A/N: ARIHAN FLUFF -- Rohan coming home after teaching at the university. Sharing a family meal and talking about future plans. Just softness 💚

Walking in through the garage, Rohan shut and locked the door behind him, hanging his keys up on the rack nearby. Hooking a finger into the knot of his tie, he sighed, loosening the fabric and walking into the hallway.

The house smelled like apples and freshly cooking rice and Rohan smiled, heading for the kitchen. As expected, Ari was there, sitting on the floor with Ellie close by. The weeks had flown by, and Eliana was already getting stronger, beginning to crawl around and explore.

God, it won’t be long until she’s walking… Has it really been this long already?

As he walked in, Ari looked up, grinning as she saw him.

“Tadaima~” Rohan said out of habit, walking over to his wife.

Standing and picking Ellie up, Ari walked over with a soft “Okaerinasai~” and a kiss on his cheek. He smiled, holding his wife close, then reaching out to take Ellie. The little one babbled and laughed, giggling as Rohan bounced her and held her up in the air.

“Who’s my girl??” Rohan swooped Eliana down, giving her little kisses as she reached for his headband, getting a firm grip on it and pulling it down over his glasses. He chuckled, playfully nibbling on her hand and fingers, then blowing a raspberry on her palm.

Ellie giggled even more, flapping her arms slightly and leaning forward, nestling onto his shoulder. He hummed, rubbing the little one’s back and resting his cheek next to her head as he fixed his headband.

“How was teaching today?” Ari stood close, watching both of them with soft eyes.

“It went well, I think. Everyone is excited for a break soon, but I’ve seen so much improvement since the start of the semester. They’re starting to think more like storytellers and designers.”

“That kind of breakthrough is always exciting.” Grinning, Ari popped a kiss on his cheek. “I’m glad you’re home. Missed you.”

Rohan smiled back, rocking Ellie gently. “It’s only half a day~” He chuckled, watching his wife give him sad eyes. “But I missed you too~ Both of you. It’s always such a relief to come home.”

Pulling Ellie away from his shoulder, he sat her up on the counter, supporting her waist and watching her grin up at him and look around the kitchen. She was already so attentive and curious.

“What’s for dinner?”

“Ah!” Ari walked over to the stove, opening a pan lid. “Beef and broccoli with rice. I made that apple jam I was working on too, so we can have it for dessert with ice cream. Sound good?”

Nodding, Rohan picked Ellie up again. “Perfect. I’ll get Ellie in the high chair then help with dishes.”

“Thanks, babe.” Ari was digging through a drawer to find the pot holders, bringing them over to the table while Rohan strapped Eliana into the high chair, securing her with the waist band, then putting the tray down while she babbled and squealed.

“Yeah?? Mhm??? Really??!” Rohan replied to all her little conversation, encouraging her to keep talking. “Why don’t we read some books after dinner, Ellie?? Would you like that?”

Eliana squealed loudly, slamming her tiny palms on the high chair with a “yayayayaya” sound, kicking her legs at the same time. Rohan laughed, walking to the cupboard to get out plates and turning to Ari.

“She’s gotten so much more responsive lately. I can’t believe she’s going to learn how to walk and talk pretty soon.”

Ari chuckled, bringing the pans to the table. “It’s amazing how fast they grow up. I’ve been holding her up more and she’s getting stronger legs. She’ll definitely be able to take some wobbly steps soon. I know it’s a little early, but she’s a strong kiddo. I swear she’s working on words too.”

Heading for the fridge, Ari grabbed out two drinks, bringing them over. “Can’t say I’m surprised when she has two genius book-loving parents~~”

Smirking, Rohan took one of the drinks, pouring it into his glass. “You’re the one with her all day. She gets it from you~”

“Both of us. You read to her all the time and she loves it. She’s lucky to have you as her dad~”

Blushing slightly, Rohan grabbed the bowl of rice and served a portion into his bowl, quietly happy. Ari did the same for herself, then with the main dish, passing it to Rohan after. With a quiet “itadakimasu” they began the meal, Ari stopping to feed Ellie her baby food—she had almost entirely transitioned off of breast milk and preferred food to just drinking her meal.

“Ellie’s definitely going to get some teeth soon.” Ari smiled over at Rohan, moving the spoon to scoop up the extra food. “She’s so excited about new food. I let her try squash and she ate the whole jar, no problem. At this rate, she might turn orange like my brother did as kid.”

“He what??” Rohan laughed, taking another bite of the meal.

“He ate so much squash and carrots that he started turning orange!! It’s real!!”

Digging a notebook from his messenger bag, Rohan started making a note. “I’m gonna write that down. It’s weird. I like it.”

Flipping through his notes, he landed on his research page, slipping it over to Ari. “Could you help me tonight? I need some information about this stuff before I make new panels tomorrow. But I also need to read to Ellie and grade assignments. It would really help me out. I trust your research. Heaven can be with you too so you can teach him everything, then he can give it to me.”

“Really?” Ari’s eyes glittered as she took the notebook, taking a picture of the page with her phone. “I’ll get to it after we put Ellie to bed.”

Rohan nodded, taking his notebook back. “Thank you.”

“Of course…” Ari fed Ellie another bite, reaching up to clean off baby Ell’s face as she spit some of it out. “If Ellie keeps this up, I might be able to get back to stained glass soon.”

Looking up, Rohan’s face brightened. “Really?”

“Mhmmm. I just waited for now so we didn’t put her at risk with lead, but she’s not taking much milk anymore. I’m excited to make some new pieces soon.”

“Will you be over at the Foundation while I’m teaching then??”

“Probably so. I like being at home when you’re in the studio.”

Rohan smiled, nodding. “Me too… It’s weird being away for teaching. I feel like we’ve been inseparable since our first Tokyo trip.”

Ari laughed, leaning back into her seat. “Oh gosh, that seems like so long ago. You finally convinced me to move my stuff over here so I ‘didn’t have to pay for the hotel while we were gone.’ “

“Well… it worked, didn’t it?~~”

“Yeah, it did. It was perfect timing to be honest.”

Ellie yelled out a “bababababa!!!!” interrupting her parents and spilling over the bit of mushed carrots left in her glass jar, smooshing it all over the tray with her wavy hands.

“Ahhh, kiddo!!” Ari jumped up, rushing to grab paper towels to clean off Ellie and the tray.

Rohan stood as well, unclipping Eliana and holding her up as Ari wiped off her tiny hands and face. He watched closely as his wife cleaned Ellie up, fondly admiring her care and gentleness. When Ari looked up at him, his heart swelled, like the first time she had fixed his headband, their first kiss, and their vows.

Somehow, he was feeling nostalgic lately. Maybe it was the weather, like snuggling indoors more, or maybe just being away more, making him long for closeness. Leaning in, Rohan pressed a kiss to Ari’s lips, resting there while Ellie babbled between them.

When they pulled away, Ari panted softly, breathless and surprised. Rohan hugged her close, holding her next to Ellie.
