one of the funniest things about becoming an adult is realizing that adults were not being fun-killers when they looked at your favorite snack and went "eugh, too much sugar for me." Your body genuinely just stops being able to process sugary shit as well and it starts tasting super gross and making you feel like you have to puke after a couple of bites. it does kind of suck but the tradeoff is you get more sensitive to complex tastes so all the fancy desserts that never really made any sense to you suddenly start becoming really appealing.

I am slowly losing my mind over the shift towards video as the default media format.

I do not find this to be an efficient way to absorb information. I am bored and distracted by the time the largely unnecessary introduction is over. I can't use ctrl+f to find the specific information I'm looking for. If there are instructions to follow, I don't want to have to constantly pause and back up to the part I need.

At least give me a fucking transcript.

#on the one hand i agree #but on the other i feel like i’ve never been confused by a video #like. i’ve had to re read a paragraph a couple different times #but admittedly i can read faster than people can talk #which isnt a skill some people have developed #i also feel like the combination of audio and visuals is an incredible aid to explanations #i might be unique in that i have an incredibly difficult time imagining things #like making scenes in my head #which suplemented visuals help with #of course captions and better playback scrubbing should be implemented #and writing should never be abandoned #but i think theres a real reason why videos are becoming popular for explaining things #other than because theyre more shallowly engaging and what not #they each have their purposes #and when a youtube video is more accessible and approachable than a paper i think theres merit in that #anyway

I don't think many people realize how much they've been turned into a bunch of casually cynical jerks.

Someone may come to their parents and say "I want to write a book" and their parents will say "it's really hard to get published".

Someone might confide in their sibling and say "I want to sell my art on "x" platform" and that sibling will say "do you know how many people you'd be competing with? Do you know how many shops are even on that platform?"

I know a kid who once told his best friend "I think I wanna start a dnd podcast" and the friend was like "do you know what the word "oversaturation" means?"

Personally, I don't know why any of that matters? And even if it did, perhaps your response should be "Do it! Do it and see where it goes!"

hi not to post about something serious but it’s really weird how many ppl I see posting about Covid on here take a stance of moral superiority about having never had Covid in 2024.

Cannot count how many tumblr tags and TikTok comments I see along the lines of “I haven’t had Covid yet and I don’t understand why people think that’s so hard.”

Saw one tag that said “at this point getting Covid is a personal problem lol”

Cannot stress enough that even those of us who have been wearing N95s and isolating for four years and still got it because we don’t have the same luxuries of safety as you do or perhaps we just got unlucky. Access to quality masks is a privilege. Being able to choose how and when you will expose yourself to high risk settings is a privilege.

Applying morality to health is, as always, across the board loser behavior rooted in the same eugenic mindset people use to dismiss the neglect and deaths of disabled people, I.e. “if you’re sick and/or disabled it must be your own fault.”
