AR Catch-up part 3

The quality of the final result in my opinion could have been better, such as the size of the character, the position or pose he is in, better designing the character, shading, and the colouring... However I like the propaganda colours black, red and white but at the design phase I wasn't sure if I should back the character's black and white with shading but I think the decision I made turned out fine, I wanted the character to have a bigger better design so I could fit more detail ontop of it.

If compared to working on digital or physical paper I would say it turned out better on paper due to it being much more detailed. If I had used digital designs It would have turned out much more sketchy and unrefined, however if done right the design could be done more smoothly and look more even.

I believe I have met the requirements for the brief by making a poster that would go inside the SS Voyagers streets to heighten morale for the surviving humanity.

AR Catch-up part 2

The desired aim of my project was to create a propaganda poster for the people who lived on my ark which I have named the SS Voyager, I decided to draw the design on paper rather than digitally designed, and the import the image of the artwork into photoshop and adjust the picture on Photoshop to make the image more aesthetically pleasing and more fitting for a SCI FI theme, I drew the project rather than doing it digitally because it was more quicker than using Photoshop or cinema 4D and i'am not as skilled on either of the software so I could get more detail by using pen and pencil.

I wanted to create a propaganda poster of two astronauts promoting open spaces on jobs aboard the Voyager, my original inspiration was astronauts, German propaganda posters and using the film JoJo rabbits promotion art, I used the three colours in the poster black for the frame, white for the area around the frame and an inner red display.

After the design and colouring had been completed I imported into photoshop and began editing, first I added a folded pattern from Google on top of the artwork and decreased the fill and opacity of the image so it matches the posters, and finally I added an effect on top of the poster for aesthetics.

The intended art direction I had in mind was to have one astronaut to the left side of the poster big, wide and detailed with a single inspirational text next to it saying something like 'fight for the sector' I also wanted the text to be larger and fill most of the page, I also wanted the final effect to be more brown and rusty, decay representing how long the SS Voyager has been around. Instead of all this I chose to have two characters each with their own theme of the military and farming, the text is smaller because I thought I would add more designs below it and the final effect has changed to inverted colours because I like the suggestion that humans had been living in the dark for sooo long that there vision of colours had changed so they had to move there own colours around so that it would make more sense and be easier to read, in conclusion I think I should have kept the idea of having a large astronauts face to the side with big bold text but i'am pleased with the final inverted colours result.

AR Catch-up

Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated content. This experience is seamlessly interwoven with the physical world such that it is perceived as an immersive aspect of the real environment. In this way, augmented reality alters one's ongoing perception of a real-world environment, whereas virtual reality completely replaces the user's real-world environment with a simulated one.

Augmented reality is largely synonymous with mixed reality. There is also overlap in terminology with extended reality and computer-mediated reality.

Stranger things

- (The link on Google classroom doesn't work) The AR filter that appears on Snapchat or Instagram is of the stranger things Demogorgon face, there is an atmospheric mist effect that plays when you use the filter, and sometimes when you open your mouth or do some trick to activate the function, the attached AR face will open up and proceed to spit out more effects on the phone screen.

Update on Grendel the beast, he has now had a coat of paint added to him by Kyrstie, the desired colour before was a base coat of black and grey in highlighted points on the muscle with light brush marks of white and light grey, the new colour that Kyrstie has applied is now Pearlescent red and black , giving it an overall glossy affect, also there are now randomly placed panels placed around the body which gives it a look that the beasts skin is falling apart, which isn't a bad look but I would have preferred if the the panel's were primarily placed on the back where the houses would sit upon, and the the shoulder arm were more houses or the command centre would possibly go.

The panels themselves are very well painted giving it a rusty metal look which is nice but to make them better I would've recommended that parts of the side were missing or rusted away to give a decaying effect.

And finally the helmet plate that goes on the face, it again is not what I would have desired for the face but I understand that communication between myself and the students + Kyrstie can sometimes be difficult to express, the outcome is fine as it is however if it were in my hands I would have preferred it if the face plate bended around the face in three parts and curving around the forehead to meat the base of the nape with a muzzle of sorts going through the beasts mouth and leading up to the ears of the helmet. (Also the human ears on Grendel look out of place so I think it would have made sense to give it more goblin ears or no ears at all) However the one thing I like with the beast's independent update, is the slobber or spit dripping from the mouth.

In this lesson I also made four teeth, two big, two small, made from super sculpy and edged into to give a decaying effect at the base of each tooth, and painting added more to that effect going in layers of light yellow to dark yellow at the base, however in the base of the tooth it slightly looks like an onion so in the future those lines need to be more smoothened out.

Took a picture of the Propaganda poster once it had been brushed up (flicks of blood or juice on the picture) then scanned it and sent it over via email to the school Mac computers. Opened it up onto photoshop and added a folded paper pattern on top then lowered the opacity so that the paper pattern would show through so it would make the poster look more authentic, I then I inverted the colours for a cooler effect and fiddled around with the full of the poster.

I then exported the file into World Cast and added Donald trump's make America great again the MP3 file off to the side because they didn't have the American national anthem.

Started the design of the space marines and a farmer on the side, sketched out the design of the space marine and went over the rough sketches with a fine liner, same thing for the farmer, the design was inspired off of radioactive protection suits that they would've used at Chernobyl, combined with a space suit, mixed in with a 1950s theme.

I think I should have made the right space marine bigger, that way I could add more finer details for effect, and have it in a better pose on the left.

Colouring came next so I used my alcohol markers to colour the suits in a bright-ish colour going with their occupations, also the time period when the suits were made would have had bright exploding colours.

Before the lesson, Kyrstie kindly attached a bunch of strips of something that activates in water, she has also added a monkey head with very big eyebrows, also the position of the head facing down I would have changed, from the position you can't see the expression or the detail of the face.

In this lesson me and Anthony started smudging on a light amount of clay because if we added too much the weight would offset the balance, once we had a base of clay I started adding strands of clay onto major muscle points such as thighs and back muscles, pushing the clay with my fingers tips into the other strands and molding the shape plus smoothening the muscle and skin with water. After the clay had been roughly made, we coated the beast who has now been dubbed Grendel (From Beowulf) in a dark gray and then after a light spray of white or light grey spray paint for hair, there are also panels that were made from my fellow students, attached to the back of Grendel for a straighter base for our model house's.

Updating the beast, added a base to the beast so it can be supported better, me and Anthony used copper wiring to wrap the peg leg arm around the bottom base, then for the rest of the supports we drilled holes into the base and fed through the pre existing wires in the feet and the hand into the holes and tied them so the beast wouldn't move about...

The next phase which was the most painful and time consuming was me and Anthony hot glueing scraps of cardboard that we had previously cut up, to the beast's frame so that later it is easier to attach the Mod clay, this was an effort starting off with each leg and working our way up around the body, but when I got to the right arm (which had been cut up by Kyrstie for reasons that had to do with keeping it all on the base, but the job could have been better because the bicep was basically non existent and the wiring was all over the place) there was no place to better attach the cardboard so I had to build around the spiky wires which made the shoulder massive and made the monster look like it had a T rex arm.

What is persistence of vision?

In my Mac Room lesson I've decided to make a propaganda moral poster for the SS voyager, the cosmic sailor of the galaxy, drifting endlessly alone for eternity in search of a new world to call home, basically planning to make my design like a 1945 German poster, with the red, black and white and have some big bold fancy text that says "STRONGER TOGETHER" I would imagine on my vessel that the moral is low and people are sick of the same food for the poor (This would be easy growing food such as Carrot's, potatoes, bugs and mushroom's) this would be like the movie snow piercer but in space...

On my poster there will be a retro looking astronaut worker looking out in the sunset, the poster will be asking for workers around the ship, such as sewage maintenance, solar panel maintenance, farming, interior police or a soldier for the US side of the ship.

Ship separated into the rich and poor, rich eating more rare foods such as beef, chicken, salmon and fruits.

Finishing off the copper frame fro the beast, the new desired approach for the beast is to have it falling with houses at an angle, so that meant snapping off one of the leg supports and bending it into a falling position with the arm up to stabilise itself, the problem I had again with the structure is that it was very large to rotate into place when spot welding, it would've helped more if there was a way of better holding the beast such as another person holding it.

Also made the arm like a peg leg because it is way easier to make than the other arm, plus it adds story to the beast like he has been in some big fight with another creature.

The paint on the first and second models buildings are too strong, they would look fake if you saw them on the street, and the colours used, usual houses have bland colours but these make it look like it's from 1950s America, although in the second image it would look like it could fit because of the dry brushing mud marks that are on the side of the buildings.

Typically, the procedure is to first raise the building, which is then pushed onto temporary rails or dollies. An alternative is to use flatbed trucks. There are a number of professional moving companies that are able to give you the best advice on this process... This relates to our project through the beast that's carrying all of our houses on its back, this also links to Howls moving castle, a film by studio Ghibli's

In the film the house was created through Howl's magic combined with the demon Calsifers strange star magic, it's a bunch of scrap from war ships to regular houses mashed together into a walking mess of a mansion with a mouth and snail like eye's. Another reference to moving cities is mortal engine's.

A bunch of cities on wheels that drive about meeting up with other moving settlement's for trade, traction Cities are vast metropolises built on tiers that move on gigantic wheels or caterpillar tracks. These cities hunt smaller cities (in order to tear them apart for resources and fuel) which in turn hunt towns which in turn hunt villages and static settlements... These two themes differ from ours in the fact is it doesn't move from fuel or magic but moves on its own will and is fuelled by other roaming beast's so it can keep moving to safer area's for the benefit of the humans on its back.

He builds this moving castle from scratch using scrap from around his house, packaging such as bottles were used as the cylinder's, and for the finer details he sometimes kitbashed pieces together to get a small house or anchor, one of his techniques for brick walls was to lay out a bit of super sculpy or something similar and create texture rolling pin from which he can roll on the texture of his wall onto the super sculpy, making the process ten times easier.

The cost of high density foam... The cost of high density foam can range from 0.8 pcf to 6pcf which depending on the pcf can make a product more expensive (Pounds per cubic foot) for example on Amazon for a couple of thin planks of it can range from £7 to £20 or higher (depending on the quality) which is decent pricing for it however you could run out fairly quickly so repeatedly buying this product could be problem for your bank account. You could also get softer foam that could be used for something that's supposed to be spongy in a model like a cloud and you can also get floor foam which is commonly used for cosplay and larger models due to its fairly high durability and flexibility.

MARS DAWN RESEARCH...

2012s ark, they resemble the style of a cruise ship that is designed to combat the harsh icey waters of Antarctica or any cold sea climate, it's got a sci-fi theme to it as well looks like a ship off of Star Citizen. (A video game about space)

The USSCS Alien Covenant ship was designed to fit 2000 colonists and 1,140 embryos, the purpose of that vessel was to scout out new planets to call home

Two by two animation style is has low quality animated characters and is very childlike in its animation, but that's the intended style so I can let that go, but the animals themselves are quick and have a slight cartoonist style to them.

Catastrophes...

The moon makes are planet more liveable by maintaining our planets wobble on its axis which leads to a more stable climate, it also causes tide's by leading it using it's gravity. The moon supports the wobble of the earth using it's gravity to stabilise the Earth in its orbit.

Unreal and real animals...

Examples of real and real animals are the chigeon or pickons (chicken and a pigeon) it was believed that seeing this animal back in the day would have meant u lost Ur sight, Beefalo (cow and a bison) a big fluffy cow designed to survive cold climates and bred to have better quality meat, and Lygers or leopon (Lion and leopard) these creatures are rare and can only be artificially bred, they have the usual characteristics of a lion's mane mixed with the spotted pattern of a leopard.

Behemoth... A behemoth is referred to as being a big unstoppable force of God's chaos and usually takes the form of something big scary and with horns. In the Bible Behemoth, in the Old Testament is a powerful, grass-eating animal whose “bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron” (Job 40:18). Among various Jewish legends, one relates that the righteous will witness a spectacular battle between Behemoth and Leviathan in the messianic era and later feast upon their flesh.

The Tundra...

Tundra is the coldest of all the biomes. Tundra comes from the Finnish word tunturi, meaning treeless plain. It is noted for its frost-molded landscapes, extremely low temperatures, little precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons. Dead organic material functions as a nutrient pool.

Apocalyptic landscape art

Bottomland...Flat land along a river, lying a few feet above normal high water, often consisting of alluvial deposits and naturally fertile. It's very ideal for plant life growth since it has most things needed for flora to grow and other creatures to prosper.

THE DARK CRYSTAL...

The dark crystal is a fictional Jim Henson film, "on a fictional planet, the damaged Dark Crystal marks the onset of the age of chaos. If the crystal is not healed during the great conjunction of the three suns, the evil Skekses will rule forever"

"The Gelfling are a race of elf-like creatures native to the planet of Thra. The term Gelfling derives from the term "Ghel-lflainngk" roughly translates to "those who live without knowledge of the future," according to The World of the Dark Crystal documentary." In the film the Gelfling is a boy who is accompanied by another Gelfling with wings so that they could put back the shard of the dark crystal.

"The Skeksis are a fictional species that serves as the main antagonists in the 1982 film The Dark Crystal and its related franchise. The word "Skeksis" serves as both singular and plural form for this species, with the singular being pronounced and the plural." The skeksis themselves are the rulers of the world Thra in the film and take on the appearance of a big ugly bird most time's, they guard the dark crystal and in the film are greedy, disloyal and basically just bad.

"The urRu, more commonly known as Mystics, were a race of natural wizards that lived during the Age of Division. Like the Skeksis, they were offshoots of the urSkeks, personifying their wisdom and spirituality, but lacking their passion and innovation." The mystics were the literal opposite of the skeksis having a more clean and docile look to them, and In the end of the film the two join together Into a type of tree alien.

Brian Froud art...

His work consists of mystical tree people, that also have fairies, goblins, gremlins and dwarfs, basically a bunch of creatures that would look like they could be from the medieval period.

Extension project to make a big monster to put all the model house's onto. Inspiration for project was a gorilla and the back legs of a hound, main focus was to get that prime stance from the gorilla straight back posture up to make it look proud and respected in this post apocalyptic new world, the face for the creature would have to look more noble than scary so it could link to it's kinder nature which would also link to the story, that being the beast let a few humans build upon it's back to survive.

The beast would have a large armature wire structure connecting into its wooden base so when the clay and cardboard is added it won't bend to the ground so reinforced triangle shaped supports will be utilized into its frame... A main problem I had when spot welding the beast was getting the right angle to spot weld it together because the reinforcements got in the way, and the weight of it combined with it's huge structure was frustrating to deal with so in the future I might have to prop up a chair to support it.

Drew out two characters for my tom and jerry like animation, Bennet a playful bubbly Bee, and Wik an annoyed bugged Wasp.

I got my design inspiration from the characters in cup head, with the shoes, smile, eyes and the hands. My "Good" character is shorter but would have a more freakishly fast cartoons animation whereas the bad character will be more mundane and slow when unprovoked...

The story for my short animation is that Bubbly Bennett walks up to Wik playfully and wacks him on the head with a baseball bat he gets from his pocket, then in return Will chases Bennett then cut.
