Izana was abandoned when he was 7 which is young but not young enough for him to not understand what was happening to him back then. He was pretty much left to rely on himself and actually did a favour to Kakucho by taking him under his wing. This was until he met Shinichiro, the big brother that he dreamed about and while Shinichiro did care for him, I have no doubt, he certainly wasn’t the best caretaker for Izana. He taught Izana all the gang lifestyle as a way to bond I assume which obviously Izana could only take extremely seriously considering he never had anyone he could look up to. Unfortunately, we know how it goes, Shinichiro doesn’t have any excuses as to why he never introduced Izana to his family considering that Izana was old enough to leave the orphanage, to begin with, and Shinichiro was of legal age. Now it’s not to shift the blame on Shinichiro but he definitely played a major role in what led Izana to turn into the way he turned. He didn’t even know when Izana got out of juvie and it’s him that sought Shinichiro out which is when he learned that he was only second in the eyes of the person he loved the most and thought actually loved him too. So of course he’s going to be furious and shift the blame to Mikey because it’s too painful to imagine that this big brother who was supposed to love him as no one else did might not have cared as much as Izana thought he did. I also have to add that once he lost his brother he had nothing and it was Kisaki that used him as he was vulnerable and gave him an outlet for his pent up anger. Izana is quite frankly awful for his crimes but he was someone who had nothing and with his gang, he built trust and loyalty which he values more than anything else. Then he took what no one was ever going to give him. I personally am in love with his passion as well as the values we share, which are the importance of trust and loyalty. That’s more superficial but he’s also really beautiful and charismatic. He’s confident too and knows how to get things done. I think winning his heart would be quite the privilege actually despite his dirty history and he would treat me better than anyone else.

Taiju’s violent nature can be blamed on his environment and the lack of parental figures around. His father was absent, and his mother died of a sickness when he was young, so he didn’t have the main two protectors most children have in their life. Due to that he was forced to protect himself and his siblings in the only way he knew how, and that was through violence. Which isn’t all that crazy considering he grew up in a gang inflicted environment, it was only natural that he’d see that and follow that same path as well. He probably saw how strong these gang members were, and saw how no one crossed them, and figured the only way to demand that same respect and stay safe was to replicate their harsh ways.

His behavior towards Yuzuha and Hakkai was a poor attempt at trying to harden them and toughen them up like he was forced to at such a young age. He wants them to adopt his same ways so he can be worry free about them navigating in the same harsh world he was forced to make his way through without the help of anyone.

I feel like a villain trying to defend this man ngl

pathos: this actually tugged at my heartstrings a little, truly there's no winners in this situation

logos: so while i understand the rationale about seeing violence meaning use violence to protect oneself/loved ones, my main issue is that there doesn't seem to be an indication that people within the home or close to the home were the originators of the violence. he seems to enjoy it a bit even though some of it seems to be masked as religious idealism. additionally hakkai and yuzuha didn't really seem like difficult kids? it's kind of interesting, i don't see why he needed to harden them at all if he needed them to stay safe as long as he was willing to protect him. but it's an interesting thing to think about.

overall: 4.5/5 mostly because even though i disagree about the motive of his violence, it really is up to debate and everything logically follows. you lost a half point for giving in at the end
