“My loyalty remains with the Shinsengumi. They are my childhood friends. I will follow them until the end”. Okita was born in a turbulent time. A time when there was the emperor and the shogun. A warrior should choose who is their lord. The Shinsengumi chose the Shogun, but to Okita this is an insignificant detail. The only important thing for Okita is the Shinsengumi. 

“There are humans who believe and follow the law of the strongest”. Compared to oni, vampires and other races, humans are very weak. Okita is not afraid to admit it. That is why the samurai believes that humans should not follow this law. “I think the law that humanity must follow is the one that says the strong must protect the weak. We are different from other races. We risk our lives, so the weak can live in peace”. And for Okita, this is what makes her proud to be human.

“It feels like a faraway memory, to think of when we were human. It was a different time for both of us. In my case, I was more innocent and naive. It was a time before I learned the darkness in human hearts could distort so utterly.’

He listens to her speak, nodding a bit.

“Then in that respect, I suppose we are similar. I hold no fondness in my heart for humans. I find them fickle and cruel. I don’t understand a race that so readily exploits and abuses its own. We oni protect our kind from others...You humans must protect your kind from yourselves. However...if there humans like you, I suppose perhaps they are not all bad.”

I cannot say how it is for the other two, unfortunately. Their circumstances do seem to differ from ours.”
