yknow ever since people realized tumblr isnt dead and have decided to flock here from twitter and tiktok ive seen a huge influx of people in fandom spaces who dont reblog anything. at all.

like, i used to have an art blog with 340 followers. not a ton but not a small amount either given how this website works with creators. and in my experience back then even the ones who only left likes still reblogged other things or at least posted their own stuff. literally the only empty blogs were clearly bots.

but on this New art blog, i've had so many people with fandom-specific headers and icons with actual usernames as urls and some kind of title or description, but have. Nothing. no posts. all they do is like things. and it's always public, too. their following list and their likes list.

and honestly all it makes me think is that these people are New and also don't know how tumblr works. how likes don't give exposure. not even in a "oh, i know it doesn't give exposure, but i'm still going to reblog anyways" way, but in a genuine honest to god straight up doesn't realize tumblr likes don't work like twitter's.

PLEASE please if you're from tiktok or twitter or whatever please reblog people's art both fandom and original if you like it!! and maybe actually pad out your blog's content in some way so people won't potentially see you as a bot and block you.

Reader Appreciation

I’ve been seeing a lot of amazing posts lately thanking fanfic writers for that good, good content that we’re all disappearing into right now. And I love these posts, and FUCK YES, the healing power of art during these rough times, it can’t be said enough. But I feel like there’s something missing from these posts, and that’s the readers.

A lovely friend of mine recently shared something with the caveat that they “contribute basically nothing to fandom” and I was fucking floored. Like. This person has made playlists for fic, and shared art, and reached out to me to talk about my stories and other stories and like - that is the Work. They made me feel like my shitty writing was good enough to share, and that made me write more, and connected me with more people, and that sort of contribution doesn’t get acknowledged enough. I don’t write fiction because I have to, or for the likes or hits or whatever; I write it because I have a story I want to tell. On the days when my brain is cooperating, writing is a pleasure. On the days when my brain isn’t cooperating, comments from readers make my words feel meaningful anyway. This isn’t a one-way street, a producer/consumer situation. Or at least, it doesn’t feel like that to me.  And my best writing has been done when people are holding me accountable, or are pushing me to do better and I’m so grateful for that. And so grateful for you.

So. To the readers who comment on every chapter. To the readers who leave thoughtful essays in the comments and the readers who leave 😭❤️😱 or keysmashes. To the readers who are inspired for the first time to make art or write something themselves. To the readers who leave kudos. To the readers too anxious to comment (I’ve been there, sat in a space where I had no idea how to express how a story made me feel) and the fandom ghosts who dip in and read and vanish.

To readers who like or reblog or share or rec or send messages or don’t do any of these things.

“You are my warming home, who I was yesterday and who I am now and who we will be tomorrow, it all starts from home.” - NCT U

With the return of this network, we welcome our beloved members with open arms and invite you to participate in our welcome back event. As we reestablish this network, we hope to revive the sense of community and present the creative skills of our writers, while also working to catch the eye of potential new members.

For the entirety of March, it’s all about reconciliation and restoration where “Coming Home” will follow the theme of reunion and second chances.

✧ In your fic, you and your chosen member will work to make sure that love and/or friendship is sweeter the second time around; that the relationship that was once lost can be found once more.

✧ This event is exclusive to the members of this network.

✧ It will take place throughout the entirety of March, where each day has a designated member of NCT, listed in age order from oldest to youngest.

✧ Minimum word count is 1,500, no maximum.

✧ Member repetition is allowed. Writers may choose up to two members, supplying only one fic per member that they choose.

✧ The themes can range from ex best friends to best friends, ex best friends to lovers, exes to lovers, etc.

✧ Works may only be gender neutral, female, or male reader. No member x member or oc x member.

✧ All genres are allowed, even smut!

✧ No smut is permitted for Jisung. (keyword: Watermelon CT)

✧ We do not condone underaged smut and will not tolerate minors who write smut. Members who are minors caught publishing smut shall be removed from the network.
