On June 5, 2022 I hit the road again for a 300 day trip in my Jeep to help the homeless in 50 cities across North America.www.missionforhope.us & www.christianjeepassociation.org
Today marked being halfway down the road of my mission trip. Four & half months on the road! I have traveled over 17,000 miles to work with teams in 17 cities to give out hundreds of blankets, hygiene kits, socks & Bibles. We have also given food, clothing and water to hundreds of people on the streets.
Because of the increased cost of fuel, hotels, Jeep repairs and the shipping of donations to each city, I’m a bit over my anticipated budget. So I am pan-handling a bit to keep moving down the road. I appreciate your prayers and any support you can give! Thank you! https://www.missionforhope.us/support
Been without cell service for a couple days. Want to know where I am? Want to know where I’ve been so far? This is a great link to find out. Garmin tracks me every 10 minutes. Link is always the same. https://us0-share.explore.garmin.com/MissionForHope
Minneapolis wasn’t really on my list to do out reach but God put in my heart to go to Walmart and fill up my Jeep with stuff. The manager of the store was very kind and donated all the socks. I headed to a pretty rough part of North Minneapolis near the Salvation Army. I spoke to two armed security guards at a church near the Salvation Army. They said if I gave out anything there, they would most likely sell it to buy drugs.
One of the security guards made some calls for me to find out where I should go. His friend suggested I go to the encampment off of the Home Depot parking lot called the ”Quarry”. I drove there and actually drove into the Quarry with permission. (It wasn’t a real quarry.) Looks like about 50 people were camped there. They were very appreciative of the socks, snacks, hygiene kits, water, oranges and Bibles.
The top map is where I’ve traveled so far in the last 10 days. Not a lot of distance but a lot of fun. So far we have helped the homeless in Indianapolis and St. Louis and Chicago is this Saturday.
The bottom map is my route for the next nine months. The outreach stops to help the homeless have been scheduled with Jeepers in each city. Beantown Blankets and my volunteers back home in Massachusetts will ship blankets, hygiene kits and other needed items to each city before I arrive.
I’ll be overlanding/camping in my Jeep between each city. Feel free to follow my route in real time here: https://us0-share.explore.garmin.com/MissionForHope
Awesome outreach to the homeless in Chicago on Saturday. https://leightonoconnor.blogspot.com/2022/06/great-outreach-in-chicago-on-saturday.html #missionforhope #jeepers #helpingthehomeless
Today’s first Mission For Hope outreach in Indianapolis stop was unbelievable! Indiana CJA Chapter President Brian A. Engelhardt and his team put together 170 “huge” hygiene kits. Hygiene kits were different for men, women and children. Brian had so many donations he had to rent a trailer.
Dayspring Center, a shelter for families was our first stop. We dropped off hygiene kits, blankets, books, toys, candy for the kids and Bibles. We’re also able to give them cases of granola bars & snacks.
Our next stop was the Wheeler Men’s in downtown Indianapolis. We were able to donate four boxes of blankets from Beantown Blankets, hygiene kits and cases of granola bars and snacks. Before we handed out the hygiene kits we helped out a little bit in the kitchen to serve 80 guests lunch.
After lunch we handed out full size hygiene kits to the men and prayed with quite a few of them.
I remember going to both facilities on my last trip three years ago. Such wonderful places for people struggling with housing and their situations.
Today was such a blessed thanks to for Brian’s heart for the homeless and God’s faithfulness. Our mission is off to a very powerful start! Thank you to everybody who is supporting and praying for our mission! St. Louis on Wednesday is next!
Card & Cake…out of this world! Going to miss my Calvary family so so much. It’s been an absolute incredible 2 1/2 years on staff. Going is easy, but leaving is not so easy. Love you all! Thank you!
In 1 month I hit the road in my 2dr Jeep Wrangler on a 300 day journey to help the homeless in 50 cities.
