iceprincesssooyeon:
Calm down. How could he expect that of her? She’d been running for weeks, trying to keep her wits about her even when all she wanted to do was give up and let it all be over with. She’d been calm, played the role, tried to keep level headed since this all began, but the reality of it all was crushing her more than ever. She’d never spoken her piece aloud until now, and though she relieved the moment again and again in nightmares, she had been good at keeping the memory of it tucked away while she was awake. But now…
She was a mess, there was no doubt about that. And she also had no doubts that she couldn’t keep up this game any longer. If he’d managed to catch her, there was a chance that the others weren’t far behind. They’d be on her heels the moment he let her free, if that’s what this lead to, anyway. She was as good as dead by now. It was just a matter of how many more minutes, or hours, or days she could last.
Sooyeon couldn’t just stop crying on a dime- it took her a few more moments to recover. She was still hidden in herself, though- hiding her face against her knees as she forced the tears to stop behind tightly closed eyes. She needed a minute, but she was listening to him, even if she could not yet look at him. This man was not going to kill her, that much was now apparent. But that didn’t mean she was safe. She needed to pull herself back together. In the next few moments she might very well be on her own again, and to be in such an awful state would only make her easier prey. As he’d said- she would be handing herself to them on a silver platter.
Wiping the last of the tears away with the back of her hand, Sooyeon knew she still wasn’t in the best state, but at least her mind was clearing up. Maybe she’d needed that. Maybe she’d just needed to cry, something she’d not let herself do since shortly after this all began. Her breathing still had not evened out entirely, but she didn’t anticipate that it would right away. She hoped to god he’d give her just a few more seconds before kicking her out of his car. Just a few more seconds to gather herself, to catch her breath, before running again.
But he didn’t kick her out. In fact, if she was reading him correctly, he was offering her a choice. A choice she’d not even thought to consider.
With the sound of the door unlocking, she immediately grabbed the door handle, prepared to make a run for it lest he should change his mind. Or maybe it was because she still didn’t entirely believe he wouldn’t turn her over for the bounty on her head. Leave or stay. It’s your choice. Her fingers curled and her heart stuck in her throat. She felt sick. The only person she knew she could trust without a doubt was herself. But she could only get so far on her own, especially without any experience. This man, though… he hunted people like her for a living. He knew all the tricks to hiding, to staying off the radar. He knew the intricacies of how to disappear and all the mistakes people made when trying to do so.
Her eyes still focused out the car window, she pursed her lips. Then, a moment later, she let out a soft sigh, relaxed back into the seat. She moved her hand away from the door and brushed her hair back with her fingers, instead. Was she making the right choice? Or had he only offered his help because he thought it would ease her and make his job easier? “For now.” She said, knowing she needn’t state her decision- it was already clear. Even so, her voice had trembled ever so slightly, the uncertainty of her choice weighing heavily on her. She turned to him then, finally taking the chance to properly look at him. Despite the situation, she felt shy for a moment, embarrassed at herself and her probably disheveled appearance. In comparison, he looked much more well put together. Professional. She’d not put up much of a fight against him, but she was certain that even if she had he would still look quite the same. He was probably used to people struggling or fighting back.
Sooyeon put her head down, feeling her heartbeat level back out to something fairly normal, even as she swallowed hard She wanted to thank him for believing her, for giving her a choice that might see her safe for a bit longer, but she also still felt wary, uncertain of his intentions. Did he really mean to help her? And if so, why? What did the truth matter when he could far more easily turn her in and see himself leave a bit richer? “What do we do now?” She asked him softly, hoping he might have an answer in mind, even if he wouldn’t share it with her. She lifted her eyes again to look at him, though her head remained bowed- out of respect or fear? Maybe a bit of both.
Leo waited as the woman composed herself. Her chest rose and fell, an almost hyponotic motion as the seconds passed in near silence. Her hair fell softly, defeated, against her cheeks. It was an offer that he had never once before considered. Only a fool would weigh themselves down with a burden this emotionally unstable, this vulnerable. And yet, here he was. Waiting for an answer. Giving her time to come to the conclusion that he knew she would realise was the rational one - for her, if not for him.
For now. Yes. Yes, this only had to be a temporary arrangement. Leo could hardly keep her with him when he had to take up another job. Too many questions. Too much to lose. He’d just have to get her somewhere safer, someplace outside the main area those men had control over. Get her to a broker perhaps? Create a new identity to barely cover her tracks?
God, what was he doing? This was a ridiculous plan at the best of times. And now she was here... Leo’s fingers flexed, a fraction of a gesture that betrayed his irritation, his frustration. Not towards Jung Sooyeon - everything she had said, done, inferred this far was all perfectly rational - but towards his own inexplicable desire to help her.
Foolish. But she didn’t need to know that. He gave her a curt nod, his gaze flickering up and down her face for one moment, before turning back to face the window. The car started with a low hum as he turned the key.
“Now,” he began, “We put as much distance between us and them as possible.” At the very least, it what prolong any time they might have to make some actual worthwhile decisions. He’d have to check in with the agency he’d been reporting to, fabricate a reason to turn the job in. Which would be far easier if he’d ever had a reason to before... No matter, that was not her concern. Despite himself, his eyes darted to the figure beside him one more time. Was he hoping she’d look back at him? Give him something more to understand in her expression?
Leo felt another spark of irritation. He had no right to understand her, no right to even judge her for any of her reactions. So he settled on addressing the one reasonable feeling that he could make sense of; her fear.
“Sooyeon,” he said after much too long of a pause, “What identification do you have with you? Technology, ID’s, anything.... What did you leave behind?”
“Anything you have remaining we will need to dispose of. And we’ll need to change your appearance somewhat too...” No, too far ahead. “But first, I’ll find a place to take us to rest tomorrow. It’s better if we... drive through the night. As much as we can.”
Hours in a car with a complete stranger. He was asking much of her, but Sooyeon had consented to staying with him. For now. Therefore, she had to trust him to some degree. How? Leo had no idea. That was for her to understand. Although... did she even know his name? It would be ridiculous for him to give it her, but given the circumstances, it was hardly going to be the most reckless thing he’d done this afternoon.
“I, uh... Leo. My name is Leo. If you need to address me, you can use that.” Ah yes. That didn’t sound suspicious at all. His expression darkened. Signing himself for company on a solitary trip... that must have been the stupidest thing he done of all.

open to: anyone! (m/f/nb)

“Are you expecting me to believe that you are hiding nothing when you couldn’t meet my eyes when I asked for the truth?” Maybe she was a little bit cranky now that she barely has any sleep but still, she wasn’t asking much. “Can’t you… just be truthful? What is going on?”
“Nothing is going on, I promise,” Seojin replied, still not meeting her eyes. He could practically feel the guilt rubbing off of him in waves, but what was he to do? This wasn’t exactly an irregular occurrence. In fact, he hated lying, despite being rather practised at it. What else was an author if not some form of professional liar? He’d tell her about Mae when he was ready. When he was sure it was the right thing to do.
So instead, he deflected with a teasing smile. “Why do you assume I’m hiding things? Do I really look that suspicious?”

ofpearlsxgods:
It was a shame that she just missed his girlfriend. It left her no choice but to invite Jaehwan and Jaehwan only for this date. Kyungri almost wept just from thinking she would have him for herself. But she nodded, agreeing to be quiet, in case his girlfriend returned from gods know where and unleashed her wrath upon them. “Oh no, we wouldn’t want that.” The mermaid quickly added.
Lowering her head as he did, touching her forehead against his and waiting a second, Kyungri confirmed what had been said. “Yes, a date.” She tried not to smile, for this was a very serious matter, but at one point, the mermaid was unable to control the corners of her mouth. It was quick, but not quick enough to go unnoticed. Kyungri cleared her throat and was in character again.
“I’ll pick you up from your place and, then, I’ll take you out to dinner. I found a nice place with live music, so I think you’ll like it there. After that, instead of going home, we’ll go for a walk by the river. The weather is nice, and we can stay out for as long as we want.” This time, Kyungri didn’t care whether she was in control of her features. The image in her mind was just too good to be overlooked. “Then, I’ll bring you home before your girlfriend finds out you left.” It sounded like a good deal to her. “What do you say?”
It was so hard to keep a straight face around her. There was something so simply wonderful about being around Kyungri, an easiness to his existance that he felt so rarely around other people. He was utterly content. And so happy, so unapologetically happy. He would play along with her with her without a moments notice.
“Oh, you know my taste,” Jaehwan chirped, leaning in to accent his words with a small kiss against her collarbone, “Music and food and a beautiful, beautiful girl who definitely isn’t my extraordinary girlfriend.” His mind drifted through images of walking along side the river, his hand laced with Kyungri’s. Then it drifted elsewhere.
He looked up at her through his lashes, expression carefully innocent. “It sounds as though my girlfriend won’t be in when we get home. If that’s the case, I don’t know if I want to spend too long by the river. Especially if I have you all to myself.”

Note
Kyungri waited until he was done with the piano. Once that happened, it took her no time to sit next to him on that little bench. Just to make sure she'd not fall, she nudged him aside with her butt, so there was room for two. "Hi," the mermaid smiled. "I hope your girlfriend isn't around because I have a suggestion for you and you only." She leaned closer to him and signalled him to do the same. "Do you want to go on a date tonight?"
@ofpearlsxgods
Jaehwan smiled, the familiar warmth of her pressing against him. His right arm, previously occupied with playing the final notes of a higher melody, instinctively dropped to curl about her waist. He was gentle, almost coaxing her along the bench. He'd have no falling from this bench happening on his watch.
"Hi," he said, his smile instantly matching Kyungri's. He was an utter fool for her, he knew it, but what else was there to do? If he was going to be a hopeless case, he was damn well always going to embrace it. And her for that matter. "You know, you just missed her. So we'll have to be quiet lest you incur her wrath." He lowered his head towards her, a quick glance left, then right, as though making sure the coast was clear. A low chord hung in the air about them, soft and major in key, the music now truly forgotten.
"A date? I'll have to make sure my schedule is free." She breathes in with a little frown, enjoying playing with her. "What do you have in mind?"

[ How to start again?
I really don’t know. I want to write so badly but its almost like I’ve forgotten how to rp ^^ I’d love new interactions. Small paras. Random new relationships for my muses. But I really don’t want to just end up writing for a few days and disappearing again. Has anyone else ever felt a similar way? I really don’t know what to do. I just *makes vague grabby hands at my muses* want to write! GAH~ ]

— Focus.
He has fallen out of practise.
The lines fall sporadically at first, jutting out at awkward angles, unchecked and barely formed. He has to concentrate for once. It’s a rare feeling now, for even though he loves the ease with which sketches seem to pour from his fingers through pencil onto a page, it has become habit. His mind is so focused on the human form that he cannot tear himself away from it. He sees curves in the trees where there is none. He catches blades of grass take on the shape of fingers, watches the slope of a neckline appear on the horizon. And it’s bizarre. He knows that. At first it irritates him. He’s better than this. He also knows that.
Yet Jung Leo has never really been one for putting faith in himself. How can he when so much of his past is something he desperately wants to bury? In some ways, he cannot bury that past without burying pieces of himself. That person that that once became obsessed with drawing hands, seeing red against the stark white colour they took on from the paper...
He shakes his head, tearing the sheet from his sketchbook and jamming it into his pocket. He’s off track. Again. Focus. You can do that much. He squints into the distance, the dusty glow of Seoul in the early evening fading from his view until its just what he can see through the paper, his touch now his sight.
This. This is what he misses. Having time to be absorbed into the page, nothing else a concern. It isn’t as though he cannot do it anymore. He just simply never has a reason to. Once, disappearing into his work was a preference. It overcame him and he ceased to be, giving way to ideas and beauty and creation. He could capture things that way. Whatever he put on paper would no escape. But he could.
Now, it is not a desperate clawing to disappear from his own mind. It’s an extension of him. Of the love he’s received and continues to collect, bouquets of it carried in his arms, blooming by the day rather than withering. People search him out for the way he can drape a dress over a form and have it become the person it is for. He comes home to laughter in abundance and wakes to sunlight.
And yet... and yet...
It is still there. It always will be. In thread stretches thinner by the day but that can only mean it is closer to breaking.
He could have sworn he saw her the other day. Not the one he stole, but the one who left. Taejin.
Leo looks down and, startled from his reverie, realises that she is there amongst the charcoal grey trees. Perhaps they always will be.
