My department at work isn’t that big, only 15 people and we all work pretty closely together every day. And I’ve been there 2 years.
Anyway, this one ojisan on the team came over to me today, and called me by the name of the other gaijin in the team. And it wasn’t just that he mixed up our names, he literally started talking to me about her projects....
yeah so like hi I’m Kim tho

So like I got nanpa’d in Shibuya and usually I just run away from them awkwardly, but this one was actually quite hot so I actually gave him my line. And his line username was his full real name so I was like... great, stalk time! Anyway it turns out he is kind of like the Japanese equivalent of alt-right and constantly tweets abouts the anti-Japanese mass media, China, needing to #make Japan great again, etc.... What

Omg so like, anyone here do translation at all?
I’m doing this course for my work, and this week’s homework is an excerpt from a novel where this old woman talks to herself in strong Tohoku-ben.
I’ve never been soooo stumped. This is so different to corporate translations I usually do...
I’m like trying to imagine an old lady talking in heavily accented speech so I’m like okay and start writing and then I look over what I’ve written and it’s like, WHY THE FUCK IS THIS JAPANESE GRANDMA TALKING IN A HEAVY MANCUNIAN ACCENT
Honestly I’m so stumped how on earth do you make this into English

Omg lol so I got nanpa’d by a guy who was with his friend, and he was doing the standard “hey, where are you going? do you have time? are you busy now?” thing and then his friend just shouts “SEX”
And I was like haha bye and as I walked away I just heard a very loud shout of “何言ってんのよ!!“

When you go drinking with foreigners who only got to japan recently and you’re in an izakaya and everyone only orders food for themselves and then when the bill comes they’re like performing financial analysis to only pay for the exact items they ordered

So like my ojisan coworker got up to leave in the middle of the work day and I asked where he was going and he said to tsukishima to visit a customer. I was jokingly like “well they have an owl cafe in tsukishima DONT MISS IT”
A few hours later he comes back and shows me his phone — complete with a selfie with an owl on his head

Omg. So like.....
I had been playing badminton at a sports center and I was sitting downstairs waiting for my friends.
And then this oldish guy comes up to me looking really nervous.
He writes on a piece of paper “are you Kim?”, so obviously I’m like “yes??” and then he writes “My name is XX. I am a vet. Do you know Shibata?”
I do know someone called Shibata so I said yes, and asked him how he knew my name. He then wrote that Shibata told him. So I was freaked out at this point like has my coworker told some man about me? And how did he know I would be here?! Am I being stalked? My friend also interpreted it as being a stalker so started to get standoffish with the guy.
At this point some woman walked up who seemed to know the man, and was like are you here for the conference? I was like... no I was just playing badminton. The woman was like oh I guess this was all a mistake then. We left, confused. On the way out I took note of the name of the conference.
... it was a conference for deaf people, and some woman called Kim was coming from America to give an inspirational speech on how deaf people can become vets.
AND NOW I FEEL TERRIBLE.
