The Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) is conducting a walk-in interview for the positions of Research Associate and Junior Research Fellows at the Defence Materials & Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE) in Kanpur. There is one vacancy for Research Associateship and four vacancies for Junior Research Fellowship. The qualifications required for Research Associateship include a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university. For Junior Research Fellowship, candidates should have a post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline (basic sciences) in first division with NET qualification, or a graduate degree in professional course (B.E./B.Tech.) in relevant discipline in first division with NET/GATE, or a post-graduate degree in professional course (M.E./M.Tech.) in relevant discipline in first division at both graduate and post-graduate level. The age limit for Research Associateship is 35 years and for Junior Research Fellowship is 28 years, with relaxation for SC/ST and OBC candidates.
The selected candidates will receive a fellowship stipend of Rs. 67,000/- per month for Research Associateship and Rs. 37,000/- per month (1st & 2nd year) for Junior Research Fellowship. They will also be eligible for a contingency grant of up to Rs. 15,000/- per annum and Rs. 20,000/- per annum for Research Fellows and Research Associates respectively, on a reimbursement basis for the first two years. The contingency grant may be increased to Rs. 20,000/- per annum for subsequent years in the case of Junior Research Fellowship. Additionally, they will be eligible for HRA as per Government rules. However, they will not be eligible for other benefits like DA, CCA, Bonus, Retirement benefit, etc., except for medical facilities for self only through MI Room facility available on campus.
It is important to note that the award of fellowship/associateship does not guarantee further employment in DRDO. The Director of DMSRDE reserves the right not to select any candidate if suitable candidates are not available. Interested candidates who meet the qualifications mentioned above can appear for a walk-in interview at DMSRDE, G.T. Road, Kanpur-208004 on 24th January 2024 at 9:00 am. They should bring a bio-data in the prescribed format along with testimonials, certificates, mark sheets, and passport size photographs.

BARC provides graduate career advancement in engineering and science through an exam-based selection and interview process.
The OCES-2024 and DGFS-2024 training and fellowship programs are being offered by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Training Schools in Mumbai and Hyderabad. The OCES program is a one-year course for engineering graduates and science postgraduates, while the DGFS program is a two-year fellowship scheme for engineering graduates. Both programs provide attractive career progression opportunities in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and offer training in various disciplines such as engineering, physics, chemistry, biosciences, and geology.
The OCES program aims to train engineering graduates and science postgraduates to become scientific officers in DAE units or the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. On successful completion of the program, trainees will be appointed as scientific officers. The DGFS program, on the other hand, offers engineering graduates the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in technology (M.Tech.) while retaining their employment in DAE. After completing the M.Tech. program, fellows are posted as scientific officers in DAE units.
Both programs provide training and research opportunities in frontier areas of science and technology, including accelerators, fuel cycle technologies, nuclear reactors, and biosciences. The programs also offer attractive career progression up to the highest echelons in DAE. Performance in the OCES program above a certain threshold entitles trainees to a Post-Graduate Diploma of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) and credits towards M.Tech. programs.
The selection process for the OCES program consists of a screening examination followed by a selection interview. The screening examination is conducted online in multiple cities across India and covers engineering and science disciplines. Candidates can also be screened based on their GATE scores. The selection interviews are held at the BARC Training School in Mumbai, except for interviews in the geology discipline, which are held in Hyderabad.
To be eligible for the OCES program, candidates must have a qualifying degree in the relevant discipline and meet the minimum aggregate marks requirement. Candidates with GATE scores must have a GATE-2022, GATE-2023, or GATE-2024 score in the same discipline as their qualifying degree. Candidates applying for the RSES training scheme must be selected through physics or chemistry OCES disciplines.
The DGFS program requires candidates to secure admission for M.Tech. in DGFS Institutes and specializations listed in Table-3. Candidates must confirm their M.Tech. admission after the announcement of the OCES-2024 Selection List. The number of DGFS Fellows selected in each specialization depends on the requirements of DAE.
During the training period, OCES Trainee Scientific Officers (TSOs) and DGFS Fellows receive a stipend and allowances. TSOs are paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 55,000/- and a one-time book allowance of Rs. 18,000/-. DGFS Fellows have their tuition fees for the M.Tech. program reimbursed and receive a one-time contingency grant of Rs. 40,000/- per annum for two years.
Upon appointment, candidates join DAE as scientific officers in a Group-A post of the Government of India with a starting pay scale in Level 10 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. They are also eligible for various allowances and benefits such as leave travel concession, children’s education allowance, and health services.
Selected candidates are required to execute an agreement and a personal indemnity bond to serve DAE for at least three years after completing the training. The bond amount varies for OCES TSOs and DGFS Fellows and consists of stipend/book allowance for OCES TSOs and stipend/tuition fee/contingency grant for DGFS Fellows.
