have...have i been pronouncing chimera wrong my entire life???

i always said kuh-mare-uh but when I watched Dungeon Meshi, they say kai-mare-uh. So then I looked it up and...

Yep. I have been consistently saying it wrong and nobody ever said anything ever. You have to understand, I was a Greek mythology and monster NERD when I was younger, the word chimera did in fact come up in day to day conversations. And people really let me walk around saying it wrong.

I've been known to pronounce things completely off bc I usually read the word first and then say it. I know this isn't true for all people who learned multiple languages at once, but I learned two languages with the same alphabet as a child and it skewed my pronunciation of words I see before hearing. It varies wildly depending on if my brain wants to pronounce it how the French might say it, or how North American English speakers might say it. And then sometimes my brain mashes the two together and I come up with horrifying abomination of the two languages and word that nobody knows until I spell it out.

...i have to say though, I prefer how I said chimera to how it's actually said.

Funniest thing to happen in the anime was definitely when Kabru asked Laios if he remembered his name. Why? Because nobody told him Kabru's name! Kabru introduces himself with a simple "hey, you must Laios! great to meet you!" and then never actually says his name.

I dunno if Laios' VA did this on purpose, but when Laios responds to Kabru by saying he remembers he sounds so goddamn confused and it makes me think he was like "oh shit i don't know his name when did i learn his name shit shit shit i'll just pretend i know it!!!"

Gold. Kabru is so funny when it comes to Laios like holy shit. He was so busy giving him bedroom eyes when he first officially said hi to Laios that he completely forgot to tell him his name. No notes, A+ work.
