I made the mistake with this one to change the lighting half way through the painting which always messes with the values and colors, but oh well. Sometimes a painting doesn't go the way you want to and then you got to let it go. But I still like the overall comp and all that, so you get to see it, haha. Maybe I manage to be a bit clearer in terms of values with that extra painting that I have planned for this scene, because this scene is just too good to only get one.

Capri fandom seems to love the idea of bottom Damen but for me it's actually very cliche and boring.

When I was reading capri, I was so sure that Damen was a bottom due to older yaoi tropes that I was pleasantly surprised it was actually Laurent.

so since someone put firstprince as lamen in my head, I can't unsee it now. naturally, one uneventful evening in the middle of a black and white film they've seen a couple hundred times, jokaste (as nora), without turning to damen, says

jokaste: had an interesting conversation with kastor yesterday

damen (busy tapping on his phone, texting laurent, updating his instagram, being a menace to society on twitter): *grunts absently in reply*

jokaste: there's seventy-four percent probability that you only dated me because im your type, a.k.a the triple b: blonde, blue-eyed, and a bitch. with ninety-eight percent probability that you developed your type, in the first place, after that one J14 magazine issue when you were thirteen

damen: *whips head up, deep frown on his face* kastor knows about the J14 magazine?

jokaste: said your DNA is all over it

damen: *splutters, sitting up straight* i was discreet!

jokaste: *smirks* you won't even deny it, will you?

damen: *face flaming, looking down at his phone where a new notification pops up, a reply from laurent, muttering* what's the point. and it's not 'bitch'

jokaste: *eyebrows raised*

damen: *sighs in resignation* the triple b you're talking about, it's not for 'bitch'. although it's definitely a fitting description after getting acquainted with him

jokaste: *too smug for damen's liking* oh, so what is it, damen? you're not going to go hopeless romantic on me and say 'beautiful' are you? although that, too, is a fitting description of him

damen: *flushes furiously, but conjures that old J14 cover he knows like the back of his hand in his mind's eye, where his long, thick fingers traced the contours of then thirteen-year old prince laurent's grinning face, before it all went down at the loss of his brother to cancer. the blonde hair he only imagined running through his fingers before, the blue eyes wide and alive, the pink mouth stretched in an easy smile that's rare nowadays, the smile that left a mark in damen's chest and never left, the smile he kept looking back to when it was tough to conjure one of his own*

damen: bright. it's bright.

jokaste: *hums knowingly*

The next vocalisation which makes it down the phone line is a long, guttural, lengthened groan that ends in an unambiguously-sighed “Fuck.” Then, once again, much more audibly startled: “Fuck.” “Did you just ejaculate?” The annoyance rises easily. “You came, Damianos? Already?” “Shit, Laurent—” “Perfect. Just perfect.” The words come out like knives, and Laurent hears Damen sigh with low sympathy. He pushes away from his desk with his feet, and makes to lower them to the ground; the toy shifts almost sharply inside him. The harsh, involuntary noise that he makes will at least sound to Damen like more annoyance. Feet on his chair, knees now tucked to his chest, Laurent bites out, “I always knew it had to be hubris and mythologising. Seven hours, my ass.”

When tasked with writing an advertorial for a pair of sex toys for couples, Laurent—ever-single, with good reason—enlists the help of one of the only men he wholly trusts: his best friend, Damen. But when their attempt to use the toys goes unexpectedly well, they mind themselves falling into a mutually-beneficial pattern. Sex between friends can be nice, if everyone is on the same page. The only question is, which page is it?
