i finally realized that every answer i had hoped for was in everyday life that’s too mundane to be “fate”, yet too beautiful to be “chance”. happiness must be hidden somewhere in each of our days.

I keep thinking about how Tae Myungha became friends with the people he most saw himself in because he knew those were the people that needed love the most.
Cha Yeowoon - He saw someone suffering. He saw someone who hated himself so much but who did not deserve that hatred. He saw someone who pushed the world away because who could possibly love him. And Tae Myungha loved him fiercer for it.
Sangwon - He saw someone who used violence and abrasiveness to keep people at arm's length. He saw someone who made reckless choices with little to no regard for his own lie. And he made him stop. No more driving without a license. No more smoking. Quit fighting. Your life is worth living. Don't do things that will hurt you.
Kyung Hoon - He saw someone without friends. Someone who was incredibly kind and understanding. Someone who saw the best in people, even if he wasn't anyone's friend. Even if he was just the lonely little nerd in the class that no one talked to. He held onto his kindness. He was someone worthy of complete and total friendship. Someone who maybe just was never given a chance to be there for someone.
Tae Myungha learned how to love himself through loving all of his friends. Through having his heart open enough to allow himself to love his friends. Tae Myungha always took care of others to the point that he deleted himself. But now, not only does he have people that will help take care of him, but he knows it's okay for him to take care of himself too. He is worthy of the love he is given. Because if his friends are, so is he.

From now on, don’t think you have to face everything alone. This time, you must be happy.
I have read fascinating and compelling theories about the ending of Love for Love's Sake, some of which I believe reflect the true message and intentions of the show. I agree that the show is about Tae Myung Ha's journey to self-love and acceptance. I am also entirely willing to believe those who speculate that while Tae Myung Ha and Cha Yeo Woon's story has a "happy ending," it is entirely within the context of this fictional world/afterlife created as a means to help Tae Myung Ha process his grief and regret.
However, I would also like to amplify a theory I've seen from other viewers who believe that the ending really does take place in reality, and that the Senior's final gift to Tae Myung Ha is the chance to do it over: to live, and to be with Cha Yeo Woon. Senior is granting Tae Myung Ha the chance at happiness he did not pursue or receive in his first life.
It may be a self-indulgent theory, but I am a romantic at heart and will throw this one out into the universe.
Tumblr media
Granted, this mysterious text message may refer to the "next world" of the simulation/afterlife. Yet, in my more generous reading, Senior is giving Tae Myung Ha one last challenge and directive: don't squander your second chance at happiness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Tae Myung Ha calls Cha Yeo Woon, the screen above Tae Myung Ha's head clearly says its August 14th - but the screen above Cha Yeo Woon's head says it's August 12. Cha Yeo Woon's race is in two days, in the future that Tae Myung Ha currently occupies.
Tumblr media
Tae Myung Ha must race to the beach to meet Cha Yeo Woon before time runs out. Cha Yeo Woon is also racing towards his future. All that training, all that practice, so that he could run to his favorite person.
I like to think that when they finally reach each other, and the timer runs out, the screen widens to show that both their realities have merged. Tae Myung Ha is no longer in the game; he is in the real world, in his 19-year-old body, given a second chance at life. And Cha Yeo Woon exists in this world. Perhaps he always existed in this world, ten years younger than Tae Myung Ha, but a stranger. Perhaps he is a wish given form and breath and life, the wish that Tae Myung Ha made:
Tumblr media
I think (or hope) the choice by the filmmaker to change the aspect ratio when they meet is purposeful. They found each other. They are both being given a second chance at life. This time, they will find happiness. They will still encounter challenges and heartbreak. Tae Myung Ha will lose his grandmother; he will be rejected by his mother. Cha Yeo Woon will still have his terrible father. But they are no longer alone in this world. They have friends, and they have each other. More importantly, they have the will to live.

I finally realized that every answer I had hoped for was in everyday life that’s too mundane to be “fate,” yet too beautiful to be “chance.” Happiness must be hidden somewhere in each of our days.

The literal message of Love for Love's Sake is that letting people love and support you can be the best way to show someone how much you love them and that you cannot make people happy by loving them without letting them be there for you as well.
Love yourself and let yourself be loved because if the only way you know how to love is by giving and never receiving you will hurt yourself and the people who love you.
