Monsters and Mana 2 - Save the World, Get the Girl - Chapter 14
Character:  Keith Kogane, Pidge Gunderson/Katie Holt, Lance McClain, Hunk Garrett, Shirogane Takashi, Coran, Princess Allura, Matt Holt
Pairings:  Keith/Pidge
Summary: Shiro still hasn't given up!
A/N:
Hey guys, wow, apologies for how long it has been but I have a seriously good excuse! I really haven't been well. In fact I just came home after four days in the hospital having blood transfusions and a minor procedure! I'm still not quite 100% back up to my usual pain-addled self, but I am definitely better than I was. Basically, and incredibly long story made short, I had been unable to barely move since last week with high heart rate, gasping for breath on moving, called an ambulance Sunday AND Tuesday, was gaslit by paramedics and my doctor, and put my foot down and demanded to be taken to the emergency room. Good thing I did! I had been having bleeding for over five years that the doctor had ignored every single time I brought it up, and my haemoglobin level, well, seriously low is classed as 70-80. Mine was 63! So yeah, 2 emergency transfusions, a minor procedure to stop the bleeding, four days in hospital, a leak in a transfusion, three days on only clear fluids and days where they forgot I could actually eat, that's just the tip of the iceberg! I wondered why my makeup no longer matched my skin tone and it was because I was YELLOW!
Anyway. home again now to recover, what a way to spend my girls' last half term of the school year until they finish in July! To think in the Easter hols I had covid, and now this! I'm no longer making any plans for school breaks because I seem to be getting more ill with each passing one!
Tumblr media
‘Blood spurts forth from the wound, spraying the nearest to the corpse, that’s you, Allura, and you Keith.  Luckily you were both standing otherwise it would have been more than your boots that received a new paint job!’  Coran announced cheerily as everyone looked at Shiro in shock.
‘What?  It’s right here on my character sheet!  I’m a bloodthirsty master thief!’  He tapped on the screen a few times to demonstrate.  ‘Of course, if you’d let me reroll…’
‘No!’  Coran, Lance, and Allura yelled as one, not having realised the lengths Shiro was willing to go to to try and be a paladin again.
‘Okay, but I’m not going to pull any punches.’  Shiro leaned back in his seat and folded his arms.
‘Good!  The point in you having a character that contrasts with your own is that you get to act in ways you wouldn’t normally.  Just like Lance being polite to Keith, and Pidge being ladylike.’
‘You are so lucky she can’t hear you.’  Allura shook her head.
‘Well, she’s going to have to now.  It’s time I took the story back to her.’  Coran rapped his knuckles on the bubble surrounding Pidge, who was happily sitting crosslegged finishing off her nachos.
She glanced up with a look Keith recognised, she had zoned out on what was going on around her and zoned in on whatever she was working on on the tablet.  The bubble disappeared with a bloop as she tapped on her wrist computer.  ‘Did we win?’
‘Not yet.  We’re going back to you now.’  Coran scrolled to a hastily put together page on his tablet.
‘Wait.’  Keith said before she activated her bubble again and picked up a napkin.  He carefully wiped the corner of Pidge’s lip where she had a little soured cream.  ‘Now you’re good.’  He smiled at her as the rest of the table watched her cheeks turn brightest red.
‘Thanks.’  She murmured, the bubble popping into existence between them as though it could shield her embarrassment.
‘Now, where were we?’
‘We?  No, me and Keith weren’t anywhere!  Why would you say that?’  She laughed nervously.
‘I mean, where were you in your adventure.  We as in you and me as player and monster master.’  Coran leaned towards her, under the pretence of seeing if she understood that was what he meant but hoping to get a glimpse of her changes.
‘Right!’  Pidge clutched the tablet to her chest protectively.  ‘So, that light I was following was coming closer?’

Guys I’ve not been feeling well but I’m still around. Actually I’m in the hospital 😂
I’ve been going lightheaded and nearly blacking out with a high heart rate for nearly a week and finally the doc agreed to send me to hospital yesterday.
Turns out I have such severe anaemia that I have had to have a transfusion! It’s currently 4am so once stuff gets going here we’ll find out if I’m needing another or even surgery for another matter that the docs have been ignoring for years. It’s been a crazy few days!
Monsters and Mana 2 will be back as soon as I’m feeling well enough!

Monsters and Mana 2 - Save the World, Get the Girl - Chapter 13
Character:  Keith Kogane, Pidge Gunderson/Katie Holt, Lance McClain, Hunk Garrett, Shirogane Takashi, Coran, Princess Allura, Matt Holt
Pairings:  Keith/Pidge
Summary: Fight! Fight! FIGHT!
Tumblr media
The horses ran as the fight gained traction, going back the way they had come and knocking some of the mysterious, black-clad figures aside as they went.  They still outnumbered the group five to one, but each of them were confident of their odds.
Allura swung her bow, using it as a melee weapon rather than ranged, but it had been designed for this, designed for her, and each impact hurt its target as much as any club.  A man ran at her, growling inhumanely as he came, but she knew it was meant to scare her.  It failed.  Instead of running or backing away in fear, instead she stepped into him, crouching over one knee as she did so and flipping him over her shoulder.  A swift swipe of her bow across his temple rendered him unconscious but she had no time to relish her small victory.  Another man already took his place, sidestepping away from another attacker that Lance threw into his path.  He and Keith fought side by side, easily knowing one another's next move, sometimes swapping targets if their skills dictated it would be easier.  They were evenly matched in skill but while Keith relied on strength for his weapons, Lance excelled in agility.  His swords twirled seamlessly through the air like some sort of dance, his body moving in and out of his opponents strike zones before they realised he was there.
Hunk was a force to be reckoned with, his sheer strength and size as he swung his broadsword making many of the attackers back up to a safer distance.  He felled more than his share, and Shiro found they worked well together, Hunk sending them back and away and into his path.  Shiro dashed between targets, almost unseen, using the confusion to easily get close before finishing them with a swift dagger to the throat.
‘Keep one alive!  We need information!’  Keith yelled over the death knells of another fallen man.
‘That may be easier said than done!’  Hunk called back.  ‘They’re out for blood, and pulling punches when it’s to the death isn’t a natural instinct!’
Keith twirled his sword in his hand to take down an opponent trying to sneak up behind him, and he knew Hunk was right.  All the same…  ‘Try and make it one!’
‘I’ll get you your talker.’  Allura spoke through gritted teeth.  ‘Just assure none get away!’
‘You are the ones who are not getting away!’  A man leapt out of the trees, taller than Hunk but lithe, swinging a large staff overhead before bringing it down to the ground with enough force to send out a shockwave, knocking everyone to the floor.
Allura rolled, coming up first to her knees then feet, meeting the staff as it began to come down towards Lance’s head.  ‘You won’t stop us!’  Allura spat as she brought her other hand to her bow, giving her extra leverage to push the man away.
‘Bet your life on it?’  He prepared his staff to swing again but Shiro engaged him, leaping over everyone who stood between them to bring his matching daggers around.  He pushed the staff aside with one while he thrust at the man’s torso, multiple stabs that he somehow avoided.  The man’s movements were fast, faster than they should have been, and Shiro hadn’t been expecting it.  Not that he minded the challenge, of course, but this entire encounter was now boring him.
‘Allura!  Left!’  Shiro yelled, and was pleased when she dodged as he suggested.  Thrusting out with one knife then the next in close succession the man stepped back into Allura’s range and with a flick of her wrist the string on her bow lengthened, allowing her to use it to loop around the man’s neck.  She pulled him back against her before sweeping his leg and following him down.  Using her knees on his back she leaned back with all her weight.  The man struggled but Shiro stepped in, literally.  His foot came down on the man’s head, offering Allura a hand.  After several minutes the fight finally went out of him and he fell limp, at which Allura loosened her bow string once more and released him, which was when Shiro glared at her.
‘Why did you stop?’
‘Because we need him alive.  He seemed to have authority.’
‘Which means he’s less likely to talk.’
‘Or that he knows more than his grunts.’  They stepped toe to toe, yelling at one another, apparently not noticing the rest of the fight had died around them.
‘He’s too dangerous to keep alive.’  Shiro spun away, pulling back his knife as he planned to deliver a killing dose from his blade, but Allura caught his wrist with her bow and yanked hard enough that the blade snapped out of his hand, spinning away and landing close to Lance’s foot.
‘If he is our only living assailant then he has to stay living!’  Allura stepped up to him again and spat angry words at him.  ‘I will not give up the chance to find Princess Pidge to sate your bloodlust!’
‘Enough!’  Keith stepped in again.  ‘We have more than one here still breathing, not for long perhaps, but there is a good chance this man may hold more information than the others, if he leads them.  We question more than one, we gather everything we can.’
‘They’re too dangerous to be left alive.’  Hunk stated calmly as he wiped his axe blade.
‘I would prefer we didn’t have to shed more blood than necessary,’ Keith sighed, ‘but this isn’t the time for diplomacy.  We need answers over all else, but then…’
‘Understood.’  Allura stood down, allowing Keith to make the final decision.  After a moment Shiro followed suit, retrieving and sheathing his knives.
‘It is necessary not to leave anyone able to follow us or return to whoever sent them.  I am happy to do the dirty work so your don’t have to mess up your manicured hands.’  He gave a cold smirk directed at Allura and Keith.
‘If you want paying at the end of this you’ll be less argumentative.’  Keith went to the nearest man and checked for a pulse, Lance and Hunk moving to separate those who still lived from the corpses.
‘And if you’re worth your word as a royal then you’ll pay me if the job is done, regardless of my conduct.’  Shiro toed the man on the floor before retrieving a length of fine twine from one of his belt pouches and hogtying him.  ‘Use this.’  He threw it to Lance with an explanation.  ‘It’s enchanted.  No one is breaking through that without my say so.’
‘Cool.’  Lance grinned before going about his task.  ‘So, what do we think we’ll find out from these guys?’
‘What do you mean?’  Keith asked as he helped lug another man into position.
‘Well, we already know where the princess is being held, and now we know they really don’t want us to save her enough that they sent goons after us.  We’re pretty sure it’s Snagrore that took her.  So unless they have some sort of information of a portal that’s a shortcut, or written proof of who signed their orders, so to speak, they won’t have too much more information for us.  And we lost our horses.’  He added.
They all looked at one another.  Lance was right.  They already had most of the information they needed.  It wasn’t for them to dig too deep or go out of their way to find out the big bad behind the scenes.  If they did, then so be it, but their priority had to be to rescue Pidge.
‘Well, shit.’  Shiro looked down at the man nearest him, and without even a blink, slit his throat.

Sometimes I think about how Keith has no real connection to earth and the whole time they’re in space he doesn’t have anything to go back to. He’s not fighting for the chance of things going back to normal because normal was being alone in a shack in the middle of nowhere.
The only connections he’s ever had have been ripped away from him, all he thinks he has left is his brother, who’s also in space with him.
He has nothing left back on his home planet and that hurts my heart

Monsters and Mana 2 - Save the World, Get the Girl - Chapter 12
Character:  Keith Kogane, Pidge Gunderson/Katie Holt, Lance McClain, Hunk Garrett, Shirogane Takashi, Coran, Princess Allura, Matt Holt
Pairings:  Keith/Pidge
Summary: Pidge continues her escape!
Tumblr media
Pidge ran so hard her chest hurt and her legs shook, so hard she was seeing spots, but still she ran.
The yells of her pursuers rang loud in her ears, although she dare not look back to gauge their distance, and she hit the tree line so hard it was as though she could feel it.  The trees here were sparse but quickly thickened, giving her plenty of opportunities to get lost in their midst.  She swerved right as soon as she was sure she was out of sight and continued to dodge around trees until she found one big enough to shelter behind.  She crouched and put her hands over her mouth, trying to disguise her heavy breathing so she could hear any pursuers.  She could hear people moving, the breaking of small twigs, the crunching of bracken underfoot.  Orders were being given, sending people off in other directions, and she soon realised there were more than the three remaining kidnappers she had left alive.  They had probably recruited the ruffians she had sat at the fire with; the prize of a kidnapped princess was too good to pass up; which meant perhaps a further eight.  She looked around the ground at her feet, searching for a rock, anything that would make some noise, and upon finding one she carefully peered around the tree.  She saw no one directly so threw the stone as far as she could from the direction she faced.  Sure enough, it drew shouts and the sound of running, and she took the opportunity caused by their additional racket to push herself up and away from the tree.  She ran again, this time not at full speed, but fast enough she could dodge the trees as they appeared in her vision.  Her eyes darted at her surroundings, looking for threats, for anything she could use, but all around seemed to repeat itself; bracken, trees, stumps, fallen logs, just the placement or size differed.  She knew better than to panic, it wouldn’t help her, and she knew if it was a kidnapping they needed her alive, at least for now, but she had no intention of being captured again.
She began looking for somewhere to hide to get her breath back again when she saw what she thought was a flash of white light but disappeared as quickly as she saw it.  She was unsure whether it was a good or bad sign, whether she should follow or avoid it, not that she knew where it had gone, but it did make her slow her pace enough to be cautious.  She knew of the fairy tales of wisps that would lead people so deep into forests they would be lost forever, but also of spirits who helped those who were already lost, leading them to safety.  The way she saw it, she had a fifty-fifty chance and at this point she was willing to take the risk.
She continued to progress through the trees, the ground beginning to incline somewhat, changing direction whenever she saw a flash of light.  With it to guide her she made slow but steady progress, the trees thinning in places where the soft ground gave way to more rugged terrain.  She paused by a large rock with a resilient sapling trying to grow around it.  She perched on the edge of it, resting her legs and weary feet, looking both behind and ahead of her.  There was no sign of her pursuers but, as she watched, the small light ebbed out of a fallen tree, coiling in and out of tufts of long grass, as though trying to get closer to her without being noticed.  Pidge smiled to herself, the form taking shape the closer it got, but so timid that she knew if she moved it would either run away or attack her.  So she stayed, and it came closer.

Monsters and Mana 2 - Save The World, Get The Girl - Chapter 11
Character:  Keith Kogane, Pidge Gunderson/Katie Holt, Lance McClain, Hunk Garrett, Shirogane Takashi, Coran, Princess Allura, Matt Holt
Pairings:  Keith/Pidge
Summary: Shiro causes more problems.
Tumblr media
The paths through the forest were well travelled and easy to see by the light of the lamps they carried, one by Allura at the front, one by Lance in the centre, and another by Shiro, bringing up the rear.  One large trail wound through the trees with smaller tracks leading off it at regular intervals into the darkness.
‘There’s more than one safe path through the wastelands.’  Hunk stated as he watched a small pair of yellow eyes watch them pass.  It was likely a woodmouse, but in the dark it was creepy as heck.
‘There is.’  Allura agreed.  ‘But this is the path we need to take.’
‘More mystic nonsense.’  Shiro scoffed, batting away a stray branch.
‘You’re a thief and a non-believer?’  Keith asked, aware of the growing wave of sceptics across the land.  Magic and the like helped those who were gifted, and those who could afford to pay for it, but the general populace rarely saw magic in their every day life.  ‘Surely you must have seen something in your travels that makes you think there is more than meets the eye?’
‘Magic I believe, the mystical crap like this connection with the princess is hard to believe and even harder to prove.’
‘And if I am able to locate the princess, will this make you a believer?’  Allura looked back at him challengingly.
‘Maybe.  If you had more information we could confirm before we reach her then it would go a long way to try and convince me.’
Allura stopped, turning fully to face the rest of the party.  ‘If you want me to take the time to connect to her in some visceral way that enables me to offer you proof, it could endanger her further.’
‘But could tell us where she is.’
‘And could lead to her or our deaths!’  Allura snapped, unwilling to compromise.  ‘I will not endanger Princess Pidge on the off chance you might have an epiphany about something you can never understand!’
‘Easy!’  Keith stepped close to her, putting himself in her full field of vision.  ‘You stopped us from fighting before, now it’s my turn.  We’re not doing anything to risk Pidge,’ he turned to Shiro, ‘and whether you believe in this or not, King Matt believed you would be helpful for this rescue party.  I assume money speaks louder than magic to you, so I’ll double whatever he’s paying you IF you are able to be professional, do your part, and stop antagonising everyone!’
Shiro rubbed his chin thoughtfully.  King Matt had been more than generous, despite his protestations, and double would set him up for a fair while.  Maybe it would even get him onto a boat to leave this accursed land behind.  ‘Double, and a pardon from your country.’
‘You’re wanted in our country?’  Lance gasped.
‘I’m wanted in most countries.’  He gave a sly smile.  ‘But with that guarantee I will not only stop complaining, I will even be cooperative.’
‘That sounds like a lie.’  Allura narrowed her eyes in suspicion.  ‘If you were to offer a blood oath however…’
‘Forget it.’  Shiro swept his hand through the air in front of him.  ‘I’d rather not get the money than blood oath to a kingdom I hate.’
‘No blood oath.’  Keith stated.  ‘I will take your word, but if you break it, if you betray us, then your life is forfeit.’
‘If you can catch me.’  Shiro smirked.
‘Challenge accepted!’  Lance spat over Keith’s shoulder.
‘Guys?’
‘As if you’re up to it, slave!’
‘I’m not a slave, I’m a valet!’
‘Same difference, if you have no choice.’
‘I have a choice!’
‘Guys?’
‘Then prove it by…’
‘HEY!’
They all turned to look at Hunk who had his great sword drawn, looking around on high alert.  Which was when they all sensed it.  The feeling of being watched, not by one, but by many eyes.
‘I didn’t think getting the jump on the Ephbian rescue party would be this easy.’  A sharp voice rumbled out of the darkness.  ‘And to find a bounty worth so much too?  I’m just glad it’s dead or alive.’  A chuckle rattled through the area, making it hard to pinpoint where it was coming from.
Allura drew her bow, concentrating on what she could hear rather than rely on her eyes.  The echoey voice with an amused lilt had to have a starting point, if only she could pin it.  ‘Show yourself.’  She called, knowing it was futile but wanting them to speak again.
‘Not until you’re all incapacitated.’
She sensed the area they were based in but before she could respond the attack began.
Prince Keith’s sword left its scabbard a microsecond after Shiro’s, Lance’s twin short swords a moment later.  Hunk’s broadsword took a little more time in their close formation, and Allura’s crossbow fired the first round before anyone else engaged.
A groan came from the pitch-blackness as the depths exploded into humanoid figures.

Monsters and Mana 2 - Save the World, Get the Girl - Chapter 10
Character:  Keith Kogane, Pidge Gunderson/Katie Holt, Lance McClain, Hunk Garrett, Shirogane Takashi, Coran, Princess Allura, Matt Holt
Pairings:  Keith/Pidge
Summary: Pidge makes her move.
Tumblr media
The breeze had picked up by the time the clock was the witching side of midnight, and Pidge was regretting not having a cloak.  It blew across the wasteland, biting into her skin and making her eyes water, but it did bring one bonus.  The clouds that had smattered the sky earlier had been blown away enough that Pidge could finally see the stars fully.  In just moments she knew which way was north and, if she was where she assumed, she needed to head west via Easthorn forest.  Given her position it had to be the forest she was already aware of, and was now itching to leave, even if it made more sense to wait for daylight.  She pondered this for a few minutes then decided she was better putting some distance between her and the men who had kidnapped her.  Making her decision, she got to her feet and dusted herself off.  She nodded to the large man with finger bones, then turned and walked towards the forest, her pace brisk but not hurried.
Pidge kept looking up at the stars, making sure her course was true, the trees slowly growing larger the closer she got.  Her heart was pounding, loud in her ears and hard in her chest, this felt too easy.  She had got away light so far, all but walking out of the tower and even having time to rest and decide her next move.  Like she thought, too easy.  And she was right.
She had been walking for some time when something, she wasn’t sure what, glance back over her shoulder.  The group around the fire she had been seated with seemed to all be on their feet, with maybe a few more to their number…oh no.
They all turned and looked her way as one, a shout going up as more than one pointed.  She had never been so grateful in her life that she wore sensible boots instead of girly heels.  She spun around and ran for all she was worth.

🎼 More Misadventures of Kidgetrash! 🎶
Tomorrow, more M&M2; Save the World, Get the Girl! I promise!
I've had a lot of medical appointments this week and long story short, back on the medications the doc stopped over a month ago because he wasn't sure I needed them (jokes on him, I've been ill since he took me off them lol), and I've been referred to consultants, some urgently, and I got a medication review with the pain service so there's that to look forward to! Basically, I've been drained and not sleeping but things are looking up! As up as they ever look anyway!
Tumblr media
Here's a gif representation of all the information now running through my head! Except I can't wear colours that light...
