The more I think about that water 7 scene, the more I feel so thankful for sanji kicking luffy in the face. Imagine if that hadn't happened? Luffy would have said something he would intensly regret, usopp probably wouldn't have come back, or at least it would be less likely. And usopp would have felt so alone and ganged up on in that situation. He was looking around for explanation and was desperate to understand, and no one was offering him one. It would be really easy for usopp (or anyone really) to be in that situation and take everyone's silence as them agreeing with luffy rather than them trying to trust the captain handle the situation. And for someone who's already feeling rejected/abandoned/confused/heartbroken/insecure, it would be easy to interpret it as no one wanting you around anymore. Easy for that anxiety to dig it's claws in to convince you everyone hates you now. Thank fuck sanji kicked him, because it not only shows usopp his anger towards luffys emotionally charged responses, but it also promoted emotional reactions from the rest of the crew. At the very least it made usopp aware that it was an upsetting situation for everyone.

#not that it really helped thr situation :( #i don't think usopp was in the right headspace to see that it was an upsetting situation for everyone #he was very in his own head and i can't blame him #nobody could provide the comfort to understand #that's franky's job later #but in retrospect usopp was more likely to take sanji's words in enies lobby seriously with that kick #like he felt so alone during that fight despite sanji kicking luffy bc it didn't help the situation with merry #but it did show that sanji cared #more than usopp was aware of #and on another note im getting more and more bitter about the w7 ending #like luffy hasn't said during the fight that usopp should leave if he doesn't agree with him #but he practically said that at the end without really saying it #he accepts that usopp doesn't want to return (without really talking to him :)))) #and it's always zoro getting shit for putting that thought in luffy's head #but it's luffy who agreed and acted upon it #i don't ever want usopp to know that luffy was 100% ready to leave him behind #and by that i want him to know bc i love angst #maaan there was no real closure for usopp at the end of w7 huh??? #also im never getting tired of saying that if usopp hadn't return for wtv reason that crew would have regretted it so much that it would #have fallen apart over the regrets and not having tried talking to usopp #but that's another story #im so normal about w7 :)))) #one piece #w7 feels
