TASK 012 // SUPPORT PLANS
Maverick will support the tributes from Seven, as always, but he may also find himself tempted to throw some support towards Vix. Her story has touched him and he feels some connection to her for whatever reason.

Vix laughed through the leftover tears and shook her head. “I kind of wish it wasn’t true” she admitted, not that she’d ever wish a world where her daughter didn’t exist, but without her, if she didn’t get out, maybe it would be better. “Have you ever been to six?”
Maverick shook his head. “Not yet,” he said. “If reports are true, it’s basically just one big train yard, right?” A light joke, if a cliche and easy one, trying to lighten the mood. But then he couldn’t help but add, “You know, if you... if you wanted me to check on her—if anything happens...” He hated to bring it up but he knew it would be on his mind if he were her.

Mav loved to workout. He’d been raised in the halls of the Career Academy, after all, and as disillusioned as he was with that particular space now, his body still craved the movement and focus that exercise brought. Even after being shot in the rebellion, the horrors he’d gone through when captured — even though exercise now hurt if he pushed his body too far, knowing that someday he could push it beyond repair — he had to make time for movement in every day.
“Mind company?” he asked Albany, approaching his mat.

It was impossible to find a time to use the training room alone. Between trainers, Avoxes, and other staff, the room was always in use - especially since Mentors tried to avoid being there when Tributes were around. Today was no different, but Albany had been keeping a close eye for when it would be the emptiest.
Benny had not grown up working out - his job in the lumberyards had always kept his body in the shape it needed to be. However, since returning from his Games, he recognized not only that crafting his physique was useful to securing Sponsorships, but that it also helped put his mind at ease. The repetitions, the goals, the increasing weight - all of it helped stave off the reminders of being in the room ten years ago under very different circumstances.
He had a plan - get in, do his workout, get out before anyone too obnoxious caught sight of him. Of course, it wasn’t perfect, and Benny was wont to overdo his exercise, given the catharsis it brought him.

She took it, nodding a low thanks before she lit the cigarette up, taking a deep drag and letting her thoughts wash away, if only for a moment before they all came flooding back. “Yeah— if you didn’t pick up on the terrible acting, I hated every second of that” she clarified, because Maverick came across as someone she could trust, and really, what would it hurt anyway?
"Oh come on, it wasn’t that bad,” he said. “I’ve definitely seen worse. And the acting doesn’t matter, the truth is what matters. You were telling the truth, right? If not, that’s kinda genius and fucked up.”

“So, like a five - that’s not like a total fucking death sentence or anything?” Hazel asked, her face contorting into an absolutely puzzled expression. She sighed, offering a shrug that nearly touched her ears, “I don’t know, I mean like - I mean comparatively I’m not totally freaking out losing my mind. I’m not actually like, that scared of the Games, I’m more scared of the schmoozing thing, dude.”
“Not a death sentence,” he told her, and held his tongue before saying that Holland had gotten a five. Instead, he said, “Hunter Twill got a five.” He tilted his head a bit. “Well, the good news is that the schmoozing is over in less than five minutes, then it’s back to the Games. People liked Aspen; you can talk about her. Do you feel prepared for that?”

vix-holt:
Vix had been crying. She hadn’t even heard the footsteps of anybody else until it was too late, so she was left turning her head away quickly, wiping the stray tears from her chin with the back of her hand and she knew he’d know.
It was overwhelming, the interview, talking about her daughter in front of the large crowd, knowing Sam might see it back home, and it’s not that she hadn’t been thinking about the baby every second of every day anyway, but talking about her just made it all so real, and she couldn’t stop crying now, crying about the high possibility of never seeing her again.
“Have you got a spare?” She asked, her throat dry as she nodded to his cigarette. She smoked her way through her only pack on day one.
He didn’t say anything about the fact that she’d clearly been crying. Hell, if he were in her position, he’d be crying, too. “Yeah, of course.” He pulled one from the pack and handed it over, followed by the lighter. “I uh, I watched your interview, it was... I mean. I’m fucking sorry, basically. This is shit.” He couldn’t help but think of the baby at home now when he looked at her, and the way she’d spoken of her was moving. There just wasn’t a single thing anyone could do to help, though, except hope that Six’s team pulled it through.

TASK 010 // NATURAL PHENOMENA
Tree
Tree's are really phenomenal! You are the ones who exhale life and kindness. You give and you give and you give. Unfortunately because of this, some underestimate you and use your generous spirit to their advantage :( but don't worry there will always be tree-huggers to offer you a hand or a twig <3 plus you always look good, winter or summer.

The interviews were over, the lights had gone down on the stage, his own tributes were, as far as he know, tucked away on the seventh floor. It was time for a smoke, or two, or maybe three — even if Alder would get mad if he came back smelling like an ashtray. The night before the Games was always fucking tough, though.
He sat down on a bench on the roof, already a lit cigarette between his lips, and glanced over to the next bench to see a familiar figure. “So we meet again,” he said, nodding towards Vix.

gatlin-hazer:
Gatlin nodded passively, “I’m sure sometimes it does.” He couldn’t imagine how it would ever work out that two people could enter the Games together, and definitely wouldn’t say it had worked out for him, but he wasn’t there to pick fights. “My one tribute is my sister, so I think that pretty much tells you how things are goin’,” Gatlin shrugged as if to say they weren’t going well, to say he was scared shitless for Summer, to say that things had gone all wrong in so many ways. “Not so sure about the other,” he admitted as he realized he hadn’t even bothered to learn their name and couldn’t bring himself to feel guilty about that.
“Shit, right,” he said. He’d been so focused on his own tributes and the drama surrounding their volunteering and Alder’s Reaping that he had completely forgotten. “You know, I feel like in this case, you don’t have to pretend not to be biased.”

“You didn’t tank it,” Maverick said, trying to be reassuring even if he too wished her score had been higher. “A five is very midfield. You’re not gonna stand out as a target, that’s a good thing. You don’t have to bounce back, really. Just in the interviews, you’ll need to try to catch sponsors’ attention, show them you’re one to watch. You got any ideas?”
“Okay, so I tanked the skills presentation – my b – how do I bounce back from that?” Hazel asked buzzing a sigh through her lips. She needed to become better, but what would work? Hazel had tried everything she knew how to do and faking it until she made it was no longer appearing viable. If she couldn’t get it together, none of this would be worth it anymore.

TASK 005 // THE APPLE DOESN’T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE
Mariana Montana won the Hunger Games, and this defined the rest of both her life and her husband’s life. They both wanted to create a dynasty, but unfortunately, were only able to have one child. This meant that all the pressure to win the Games landed on Maverick’s shoulders, and it created a strained relationship with his parents.
He was raised by nannies who taught him the values he holds dear today, such as kindness, forgiveness, knowing when to be gentle and when to be tough. But his mother taught him grit, strength, ambition; his father taught him desperation, the power of a name. The Montana name, which his father had taken when he’d married his mother, desiring the fame and wealth that came with it.
When his mother died in the fire set by the rebels, he was devastated. His relationship with his father was ruined, as well, and now he hardly ever visits Two. But with more distance from his childhood and parents, he realizes more and more that they had been sculpting him into a Victor or someone whose destiny was to die trying. Now he needs to break out of that mold and become his own person, and it’s something that he can only do by forgetting those relationships and what they taught him.

vix-holt:
“Why seven?” Vix asked. Usually it was the opposite way around, right? People moved up districts, not down.
“The answer’s gonna be very cheesy, so get ready for that,” he warned her before saying, “I fell in love with a guy from Seven. And I don’t know, I kind of got disillusioned with Two. Now it just holds more ghosts than anywhere else, for me.” He hardly even went back.

pepper-it-in:
Maverick was strong, stronger than Pepper and probably stronger than Hazel, but both of them had known when they started training that they weren’t going to gain professional level strength in a year. Instead of pushing back against him, Pepper used the momentum to propel herself down and under the two swords before bringing her own up and into his space, aiming toward for the first part of the body she saw, knowing even a small injury was a big advantage. She’d have to get away from him quickly, but she’d done it before, in training with Hazel, and she’d been successful about half the time.
.
It was a good move, clever since she was using her smaller size and greater agility to her advantage, and he dodged it by jumping backwards, pulling his sword with him. "That’s good,” he said, “really good. You already know the first lesson I was gonna teach you which is don’t fight like you’re big, fight like you’re small.”

It was always interesting to see what new mentors did, what their approaches would be. He was willing to work with just about anyone, and always wanted to form a positive relationship with the other mentors and trainers. “They did, yeah,” he said, “I’m not quite sure why just yet, but... well.” He shrugged a little. “Sometimes it works out, right?” A brief nod towards Gatlin’s own Victory. “How are yours?”
@maverickmontana
“Your tributes volunteered together, right?” Gatlin asked, approaching the trainer. He was trying to size up the tributes from each district, so he might get a better idea of who Summer could work with. He only hoped Maverick couldn’t read the desperation off his face. “They’ve got to be a tight duo to get yourself two volunteers from Seven, huh?”

vix-holt:
“The stark difference between life here and life in six is probably the most jarring” Vix commented. “Where are you from? Not here right?” She wondered, he seemed a little too approachable to be a Capitolite.
“No, not here,” he said quickly, “but don’t worry, I won’t take offense that you thought I might be. I’m from Two actually, but I’ve lived in Seven for awhile now.” And he trained for Seven, he should be focused on Seven’s tributes right now.
