Week 10 - Digital Citizenship and Conflict: Social Media Governance
So what is Social media Governance? In basic terms, it is policies, systems, processes, and approval workflows that organize the use to manage the risks associated with social media. This involves identifying and managing points of presence related to a business that is online. Social media governance is essential for marketing and communications teams to ensure that they are appropriately managing the risks associated with social media.
A great example of a strong and consistent brand social media strategy is PlayStation. They have a strict brand book that all advertisements and social media posts need to follow. Meanwhile, they create a community with many other small creators to expand themselves.

Week 9 - Gaming Communities, Social Gaming and Live Streaming
In this topic, the gaming community is only growing every year by hosting events in different cities and rewarding people competing in these competitions. Like all sports gambling companies find a way to allow their users to bet on new and upcoming competitions, and e-sports has caught the eyes of these gambling companies. E-sports now has the opportunity for fans to bet and win money off video games, allowing the engagement between the gaming community to grow quicker.
Fifa is a soccer-based game and is very popular for all ages, and recently FIFA has become a part of the e-sports community. Where they make teams based on official soccer teams and players. Jessie Lingard is a current soccer player who plays for forest united and has created a five-man squad to compete by representing him as a team by his birth name. Because he has such a large following fans would help and support the esports team through donations, betting, coming to the events and purchasing merchandise
E-sports will only continue to grow because of the advancement of technology constantly improving video games.

Week 8 - Digital Citizenship and Software Literacy: Instagram Filters
When I think of Instagram Filters I think of a shortcut to influence a large community. So in recent years, many women would use these filters, altering their appearance by making themselves look better or changing their facial structure. This caused a massive negative effect on women and is still used today, photoshop and makeup were the old shortcuts, however, it was a skill that anyone can achieve but also add their own style of twist to the makeup design. With filters, it just makes everyone's face the same, causing people to feel bad and wanting to modify their face or body in real life.
Meanwhile, the men have been influenced by other men in the fitness industry and what they use is Photoshop and damaging supplements that can cause significant injuries and effects. Dwayne Johnson is an example of this: being shredded with a low body fat percentage all year round while promoting his movies and other side hustles. He is creating a fake fairy tale for young men who will never achieve that physic without taking illegal supplements.
All these shortcuts create young individuals to feel depressed which will damage their routine of sleep and other important habits. Which may lead to silly acts that may never be reversible.

week 7
Just to sum up what Body modification is on social media, it is when trends on social media showcase and glorify various forms of body modification, such as cosmetic surgery, tattooing, and body piercing. Social media platforms have become a potent source of idealized and unrealistic imagery, and the ability to digitally modify photos using filters or editing software has contributed to the lack of realism. This has raised concerns about the impact on body image and the potential risks associated with cosmetic procedures and some people have engaged in body modification to conform to beauty ideals, mark membership in a group, or convey information about their personal identity, which in fact have been taking money away for useless treatments and advice.
For example, tik tok has a trend that people look at their side profile and judge their nose shape or teach people how to mew to look attractive (see uploaded image). This has sparked people to alter or change their habits to become more attractive, these ads of people smiling and having bright white teeth have been selling products to whiten teeth. With these unsecured people will be tempted to buy products to change their appearance when it has not been scientifically proven to work.

Week 6
The definition of a Digital Citizen may vary, but it typically describes an individual who utilizes the internet or social media responsibly and proficiently. Digital citizenship is crucial as it teaches people how to use technology suitably and prepares them for a technology-driven society. To be a responsible digital citizen, one must safeguard their personal data, exercise sound judgment, show respect to others, and cultivate a constructive and impactful digital presence. Moreover, it entails participating positively, analytically, and efficiently in digital platforms and recognizing oneself as a member of a community that is progressively reliant on the internet.
The slow fashion movement has always been a discussion throughout history and it still continues today. A slow fashion movement is an idea that may challenge the current process in fashion, this may be how the clothes are made, how the workers are being treated or how sustainable the materials used are causing damage to nature.
One debate that is going on in today's society is all the waste that many well-known companies in the fashion industry are leaving without recycling or reusing old materials. Coca-cola and other drink companies currently do not have any plan to fix their carbon footprint. Unlike Nike, they have created a project where they reuse old materials, the Nike Space Hippie is a "space waste yarn" that uses all wasted materials from other shoes and clothing. With this project people in this industry have changed the way they look at materials, it's changed the way that they look at the aesthetics of our products.

Digital Citizenship
There are many ways to define a Digital Citizen. Still, every definition is similar in explaining that an individual needs to use the internet or social media to be regarded as a digital citizen.
A digital citizen is a person who has the skills and knowledge to effectively use the internet and other digital technology, especially in order to participate responsibly in society.  Digital citizenship is essential because it helps individuals understand how to use technology appropriately and prepares them for a community full of technology.
Being a good digital citizen involves protecting personal information, using good judgment, respecting others, and curating a positive and influential digital footprint. It also means engaging positively, critically, and competently in digital environments and taking one's place as a member of a community that is increasingly online.
An example of a Digital Citizen is you, you are using a browser and reading this post by using an account on tumbler. Another example is when a person is consuming content on a platform. There are ways to be a good and healthy citizen, by following basic and standard unwritten rules.
Just like in everyday life you don't target and start arguing with people, it is the same when you are online. Try to be positive and see everyone's perspective on controversial topics.

A digital community, also known as an online community or internet community, is a group of people who interact with each other primarily via the internet. It is a platform where people with shared interests or purposes come together to interact, share knowledge and build relationships. Digital communities rely on digital technologies such as mobile phones and the internet. They provide a space for people to connect and communicate with one another regardless of their physical location.
Digital communities can be so addictive and can affect the individual and the type the topic of discussion. When a variety of media like a tv show is the influence, the show provides a sense of belonging and social connection that people may not have in their regular lives. The platforms are designed to be addictive, with features such as notifications and likes that trigger the release of dopamine in the brain allowing their audience to be engaged with the discussion consistently. They also offer an escape from reality and can provide entertainment or distraction from daily life. However, excessive use of digital communities can negatively impact mental health and social interactions in real life.
An example of a digital community is The Voice, a Tv show which involves Australians singing songs and has multiple large social media accounts. These accounts, they provide discussions on how the contestant performed. They also engage the audience by having a minor pop-up feature on the telly which shows a tweet that a fan has mentioned about the show or the latest performance.

Week 3 - The public sphere is an area, usually on a social media platform where individuals can come together to discuss and identify problems, or topics without being restricted by class positions or connections. A thriving public sphere creates a space for conversation, debate, and learning, which can lead to better citizens and more democratic society. The concept of the public sphere was first explored by Jurgen Habermas, which he stated clearly that it was important for democracy.
Jürgen Habermas was a German social theorist and he explored the concept of the public sphere, in his studies, the Public Sphere emerged in the 18th century and originally was coextensive with public authority", while "the private sphere comprised civil society in the narrower sense, that is to say, the realm of commodity exchange and of social labour. However, Habermas's idea of the concept was intended from the beginning to be controversial.
Twitter is a public sphere that has been debated by individuals as some studies have supported Twitter as a public sphere by using metrics such as equality, diversity, reciprocity, and quality. Meanwhile, other researchers have concluded that Twitter should not be considered a public sphere for civil discourse because users seem to prefer it more as an echo chamber than a space for open discussion
