It's kind of funny how X-MEN '97 has flipped traditional character archetypes on their heads to where the nice guy/boy scout is telepathically cheating on his wife while the guy with a reputation of being a total whore is endlessly devoted to a woman he can't even touch. lol

I have more thoughts that I must share. Thank you X-men 97 for not just throwing Madelyne away now that she has been revealed as a clone. She spent at least a year with the X-men. Rogue gives her a big ole hug. Gambit and Magneto greet her warmly. Scott clearly has lingering feelings for her. (And he makes it a point that he and Jean do not have any children because Maddy is Nate's mother).

Maddy is not Jean but it doesn't make her relationships with her family any less real.

That being said, I do feel for Jean and do not hold her words (spoken in anger and hurt) against her. Because it has to suck having identity and memory issues. On top of all that, she feels like she had been replaced and her husband seems to be closer with her imposter than her.

Slightly off topic, I also don't hold it against Logan for being closer to Original Jean as he would know plenty about identity and memory issues.

Endless X-Men 97

Ok, I've watched all the extras and I'm genuinely misty eyed. The heart that went into creating this movie is so evident while watching the film itself, but gods the extras just drive it home. Diablo Cody and Zelda Williams truly were the best duo to bring this to life, and everyone involved seemed absolutely committed to making this a great film.

I think multiple people involved pointed out how ~they~ just don't make movies like this anymore, but how many of them loved movies like this from the 80s, and they are so right. There aren't that many even mildly quirky movies these days, let alone truly strange and, like, dark comedies.

I am filled with love and adoration and nostalgia, and I can not wait to watch this with my kid. Might save that for our spooky month long marathon in October but idk. Maybe we'll do a week of like, Edward Scissorhands, Heathers, Jennifer's Body, and Lisa Frankenstein. Maybe Jawbreaker.

This is why diversity among the X-Men is so important. Because it gives lines like this layers.

This isn't just a mutant talking to a mutant. It's a Black woman talking to a Native man.
