Oh, I really like this. The Wilders are supposed to be peaceful Ya*. It's the Maulers who are supposed the ones who are antagonistic towards Lightbearers.

However, AFK Arena has been out for years and has lately been subverting its own basic lore. If you read Oku's and Eorin's lore, you'll see that their animosity towards Lightbearers is justifiable.

* Ya are the chimeric beings (often just barely animal-like) in Esperia. They have Orc-ish origins in that mortal mages tried their own hand at divine creation, but they could not create, only modify. This was long before the war between Dura and Annih.

At some point, they were forced out of the empire and exiled into the desert. Here, they developed a society dependent on war to ensure their own survival. But a significant number of them longed for a more peaceful life and fled into the Dark Forest.

So... Lorsan is battle ready. But like General Hogan, he's exclusive to specific story events. This area was filled with characters locked into your battle formation and keeping me from using my own copies of heroes such as Lyca and Eironn.

It doesn't seem too difficult for the game to lock you out of using Lorsan for certain story events. Honestly, I was really surprised that game decided to prioritize Florabella over Lorsan in who we get to recruit first.

Then again, Florabella does have a better battle gimmick. Her three summons are really useful. From what I could notice in Lorsan's fight, he seems like he's not much different from Hammie.

I do actually use Chippy and Hammie a lot because I'm not trying to push too hard, and I like using characters that would be available to me as I progressed the story, like in traditional JRPGs. So, while Lorsan may not be a good recruit for competitive whales, he would improve my game play experience.

I'm sorry, by why isn't Lorsan available at release?

I thought he was going to be a short cameo character, but no... he absolutely steals the show. I was already very fond of him in the base game, but I adore him in Journey. It's admittedly very different from the monk-like reading I got from the base game's lore, but I'm open to believing that I may have misjudged his personality.

He's still nomadic, attuned with nature, and gives praise to Wilder deities, and sometimes a bit unfamiliar with Lightbearer customs, but I'm surprised that he's a bit cocky. However, this makes some sense since he was a gifted child in base game lore. He and his sister are supposed to be very charming and can befriend just about anyone. (In Arena's lore, Lorsan would chastise the dunkard, Rigby. As much as Rigby wanted to punch him for it, he lost all willpower when he looked at Lorsan's innocent face.)

So far, he seems to be lacking the trait of being a people pleaser who puts the feelings of others before his own. (Like, remember the comic where the guy shrugs off his bike being stolen because maybe the thief needed it more? That's how Lorsan is supposed to react to personal misfortune.) However, Lorsan did latch very quickly onto our protagonist as soon as he came to understand that someone is causing misfortune to befall others.

Speaking of him latching on to the protagonist, his sprite will start following the player, and he has a great idle animation where he plays with the orb in his staff. It's so well done for what is currently just a quest event character.

Poor Lorsan! This was not how I expected to encounter him in Journey.

The poor thing even just cowers during the fight.

I do hope him already having a sprite means we get to summon him in the game soon enough. He's a fan favorite, and his sister is already available.
