This is probably one of the most noble scenes that Doof had. He didn't even like Mildred, he was ignored, and even so he saved her by risking his own life in the process. In that moment he didn't think about what he wanted, he thought about how important is Mildred to Scott and did it. Definitely is a great friend. We don't deserve him.
