't know what was worse - seeing his brother pretty much recreate the meme of that girl smirking at the camera as flames engulfed whatever was in the background or the fact that he did genuinely believe that Dan Feng was telling him the truth. Instead he glanced up at the smoke flowing out of the shattered windows of what was previously the science lab at their oh so prestigious school; stopping when instead of relief, he could only feel his blood pressure redouble in efforts to push high.
Tumblr media
"..."
Looking at his brother's satisfied face again also didn't help there.

"I was wondering... How long did it take you to get your medical license?"
Tumblr media
"Curious little one, are you not?" The faintest curl of amusement leeched into Dan Feng's voice as he cast his gaze down to the questioning party. Perhaps this was a way to see how the times had changed and the results of time.
Tumblr media
"From birth, one began studies regarding medicine, politics, and other matters pertaining to vidyadhara health and protection. The aforementioned studies continued through practice within the alchemy commission and into basic military training - perhaps that is where our paths diverge a tad. Training for me began when I was able to grasp a spear in my hands and continued along with practice of cloudhymn magic in both battle and medicinal settings. I suppose when the crowning ceremony occurred in my 245th year was when I truly obtained my medical license, though I had already been practicing for a few decades at that point." Folding his arms together, he opened the floor for any questions.
"Does this provide a suitable answer for you, xiaojie?"

There was no doubt a sudden stillness that came with his presence; an almost eerie quiet that filled the air as it was flooded with malice --intent to harm. Such was the nature of Blade's appearance. There was no introduction, no pleasantries exchanged, none of that was needed. Another encounter that no doubt would end the same as all others, blood spilt but always his own. The only thing announcing the closure of space between them was the sound of metal slicing it's way through air in some attempt at striking it's target: Dan Heng.
Tumblr media
The sensation that prickled down his nape, skimming uneasily over every bump of his vertebrae was a dreadfully familiar one - similar encounters reaching numbers uncountable over the years gathered since his exile from the Luofu. Gathering gales gave him warning back then, echoing laughter from the offending party the short second one before the swing of a blade was burned into his memory from unwanted repetition.
One might think their last meeting on the Luofu would shave layers off of the other's resolve, but their last words only confirmed to Dan Heng that such would not be the case. Just as Jingliu cast him only as the Imbibitor Lunae despite all his fragmented memories pointing the opposite, so was the grudge and regret etched so deeply within Blade that mere words and a singular encounter would do little to lighten the depths of his anguish.
Strikes with no regard for self defense, swings so heavy that the twang of steel echoed down along the handle of Cloud Piercer - a sort of bitter irony coming to mind now that he knew that the same hands that had forged both his weapon and the other's weapon were the ones hacking away at him with almost reckless abandon; these were all moves that he knew well at this point. Knowledge didn't mean he could slack off at any point, teeth gritting with exertion when a heavy swing brought the business end of forged steel closer to his head than he liked.
Tumblr media
"I'm not him! That won't change no matter how many times we cross weapons!" What words might have died a quiet death in his throat before finding himself on the shores of the Luofu previously now found themselves taking a strong hold of his voice, punctuated with a swing of his own spear as if to force the words at the other.

Tap tap tap tap tap tap tap. The sound of little paws hurrying after Dan Heng. If he turns around he'll see a cat-- a bit of an odd looking one, and perhaps even somewhat familiar? How strange.
Tumblr media
Being tailed in some shape or form on the Luofu wasn't a concept that Dan Heng was too surprised about. Despite a pardon and a revocation of his exile coming to pass, public opinion and thoughts of others were always difficult items to change. While there was undoubtedly good will towards the Astral Express and wearing the ticket indication of his passenger status would ward off some individuals, people were always the largest variable when it came to many plans.
These quickened steps either belonged to a very small individual indeed or something else entirely - Dan Heng not wanting to leave it up to conjecture for long and turning to come face to face with... a cat.
He blinked at the cat, the cat blinked back at him. Although he had seen a stray or two during his time here, none of the cats looked similar to the one in front of him... and a creeping sense of familiarity was inching up the back of his skull.
"...hello." Was the greeting he settled for, gaze fixed upon the little feline as they made their approach. Finding himself squatting down to offer up a hand for the other to sniff, he gently laid scritches along ears and chin.

Nothing good ever came of an emergency meeting with the preceptors - truthfully, not much good came from a regular meeting with the panel either, but the results of today deserved more than his usual annoyed rub of temples. Dan Feng had not batted an eye when the formation of the High-Cloud Quintet occurred; a task force between all the various ships seemed an appropriate solution when the forces of Abundance and other enemies alike were waging a collective war against the Alliance felt like a smart solution. Already too, the tides of war seemed to be shifting after the coalition became solid, completed by the inclusion of Jingliu's lieutenant in command after she had passed her undoubtedly rigid review of his skills.
The well forged relationships brewing between everyone in that group had him forgetting about his own duties from time to time, eager to bask in the odd normality of their company. Jingliu had shown a surprisingly playful side to her outwardly stringent personality, Baiheng's sweet and bubbly nature had her weaving straight into just about anyone's heart and Dan Feng was deemed no exception. Yingxing's perspective as the lone short lived species was fiery and full of the life that long lived species seemed to lack - a vigor to his energy that Dan Feng found interesting and one that seemed to playfully butt heads with Jing Yuan the most of all. And Jing Yuan, the one he had known the longest second to Jingliu had etched a place in his own heart long before he was officially part of the High-Cloud Quintet. After all, it felt like he had never known what laughter truly was until Jing Yuan brought it to his shores, constant as the crashing waves were in his approach every day.
Maybe it was all these exchanges that had him forgetting about the tension between supposed tension between the vidyadhara and the rest of the long lived species, certainly borne from the fear that vidyadhara had for being unable to return to the cycle if they were to fall during battle. Points were made on both sides, it was unfair for the natives to take the brunt of soldier deaths when the Alliance didn't only consist them, but the lives of the vidyadhara were not a replenishing source - losses more permanent when a new egg on Scalegorge Waterscape didn't appear. So a solution arose there, undoubtedly made before consultation with him in yet another reminder that he was just another cog in the machine despite all his power and willpower.
An arranged marriage then, to an official of the Luofu. Vidyadhara could bear no children in general, beyond his body's own inability to do so period. The news almost drew an uncharacteristic chuckle from his stunned mouth, disbelief barely scratching the surface on whatever emotion kept tight beyond the mask of the high elder. All he could do in the moment was steel himself and pry into the web of intentions for more information on the matter - sigh leeching out of him when the only information they could provide was that this individual was a general and that they would 'surely pass any and all selection criteria that the preceptors themselves had'. Duty above all, the mantra hung heavily on his neck as always but more so today when the meeting was adjourned and he was left with his thoughts.
The thought of taking on a significant other was never a thought in Dan Feng's mind. His duties and burdens were unfair factors to bring into any relationship, less of all into one as intimate as romance. His dragon's heart agreed with that fervently - romance and emotions were liabilities that only hindered one when decisions needed to be made, complicating factors when the greater good was all that needed to be considered. At the same time, his human heart yearned for connection despite all that - warmed by the bonds that had been forged within the fires of opposition and strife; a beacon of sunlight to cut against the darkness of the moon that his soul was fated to carry through all his lives.
Fears mounted in the coming weeks and questions without answer only grew. Which general was he to be wed to? What did this mean for his coalition with the High-Cloud Quintet, could he expect to mean that he would continue on or would this so called general bask in the power of spouse instead? Surely one who had risen to the rank of general would understand the importance and the effectiveness that the HCQ had showed so far, but his years told him that people were always a variable that could never be accounted for.
Steadily, preparations for a festival began taking shape along with visits to the tailor shop to be fitted for what was undoubtedly meant to be his wedding clothes. At first, no one asked questions about his increasingly frequent partings from the group - everyone had their own responsibilities beyond those of the group so an unsaid understanding echoed through many decisions. It wasn't until Baiheng huffed a bit about how little of him everyone had seen in the last few weeks did the floodgates of questions arise and the discussion of his arranged marriage came to light. Hearing how miffed everyone was had set some light on his heavy heart after weeks of sinking, a rueful chuckle or two slipping from him when Baiheng let out another huff and Yingxing had crossed his arms in that truly annoyed way of his. Jingliu had sighed and only said that perhaps it was for the best that Jing Yuan was off the ship on a lengthy expedition once the truth was all out in the open and most of them agreed on the matter.
The issue of how to tell Jing Yuan was one that seemed to only spin in Dan Feng's head, fleeting touches and gazes held too long gestures that even he had done when it came to the other. He deserved to know in person, not over some roughened slip of paper delivered by a wayward bird but the high elder wasn't sure if he could stomach the heartbreak that was sure to show in his eyes. Jing Yuan, who had always respected his own devotion to his duties and never pushed beyond what Dan Feng was comfortable with despite the yearning that the elder could see in his golden hues, deserved more than what the fates had planned and for once he let himself feel how it pained him to be unable to be the one who could reciprocate the depths of his feelings.
The day quickly approached after that, news of a successful expedition blending in with the cheerful atmosphere that came with a festival.
"They still haven't told you who you're supposed to be married to? It's the day of already!"
"One would expect some kind of courtesy towards one in your position at least. The people would riot if they knew."
"You long lived species and your messed up customs... though guess it sounds like this isn't standard practice."
"It sure isn't! I still say we riot - they can't catch all of us!"
"Combined forces of the vidyadhara and the cloud knights would surely outnumber the four of us, even if I do appreciate the thought Bai'er."
Thankfully this conversation died down before someone finally came to retrieve him, talking about how his silks were ready for the ceremony over Baiheng's thinly veiled gestures to strike first before he bid them farewell for now. The silks were fine and comfortable against his frame, but did little to ease the chill that began to settle beneath his skin or clear the fog creeping up along his nape and back of his head. Bright and striking red filtered a muted crimson in his vision as his footsteps strained heavy on the backs of his calves when he made his way to a platform just below the grand stage in wait.
Two announcements, the announcer said with a voice loud enough to break through Dan Feng's trance before gesturing over to the other side of the stage - haze lifting from his senses when a familiar figure made his way up to the main stage...

This was a date noted on his calendar weeks - no, honestly months in advance at this point. Ever since one of his professors had so casually mentioned the upcoming exhibit at the history museum pertaining to logs and records of the Luofu vessel of the ancient Xianzhou Alliance, Dan Heng had been counting down the days. Caelus had ribbed him a little on it in the following weeks, with March adding in that no one would expect him to have such a vested interest in this when most of his income came from late night streaming sessions with the both of them. Chat joined in on the ribbing as well, with interludes of members who also had a slightly vested interest in the same talking about how one of the leading contributors of known Luofu history was the one who organized the event.
Still, that didn't stop the stream from the night before pulling a little later than expected (honestly, that was a little on him - he should have done some more research on just what part of the story he was on before pulling into one of the longest boss fights of his life) and resulting in a much later waking time than he liked. Originally the plan was to arrive bright and early, before all the people came for the day and leisurely enjoy his walk through the various exhibits.
Now there were way too many people and the section that was devoted to what he was interested in seemed to be tucked away somewhere behind the masses congregated in this building. Shouldn't there normally be signed for a featured exhibit or something? He peered at his map and pamphlet for longer, giving a short glance to the little introductory blurb about the fluffy white haired historian responsible before figuring out a bit of a path. So past the statue of Qlipoth and right at the Reignbow of Lan...
Barely a step was made before his vision was covered with a well tailored suit, the suit following him when he opted to try and sidestep them. A small frown tugged over his face now, not catching what the other was saying when his gaze lifted from the stranger's chest to his face.
"Sorry, you're in my way..." Recognition had his somewhat rude complaint dying a quick death in the back of his throat, question following after as he glanced back down to the pamphlet in his hand. Then back to the other. Then back to the pamphlet again.
Tumblr media
"Oh." What were the odds of running into the researcher right here in the lobby? And too, what were the odds that he would be the recipient of his somewhat bad attitude in the moment? His head dipped down immediately in both apology and mild embarrassment.
"I am terribly sorry - I didn't mean to be rude, I was really focused on trying to get to this one exhibit - your exhibit, actually."
Tumblr media
⊹ ࣪ ˖ ―― 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐍 earlier than what 𝐉𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐘𝐔𝐀𝐍 would prefer, but there wasn't much he could do to change his schedule. Today was the first showing of his months of research on ancient 𝐋𝐔𝐎𝐅𝐔, and if he weren't an expert in the field, then maybe he could have gotten away with coming in late. But the responsibility fell onto him to greet guests and sponsors of his work. While he was well off and could fund his research, it would add up after a while, with sponsors, it put out more reach for his publications. There was nothing he enjoyed more than people learning about history.
⊹――― 𝐁𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 mid-afternoon rolled around he was ready for his lunch break. There had been more mundane conversations than ones focused on the exhibit. It was a somber reminder to the 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐍 that no one else is as interested in the topic as he was. For most, it was a passing fascination, but for him, it was something he grew up passionate about. He shook his head gently. No matter. First things first was lunch― or at least that's what he would do until he noticed someone distracted by the museum entrance. Maybe they needed help finding what they were looking for. Even though his exhibit was a small part of the museum, he had been to the building on multiple occasions enough to know it like the back of his hand. So, with another smile, he approached the young man.

It was necessary to show one's face in public from time to time - such was one of many 'lessons' that fell from the preceptor's mouths long before the ascension ceremony came to pass. The truth of the matter was that he did not mind that part of his duties. Ultimately his position was for the betterment of the vidyadhara and maintaining strong ties with those in power on the Luofu. It was this mantra he kept in mind when those pesky elders insisted on walking with him despite opposition.
A healthy dose of curiosity still dwelled beneath his veil of pompousness, dropped some when with his peers in the High Cloud Quintet but drawn around him like a shield normally. Medicine and wares aimed towards outworlders or created by the same were items that most other healers amongst the vidyadhara deemed somewhat inferior, along with the mental divide already present between short-lived and long-lived species, but he always had a nagging feeling that bridging this divide would ultimately aid the vidyadhara in their search for a solution to their dwindling numbers.
As he looked over the items offered at this stall, it fixed on the other. He too had moved just as the others did, but hadn't quite bowed his head or reacted in more than mild surprise. Perhaps then, he could have a bit of a conversation with them without all of the fanfare that came with his position.
Tumblr media
"You." His gaze swept over to the side, arm coming to direct the preceptors away to create a clear path over. "You are an outworlder, correct? Would you mind enlightening me on what you might be seeking at this market?"
@jueying -- ;
Tumblr media
You're not one of the Vidyadhara, but maybe they could have answers to your predicament.
Al-Haytham fell silent as he pretended to peruse the stalls of the Healer's Market in the Alchemy Commission. The wares peddled were aimed at outworlders in the eons since Homo Celestae had since outgrown the need for traditional healing, but that's what he sought (as much as Su's medical background made him tremendously interested). The Vidydhara had means of accessing memories of their past lives, which had brewed in him the scant hope that maybe, just maybe, his erased past could be salvaged, somehow.
A commotion arose as those present seemed to fall over themselves as a person of emanent peerage entered the vicinity, gossip arising as the Vidyadhara present all dipped into deep bows and sealed their mouths as Preceptors flanked what appeared to be the High Elder of the Vidyadhara.
That's the High Elder. Whatever you do-- Oh, is he heading this way? Maybe he wants to look at the shoppes, too.
It seemed a little odd to him, but he wasn't about to argue with Su any more as he stepped aside to make room for the High Elder and his escorts. Not that he blamed them; outworlder merchants probably aroused more interest, than not.

The stars too were one of the first things that Dan Heng had caught sight of once the Luofu had begun to grow smaller in the vastness of the universe. Even in the decades that had passed before the fateful day that he became a passenger on the Express, the simple pleasure of seeing them alight in the sky was not one that ever waned.
That of course meant that whenever the Express was passing through new star systems and new corners of the universe, he would exercise his diligence and map out the night sky to the best of his ability for the sake of the Archives. Nighttime wasn't quite a concept in the vast darkness of space, but Pom-Pom liked to keep at least a day and night cycle with time for all of their sakes. Nighttime just happened to be the quietest time, which was needed if he would be taking his copious notes.
"Hello." He greeted, quick to announce his presence so he doesn't startle her later.
Tumblr media
"Are you passing though or something else?"
Tumblr media
Ever since she stepped onto the Astral Express for the first time, Emma's eyes were almost always glued to the stars. Her awe was palpable, and she'd even become so lost in the sight she'd miss what people were saying, much to her embarrassment.
It was quiet on the train, most of the Trailblazers were asleep, but Emma wasn't able to fall herself. With a groan, she pushed herself out of bed and to the main cabin. Pom-Pom wouldn't be angry with her as long as she was quiet and cleaned up after herself (probably). What better time to resume stargazing then when everything is peaceful?

Headbutts him. Headbutts him. Headbutts him. Headbutts--
The impact of the first headbutt barely jostled him, only gave him a warning to steady his footing before the second one followed closely behind - sigh pushing out of him a little more tense when a third one seemed to strike closer to the ribs than the broader expanse of his back. Was this how excitement was expressed? Did she need something from him? Or perhaps was this just supposed to be a greeting?
The fact that he was getting a little too used to odd greetings like this (thanks to March and the trailblazer) was a little disturbing to think about. So he would file that thought away... for now.

The Paper, Scissor and Rock.

Was this another test, like the one this same person had postulated with the mention of a lunch at 11pm? Or perhaps Dan Heng was simply overthinking things, given how... unpredictable Morax was.

"Hello." He would give a singular nod over to the other, giving him a chance to regain some composure. "Dan Heng. Nice to meet you."
Tumblr media
A nod would follow from him as well, slight smile tugging over the corners of his lips. "A pleasure to meet your acquaintance, Theo. I am Dan Feng. Is there anything you require assistance with?"
Tumblr media
"Ah!" Oh no, he was spotted! Theo sputtered, quickly trying to recollect himself.
