24 People Share their Bone-Chilling Paranormal Encounters
Andrew Cunningham  - June 8, 2023
The world we live in is a mysterious place at times.  There are still animals, creatures, and places on Earth that hold secrets and things we haven't discovered yet.
Adding to these mysteries are the possibilities of extraterrestrial life, interdimensional beings, and of course paranormal experiences with ghosts, beings, and things from the afterlife.
Check out these stories from people on Reddit responding to the prompt "People who have seen something they could never explain. What was the thing?!"

WE TALKED TO GHOSTS IN THE REAL CONJURING HOUSE IN NEW ENGLAND
Megan / Updated: June 7, 2023

WE TALKED TO GHOSTS IN THE REAL CONJURING HOUSE IN NEW ENGLAND
Yes, you read that correctly.
Last year, yours truly went with a friend to the real Conjuring House in Rhode Island. For those unfamiliar with the 1736 colonial home, it's among the most famous allegedly haunted places in the country. The consistent paranormal activity tormenting the Perron family, who lived there in the 1970s, was the inspiration for the Conjuring film.
Tumblr media
The Conjuring House was, is, and continues to be a hot spot for paranormal phenomena. Although no one currently lives there full-time, a devoted (and brave) staff run tours, investigations, and GHO events that are open to the public. You can learn more about these events here ->
Now, on to the ghosts.
The two of us experienced several strange things during our two-hour extended day tour of the home. Some of these occurrences could potentially be debunked. Others, not so much. We'll let you be the judge. Here's what we saw and heard during our time in the Conjuring House.
Tumblr media
Disembodied Noises
Before the tour began, everyone was standing together in a room on the main floor. As our tour guide Marie started talking, this writer heard what sounded like someone moving around in one of the other rooms. These bumps were more than just creaks from an old house. When Marie was asked if another staff member was in the home, she stated that she was the only one there. Throughout our visit, we never saw another staff member besides her anywhere on the property.
Moving Objects
Upon entering the dining area, we saw bundles of dried herbs dangling from the ceiling. All of them were still except for one, which was mysteriously swinging on its own. We looked around and observed that there wasn't a breeze, as none of the other bundles were moving. Later on, two of us went into one of the children's bedrooms and saw a blue beaded necklace hanging from a doorknob...and also swinging in a similar manner.
Strange Light Anomalies
In the home's basement, we saw what appeared to be a small, white ball of light appear on a metal chair. This could've been a phone reflection, but as a friend pointed out, those tend to move quickly and sporadically, whereas this light anomaly traveled slowly and lingered for several seconds. Even Marie seemed surprised.
Things Turning on by Themselves
Marie showed us a cat toy that lit up when you pushed a button on it. While trying to communicate with the home's spirit(s), the toy, which had been turned off and placed on a table, randomly lit up on its own, right in front of this writer's eyes. No one had touched it.
Last but Not Least...Talking to Ghosts
With the help of ghost hunting equipment such as an EMF detector, radio (used as a spirit box), and rem pod (a device that makes noise when it detects changes in the surrounding energy field), we all tried to make contact with whatever spirit(s) were present. Although we didn't always get responses, the ones we did get were fascinating. When the spirit box was first turned on, we heard multiple "hi"'s or "hello"'s.
The activity surrounding the rem pod was particularly interesting. Most of the time, when we encouraged the spirits to respond by triggering the device, the rem pod would go off. Not only that, but when we then asked them to make the device stop beeping, it would almost always stop. At one point, this writer asked "if there are any female spirits here, could you please turn the rem pod on?"
Nothing. No response.
"Okay, followup question. If there are any male spirits here, could you please turn the rem pod on?"
Right on cue, it turned on.
"Alright, thank you. Could you please shut it off?"
A few seconds later, it turned off.
An Unforgettable Experience
Getting to explore and possibly communicate with spirits in the real Conjuring House was one of the coolest experiences ever. This writer highly recommends visiting, as long as you're willing to enter the home with a respectful disposition and open mind. As the property's website says, "our energy, attitudes, and beliefs are amplified here, whether our end goal seeks frightful or peaceful experiences...the impact can be transformative."

TV Talk exclusive: 'Ghost Adventures' Jay Wasley on protecting yourself in the paranormal world
By April Neale For the Idaho Press - Jun 4, 2023
Do you hear things that go bump in the night? Unexplained cold spots or feelings that you are not alone? The percolating docuseries “Ghost Adventures” is now on Discovery Channel (formerly Travel Channel). It has you covered with investigative experts Zak Bagans, Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolley and cinematographer Jay Wasley. Wasley spoke to the Idaho Press about the ongoing hit series that has them traveling to a different haunted destination every week, where they meet with locals, eyewitnesses and experts getting the backstory as they piece together the haunted history of each site.
The group then begins their “lockdown” investigation, using modern scientific tools, cutting-edge gadgets and technology to obtain physical evidence of the paranormal and uncover the truth behind each haunted mystery. Wasley shared his take with us on a subject people either believe in wholeheartedly or have a healthy dose of skepticism, something he admitted he tries to bring to every investigation. But make no mistake; he’s a believer.
Tumblr media
The recently discovered “barrel bodies,” poor souls murdered and discarded in a once full body of water, are now laid bare by a shrinking Lake Mead. The haunted Hoover Dam and this lake started a super-sized new “Ghost Adventures” season — one of television’s most successful paranormal series. They covered the deadly secrets along the Hoover Dam’s Lake Mead, where frightening abandoned railroad tunnels and a local reportedly involved in the occult exist.
Wasley started his filmmaking career in Philadelphia, racking up dozens of feature films, documentaries, television shows, national commercials and music videos before Bagans and the team asked him to be part of the crew in season four. His network experience and filmography cover titans in music, television series and even some of the most memorable commercials ever made. But his interest in the paranormal and the personality fit was so perfectly on point for Bagans that Wasley was swept into the “Ghost Adventures” fold.
Other stories this season involve the haunted Barclay Hotel in Los Angeles, filled with a gruesome history that rivals the infamous Hotel Cecil. They also cover California’s first oil boomtown, Mentryville, gushing with paranormal chaos instead of crude these days, plus The Commercial Casino and Hotel in Elko, Nevada. The spot has a lawless history and negative energy all about it. Also covered is the Longfellow-Hastings Octagon House in Los Angeles, also rife with poltergeist activity. Wasley broke down the new season and how he protects himself from bringing home any unwanted spirited baggage from his explorations. His skills at recording the evidence of the afterlife and managing locals, eyewitnesses and experts are critical to how Bagans and his producers work together to unravel the haunted history of each site.
The Idaho Press spoke to Jay Wasley about all of this and more.
Tumblr media
Jay Wasley, cinematographer for “Ghost Adventures,” has been with the show for 13 years.Discovery
How long have you been doing this?
Jay Wasley: I’ve been with the show for 13 years now. And the show’s been on for 15 years.
You joined in the fourth season and were a sound mixer, but they elevated and bumped you up to cinematographer?
Jay Wasley: Yes. When they first hired me, they got a local sound guy wherever the team traveled — and being ‘Ghost Adventures’ sometimes they’re in the middle of nowhere out in the desert or some nearly abandoned town. So they decided they wanted to bring a full-time sound guy on. So my name was thrown in there, and I was brought out and never left. And from there, being such a small group, only a few of us are out there. And we became great friends.
And then I remember one day, Zak [Bagans] had shown me some evidence they got; I wasn’t part of the investigation at first. I would be there to record sound for the interviews and things like that. And then during one of the investigations, or after Zak showed me some evidence, I said, ‘Oh, you can analyze that by doing this. You’re doing that.’ And Zak asked, ‘You can do that?’ And I said yes.
So he brought me on camera to start doing experiments and more analysis. And then it kept evolving from there. And then eventually, I took over cinematography duties and became more involved in front of the camera.
When you first joined the show, how big a believer were you in the paranormal? And then, how has your outlook changed as time has passed and you’ve witnessed things?
Jay Wasley: When I joined the show, I was a believer. But I was also a skeptic — a bit of both. As a child, I grew up with paranormal experiences. I studied many different beliefs and myths and things like that. So I was pretty well-versed and really into the unknown.
Then when I first started on the show, it came back. It was a natural fit and was perfect. It was a combination of my two loves, filmmaking and the paranormal. I still approach things skeptically, even to this day, but I believe a hundred percent. I’ve had more than enough experiences over the last 13-plus years to say, hands down, that there’s much more to this life than just this. And that spirits do exist.
The premiere episode and Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam with this incredibly long history of strange deaths was something.
Jay Wasley: So Lake Mead was popping into national headlines the last couple of years with the drought in the Southwest because the water levels are dropping. And since they started falling, we’re discovering a dark history of Vegas and the surrounding areas are beginning to emerge and pop out.
And the most infamous one people hear about is that these sealed barrels have been showing up with murdered bodies inside.
That initially piqued our interest, and we’re like, all right, we got to go check this out and see what’s going on. And we get out there, and we’re starting to talk to National Park Service rangers, things like that. And they tell us that this is just the tip of the iceberg. So this emergence of these discovered barrel bodies is not just a one-off thing. It has been going on, and they’ve been finding them, and it’s only been recently that the public caught on to it.

Yes!   Include special offer& contest announcement emails
Our research and initial investigations have discovered that thousands of deaths have occurred at Lake Mead — murders, suicides, accidents and weird situations. And from there, it expanded even more when we started hearing about a guy living locally and remotely off-grid in the middle of nowhere near the Lake Mead area performing rituals and having an altar. When he got discovered by park rangers, he came running at them with a machete, and they ended up shooting him dead right there. And that was part of it. So that’s when we traveled out there. It was about a two-hour ATV ride to get there.
And then the railroad tunnels too. This show all just started as a simple investigation. We heard about the barrels and wanted to investigate that, but it grew into a more extensive investigation that we had to turn this Lake Mead show into a two-hour special. Even the railroad tunnels weren’t a part of our investigation initially, but we didn’t even know they existed. Then, we were tipped off by someone who had found a body inside these tunnels. So we decided to check that out, and we went up there. It became the center of the cornerstone of our investigation, where we spent two nights investigating these railroad tunnels and had some of the most profound experiences — capturing some of our best paranormal evidence to date. Zak was deeply affected out there.

The crew of “Ghost Adventures” might be at a haunted downtown Los Angeles hotel one week and out in the middle of nowhere the next.Discovery
Where do you go this season?
Jay Wasley: We’ve done many locations and other sites this season. I’m excited about the Hotel Barclay in downtown Los Angeles, which is basically in the family of the Cecil Hotel, which was a groundbreaking, phenomenal investigation in my mind.
It was fantastic to investigate that, and we visited some old homes. We do a commercial casino up in Elko, Nevada. It’s a historic building, but they’re renovating it and bringing it back to life. So these renovations are stirring up the activity. It was great to get there and help these business owners figure out what was happening.
California’s first oil boom town was in Mentryville, an oil drilling town in the Santa Susana Mountains, and it is an intriguing paranormal spot. It’s where we recently discovered all these little hidden areas in the greater Los Angeles area that you wouldn’t even know existed. You think of Los Angeles as this big sprawling city, but it was nearby. It was the first oil boom town. We went out there, and it still has the original homes and some of the original buildings. It’s like walking through time. It’s a time portal where we get there, we were just in L.A. 10 minutes ago, and now we’re in this old wild West boom town. It is pretty surreal. We experienced some things that got definitely got dark. There was some intense energy there. And we find that many of these old mining oil towns were lawless. It was like the wild West. And much of that energy still lingers, and we pick up on that.
You guys use a lot of tools. Talk about some of your favorite pieces of equipment and how it’s changed the whole game.
Jay Wasley: Yes. The technology we use has changed the game in paranormal investigations. We constantly try to push the ground and discover new equipment, ways to approach things, and ways to investigate new ways to document these paranormal anomalies.
And much of it is research keeping ahead of things. We use a LIDAR scanning system for some of our new stuff, especially in the Lake of Death special. We catch some incredible anomalies that look like and back up these stories of shapeshifting creatures that the Park Service told us about.
Idaho is full of ghosts too. When are you coming here?
Jay Wasley: I believe we did the Idaho Old Penitentiary. We have done a few things out by Twin Falls. I know we’ve been up to Lava Hot Springs. I remember that. That was an excellent spot. We’ll get up there again.
When you do this show, has anything personally ever affected you greatly? Or have you watched someone who was a complete skeptic have their mind wholly changed after an incident?
Jay Wasley: Yes, we definitely love skeptics, and even myself; I try to approach things skeptically, and my mind is constantly being blown. Over the years, I’ve had things follow me home. That’s the thing. Many people think, ‘Oh, it’s just a TV show,’ but this is our lives.
This paranormal activity continues even when the cameras stop rolling. This energy can follow us home. I even went through a personal experience many years ago, discussed on the show. I was married at the time, and my ex-wife was our photographer. She would do behind-the-scenes promotional work for us, travel with us, and was affected at this location called Goat Man’s Bridge out in Denton, Texas.
She was overtaken, which completely changed her and deeply affected her. And that came home. It was so bad that she had to leave the show, and initially, we said, ‘Oh, take some time off, get yourself better, feel better, cleanse. And then take it from there.’
It worsened for a while, then it got dark, and we ultimately divorced. And that’s an example of many things people don’t see or realize; it’s our lives.
How do you protect yourself?
Jay Wasley: For me, it’s taken a while. For me and anybody, it’s a matter of personal choice and what it is. What makes you truly happy? What is it that makes you genuinely positive? And for me, when I get home, especially if I feel like it’s been a dark investigation or something’s lingering, I immerse myself in things I love.
I am an artist at heart. I love to create. So I’ll come home and play music in my recording studio. I’ll write. I’m not even a good painter, but I’ll paint. Try to turn that energy into something positive, something creative. I’ll go hiking. I’m a nature guy. I love being able to ground myself and reconnect. And that cleanses my spirit and always makes me feel better.

Where is Beyond Skinwalker Ranch Filmed?
Tumblr media
A spin-off of ‘The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch,’ History’s ‘Beyond Skinwalker Ranch’ is a docu-series that follows the Skinwalker team of astrophysicist Dr. Travis Taylor, Brandon Fugal, and Erik Bard and their investigative team of competent professionals who delve deeper into unlocking the secret of the ranch fully. In order to do that and gain a much broader perspective, they add two more influential team members — Andy Bustamante and Paul Beban.
The team then goes after the pieces of evidence of similar phenomena found in other parts of the country. As the investigators explore new analogous sites other than Skinwalker Ranch, questions about the actual filming sites of ‘Beyond Skinwalker Ranch’ are likely to pop into your mind. In that case, you might be interested in what we have to share!
Beyond Skinwalker Ranch Filming Locations
‘Beyond Skinwalker Ranch’ is filmed in Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado, especially in Sedona. Principal photography for the debut season of the docuseries seemingly commenced in December 2022. So, let’s follow the Skinwalker team and find out all about the specific locations where they carry out their deep investigation in the History show!
Sedona, Arizona
The production team of ‘Beyond Skinwalker Ranch,’ including Investigators Andy Bustamante and Paul Beban, set up camp in Bradshaw Ranch just outside the desert town of Sedona in Arizona as the Skinwalker team investigates the site. They discovered some dangerous levels of radiation, a strange temperature anomaly, and a UAP on site while shooting the first episode of the inaugural iteration. Located 12 miles outside of Sedona between Hartwell Canyon and Loy Canyon, Bradshaw Ranch was formerly owned by a Hollywood stuntman named Bob Bradshaw who bought the property back in 1960.
Tumblr media
For the show, Bradshaw’s son, Mason, was also interviewed and said he had never experienced any paranormal activity near the ranch until after he returned back home from college. He explained, “I really didn’t understand it until after high school. But with the paranormal activity and sighting of aliens and orbs, I never really experienced that until I came back from college and now I see orbs out there all the time. You can see them over Jerome.”
Nevada
Several key portions of ‘Beyond Skinwalker Ranch’ are also taped in and around Mt. Wilson Ranch. Robert Bigelow, the former owner of the property, claimed that the ranch possessed mysterious and unknown tunnels that lead to a buried UFO. For recording the first season, the filming unit set up camp on the property and investigated if the claims were truthful or not.
Colorado
In order to lens the third episode of season 1 of ‘Beyond Skinwalker Ranch,’ the production team traveled to Rocky Mountain Ranch in Colorado. Moreover, Andy and Paul also took investigator Katie Paige along with them to check out if the scientific evidence of the property reacted to her presence any differently. You are likely to spot various peaks of the Rocky Mountains in the backdrop, including Longs Peak, Mount Evans, Pikes Peak, and the Spanish Peaks.
