Lexi, with a bunch of her sorority sisters from Kappa Alpha Theta, approached their destination in a drunken flock of unmistakably some of the prettiest girls on campus. It was the beginning of the semester, and to support one of their partner fraternities, they were all headed to the rager to celebrate everyone’s return to campus. They had pre-ed before the event at the sorority, having done their umpteenth round of shots. After a quick game of king’s cup, Lexi was already plastered when she arrived having, naturally with her luck, had to drink the King’s Cup. The terrible concotion of shitty boxed wine, jaeger, rum and coke, and tequila long forgotten, Lexi was glad to be so drunk that she couldn’t think of him.  Instead, she focused on one step after another with her stilettos, right into the fraternity house where she saw a familiar face amongst a lot of party-goers. “Benji!” She squealed, staggering to her childhood friend and giving him a peck on his cheek as she fell, or rather tripped towards him. “I lost king’s cup, and fucking Brittney put in straight tequila. Who FUCKING puts straight tequila? She’s a serial killer.” Pushing her long black hair back to no avail as her hair soon fell back in her face, she cocked her head in thought after stumbling over her quick, slurred words. “Brittney says you’re the hottest guy in your frat, so don’t say i’ve never hooked you up.” She looked at her friend with big doe eyes before stating with hilarious seriousness (considering how trash drunk she already was), “but she’s a serial killer.”

One Way Ticket Home P.1
Remember that night  I had to leave you You said it's alright And I believed you You know I'm no good No good at goodbyes No good without you Better by your side
-One Way Ticket (ONE OK ROCK)
“21 months.” She repeated after him.
21 months. Okay. That wasn’t that long of a period of time. Lexi did the mental math in her head calmly, rationalizing the time in her head. Okay. That was only 1 year and 9 months. Time passed quickly when she was busy at work anyways.  91 weeks. Manageable. 637 days. Fuck. That was an insane amount of days. It had only been x weeks since they left Praevado Cay, and it had felt like forever since she’d seen her boyfriend. The days had dragged on. Initially, her spare time had been spent pacing listlessly in her apartment, especially when the time difference meant he was asleep when she was awake. As a result, she made sure not to have spare time anymore. Now that he was visiting her in LA, all felt right in the world. That is, until she realized the occasion was more of a let’s break the bad news to her to her face sort of visit.
Throughout her entire thought process, she must have looked frozen in place beside him in her bed without realizing it. Benji peered at her with concern on his features, knowing he was in for a bit of a scene.”Lexi?” He prodded softly, squeezing her hand he was holding.  Screw trying to be calm. The panic was hitting. Lexi retracted her hand that been intertwined with his to shift her sitting position to face him. “21 months and I can’t even see or talk to you the entire time?!!!!” Her voice raised an octave by the end of her sentence. So distraught, she could barely form her words right now. It wasn’t that she didn’t know he had to do military service. It just never occurred to her that it would be happening now.
Swallowing the ball that was rising in her throat, she just blinked back tears as she gazed at him. The thought of having to be radio silent horrified her. The video calls they’d been doing so far had been blessings while they were doing long distance. At least, she could hear and see him. Sometimes, she would close her eyes and pretend like he was right there in the room with her. But to literally not be able to even see his face or hear his voice for a year and 9 months seemed impossible. Lexi wasn’t sure how she was going to survive without him. 21 months was such a long period of time to not even hear his voice.
The worst part was that no matter how much she screamed or shook her fist, her efforts would be futile. “Screw the army.” She snapped angrily. “This is SO stupid.” But there was nothing else she could say. She couldn’t say, “I don’t want you to go” because that would make it harder than it already was. He wasn’t choosing to go. He had to by law. If anything, he was the one about to head into a pretty shitty situation from what she knew about the military service in Korea. There was no choice at hand where she could convince him otherwise. Even if Benji didn’t go now, he’d have to go later. Besides, his logic was more than sound. They were already separated now before she could immigrate to Korea. He might as well have his military service overlap now.
Abruptly realizing that there was nothing to do in the face of this news, it was as if the fight suddenly left her body. Anger dissipated into pure sorrow, and she could only look at him mournfully. “I’m going to miss you so fucking much,” was all she could manage before her tears spilled over and she crawled over her covers to duck her head against his shoulders.

Medicine
Every celebrity goes through their crazy fame phase. They start to think of themselves as gods. That they are untouchable. They fill their bodies with alcohol and pills to feel an even greater high than shots of fame gave them. But Lexi didn’t go through hers because the glamour and the fame made her think she was at the top of the world. She went through hers because she thought that if she filled her life with something else, she wouldn’t have to feel the void of him.
No. She went through hers when she was rock bottom.  [party scene too lazy to write right now because not right now] Before the black-haired girl could even react, Anya was wrestling her to the ground and snatching the box out of her hands. All Lexi could hear was screaming and it took her a moment before she realized that the desperate cry was her own. If she couldn’t have those pretty pink pills in Anya’s hands, Lexi wouldn’t be able to survive. She knew that. Because all that was keeping her body going was the bliss that molly gave her. It was the only time she was ever feeling anything. How long had it been - since she felt the relaxing feeling of happiness without those pills? She couldn’t even remember. All she feels now is numbness and the unstoppable feeling of happiness when she popped a pill.
“Is this the life you want for yourself Lexi?” The much larger woman had wrapped her arms around Lexi’s stomach in a full lock. “That SHIT is disintegrating your brain. Is this the celebrity you wanted to be? Because this isn’t the girl that hired me 5 years ago.” Anya’s Russian accent made every sentence harsher, and more brusque. Every word felt like they were piercing Lexi’s heart.
“Look at yourself.” Pulling her up, still locking her arms beside her, Anya pushed Lexi against the mirror. “I SAID FUCKING LOOK AT YOURSELF ALEXIS. Are you PROUD of yourself? Do you see yourself? You’re half loopy, barely conscious. You have been screwing up at work, slurring your lines. Are you going to let a boy ruin the rest of your life?” The girl was sobbing as she glimpsed at herself for a fraction of a second, before clenching her eyes shut. “Because this is NOT the Lexi I know.”
Deep in the recesses of her brain, she knew Anya was right. Her face now looked gaunt, accentuating the purple bags under her eyes. Lexi hadn’t been able to sleep restfully in weeks. Finally, she had decided that instead of tossing and turning as her thoughts did as well, she’d party it all away. Her dark hair fell limp into her face as she clawed behind her to try to take her box of pills back from Anya. But the fight was gradually leaving her body.  The numbness was there. Part of her mind acknowledged it. It had been a defence mechanism since she was a kid. Escape. Run. Do what you have to do to forget that no one loves you. That your adopted father and mother don’t love you. That your biological mother didn’t love you. Someone who loves you doesn’t leave you in front of a massage parlour in Gangnam. And now he didn’t love you.  But in this moment where her stomach was hurting as Anya’s muscular arms held her to her bosom, Lexi felt a tinge of hope. Anya loved her. Like a child. Like a friend. Like someone she respected. And maybe, just maybe Lexi didn’t need a pill to escape the cold reality.  totally unfinished but w/e

Looking Back at Karma
“Married men never leave their wife.” Lexi tugged the red fabric of my dress back on, slowly rolling it down her body.
She walked into the glass elevator, no longer dazzled or astounded by the skylights. All she could see was her reflection in the lights of Los Angeles. Glaringly so in the glass. She met her own gaze - so dead yet so alive with feeling. Her appearance did not look any different than how she had been an hour ago, except for a frazzled hair or two out of place. Bed hair. But everything had changed. Lexi tilted her head, mesmerized by how unfazed she looked.
“What have you done?” She whispered to the reflection. Refusing to answer or at least, unable to answer cohesively, the reflection turned around just as the elevator smoothly halted to a stop and slid its doors open with bright ping. Mechanically, her lips spread into her award-winning smile, waving at the paparazzi that were still inundating the hall in the gala’s lobby.
“Just went on a wild goose chase looking for a washroom. I’m so stupid.” She laughed drunkenly as Anya faithfully found her side alongside their other two assistants. The assistants’ laughs melded in with her own, echoing emptily in her head. Did she seem suspicious, coming out of the elevator? Did her dress look like it had been yanked up over her body just moments ago?
Walking back into the reception hall, she responded in the only way she had been groomed to do. Fake it. Her smile grew bigger as the unsettling feeling grew within her. How was she managing to do this? Another senator making yet another joke about “those damn businessmen” and she was erupting into prompt laughter, as obedient as sitcom audiences.
She ached.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Dominic casually enter the banquet hall, adjusting his bow tie smoothly. She had untangled the bow when they were making out against a desk in the library. With his hand casually in his right pocket and a blithe smile on his lips, his eyes searched the room quickly before landing on Lexi briefly. The way he flicked his eyes immediately away was akin to a dismissal.
Oh god. You’re an idiot. It had happened again. She’d said she wouldn’t do it again. She watched in silent upending horror as he made a direct beeline to where his wife was talking with her father, a fluke of champagne in her hands. It took only a second for her to realize what the rising feeling was in her throat. Disgust. With herself. She raised the back of her hand to her lips, overcome with a wave of nausea. Glancing back again to the torturous scene, Lexi watched his arms snake around his wife’s waist naturally. Like he did it every day. And he did. But now Lexi knew the feeling too.
Dizzy from the weight of what she had done, she whirled around and flew out of the ballroom as fast as her feet could take her. She couldn’t take the scene any longer. Behind her, the two assistants chased in a confused frenzy. As if wading through slow-motion, Lexi found herself on the white marble floor of a bathroom stall, throwing up all the drinks from the night. Feeling tears sting her eyes, she gave a weak sob and curled up against the sparkling marble, a stark contrast to her sinful red. The two assistants just saw Lexi having drank too much, not an ounce of suspicion.
Was it really that easy to have an affair?
She hadn’t known it then, but she had just gotten a role of a lifetime. One she wouldn’t forget for a long time. No one forgets being a mistress.

“Oh why thank you, almighty Queen Lexi,” Benji replied with a slight smirk. He liked to think he’d grown a fair bit since their first meeting. It felt like eons ago, him being a flirtatious little punk who cared so little that he didn’t even bother with a basic google search. Sometimes he wondered how different their friendship could’ve been if he had actually done his homework beforehand; would Lexi still have sassed him back at the restaurant and indulged in their game of mutual teasing? Or would she have stayed polite and in awe of everything? Would they even have gotten as close as they were now or would she have been another girl among many? The hypotheticals were always in the back of his mind, but Benji was certain he wouldn’t have changed a thing about how he acted back then.
Thankfully the afternoon was beautiful; the sun was shining bright across the beach and the sand wasn’t at an unbearable heat as he kept walking. He couldn’t help but laugh as he not to subtly held Lexi closer to his chest. “Breaking my heart now!” He joked. “I promise– what I’m gonna show you tonight is much better than just my bedroom or even yours.” He was confident in his plan and that was the most she was going to get out of him.
He really should’ve known better. Alexis was one of the most competitive people he knew, and that included himself. Of course, she wouldn’t back down from a challenge, especially not one that involved pride. But then again, when did any of their little competitions ever not concern pride and gloating? Benji still gloated to this day about all the times he’d beaten Lexi and she did the same right back to him. What he wasn’t prepared for was those huge doe eyes looking up at him so sweetly, or how she leaned in close, her touch so warm and lingering as she kissed his cheek. It caught him off-guard, leaving Benji stunned in place as Lexi got a few seconds lead. “What…” He blinked a few times, his arms still held out before realizing exactly what happened. That little tease! “Yah! Cheater!” Benji drew in a deep breath and furrowed his brows, focusing on Lexi running ahead of him. No way was he going to let that little cheat win!
He dashed after her, kicking up sand behind him as he ran. His strides were long and he had the advantage of practical shoes, making it easier to close the gap between them. The thought crossed his mind to try and tackle her into the sand, but the thought of him missing at this rate made him dismiss it. Having a long stride and height meant nothing if he didn’t have the speed to back it up and Lexi was like a bullet firing from a gun. The chair was only a few feet away and Lexi was maybe a foot ahead of him… without another thought, Benji reached out to grab her arm, her wrist– anything. He just needed to slow her down a smidge. “You can’t just rile a man up and then leave him high and dry, Little Miss Lexi!”
Tumblr media
Lexi laughed alongside Benji, hearing him jokingly call her his nickname for her. Other than Sexy Lexi, Queen Lexi was up there in creative and preferred names. It was just too funny. She remembered the first time he called her Queen Lexi, having put down his phone when she had made a fuss at their first lunch together. An eventful first lunch it had been. Benji enjoyed above anything giving her a hard time, so when he would finally cave in and tease her with the nickname, it always felt like a personal victory.  “Nuh-uh! Winners of races can do anything! Including leaving you high and dry!” She shouted over her shoulder as she ran ahead, her feet kicking up a storm of sand behind her. Get your head in the game Lex.  It occurred to her as she heard Benji catching up that she should just keep her mouth shut and focus on running. Her lips would move when she had the taste of victory. Honestly though, curses to that boy’s height, long legs and athleticism. Behind her, it sounded almost like he was running more furiously than usual. Oops, she thought with glee. Kissing him on the cheek had been a spur of the moment, but she laughed internally having really riled him up. Also, maybe somewhere deep inside her, she’d wanted to kiss him. Because she was so grateful to him? That was probably the reason. Regardless, whether or not it was would be future Lexi’s problem.
Tumblr media
More importantly, Present Lexi was about to win.
Nearing the referee chair, she knew she was still in front but he was really close. So close in fact that she almost wasn’t surprised when she registered that he was yanking on her arm. It was one thing for her mind to acknowledge it. It was another for her body to respond. The equation of a running full force forward plus a sudden forceful intervention equals...well...disaster. Unable to hold back a little shriek, Lexi felt herself falling backward as she lost her balance. As she had thought, Benji was indeed close. So close in fact that she was crashing into him back-first as they tumbled onto the sand in a tangle of limbs. The only thing she could manage was a half-shrill, half-laughing “BENJI”. She was going to kick. his. ass. Turning her head slightly, her face was only inches from his as she opened her eyes.

Okay, so maybe he was a little addicted to mobile games. They were just so fun and mindless, especially the game he’d recently gotten into. He almost didn’t notice Lexi sprinting like the damn olympics approach him. “Day 1 me didn’t realize just how much fun you are,” Benji chuckled, locking his phone and putting it back into his pocket. He looked her up and down, nodding and covering his mouth with his hand as if he was observing a model. God damn, she looked fine. Whether she was dripping snot and huddled in a ball or strutting down a hallway, she always looked… hot. Wait– was she seriously wearing heels? Benji rolled his eyes, groaning as he  looked down at her shoes, “I was gonna agree but the heels. You’re seriously wearing those today?” It was funny to give her a hard time, but even though he should’ve given her a heads up, she should’ve known they’d be doing something physical since it’s his planning. “Forget it, it’s too late for you to go back and change. We’re already running late,” he grabbed her hand and started walking out towards the beach. Wait, fuck, she’d sink straight into the sand if he let her walk like that. “‘scuse me, princess. Guess I’ll have to carry you since I don’t feel like seeing you ruin the day with a twisted ankle or worse.” Without any other warning, he scooped her up in his arms and resumed walking.  “And I know you said to surprise you with something amazing or my favorite spot but…” He paused and gave a small smirk. “I figured I could show you that later tonight.”
Together they walked towards the volleyball courts; he’d reserved it for a couple hours. They could have a ‘friendly’ match, which would be anything but that with how competitive the pair were. He figured it’d be a good warm-up for what was to come, something that wasn’t too intense. Plus it wasn’t something baby-ish like building a sand castle or hunting for seashells, no offense to the people he’d asked for suggestions. “If you take off those heels… Wanna race?”
Tumblr media
Lexi raised an eyebrow, the epitome of sass. “I’ll let it pass because present day Benji has good taste now.” As Benji appraised her the way he would before he painted a still-life or before he took photos of his subject, she tried to act as nonchalantly as possible. She knew he was joking around but the way he gazed at anything he admired had always felt akin to a masterful artist appreciating every angle and curve. A connoisseur of beauty. She was only grateful that she’d put in an irregularly Herculean effort today in perfecting everything. Glancing sideways, she snuck her own peeks at him, admiring his handsome face while trying not to get caught.   Lexi couldn’t help but pout as Benji called her out for her heels. Admittedly, she had been in such a hurry she had slipped her feet into whatever shoes had been by the door. And then suddenly she was swept up and they were traversing over the beach with her in his arms. Augh how did he always manage to pull one over her all the time? Every time she’d think she’s one step ahead and then he pulls stuff like this. Stunned, she briefly buried her face against his shoulder to center herself. “I swear to god if your favourite spot is your bedroom, you’re losing points for creativity.” She managed, her head still leaning against his shoulder self-consciously.
The words “Wanna race?” made Lexi suddenly stiffen in his arms and she immediately pinpointed their evident destination to where they seemed to be walking– the volleyball courts. As if doused with cold water, Lexi mentally yanked herself from her elation of being bridal carried to focus at the extremely pressing issue at hand. Redemption. She hadn’t forgotten that he had won their last race. Oh no. She remembered like it was yesterday. The day Benjamin Park won by a smidge. Her mind was racing through scenarios. Her heels were a problem but were an easy sacrifice. They’d be left behind. She deserved it for having been in such a rush and forgetting who she was spending the day with. The alternative problem was the fact that she was very much stuck in his arms.
Then again, it was an easy solution as well. Giving Benji her most angelic smile, she gave a lilting “thank you for carrying me” before grabbing his face gently and kissing his cheek. It wouldn’t faze him, but it would distract him. That was all she needed. She pushed off his chest to roll out of his arms and land into the sand. It was true that it was precarious with her heels but using the force of having propelled herself forward, she hopped up and down efficiently to pull her slip-on heels off in seconds as she slightly tripped forward. “First one to the referee chair wins!” And then she was off running barefoot.

Lexi had spent ages preparing her hair and makeup. It wasn’t like Benji hadn’t seen her super duper gross and coughing a lung out for a couple of days already. But maybe it was exactly because of that. She didn’t want that to be the main image of her in his head. Gotta keep the attraction up. Gotta remind him of the good he had. At least that’s what she was telling herself as to partially why she booked him. The other reason had been she really was so grateful he had spent time with her, and the thought of spending a relaxing day with him where he didn’t have to “work” brought a smile to her face. Checking the time, she grabbed a light jacket and her bag before totally not sprinting to the concierge desk. To Anya’s chagrin, Lexi was never the most punctual celebrity and she often found herself running to make events. Before turning the corner, she shrieked to a stop and slowed down as if she had strolled there. Trying to control her heavy breathing and slightly windswept hair, she smiled widely at Benji who was waiting on his phone. Walking up to him, she poked her head over his shoulder to look at what game he was playing. “I swear, since day 1, that phone has been more interesting than me.” She joked, letting her hair tickle his cheek. “Will I ever beat it?” After shifting the weight of her bag, she titled her head with a small, almost cheeky smirk as she referenced his earlier text. “Here and ready to handle anything.”

Yeah, it was an understatement to say that Benji was caught off-guard by Lexi requesting him. He’d thought that if anyone was going to ask for him, it was some older woman to flirt with or some dude he could try and schmooze with. But Lexi? Damn. He really had to bring his A-game. Benji had started putting together an itinerary and requesting equipment after texting with Lexi to get a feel for what she wanted to do. It couldn’t be anything too intense, Lexi was barely recovered. The last thing either of them needed was her overexerting herself in the middle of a hike or in the middle of the ocean. Still, Benji didn’t do boring. “Alright…” He nodded to himself as he looked down at the list on his phone. There was no way Lexi wouldn’t be impressed with everything he had planned.
After texting Lexi to meet him at the concierge desk, Benji got this… weird feeling. It was like his stomach was in knots, like how he felt right before closing a deal with clients back home. No… This was different. He scratched the back of his head, they were just going to hang out. No need to get so worked up about it. Benji let out a deep breath and pulled out his phone again, this time opening up a gaming app. At least he could play a little before Lexi met up with him. @living-the-lexi-life
