Love Story
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Emily both propose on the same day during your vacation.
Pairing: Emily Prentiss/Reader
Word Count: 1986
Ao3
You closed your eyes, letting the salty ocean air fill your lungs. One arm rested on the balcony railing outside the hotel room you shared with your girlfriend, Emily, who was fast asleep inside.
In the two years you’d been with Emily, this was the first vacation you’d taken together, and you couldn’t resist the idea of watching the sunrise at least once on this trip.
So you’d dragged yourself out of bed, still in your pajamas, and stood at the edge of your balcony, waiting for the initial whispers of sunrise to appear. Emily had never been an early riser, so you knew better than to wake her.
When you opened your eyes, you could faintly spot, where the sky kissed the ocean, hints of orange and yellow. You were so mesmerized by the sight that you didn’t hear your love walking up behind you until she spoke.
“Hey, you,” Emily said, wrapping her arms around your torso and setting her head on your shoulder. “What on Earth are you doing awake at this hour?”
You giggled. “I wanted to watch the sunrise. You can go back inside; I’ll come back to bed after.”
Emily nestled deeper against your shoulder and hummed. “I’m okay right here.”
As profilers with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, time off wasn’t easy to come by—especially for two of you at a time.
Fortunately, the team’s caseload lightened up in time for you to take a week off, right around your second anniversary, and with it being January and miserable in DC, your destination was an easy choice—Hawaii.
Emily, ever the world traveler, knew of an amazing resort on the beach in Oahu, so you left the planning in her hands.
You had your own agenda for this trip. And today was the day.
As the sun rose higher, yellows and oranges won their battle against the dark blue sky, making way for light blues and pinks.
The air was humid, and getting warmer with the sunrise, but you had never felt so content.
“It’s beautiful,” Emily murmured. You nodded in agreement.
You knew after three months of dating that Emily was the person you wanted to spend the rest of your life with. But you only got one chance at a proposal with your dream girl, so planning proved to be more difficult than anticipated. And while you considered your BAU team your family, you knew that if you told any of them, the secret would be out within an hour. So confiding in them was, unfortunately, not an option.
As soon as the trip was booked, you knew this was your opportunity. Buying the ring was easy; you’d both known what you wanted and had openly discussed it almost the entire time you’d been together. Hiding the ring was harder—you had to move it every few days in case Emily decided to snoop.
She always had a sense for secrets and sniffing them out.
You blamed yourself for falling in love with a profiler.
“What do you want to do today?” Emily unwrapped her arms from you, and as soon as her touch was gone, you missed it. She took her place next to you, leaning against the balcony railing.
With vacations being so rare for you both, you’d decided together that you didn’t want to plan too much and overbook yourselves. Instead, you made a few dinner reservations and left it at that.
“Seems like a good day for the beach,” you said, nodding at the so-far empty beach below you. It wouldn’t be that way for long, you knew. But you weren’t in a hurry.
“Whatever you want,” Emily smiled. “But first… back to bed?”
You took your girlfriend’s hand with a smile of your own. “Whatever you want.”
***
Some time later, you and Emily were perched in lounge chairs on the beach. At first, you weren’t sure if you remembered how to relax, but laying back on a chaise in your favorite swimsuit next to your favorite person in the world—you remembered.
Your only request when Emily planned this trip was that one of your dinner reservations was on your second night. The first night you knew you’d be too tired from the travel, but you wanted to propose at the beginning of your trip so you could spend the rest of your time off celebrating.
But the more time you spent on the beach, the more you started to look at your phone, wondering how early was too early to start getting ready. You wanted to look nice but not so nice that you’d make Emily suspicious, and finding that balance wasn’t going to be a short endeavor.
You opened your mouth to ask what time your reservation was—even though you’d engrained the time in your memory—when Emily spoke up first.
“We should head back soon if we want to make our reservation,” she paused. “If that’s alright.”
“Is it that time already?” you asked, forcing nonchalance in your voice. To aid in your ruse, you glanced at your phone for the tenth time in the last half hour. “Yeah, let’s head back.”
You tossed your towel around your waist and headed back to the room in a comfortable silence.
Your hair took longer than Emily’s to style, so you mutually agreed to let you shower first—fighting the urge to ask Emily to just shower with you, but you couldn’t afford the time you would lose—and took the time to run through what you wanted to say when you proposed.
Your reservation was early enough that you hoped to walk back on the beach during sunset, and that’s when you would get on one knee and ask her to be your wife.
It would be perfect; you were confident.
***
You paused in front of the full-length mirror, appraising yourself. Your hair was curled and half-up—the beach was windy earlier, and you didn’t want to be eating your hair when you proposed. Your makeup was light, and you’d decided on a black romper. You’d packed a few sun dresses just in case, but you didn’t want to flash anyone when you got on one knee.
How did people do this? Your palms sweat just thinking about what was coming.
Across your body, you had a simple black bag, just big enough for your phone, wallet, and ring case.
As soon as you’d dressed, you’d thrown the bag over your shoulder and kept it close. The last thing you needed was Emily throwing her phone in your purse—something she often did, as she didn’t usually like to carry her own bag—and stumbling across the ring box.
But when your beautiful girlfriend stepped out of the bathroom—her raven hair curled and bangs perfectly styled, dressed in a skin-tight red dress that took your breath away—she had a similar black cross-body slung over her own shoulder.
In hindsight, that should’ve been the first clue of many. But you were too preoccupied with your own secret to pick up on hers.
“Stunning,” you breathed, leaning forward to kiss your love.
“I know you are,” her mouth smiling against your own, “but how do I look?”
You giggled, heart bursting. It took all of your willpower to not take out the ring box right then and get this whole thing over with.
But she deserved a proposal more special than one in a hotel room, so you bit your tongue.
“Ready to go?”
She nodded. “Ready when you are.”
You laced your fingers through hers and followed her out of the room and through the hotel’s doors.
“I thought we’d walk, take the scenic route, since we have some time,” Emily said. “The beach will take us right to the restaurant.”
Your heart skipped a beat. If you took the beach on the way there, would she think twice about you requesting the same on the way home?
No, you thought. What she’ll find weird is if you say no right now.
So you swallowed your panic and pressed a smile across your features. “Whatever you want, love.”
She squeezed your hand and took the lead.
“Are you having a nice time?” Emily asked. You weren’t sure if you were just projecting your feelings onto her, but did she sound… nervous?
“I could stay here forever,” you answered. “I don’t know how we can go back to winter in DC after this.”
“You’ll be ready to get back to work by the time vacation is over,” she said with a wink. “I know you too well.”
“Hmm, I don’t know,” you sang. “I think I could stay here forever with you and be perfectly happy.”
“Don’t tempt me.”
You opened your mouth to suggest honeymooning here, but caught yourself before you gave yourself away completely.
Instead, you turned to stare out at the water. “It’s a beautiful view.”
Your walking slowed before coming to a halt, both of you admiring the crashing waves lapping not far from your feet.
“It is,” she said.
You turned to find her eyes boring into yours and flushed.
“The two years I’ve spent with you have been the happiest of my life,” Emily said with a sincerity that stilled you. “I never knew I could love somebody this much until I met you.”
Tears prickled at the corners of your eyes. Emily released your hand, and you contemplated reaching for your purse. Was this the moment you’d been waiting for?
“I feel the same way,” you said, fighting the lump in your throat.
“I’m not always the most eloquent with words,” she admitted, patting at a stray tear in her eye. You chuckled, thinking of the times she couldn’t place what she wanted to say and started mumbling in other languages until she figured it out. “But I need you to know that you’re my everything. My love, mi amor, mon amour, amore mio, moya lyubov…”
She trailed off, reaching into her cross-body and pulled out something she concealed in her hands. You frowned.
“I know you love it when I speak French,” she said with a mischievous grin, kneeling down before you, on two knees instead of one, due to the dress she wore. “So, Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N, veux-tu m'épouser?”
You froze. You knew what that sentence meant—it was one you’d looked up online and practiced relentlessly in the mirror to get your pronunciation just right for your proposal, as you knew French was her favorite language.
When you didn’t answer, she translated, “Will you marry me?”
Tears poured from your eyes. When you opened your mouth to answer, a laugh bubbled up instead.
Now it was Emily’s turn to frown. “Love?”
Once you started, it was impossible to stop. You fell to your own knees in front of her, laughing and crying in equal measure. Her eyebrows furrowed in concern, but you held up a hand.
“You had to beat me to the punch, didn’t you?”
“I don’t understand…” she said.
You reached into your bag, procuring your ring box, clearing the tears from your face with your free hand. The rest of your speech was moot now, but you couldn’t let the French you learned go to waste.
“Emily Elizabeth Prentiss, je t'aime de tout mon cœur, et pour toujours. Veux-tu m'épouser?”
Emily gaped, glancing from you and the ring in your hand to the ring in hers. In the blink of an eye, her own face was covered with tears.
“Yes,” she gasped.
“Me too,” you whispered.
You exchanged rings, not even taking a moment to admire the fact that, of course, she got you the exact ring you wanted, before throwing your arms around your fiancee and pressing your lips to hers.
When you finally pulled away, you couldn’t wipe the smile from your face.
“We’re not making our dinner reservation, are we?”
“God, I hope not,” she breathed before pulling you in again.

Love Story Part Two
Tumblr media
PART ONE
Note: Thank you to the kind anon who suggested this; I had so much fun writing it! I hope you enjoy!
Summary: Follow-up to “Love Story,” in which you and Emily tell the team you’re engaged.
Pairing: Emily Prentiss/Reader
Word Count: 1214
Ao3
Your first day back at the BAU, you and Emily wore matching black pantsuits. The only differences in your outfits were the blouses you wore underneath—Emily wore purple, and you wore red.
It hadn’t been intentional, but when you came out of the bathroom to find Emily in a variation of the outfit you had put on, you both laughed and decided to embrace it.
“Rings on or off?” you asked, admiring the sparkling band around your finger.
“On, but be subtle about it,” she winked. “Stick to the plan.”
Like so many things, your fiancee was right when she said you’d miss work by the end of your vacation.
Though seven uninterrupted days with Emily, spent either in your hotel room or on the beach, were utterly blissful, as your trip neared its end, you couldn’t help but wonder what was happening back home. Thinking about all of the people who needed your help.
On the nearly 10-hour flight back to DC, you kept yourselves preoccupied by debating how you’d tell the team about your engagement. Neither of you had told them what you’d planned, and you looked forward to surprising them.
When it came to working with profilers, surprises were difficult to come by.
“Should we see how long it takes them to notice?” you’d giggled. “Just say nothing and wait for them to see the rings?”
Emily smiled. “Tempting, but you know Spence or Pen would sniff them out immediately.”
“Mm, good point,” you conceded.
“I actually have an idea,” Emily said, wagging her eyebrows mischievously.
You leaned forward in your seat to grab her hand, “Tell me.”
“What are you thinking about?” Em asked, pulling you out of your memories.
“You,” you said, pecking a kiss against her lips. “Ready?”
Emily offered you your briefcase, holding hers in her other hand. “Don’t forget your prop.”
“Never,” you said, taking the accessory from your fiancee.
The drive to the BAU was shorter than you remembered. You were excited to reunite with your friends and tell them about your trip. Neither you nor Emily were particularly close with your families, so telling the team—your chosen family—would make the engagement feel real.
You held hands on the elevator ride to the sixth floor—your legs shook with excitement and anticipation, but holding on to your fiancee kept you steady.
When the doors parted, you half-expected to find the team waiting for you on the other side, but you were relieved to find the hallway empty.
A few steps forward revealed the team gathered around Spencer’s desk in the bullpen. You and Emily nodded at each other once, moving your briefcases to your left hands, and walked slowly to join your team.
As you approached, you both slouched to your left side, seemingly struggling with your completely empty briefcases.
Penelope was the first to spot you, grinning as soon as you made eye contact. “You’re back!”
Spencer looked up from the book he was reading and jumped to his feet, JJ standing just over his shoulder. In front of them, Rossi and Morgan turned around to face you.
Morgan, picking up on your strange walking immediately, frowned. “Why are you walking like that?”
Emily stepped in front of you. “Derek, can you help me?”
He jumped forward, reaching for Em’s briefcase, and Rossi reached for yours. You both handed off the bags and shook your shoulders out.
“I’m having a hard time lifting things with this big rock on my hand,” Emily bragged.
Just as you’d practiced, you both held up your left hands, letting the light bounce off the diamonds.
Rossi and Morgan dropped the empty bags, and Penelope was in front of you in the blink of an eye, both of her hands holding yours.
“What?” Penelope screeched at a decibel that seemed high enough to cause hearing damage.
“Surprise, we’re engaged!” You sang.
Hotch, alerted by the sudden screaming, peeked out from his office to find the team talking over each other. Frowning, he jogged down the steps into the bullpen and held up a hand.
“What’d I miss?”
“We’re engaged,” Emily said, grabbing your hand.
Hotch’s lips turned up in a rare smile. “Congratulations!”
“You have to tell us everything,” JJ insisted, taking your hand and dragging you toward the round-table room.
“Give them a chance to sit down,” Hotch called from the back of the pack. Just behind you, Spencer was dragging Emily along, and the rest of the team followed.
You took your usual seats around the round table, noting how rare it was to feel joy within these particular four walls. But you didn’t mind changing the association with the room where you spent so much of your time, and the engagement story spilled out of you, Emily filling in the gaps where her part of the story differed.
“And then Emily got down on her knees and proposed,” you said, smiling at the memory.
“And then, Y/N got down on her knees and proposed,” Emily said, leaning over to kiss your cheek.
“You proposed at the same time?” Spencer asked, glancing between you.
You nodded, and Penelope threw her hands in the air.
“Both of you proposed, and neither of you told me before you left?!”
“Pen, you’re not exactly known for your secret-keeping,” Emily hedged.
“Name one example,” she protested.
“Last month you told Henry what you were getting him for Christmas,” JJ said, crossing her arms over her chest.
Penelope flushed. “I can’t help it; I got too excited!”
That earned a laugh from the room. The group broke off into separate conversations, and JJ pulled you in for another round of questions, when something flashed in the corner of your eye, claiming your attention.
As soon as you turned your head, several of your team members threw their hands under the table, and you frowned.
“What’s going on?” you asked.
“Nothing,” Morgan said a little too quickly.
Emily squinted at the four men—Hotch, Rossi, Morgan, and Spencer—who were doing their best not to return eye contact.
Eventually, as you knew he would, Spencer broke, putting his hands on the table to reveal money in them.
“Fine, we had a bet that you’d come back from your trip engaged,” Spencer said.
“And I won, thank you very much,” Morgan winked, collecting his earnings from the other men.
Your jaw dropped, and you turned your attention to Hotch. “Hotch, you too?”
He shrugged. “It seemed like easy money. But since we all agreed you would come back engaged, the bet came down to which day you’d propose on. Morgan was closest; he guessed day one.”
“I guessed day seven,” Spencer grumbled.
“Day six,” Rossi sighed.
“Day four,” Hotch said.
Emily rolled her eyes, and you threw your hands up in frustration. “Really, guys? Is nothing sacred?”
“We have a second bet going about how long before you get married; you want in?” Spencer asked.
“No!” you said.
But next to you, your fiancee said, “Yeah!” at the same time.
You turned to her with one eyebrow raised.
“Really, Emily?”
“Why not?” She laughed.
“Actually, I’ll take that bet,” JJ said.
“Me too!” Pen added.
The room looked at you expectantly, and you knew that you wouldn’t win this battle, so you sighed.
“Fine, I’m in.”

“i don’t like being told what to do unless i’m naked” with em? 👀
Bossy
Tumblr media
Summary: Emily's been a bitch. You fix her attitude. ;) Warnings: smutty smut smut, my normal tbh. quick and easy, like em Word count: 2.3k A/N: A little short thing to get me back into writing. Thanks Katt for the prompt :)
Emily was pissing you off. Ever since this case crossed JJ’s desk, Emily’s been uptight, more so than usual. You’ve seen her get overly invested in cases before, but something about this one was making her - for lack of a better word - crazy. She was hounding the local police more than normal, squashing peoples’ new ideas and theories before listening, and being short with anyone who tried to talk to her.
She’s snapped at you multiple times today alone, glaring at you anytime you tried to talk about one of your theories. You’d take it personally, but she was acting like this with everyone on the team. It was causing everyone to give her a wide berth, finding excuses to not be in the same room with her.
At the end of the day, Emily had frustrated every member of the BAU (including Penelope who was back in D.C.) and half of the local station to their limits.
And, of course, you were the one who had to room with her this trip. Lucky you.
The ride from the station to the hotel was tense, silence interspersed with the hum of tires on asphalt. The longer the quiet dragged on, the more angry you got at her behavior.
Emily and you had become fast friends when you joined the BAU a few months ago. You had meshed well with every member of the team, but your dark humor and sarcasm bonded you with the raven-haired woman. You’ve spent countless hours with each other, both at work and outside of Quantico.
You felt your phone buzz in your lap.
JJ: You have GOT to talk to her. She’s driving everyone insane!!
You: Why does it have to be me??? It’s bad enough we share a room!
JJ: Because she likes you most!
You: You’ve known her longer!
JJ: Nose goes!
You looked up to see JJ holding her pointer finger on her nose, sticking her tongue out at her. You rolled your eyes at her before typing out another message.
You: Fine! But you owe me coffee and lunch tomorrow!
JJ: Deal! Just make her Emily again!
You locked your phone, glancing up at Emily driving. Her jaw was tense, as if she was grinding her teeth. Both of her hands were white knuckled on the steering wheel. You bit your lip, trying to think of a way to bring up her behavior over the last few days.
***
Entering your shared room, Emily started pacing in front of the beds, her lower lip caught between her teeth, her hands fidgeting.
You sighed. “Em, are you okay?”
Her eyes shot to you. “I’m fine,” she gritted out.
You rolled your eyes exaggeratedly, making sure she saw. “No, you’re not. You’re frustrated about something. And it’s driving everyone crazy. So, again, what’s wrong?”
Emily stopped pacing, glaring at you. “What do you mean it’s driving everyone crazy? I’m fine.”
You huffed, shaking your head. “You’re not. Look at you,” you said, your hand gesturing at her body, every muscle tense, her hands picking at her nails. “You’ve been short with everyone, shutting down theories for stupid reasons. You’ve yelled at every single one of us today and you’ve managed to alienate half of the local cops. Whatever’s wrong needs to stop, Em, I swear, or it’s going to make this case even harder to solve.”
Emily scoffed, not liking being told off. “You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Now it was your turn to gape at the brunette, your eyebrows twisted in annoyed confusion. “Em, I have spent the last few months getting to know you. Late nights in the office, movie nights on our couches, shopping trips. I don’t know what it is about this case that’s getting to you, but it needs to stop. You need to get your head out of your ass, Prentiss, before it causes you to get benched.”
You watched as Emily stomped across the room to you, her nostrils flaring, her eyes darkening in anger. Her fists were clenched at her sides as she angrily whispered, “I don’t like being told what to do unless I’m naked, so you better watch what you say to me.”
Emily had moved closer to you than she ever has before, her outrage and annoyance palpable in the air. You could feel her huffed breaths on your cheek.
You shook your head, chuckling darkly, barely audible. Emily had never intimidated you before and it wasn’t going to start now. “If all you needed to calm down and be yourself again was a good, hard fuck, all you had to do was ask, Em,” you said, smirking as her eyes grew wide.
You watched as she took in a shuttered breath, her throat bobbing from the nervous swallow.
You could see the indecision in her eyes, the want and the nerves. How she wanted it, needed it, but didn’t want to cross that line with you for fear of wrecking your friendship, your work life.
You brought your hand up, pushing some of her hair behind her ear, taking note of the small shiver that ran through her. “Let me help you, Em. We’ll cross tomorrow when it gets here.”
Emily closed her eyes for a second, taking a deep breath. When she opened her eyes, they somehow had gotten darker, her pupils blown. She’d made her decision. “Fuck it out of me, please.”
You tilted your chin up a little, settling into the role Emily needed you to fill. “Strip. Slowly.”
Emily exhaled slowly, her hands grasping at the hem of her shirt, lifting it inch by inch. She watched you, but your eyes never strayed from her face. When she dragged the material over her head, your eyes never left her face. It furthered your in charge position, making Emily’s breath quicken in anticipation.
The brunette slowly dragged her bra straps down her shoulders, slowly exposing her modest chest. It took a lot of self control on your part, but you still refused to look at her body. You could tell that it was starting to get to Emily, but she wasn’t going to say anything, excited to see what you were up to.
As she drug her pants and underwear down her legs and stood back up, you made another few seconds of intense eye contact with her before letting your gaze slowly glide over her body.
You’d be lying if you said you’d never thought about her like this. She was beautiful, striking in a way that made your breath catch the first time you met her. As your relationship with her grew, you were conflicted about thinking of her like this. You’ve come to cherish your connection with her, but you couldn’t help but want more.
You took your time looking her over, trying to memorize every inch of her in case this was the only time you’d be able to see her like this.
Emily’s toes started to dig into the carpet, her anticipation growing to a head, the nerves starting to creep up.
“On the bed, on your back.”
Emily didn’t need a second to think this time, eagerly moving to the mattress and laying herself across it. She settled her head on a pillow in the middle of the bed, awaiting further instructions. It was something that was exhilarating for you, unexpected. You didn’t think she would be this compliant, but you weren’t going to question it.
Your eyes dragged across her body again, watching the way that her skin started to flush at your attention. “You’ve been a bitch the past few days.”
Emily went to open her mouth, to argue.
“No, no. That wasn’t up for debate. You have been. You’ve let this case get to you.” You started to crawl across the bed, your body between her legs. You remained clothed, the fabric of your pants sliding across her bare skin and causing goosebumps to erupt across her skin. You held eye contact, loving the way Emily’s dark eyes seemed to get darker, deeper. You could feel yourself getting lost in them. “I don’t know why, and to be frank, I don’t care.” You let your hands trail across her shins, up to her knees, pushing her legs further apart. You could feel your own heartbeat speeding up, fluttering inside your chest. “I’m going to fuck your attitude out of you and then we’re going to solve this case and go home. Understood?”
Emily swallowed, her head nodding briefly.
“Good,” you said, letting your eyes fall to her bare body. You licked your lips as you looked at her exposed pussy. Through her coarse curls you could tell she was wet, wetter than you expected her to be since you’ve not even touched her yet.
You leaned down, your eyes back on her face as you gently blew across her sodden lower lips. Emily’s eyes closed, her back arching slightly, her hips trying to push further into the sensation. She was sensitive, something you were going to enjoy.
Before her back could make contact with the bed again, your tongue made contact, licking quickly from her entrance to her clit, loving the way her voice got stuck in her throat. You decided you didn’t want to tease her, wanting her to get off and relax. Your tongue made a few more passes up and down, enjoying each sound you could pull from her. When she got used to the movement, her body expecting the up and down licks, you switched to swirls around her clit, sucking lightly, before moving down to her hole, entering her with your tongue.
You paid attention to the sounds she made, the way she whimpered when your tongue made quick circles around her clit, how a moan would get caught deep in her chest every time your tongue entered her. You ate her out passionately, intensely, taking out your frustrations from the past few days on her.
You could tell she was getting close, the way her leg muscles started to tense, how her hands started to fist in the sheet beneath her. With each swipe of your tongue against her, you could feel her get closer and closer to the edge, the both of you desperate to push her over. As she started to moan more often, gaining volume, you reached up your hands, grasping a breast in each. With perfectly timed pinches to her nipples, Emily came undone against your mouth. You continued to lap at her pussy, swallowing down everything she had to give you.
Before her body had a chance to relax, you pushed in two fingers, enjoying the way Emily choked out a harsh gasp at the fast pace you set immediately. “You’ve got one more for me, Em. Give it to me,” you commanded, surprised at the strength of your own voice.
Emily’s bottom lip was caught between her teeth as she struggled to keep up with the thrusting of your fingers. You pushed up her body, using the thumb of your other hand to pull her lip free. “Uh uh, baby. Let me hear those pretty noises.”
Emily whimpered, her eyes catching yours, a million words being shared between you two. Respect, thanks, lust, love.
Your wrist was starting to cramp at the position, but there was no way you were going to stop. Not with the sounds she was making, not with the way that Emily was looking at you. With each thrust in, Emily grunted, with each thrust out, a moan. On one particularly hard thrust, Emily’s back arched, her hands fisting into the shirt on your back. Figuring you had found her sweet spot, you focused there, watching with almost primal glee as her head tossed back in pleasure.
With her throat exposed, your lips made contact to the skin there, kissing and biting at the tender flesh. You trailed your lips up to her ear. “Do you think two orgasms is enough, or should I fuck you into a third?”
Emily’s only response was a garbled moan, her hands trying to scratch at your back through your shirt.
You smirked against her skin. “We’ll see if your cunt can take another one after you cum hard on my fingers.” You curled your fingers at that, feeling the spongy spot inside her that caused her to sob in ecstasy, her legs tightening against your hips. On each thrust you made sure to hit that spot. You moved your head back, wanting to watch her come undone.
You could feel her walls tightening around your fingers, it becoming harder and harder to move within her. You brought your other hand up, wrapping it around her throat, squeezing enough to send a euphoric rush through her.
“Cum for me, Em, now.”
She hadn’t disobeyed you yet.
Emily moaned your name loudly as her walls clamped down on your fingers, forcing you to stay within her as she rode out her orgasm. Her hips undulated against you, riding each wave, reveling in the high.
You worked her through it, easing as her body started to come down. Gently, you removed your fingers, taking satisfaction in the whimper she let out at being empty. You brushed some of her hair out of her face, smiling a little to yourself at the blissed out look on her face. “Feeling better?”
Emily started laughing, a true belly laugh. “You’re ridiculous.”
You smiled, tucking her hair behind her ear. “Hey, you don’t get to be sassy to the person who just fucked you back into a good mood.”
Emily rolled her eyes, her hands caressing your shoulders. “Thank you,” she whispered, her eyes expressing even more gratitude.
You lightly kissed her, the first of many. “Don’t mention it. Next time, don’t wait until you’re a raging bitch before asking for what you need,” you smirked.
Emily pushed at your shoulder, shaking her head lightly at your antics. She pulled you down, relaxing under the weight of you, feeling herself drift off to sleep.
If anyone noticed Emily’s improved mood the next day, or the hickies on her neck, they didn’t mention it. The fact that you two solved the case before the day was over was good enough for them.

Tumblr media
Melissa comes in just as Jared plants his lips on yours. You push him away weakly, your stomach absolutely killing you as you do so.
“What the fuck?” your girlfriend rages. There’s a fire in her eyes that you’ve only seen a few other times, and they’ve never been directed at you. It’s… terrifying to say the least. Jared just looks smug as he looks to her.
“What? Babe, did you not tell Melissa that the two of you were through and we were back together?” he asks, feigning confusion- although it’s very clear to both you and Melissa that he knows exactly what he’s saying and doing.
“Mel, it- it isn’t what it looks like,” you try to tell her, but you know it’s no use. She thinks she knows what she saw.
“Fuck you. Fuck both of you,” she points a finger at the two of you. She turns on her heel and storms out, slamming your front door as she goes. That startles Ellie out of her slumber, and you hear her cries from the living room. Ellie hates loud noises, and she always has- she can’t handle them when she’s just woken up. Across the hall, you can hear Melissa slam her own front door too. Somehow, it shakes your side of the hall again.
“Get the fuck out of my house,” you hiss at your ex-husband as you do your best to rush to your daughter’s side. You collapse on the couch next to her and pull her into your arms as much as you can, peppering kisses to her head in hopes of calming her down.
“Momma! Why did the house shake?!” your little girl whimpers into your chest. “Where’s Mel? I want Mel.”
Jared sets himself down on the couch next to you and has the audacity to try to twist what happened to your daughter. “Melissa isn’t happy that Momma and Daddy are getting back together. I doubt you’ll see much of her again.”
“Jared, I said to get the hell out,” you seethe as you continue to run your fingers through Ellie’s hair. “We are not getting back together, Ellie. And you will continue to see Mel, I promise.” You just hope that you can keep that promise. If you and Melissa are through, you can only hope that the redhead who has wormed her way into your daughter’s heart will continue to be there for Ellie.
“I’m trying to comfort my daughter,” he tells you and continues to gently rub the little girl’s back.
“Jared, if you are not out of this house within the next ten seconds, I swear to God,” you close your eyes and threaten him angrily.
“What are you going to do, Y/N?” he tells you. “I’m not leaving.”
“Elizabeth, go over to Melissa’s, please,” you say seriously. “She’ll watch you while your father and I talk.”
You’ve never seen your little girl move so fast, and she’s always running around. She sprints out the front door, leaving it open and knocks frantically on your neighbor’s door.
“Mel, please! It’s Ellie!”
The door whips open, and at the tears and the fear in your daughter’s eyes, Melissa scoops up your little girl. She presses a soft kiss to Ellie’s head as your daughter hides her face in the crook of your neighbor’s neck. Melissa glares at you through the opening in your door before turning back into her own living space.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?!” you shout at Jared. “You cheat on me, you leave our family and our life, and then when I’m finally happy again, you come in and ruin it all!”
“I came back to say I was sorry and that I wanted to get back together!” he yells right back at you.
“And I told you very clearly, that I wanted no parts of that! And then you drag our daughter into it?! Jesus Christ, Jared. If I had known that this was the-” you cut yourself off to gasp in pain at the terrible pain on the right side of your abdomen. “If I had know that this was what our lives would turn out to be…”
“Don’t you dare fucking say that,” he hisses at you. “We made Ellie together, and you cannot go and say that you would wish her away.”
“I would never wish my child away- like you did, and for what?! To go sleep with her babysitter!”
“And I realized that I fucked up!”
“No fucking shit!” you scream. “We had the perfect life! The perfect family! And you went and fucked it all up! And now, now that I have the perfect life here with my parents and my little girl and my girlfriend, you find your way back and manage to fuck all of that up too!” That gets the attention of Melissa and Ellie. The redhead hasn’t closed the door to her apartment, and she can hear and see the two of you perfectly from where she holds Ellie close to her on the couch.
“I didn’t fuck anything up! You fucked it all up by moving across the country and being gay!”
“There is absolutely nothing wrong with me loving who I love! What is wrong is that you decided to become a dirty, rotten-” He smacks you clean across the face. You cry out in pain as a hand flies up to your face. But you regain your composure again because the slap across the face pales in comparison to the absolutely searing pain in your stomach. “Get the fuck out of my apartment. And don’t think that I won’t be filing for-”
You get cut off again, but this time it’s by Ellie and Melissa. You hadn’t realized that the redhead had kept her door open and that yours was still ajar. Both of them had just witnessed your ex-husband lay his hands on you.
“Get the fuck away from her,” Melissa seethes. “Get the fuck away from her, or so help me, God.”
Jared stands from his place. “And what the fuck are you gonna do about it?”
“Ellie,” you cut in. “Your room, now. Headphones on.”
Your child, for once, doesn’t follow your orders. Instead, she marches herself straight up to your ex-husband. “Don’t hit Momma!”
He, in a fit of rage, raises his hand. Before he can strike her though, Melissa rips him away from the couch. You pull your daughter as close to you as you can, terrified of what might happen. You know Melissa has a temper on her, and you also know that she isn’t one to back down from a bare knuckled fist fight, even against a man as fit as your ex-husband. Luckily, her adrenaline takes over and she’s able to throw him out the door before slamming it shut and locking him out.
She shouts through the door, knowing that he’ll hear her, “I wouldn’t try anything else, asshole!”
He continues to yell and scream about how she has no right to take his child and wife away from him before the redhead reaches for your phone and calls the police.
As Jared continues to shout at you through the door, Melissa turns her attention to you. Your cheek is bright red, and the outline of Jared’s hand is etched into your skin.
“Melissa, I-”
“Don’t,” is all she says before she walks into your kitchen and grabs an ice pack.
“But I-”
“Don’t worry about nothing,” Melissa tells you as she presses it to skin gently. She smirks. “He’s fucked. I got it all on video with my phone set up on the counter in my apartment.”
“Oh my god,” you whisper as you cling to Ellie.
Your little girl is hysterical as she clings to you just as much. “Momma, I didn’t- I didn’t like that. I didn’t- I hated that!”
“I know, I know,” you mumble into her hair. “I’m so sorry, baby.”
Melissa does her best to help soothe your daughter, but nothing really works because watching her father strike her mother and then almost being hit herself has Ellie quite shaken- and with good reason.
Jared is still yelling at all three of you through the door about how this isn’t over- how he’s going to get you and Ellie back. Thankfully, Melissa has the sense to go into Ellie’s room and grab her headphones to help block out the noise. Still, your little girl is more shaken than you’ve seen her before. It feels like forever before the police show up at your door. They cart him away before knocking.
“You’re gonna fucking pay for this!” you hear Jared threaten as they pull him down the hall. You go to stand up to answer it, but your girlfriend gently pushes you back into the cushions with your daughter before going to open it.
“Schemmenti?” the officer asks. “Damn, I should’ve known.”
“I didn’t do nothin’ this time, Jerome,” the redhead smirks before sobering. “I called because that asshole was laying hands on my girlfriend.”
“You two know each other?” you look between the two of them curiously.
“I told you I know guys in almost every department, didn’t I?” Melissa turns to you before inviting the man in blue in.
The officer take your statement, Melissa’s statement, and Ellie’s statement before they leave with a promise that a restraining order will go through for the three of you against your ex-husband. Ellie shocks everyone in the room by stating that she never wants to see her father again- that she didn’t like the mean side of him and doesn’t want him to hit her.
“I also got in touch with Marco about the child support,” Melissa tells her guy. He nods with a chuckle. The man in blue heads out not much later, leaving you with your girlfriend (you think she’s still your girlfriend) and your daughter.
“Melissa, I-”
“Not right now,” is all she says. “All that matters right now is getting Ellie to calm down, fed, and in bed, and then we can talk, okay?”
You nod. You know she’s right.
“Give me five minutes to go change into my pajamas and grab my phone, and I’ll be back.”
“Promise?”
She just kisses your temple in lieu of an answer before heading across the hall. And she is back in the promised five minutes- it actually only takes her about three to return back to you.
“You started on dinner?” she asks, not quite sure what else to say in the tense air.
“Nothin’s been cooked,” you sigh.
“Pizza it is,” the redhead tells you as she heads into the kitchen. She returns a few seconds later with the heating pad in hand and some Midol to help alleviate your pains. She pulls Ellie into her arms before gesturing for you to lay your head in her lap. You follow her instruction before she hands you the supplies. You smile at her gratefully.
By the time the pizza has come, you’ve fallen asleep and Ellie isn’t hysterical anymore. You wake up with your head on a pillow as opposed to your girlfriend’s lap, and the redhead and daughter are both quietly eating dinner when you look into the kitchen. When you really listen in, you can hear Melissa trying to soothe your daughter’s fears over what happened earlier today.
“Daddy said that he and Momma are getting back together, and that I won’t see you anymore though,” Ellie sighs sadly. “I don’t want you to go… I love you, Mel.”
“El, I don’t know how many times I have to tell you that I am not leaving you, or your momma, for you to believe me,” the redhead assures your daughter with yet another kiss to her head. “I love you both so much.”
“‘M just scared,” your little girl admits quietly. “I already losed Daddy, but he isn’t my favoritest anymore. I don’t want to lose you Mel. You’re my one of my favoritest people, and I know your Momma’s favoritest too. ”
“I think you take the title of your Momma’s favorite person in the world,” Melissa smiles at your daughter. Then she validates your child’s feelings. “And I understand that you’re scared, but I promise you that I am here. I ain’t goin’ nowhere if I can help it. I don’t wanna lose my two favorite people either.”
Your heart swells at that admission. She still loves you- Jared may not have ruined your relationship after all. You had thought that maybe she was just playing the part for Ellie, but it’s confirmed now in your mind that you aren’t losing Melissa in your life. Deciding now is a good time to make it known that you’re awake, you pull the blanket that had been draped around you with you into the kitchen and kiss both of their heads before settling in your chair. Almost immediately, Ellie is wiggling her way into your arms and holding onto you tightly.
Dinner is quiet and tense, and so is the hour that you all spend on the couch before putting your little girl to bed.
Melissa, as much as she just wants to get your daughter to bed, fully puts herself into character as she reads Ellie’s favorite bedtime story with all of the theatrics that she would usually use- and it feels so good to hear your little girl’s giggles against you, especially after the shit that hit the fan today. But when it comes time to leave Ellie in her room, she doesn’t want any of it.
“Momma, I’m scared,” she whispers as she clutches your shirt desperately. I want you and Mel.”
You can’t blame her for that. So you simply whisk her away and into your own bedroom. Melissa follows, of course she does.
It doesn’t take long for your daughter to fall asleep between you and the redhead, the day’s events exhausting her. And when she starts to snore softly, you know she’s out for the night.
You turn your head to look at Melissa. “Mel, can we talk?”
“Yeah, hun,” the redhead sighs. “Listen, I’m sorry I stormed out. I thought-”
“I know what you thought you saw,” you tell her softly. “And I-”
“Can you let me get this out?” your girlfriend asks. “I need to get this off my chest.”
“I’m listening,” you promise.
“I’ve been cheated on before too, as you know,” she mumbles. Then she clears her throat. “I thought that you really were getting back with him and that you were just stringing me along… that the reason you didn’t tell me about meeting him at first was because you were planning on getting back with him. And I- Y/N, I’m so sorry. I- I should’ve known, but my emotions and fears got the best of me, and I reacted before I could be rational.”
You reach across your daughter curled up into you and squeeze your girlfriend’s hand gently.
“I understand,” is what you say. “I totally understand. But please… please know that I don’t want him. I only want you. I want to get past all of this drama with him and then just focus on us and the life that we’re building together.”
She smiles at you with warm eyes. “That’s all I want to do too.”
“We’re gonna get through this,” you promise her.
She pushes herself up on her elbows just slightly in order to kiss you gently. “We’re gonna get through this. We’ll get everything with him straightened out, I’ll make sure that you get the child support money, and we’ll start our lives together.”
The next morning, when you wake up with Ellie on top of you snoring softly and Melissa's arms wrapped around you, you know that maybe... just maybe, everything will be okay.
AND THAT FOLKS IS THE END OF THIS SERIES UNLESS SOMEONE GIVES ME REASON TO WRITE MORE :) 🤍

Warnings: angst, a little fluff, dead dove: do not eat, implied abuse, implied sexual assault, implied abusive husband, comforting, crying, alcohol consumption, anxiety attacks, a little self destructive behavior, mentions to prostitution, SVU things, Elizabeth Donnelly, Alex Cabot, Rafael Barba, Olivia Benson, Liz and Alex are a bit of a power couple, gray ending, etc.
Enjoy (;
You didn’t know Rita Calhoun well. At least not originally. From the moment you did meet, you both couldn’t deny the connection between the two of you. You had always lived in coinciding worlds, she was a New York defense attorney, and you were an investigator for 1PP, occasionally lended out to SVU.
Originally, she was the lawyer whom you had hired for your idiot of a brother when he had been caught and charged with soliciting a prostitute. You had met with the high class woman on a couple of occasions, to discuss your brothers bail, probation, trial, payment, and anything else pertaining to his case.
You saw yourself intrigued by her elegant manner, high end fashion, and confidence. Soon you saw yourself get hooked to the tiny smiles and chuckles you managed to pull from her when in private. You found yourself fighting to make the woman laugh as much as you could, her laugh always seemed to make your day. And during the trial, your eyes were on her the entire time. You lived off those days outfits that Rita would strut into court in.
So when you checked your phone late Friday night, the last thing you expected to see what a very many handfuls of missed calls from Rita Calhoun. You saw that she had left a voicemail in the last call, so you pressed play.
“Heyyyy Y/N… S-sorry to be bothering you so I know it’s^^late… I… I just… I don’t know what to do, call me back k bye”
It was Rita alright, but something was very wrong. She had been stammering and hiccuping throughout the entire voicemail, and had broken into sobs by the end. She sounded like she’d been crying and drinking for far too long… Her sounds triggered memories of your own life, memories that you had gone to great lengths to bury.
You immediately called the woman back. The dial rang for a couple tones, then it shut off. You hit call again. The second time, she picked up. You heard a sniffle and then a choke sob.
“H-hey…” she practically whispered.
“Rita, Hi, is everything alright?”
“I…” She stammered, before the call went silent.
“Rita?” You asked, your concern growing.
“N-no” She whispered, then letting out another choked sob.
You took a deep breath and your instincts kicked in once more. You got Rita to give you her address and told her that you would be over as soon as possible. That night you broke the made the most traffic violations in your entire life.
You entered the house, the front door having been unlocked which was mildly concerning to you. You walked through the lavish, lofty apartment, until you found Rita curled up facing away from you in the living room on the floor with a full bottle of wine in her hand. Your heart sank and a lump came into your throat. You hated how normal and used to this sight you were. Because not too long ago, this had been you…
You dropped to the floor, immediately going to comfort the woman. You carefully removed the alcohol, setting it aside. Rita let out a choke sob, immediately curling up into your lap. As she turned to face you, you saw the massive black eye that she had. Your eyes scanned her entire body, finding more red, raw skin marks along her arms and some blue bruising on her neck. Your heart nearly broke as Rita sobbed into your lap.
“I—im s-sorry… I didn’t-didn’t know who t-to call…! It’s it’s stupid, nothing really—” Rita choked out, muffled as she cried into your chest.
You knew this behavior. You knew it all too well.
“Hey hey, it’s okay. I’m here Rita… It’s all going to be okay. Can I touch you, honey…? Would that be alright…?” You very gently asked the woman, coming a little closer to her, trying to show that you were no threat.
Rita nodded as her cries were muffled by her face being in the crook of your neck. She clung onto you like her life depended on it.
“Ok, good… you are doing so good for me, Rita. Take some deep breaths for me? Can you try to do that?” You comforted the woman, bringing your hands around to hold the woman in your lap.
You could hear Rita trying to take some deep breaths as she nodded, although her hiccups made it more difficult.
“Good, very good, Rita.” You praised, then bringing your hands to cup the woman’s cheeks and direct her scattered gaze to you.
“Now Rita this is important… I need you to come back to me and think, okay?”
A slow nod.
“Is he going to come back anytime soon…?” You softly asked.
Rita’s eyes widened and she began to panic at your question. Your hold on the woman only tightened and you insisted on her answer.
“I know you don’t want to think about it, but I need to know if you’re safe staying here Rita.” You explained firmly yet lovingly.
Rita took some more deep breaths before stammering,
“I… he he’s gone out… drinking…” she gulped, “Be back late…”
Her eyes were red and glossy, and they only panicked more at the idea of her husband returning. You rubbed her back and caressed her check in comfort.
“Ok. We need to get you to a hospital, Rita…” you gently said, knowing the possible outlast that your words might cause.
Rita practically jumped out of your lap and was quick to stand up and start pacing in the living room. Her fingers were red and raw and fidgeting. Her gaze scattered everywhere. You slowly stood up and tried to corner the woman into your embrace.
“No no no hospitals… hospitals means cops and that means court and no no—” Rita rambled, her thoughts spiraling more and more.
You grabbed the woman’s hands, clasping them in your own to ground the woman. Her sobbing gaze finally met yours once more.
“Okay. That’s okay. Rita, listen to me, is there anywhere you can go to stay for the time being…?” You softly asked.
Rita’s lip began to tremble and her knees buckled, her body falling into yours. Luckily, you managed to gently catch and carry the weight of the woman while she regained partial strength.
“N-not RAF—Rafael… he can’t know, no no no one…” Rita choked out in gasps.
When she wasn’t able to come up with any other options, your mind went to the person who had helped you.
“Okay okay, that’s okay, Rita. How about Elizabeth? You know Judge Donnelly? She’s a close friend and I know she can help…” you spoke with understanding and reassurance.
Rita looked up to you from collapsing in your arms and nodded slowly. But her eyes told you that she had sunken too far into her thoughts, that you would have to start making the decisions in her best interest until she came back to you.
You gently placed Rita back on the couch, quickly going to the kitchen to grab her a water, while you then ran around the place, trying to pack her a weekend back. After about 15 minutes, you had the bag in hand and you were leading the woman out of the house and into a cab. The entire cab ride, Rita was snuffling and silently sobbing in your shoulder.
Once you reached Liz’s brownstone, you violently knocked on the door, Rita protected being you and holding your hand. The door flew open but it wasn’t Liz, it was a blonde. Your eyes went wide and you gulped, suddenly regretting not having double checked with Liz beforehand.
“You’re Y/N, right…? I’m Alex.” The tall blonde spoke slowly yet confidently.
“Yes, um is Liz home?” You said, quickly getting to the point while trying to hide Rita behind you to the best of your ability.
But Liz had told you about Alex, she was sharp, didn’t miss a thing.
“Yea, she’s in the kitchen… Is that Calhoun…?” Alex hummed, leaning against the doorway.
You took a deep breath and brought Rita to stand next to you. Alex’s jaw dropped and she took a step back in shock.
“I just… we needed a safe place to go for the night and Liz always said her door was always open and I’m sorry if we intruded, I just can’t handle this, I mean I know Liz can handle it, and so I thought—” you rambled.
Before you could say another word, the blonde was pulling you and Rita into the brownstone, closing the door behind her and marching straight up to Liz in the kitchen.
“Is that our take-out, bunny…?” Liz hummed, while sipping some wine before her gaze met yours and then Rita’s disheveled state.
“Oh my god.” Liz immediately put her glass doing and rushed over to Rita, her hands wandering all over the woman, her gaze scouring the woman’s injuries, “Rita, Darling, what happened…??”
Rita’s lip trembled before more violent sobs came out. No coherent words were possible for the woman at this point, all she could do was embrace Liz and sob into her chest. Liz happily consoled the poor woman before her gaze meet yours along with the go bag.
“I’m sorry…” you mouthed, referring to breaking up her and Alex’s obvious night together.
“Hush now, you did the right thing, take Rita’s things to the first bedroom on the second floor.” Liz told you, waving off your unneeded apology.
You immediately nodded and went to go up the stairs. Then Luz turned to Alex.
“Go run a bath, warm not too hot.” Liz spoke firmly.
Alex was off to the master bathroom after a quick nod. When you both returned, you found Rita clung around Liz like a Koala, clinging on for dear life and continuing to sob in her chest. The sight brought flashbacks of the night you had stumbled up on Liz’s doorstep, in an eerily same condition as Rita…
Liz soothed Rita while guiding her to the master bathroom. The older blonde sent you a comforting gaze with a nod, telling you that she had it. You placed a hand on your heart and took a shattered breath, nodding slowly.
It was then that you noticed Alex coming up beside you. You turned your head to her slightly.
“I… I just didn’t know where else to go… I’m sorry if I ruined your night…” you breathed out.
Alex brought a hand to your shoulder and reassuringly squeezed your skin lightly. Her eyes twinkled with sympathy and care.
“Hey, it’s okay. You made the right call. And hey, I’m glad to finally meet you.” Alex sighed, “Can I get you anything…?”
You nodded and then sighed yourself.
“Tea maybe…? Or fuck some scotch now that I think about it…”
A deep chuckle reverberated throughout Alex’s chest as she nodded in agreement, going to the kitchen and pulling a bottle out of the liquor cabinet. She poured two glasses and handed you one of them.
“Thanks” you muttered.
Alex hummed an of course in response, before going to sit down in the classy living room. You sat across from her, sipping your scotch lightly. The blonde looked you dead in the eye, as she sighed.
“Liz told me a bit about you and that night.”
You gulped and struggled to maintain the intense eye contact. You knew that Liz and Alex were close, really close, however it still was hard to reconcile another person knowing something so vulnerable about you. But if Liz trusted Alex with it, so did you.
“Yea… I was and am still so grateful to Lizzie for all that she did for me…” you confessed.
“Lizzie…?” Alex chuckled dryly with a cock of an eyebrow.
“Yea…” you breathily chuckled, “Her and my dad worked together…”
Alex smiled lightly in understanding, nodding along, waving her hand in the air and prompting you to continue, knowing from what Liz had said that that wasn’t the whole story.
“Yeah they were colleagues, and so I saw Lizzie at events and she’d been at my childhood home a couple times… I’d always been pretty independent, both my parents working all the time, and me being the oldest led to me getting used to being on my own. And then my parents divorced, and I got even more alone…” you sighed.
Another wave of sympathy washed over Alex’s face, as she sipped her scotch and listened intently.
“I’m sorry. I definitely know the pains of divorced parents…” Alex sighed.
You smiled lightly and nodded, before continuing you tawdry tale,
“Anyways, Lizzie was one of the only people who reached out to me, to y’know check on me and stuff. She’s always been in my corner, and she’s practically filled the role of a mother ever since the divorce…” you spoke out softly.
You could tell that Alex knew most of this, and that she was waiting for the part about how this all connected to Rita, so you cut to the chase.
“Anyways, about two years ago, I meet and started to see this guy… Looking back, he was a lot like my father, and I should have recognized the warning signs earlier… But I didn’t. And I let it go on for an entire year… Until…” you sucked in a breath, “I wound up on Lizzie’s doorstep, heart broken and bruised…”
You saw Alex’s audible gulp at your last sentence. You saw how her hand tightly clutched her glass, her knuckles almost white. With a deep breath, she nodded and prompted you to continue with her hand once more.
“Anywho, Lizzie helped me get my shit together and throw him out of my place and my life. I’d taken his abuse for a whole year, and I’m still recovering to this day from the number he did on me…” You concluded your story.
Alex then stood up and came to sit next to you on the couch you inhabited. Her hand came to squeeze your shoulder reassuringly.
“I’m so sorry that you had to go through all of that…” Alex sighed, “I hear you, recovery takes time.”
You took a breathy, deep breath with a shaky nod, all the memories of your past coming up as you talked about it all. But her touch was soothing. It was then that Liz emerged from the hallway and came into the living room with a sigh. The older woman sat down next to you, a hand running up and down your thigh in reassurance.
“She’s okay, Rita is going to be fine.” Liz hummed, before stealing your glass of scotch and sipping away at it.
You didn’t mind the cheeky gesture, lord knows she needed the relaxation, merely humming and nodding in response.
“She’s in the bath, and she’s asking for you…” Liz spoke once more.
You sucked in a breath and nodded, starting to stand up. As you went to leave and find Rita in the master bath, you turned back towards Liz and Alex, who were now snuggling lovingly on the couch.
“Thank you Lizzie… Really, thank you.” You breathed out shakily.
Liz met your gaze, her eyes filled with love and care, and the older woman nodded.
“Anytime, sweetheart.”
You nodded lightly with a small smile, before turning around and making your way to find Rita. By the time you reached the bath, you found Rita passed out in the warm water, snoring lightly and peacefully. You noted how graceful and content Rita looked asleep. Coming up to the tub, you sat down next to the rim, and proceeded to tuck a stray hair behind Rita’s ear.
She must be exhausted… you thought. And your suspicions were confirmed as the woman continued to sleep until the water in the tub threatened to go cold. It was then that you gently nudged the brunette out from her slumber. She snorted lightly as her eyes fluttered open. Her gaze still looked shattered and sad, and her lip was still lightly trembling.
“Fuck I’m mm sorry, I must have fallen asleep—” Rita rambled in a quiet mumble.
“Hush, none of that. It’s completely alright…” you comforted the woman, raising your hand for her to stop.
Rita shut her mouth and blushed a little, then shivering in the now cold bath water.
“Thanks…” she whispered.
“Of course. Now let’s get you out and into something warm…” you hummed, grabbing a fluffy towel from the bathroom cabinet and then reaching your hand out towards Rita.
Rita happily took your hand, then climbing out of the tub, then you proceeded to wrap the woman up in the warm towel.
“M-my clothes…” Rita murmured, looking to the ground as fear lurched in the pit of her stomache at the idea of having to wear her bloodied clothing.
You gently rubbed her towel wrapped shoulders with a light smile.
“I grabbed some things before we left your place, the bag is on the toilet. It will have to do for now, until we figure out what to do…” you cooed caringly.
Rita blushed lightly and muttered a thank you. You told her it’s was the least that you could do, before giving her a kiss on the forehead and leaving her in the bathroom to go through the bag and change.
As you exited the room and walked back into the living room, you found Liz and Alex right where you had left them, with Alex curled up in Liz’s arms. Liz’s head popped up from her gaze on Alex back to you as you came into the living room and took a seat on an opposing couch, with a pondering look on your face.
“I know that look…” Liz hummed cheekily, taking another sip of your scotch, “What’s on your mind, kiddo?”
You bit your lip, pulling out your phone, before looking over to Liz.
“I was thinking about maybe calling Barba…” you mused aloud, your mind questioning on what to do next.
At this, Alex perked up to. Liz’s eyes widened and her expression was a knowing one, one that quickly understood your line of thought.
“I see… What did Rita say?” Liz hummed, placing the scotch back on the table and much to Alex’s delight starting to massage the young blonde’s shoulders.
You looked away from Liz at her words, and back to your phone.
“When I asked where she could go, she said not Rafael… I know that their friends, she’s mentioned him before… But he could help…” you sighed, inwardly conflicted.
Liz sighed at your admission. And she seemed to be in deep thought for a moment before she spoke,
“When you came to me, did I call anyone…?” The older woman asked you.
You bit your lip and sighed.
“No…”
“Exactly. Even though I wanted to… Probably would have called Liv, but I didn’t. Because you didn’t want me to.” Liz spoke,
You once again looked to the ground instead of meeting the older woman’s gaze.
“I’m not saying that Barba is a bad idea…” she slowly explained, “I think that it would be best if we ask Rita first.”
“Ask me what?” Rita’s timid voice echoed through the expansive living room and kitchen.
All three of your heads swiveled with extreme speed to the end of the hallway where the brunette stood. She padded her way through part of the kitchen and then into the living room. You immediately scooted over and lightly waved her over to come and sit. Rita did exactly that before repeating her question, more vocal this time.
“What did you want to ask me first?” The woman spoke.
Liz and Alex immediately eyed you, quirking their eyebrows and very clearly telling you that since this was your idea, you were the one who was going to say something. You gulped, turning your body more towards the group. Your gaze met Rita’s and you reached your hands out to grasp her left available hand and reassuringly squeeze it.
“I… We were talking about maybe calling Liv… or Barba…” you shakily breathed out, squeezing her hand lovingly while speaking to comfort the woman.
The same panic from earlier this night came rushing back to the woman’s gaze. But she was a little more collected now, and she seemed to handle the surge of emotions better this time around.
“I…” Rita stammered, “I don’t know…”
She slumped forward a bit and closed her eyes, a singular tear escaping her eyes. You immediately extended your arm and brought the brunette into your soft embrace.
“That’s okay. We can deal with all that later… How are you feeling…?” You gently spoke.
“Exhausted…” Rita choked out, “and stupid… like it’s all my fault…!”
The broken defense lawyer turned completely towards you, clinging to your frame as she began to cry into your shoulder. You gently caressed her back and shoulders reassuringly.
“That’s it, it’s going to be ok, Rita… It’s all going to be okay…” you soothed the woman.
“B-but how do you know that…?”
You sighed.
“Because… I’ve been through something eerily similar…”
At this, Rita pulled back and looked at you with eyes full of empathy.
“I’m so sorry…” she uttered, fully processing the words you had just spoken.
You smiled lightly and cupped Rita’s face.
“It’s okay… I’m past that now. Now I’m here for you… Now how about bed…?” You hummed caringly.
Rita nodded and hummed a soft thank you, before you guided the woman up and to one of Liz’s many guest bedrooms. You stayed with her until she was asleep, which didn’t take too long, but you stayed nonetheless, before then turning in for the night yourself in another guest room, which Liz had so kindly offered you.
~~
Rita spent the rest of the weekend at Liz’s. Liz and Alex were more than happy to host, and they graciously let you stay as well to keep an eye on the broken brunette.
Then come Monday morning, you were walking into the SVU squad room with Rita anxiously by your side. You grabbed her shaky hand and squeezed it reassuringly, as your other hand rapped on Captain Liv Benson’s office door. Neither of you expected Barba to swing the door open, and he sure as hell didn’t expect to see Rita.
Liv ushered you in, and Rafael could immediately sense something was wrong. Rafael simply closed the door behind you, not bothering to leave.
“Rita, Y/N, how can I help you?” Liv spoke.
Rita shuffled her feet and looked to the ground. You squeezed her hand again and whispered that it was going to be okay.
“Wait what is going on…?” Rafael cut in.
Liv sent Barba a warning glance for him to be quiet to let you or Rita speak. You gently looked towards the brunette, whose lip was now trembling.
“I… I was raped…” Rita shakily breathed out, as a small tear rolled down her left cheek.

Part 2 with a happy ending…? Or maybe something more angsty…? 😏

i'm not good at writing fluff :( , valentines day, a little kiss, that's it

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You drove to school alone this Valentine’s Day, arriving just on time after waking up later than you should have. By the time you reached the break room, it was practically empty, with just a few of your colleagues milling about, savouring the last few minutes before the children arrived.
You approached the counter to pour your morning coffee but, beside the empty pot was your favourite mug. The lid was on to keep the drink warm, just as you always have it, and a note with your name and a smiling face was stuck to its side. You smiled fondly at the gesture, taking a sip gladly to taste the beverage concocted just to your liking. Today was already off to a good start.
You’d given in to the holiday with heart-shaped decorations hanging from the walls; your class had practically forced you into making them, and the afternoon prior was dedicated to cutting out pink and red paper and glueing strips together into chains. Today, by popular request, you spent the morning decorating cards. By your instruction, the children created messages of friendship for the person sitting beside them with a painfully large amount of glitter spread across the desks. The sparkling pinks and purples will stay cemented into the carpet for eternity, you’re sure.
Janine made her rounds through the corridors with her usual grin and a wicker basket full of cardstock trimmed into rounded hearts. Somehow, she’d managed to personalise enough messages for all of the children in the second and third grades. Apparently, she had aimed to conquer the whole school, but after getting cramp more than once, she settled on her two favourite grades instead.
“Hi, everyone,” she smiled when she walked in, earning a few waves from the class whilst they focussed on their work. You’d tricked them into working on the curriculum by making each and every task painfully Valentine’s themed. “Cupid comes bearing gifts. I’m Cupid, by the way, I didn’t just let some random guy bring candies for the kids,” she added, making you laugh just as her mumblings often do.
“Everybody show Cupid your good manners,” you spoke as Janine placed her gifts in front of each student. She was rewarded with polite ‘thank yous’ from your whole class until her basket was finally emptied besides one more token of adoration.
“You have a secret admirer,” she smiled excitedly when she approached you, handing you a chocolate rose and a sealed envelope. You felt your cheeks heat up at the attention and the precise, cursive lettering of your name in golden pen.
You waited for the class to settle down again before you peeled it open, pulling out the simple square of white card inside. It was brief and vague but enough to make your heart thump against your chest and your stomach swarm with an excitement that sent a shiver through you. The sender merely wished you a good day with a clumsily scribbled bouquet of flowers - it was beyond endearing.
Your eyes met Melissa’s for the first time of the day when you walked into the breakroom for your lunch; she greeted you with a smile that made you swoon and a wink before she showed you the lunch she’d brought in for you. It was years ago that she began bringing you homemade meals, but the sweet novelty of it could never begin to fade away; each forkful was a hug from the older woman, a piece of her to show she cares. From the very first time she pushed a tupperware container your way, you’ve always pondered the fact that - in those moments - her lips taste just the same as yours.
Unfortunately for you, the seat beside the woman who harboured your affections was not free. Instead, you settled on the one across from her. You settled on fleeting glances, selfishly wanting her attention to be on you whenever she spoke, fidgeting in your seat just so she would glance in your direction.
Wordlessly, she slid a packet of your favourite candy your way once you’d licked your fork clean of your final bite - nobody mentioned the soft fondness of her actions.
She walked with you back to your class just as she always does. Considering her classroom is directly opposite yours, it’s not much of a detour, but you appreciate the beating of your heart it causes to quicken.
“Heard you got a secret admirer,” she winked with a bump of her shoulder into yours, you giggled bashfully and almost hid your face from her gaze - you’d have shied away if her eyes weren’t so captivating. “Any idea who it is?”
“Not sure,” you answered. “But I think I know who I want it to be.”
There was a takeout cup of hot chocolate from your favourite coffee shop down the street sitting next to a Valentine-themed cupcake on your desk. You wondered how it got there while happily laughing at the sight. This secret admirer was going above and beyond.
By the time you were able to leave for the day, the majority of your colleagues had already uttered a goodbye as they passed your room. After a meeting with a parent, your late departure left your car with empty spaces around it - you didn’t recognise any of the vehicles still there, and you wondered if they were all getting ready for dates right now.
As you approached your car with your keys in hand, you saw the distinct shape of a bunch of flowers tucked beneath the windscreen wipers. The time and attention spent on you made your head swim gleefully, and you couldn’t help but grin at the note - your cheeks were beginning to hurt. That same writing that made your name look more beautiful than you could’ve imagined, gave the simple instruction of a location and time. You had to hurry to make sure to be ready for 6 PM.
The restaurant was filled with couples; you could tell that some were on first dates with awkward conversations and fleeting eye contact. You weaved through the nauseatingly large amount of patrons to where you saw familiar auburn hair. The lightly curled locks fell down her back, sitting against the green satin of her dress; you could see her leg crossed over the other and the finger that trailed along the stem of a wine glass.
You could hear the thrumming of your pulse as you grew nearer.
Your hand grazed the skin of her shoulder once you reached her, and Melissa peered up at you from where she sat, grazing her sights over your figure appreciatively.
“Hi, hon,” she breathed. “Surprised?”
“So surprised,” you giggled, feeling her grin against your lips when you leaned down to greet her with a kiss.
“You look gorgeous, babe,” she added whilst you sat down. Your cheeks burned beneath her compliment.
“So do you,” you returned. “Everyone in here must be jealous that I’m on a date with a Phillie eleven.”
“Flatterer,” she scoffed. You basked in the pink tinting of her cheeks and watched the way her tongue slid over her bottom lip as she looked at you.
“I’ve gotta say,” you started teasingly, watching her over the rim of your glass as you took a sip. “You could’ve given me a challenge.”
“Hm?” she smirked with a tilt of her head.
“Well, it’s not difficult to guess who your secret admirer is when you’ve been married to them for two years.”

Enjoy (;
You stepped into the SVU squad room, looking around at the major bustling and chaos of the room. You fidgeted with the hem of your shirt anxiously, biting your lips and nails as well. You were frozen. You couldn’t process it all. Your eyes then landed on a person who you knew could help.
Casey.
Casey had been the one to call you. She hadn’t told you much, only that you need to come to svu immediately. You had dropped work for this. Left straightaway. It all made you extremely anxious. Why would they need you…? Unless…
You shook the terrible thoughts coming up out of your mind, instead springing into action. You walked up to Casey in the middle of the chaos.
“Hey Case!” You called to the redhead who was swiftly fluttering through pages.
Casey jumped at her name and her eyes shot up to you. Suddenly her gaze softened and she looked at you with concern.
“Y/N’s here!!” Casey shot across the room, and everyone practically stopped in their tracks and looked at you.
You gulped and looked around anxiously, pulling your bag closer to you defensively.
“Case… what’s going on…?” You stammered.
Casey couldn’t meet your gaze. Olivia suddenly came out of the Captain’s office and walked through the squad room, followed by Cragen peeking out of his office, telling everyone to get back to work. The shuffling and bustling immediately picked back up again. The noise wasn’t helping you one bit.
You suddenly felt a hand on your back shoulder, and you jumped slightly. You turned around, relaxing a bit to see it was only Olivia with a warm and caring smile.
“Y/N, let’s go into Cragen’s office, yeah…?” The brunette gently suggested.
After you slowly nodded with parted lips of confusion, Olivia led you by her hand on your back to the Captain’s office. She opened the door for you and closed it behind the two of you. Both SVU members looked tense and concerned.
“What exactly… is going on…?” You tensed out through partially gritted teeth, frustration now hitting you in waves.
Olivia guided you to sit down with her, before she but her lip and explained,
“Y/N… Alex didn’t show up for court a couple of hours ago… We… don’t know where she is. She’s not answering her phone, we can’t track it, it’s dead.”
Your heart sunk. And there was now a limp in your throat. Your heart only raced faster and you suddenly felt dizzy.
Olivia could tell that this was a lot to take in, so she gently held you on both sides of your arms.
“That’s not all…” Cragen sighed.
You looked up at the Captain with glossy eyes and a trembling lip.
“W-what…?” You stammered, bringing your arms into your chest and holding yourself.
“We think Alex was… taken.” He explained slowly.
“W-why would you think that…??” You exclaimed, the anger in you now swelling.
Cragen and Olive exchanged looks. Cragen nodded and relented into the brunettes insistence.
“Come on, let me show you something.” Olivia softly spoke.
She led you outside to the squad room and the media corner. Next to all the screens there was a board. A board of at least 100 photographs. And they were all of Alex. Alex and all the people she interacted with. You were on there, and so was Olivia, and Casey, and Rita, and Liz, and Amanda, and so on.
The pictures were practically Alex’s entire life since she’d been with you. This was years of photos. Some of them looked like they could have been snapped by a news reporter outside the courts. But others, much more intimate pictures of the two of you, could have only been captured by active camera surveillance.
You gasped, bringing your hand to your mouth, as you let out a choked sob that you couldn’t contain anymore. Your stomache sunk. You proceeded to collapse on the floor, and were lucky that Amanda was right by you. The Southern blonde was quick to scoop you up and guide you to take a seat in her desk chair.
She then tried to talk to you, but your mind was spiraling. Suddenly a big boom of stacks of paperwork falling across the squad room brought you back to reality with a jolt.
“Y/N? Y/N, there you are, ‘hun. Hey. Heyyy. It’s going to be okay, alright…?” Amanda reassured you.
“But h-how… do you know that…?” You choked out, the tears continuing to pour out.
At that, Amari and Fin walked into the squad room.
“It’s out lucky day! Perp’s blood was at the scene, that girl put up a fight…!” Amara exclaimed, not having realized that you were there.
You immediately stood up and turned to face Amaro. Nick’s eyes went wide and his face struggled to give away the fact that he knew he had fucked up.
“What scene? What…?? What happened??” You exclaimed with a gasp, frustration and anger running through your veins once more.
Amanda pulled you towards her and into her embrace. Her touch calmed you a little, but right now, you really needed it to be Alex’s touch. After a minute, her hug actually and surprisingly helped.
“Thanks…” you muttered.
Amanda shrugged and smiled lightly, as if it was nothing.
“Learned that in Atlanta, had a partner who had anxiety attacks.” The blonde told you, “It’s a grounding thing.”
You listened and nodded along. But your mind quickly started to wander back to Alex again.
“Wait what scene? Do you know where she was taken…??” You asked.
Amanda sighed and stood up, telling you to wait here. She checked in with Cragen in his office, before coming back to you and grabbing her keys.
“Come on, let’s go for a ride.” Amanda told you, indicating for you to follow her.
You gulped and nodded, silently following the Southern blonde with your wobbly legs. You two got into her patrol car, and she began driving. The ride was silent. You had now become numb, your feelings too much to bear. You didn’t want to go down the rabbit hole of what could go wrong… So you stayed in the ignorance of feeling numb.
After about 15-20 minutes, Amanda pulled up to you and Alex’s shared brownstone. You gulped as your eyes widened as it began to click for you.
“This is…” you stammered, trying to find the words.
“Come on, Darling. I’ll explain inside.” Amanda gently reassured you, squeezing your left hand caringly, before getting out of the car.
You followed the blonde detective up the steps of your brownstone and inside. No one was here anymore. But it was a mess, all taped up with crime scene tape and marked with evidence markers and such. It made your stomache flip upside down when you saw blood on the kitchen doorway.
“What Amaro said, that asshole… was that Alex didn’t go down without a fight…” Amanda explained, taking your hand in reassurance as you walked through the torn apart apartment.
“Alex managed to make her kidnapper bleed.” Amanda breathed out.
At that you looked at the woman with wide eyes.
“So you can find out who they are?” You immediately asked.
Amanda bit her inner cheek and looked way slightly.
“Yeaaa ideally yes… but we already ran it, and he’s not in the system…” she explained.
Any and all hope that you had just gained was lost all over again. Amanda squeezed your hand again in reassurance.
“So what’s next…? What can I do?” You asked, desperate to do anything, to get her back, to see her again.
“First, we are going to walk through your place and go through the events, at least what we know. See if any of it jogs your memory of like someone who would want to harm Alex…” Amanda breathed out.
You shuttered and nodded slowly.
“Then when Olivia and Cragen give the go ahead, I’ll take you back to svu and Olivia will properly interview you…”
You gulped, yet nodded again.
“Ok, let’s do it…” you breathed out.
Amanda nodded and guided you by your hand, walking you through the scene. All your feelings came crashing back as the blonde detective walked you through the theory SVU had of what happened.
Alex hadn’t even left for the office yet, having not needed to go in as early that day… You and already left for work, when someone had come to the door. Alex must have known the person, because she let them in (or they had a gun). The main struggle was in the kitchen. SVU assumed that Alex had most likely tried to reason with whomever the perp was, but it went south in the kitchen. Alex’s blood was on the counter, in a circular mark that upheld that the assailant had violently cracked Alex’s head down upon the counter. There were also blood splatters of Alex’s going from the kitchen and out the door, by the amount and pattern of the blood, it was assumed that the assailant had shot Alex somewhere in the leg, but hadn’t hit a major artery or vein. Luckily, on the kitchen doorway, there was Alex’s bloody partial print, but there blood wasn’t hers. The theory was that before the shooter had incapacitated her, she got a swing or two in, and then when he dragged her out, she made one last attempt to grasp the doorway, leaving the perps blood.
Your heart was pounding in your ears three times as fast as earlier. Tears were pouring down your face and you hadn’t even realized it. Amanda squeezed your hand tighter, as she asked you if it sounded like someone you knew or if it triggered any memories.
“N-no… Mm sorry…” you gasped out in between sobs.
The Southern blonde now came in front of you and took both of your hands.
“Don’t be, you did so good, Y/N.” Amanda comforted you, before receiving a ding on her phone and checking her notifications.
It was Olivia telling Amanda to bring you back. You spent the car ride opposite of the last, filled with all the emotions. You were distraught, and sad, and afraid, and angry, and infuriated, and so much more. Your head was swimming, no drowning it it all. You just wanted a break. You wanted Alex safe in your arms.
Amanda led you back into the squad room, passing you off to Olivia with a reassuring smile. Olivia took you into the family interview room, one that was less jarring than the brick and mortar perp interview/confession rooms. She had you sit on the couch next to her.
“Y/N, Amanda told me that you couldn’t think of anything at the crime scene…”
“Don’t… call it that…” you sputtered, having cried yourself out in the car and now hicupping instead.
Olivia sighed, “Of course, I’m sorry— At your and Alex’s home…”
You had your hands clasped in your lap and you were rocking back and forth anxiously. The brunette detective reached for your hands with her hands and tried to physically comfort you, but you jerked in response, starting to hyperventilate. The brunette detective was quick to retract and stick with her interview questions.
“Besides what you didn’t think of at the crim— your and Alex’s place— Can you think of anyone who would want to hurt you…?” Olivia prodded gently.
You shook your head and then hiccuped. Alex had her hair share of criminals who didn’t like her, but nothing she ever found concerning enough to share with you.
“Alright, what about anyone following you recently…? Notice any reoccurring faces…?” She asked.
You thought about it, going through your last months, if not years in your mind.
“I… don’t think so, no…” you stammered, with two more hiccups.
“Alright… Can I get you some water?”
“Yes please…” you whispered, not being able to handle the eye contact, so you simply shut your eyes.
Olivia muttered something with a hum, letting go of your hands, and leaving the room with the door ajar. You just sat there, with your eyes closed and shaking in your boots. You could hear the noisy clamor of the squad room from the ajar door. It was still just as chaotic, if not more. Tensions were high, and fuses were short.
Before Olivia could come back with your water, a familiar voice boomed while entering the squad room.
“Who the hell didn’t inform me about Alex going missing, and why the fuck did I need to find out like this?!”
You immediately stood up with a jolt, scrambling into the squad room to see Rita standing furiously in the middle of the room, while holding up a manila envelope with her name on it. Calhoun’s determined scowl faltered as she noticed you in the corner. She immediately lowered her mask of defense lawyer and rushed over to you.
Her hands were all of over you, checking to see if you were okay. They landed on each side of your face, as her concerned gaze looked at you.
“Hey Baby… How are you holding up…?” She asked, her eyes still scanning you up and down, before landing on your gaze when she expected an answer.
But all she got was a choked sob from you, your tears now back in full swing. The older woman immediately pulled you in for a hug, which you happily accepted. She hugged you tight and with fierce love, you could feel every fiber of her being that cared through the embrace. When Rita let you go, you wheezed and little and whipped your tears away.
Olivia had by now gotten your water and caught wind of the commotion, now coming up to you and Rita. Rita sent daggers to the brunette detective, making Olivia stop a couple feet away from you.
“What’s in the envelope…?” Olivia quipped, before extending her hand with your water in it.
Rita took the water, examined it, then gave it to you, instructing you to drink, before she considered answering Olivia. When she did, her eyes went sad. The main SVU members had surrounded the two of you, all curious as to what Rita had brought. She opened the envelope and pulled out a hard drive.
“Aha! My area of expertise…!” Munch exclaimed, taking the hard drive from Rita and going over to the media corner to open whatever files were contained within the stick.
You went to follow the rest do the team to see what was on the file, but Rita grabbed you by your arm before you could get too far. You turned back to Rita and looked at the woman who had been your mentor, aunt, mom, practically everything with confusion and glossy eyes.
“ ‘Hun, you may not want to see that…” Rita sighed with deep sadness in her eyes.
She had already seen it.
Your eyes hardened and you frowned. You quickly pulled your hand out of Rita’s grasp.
“Like hell I won’t…” you exclaimed, then turning around and walking up behind the team who were all gathered around Munch who was about to click play on a video file.
Rita came up behind you, her eyes staying on you the entire time as the video played. She watched your face whiten, watched your face wash over in horror, then a wave of anger. She watched your shock, then followed by uncontrollable sadness and tears.
Alex was in the centre of the screen, tied up and hanging by her wrists around a rusty metal bar running along the wall. Her head was hanging low. Her hair frazzled and tired. Her clothing was dirty, torn, and bloody. There was a light sway of her body as it hung from the beam. Her shoes had been discarded. The bottom half of her her stomache was on display, as her shirt was being strained from the position. Her left lower leg was bleeding, presumably from the gunshot from the struggle at the brownstone. Her forehead was all bloody from the blow to the counter.
Suddenly, a person stepped into the frame. They were wearing all black and had their face and voice masked. He had some kind of black colored weapon, almost baton looking in his hand. He laughed wickedly into the camera, before turning his attention to Alex.
“As I can’t torture all of you, unfortunately… One will have to do…” The man tilted his head as he turned on the stick and plunged it against Alex’s exposed side stomache with a cackle.
Alex’s body convulsed and jolted uncontrollably as she was she was hit with volts and volts of burning electricity. She let out a desperate groan, which turned into a silent scream as tears poured down her face, as she fought against her restraints and against the volts. After a couple solid seconds of this, the man finally retracted the insane taser torture. As he moved the torture device back, Alex’s freshly burned skin could be seen, a fresh branded circle on the side of her stomache. The man proceeded to repeat this process for multiple rounds. And the whole time, Alex fought and screamed and convulsed, as tears ran down her face and shirt. Finally, after five burning rounds, Alex passed out. And the man stopped, looking to the camera with a grin.
“No point if the bitch isn’t awake…” He chuckled wickedly, “And that was only Act 1… Dedicated to Detective Olivia Benson…”
Rage was quick to take over your enter being, all the sadness quickly forgotten. You nearly assaulted Olivia right then and there. But Rita saw this coming, and she was quick to hold you back as you attempted to pounce on the brunette detective across from you.
You scowled and fought back, the team all taking a step back from you, all of them just as shocked as you were. But Rita held you firm.
“Shhhh, Baby, it’s okay… Calm down…” Rita cooed into the shell of your ear, “It’s going to be okay, it’s not Olivia’s fault…”
After a couple seconds, Rita managed to get you to promise to not punch the older brunette detective in the face. So she let you go. You huffed and didn’t know what to do. You were hit with another wave of sudden sadness.
As you were having your life crisis, the team began speculating and conversating about what they could learn from the video and how they could find Alex. You weren’t able to focus on them or anything anymore, everything started to just fade away into black.
When you woke up, you were in Rita’s lap, back in the family interview room. For a split second, you felt at peace’s and then reality smacked you back in the face. Rita was beginning to tell you that you had passed out when you began to freak out.
“Hey, Hey. It’s okay, sweetheart. You’re safe, it’s okay.” Rita comforted you, as you sat up startled and distraught.
“N-no it’s n-not… Alex my Lex she’s… she’s…” you choked out, hyperventilating.
Rita was quick to take you into her arms on the couch and comfort you. She ran her fingers through your hair, she rubbed your arms and hands and side, calming you as best as you could.
“Hey. We are going to find this sycko who did this… ok? The team is on it…” Rita insisted and ensured you, “Take some deep breaths for me, Baby…”
You nodded shakily, your entire body shaking in Rita’s arms, as you took some deep breaths. You began to doze off in the woman’s arms, Rita was quick to encourage you to not fight it. And so you dozed off…
You awoke startled once more by a shriek echoing through the squad room and into where you and Rita were. You practically fell off the couch and scrambled out to the squad. Rita was swift behind you. Your eyes fell on Casey, who now had a Manila envelope in her hand with her name on it.
“Where did you get that??” Olivia questioned the redhead.
“I… a junior officer dropped it off… I don’t know, sorry” Casey stammered, handing it off to Olivia who opened it.
“Fin, Amanda, go find that junior officer, maybe he can give us a lead on this guy.” Cragen told his team.
Fin and Amanda nodded and left the room at once. Olivia had found another hard drive, having passed it to Munch to analyze. Rita’s eyes widened as Munch went to press play, and she tried to pull you away once more, but you only pulled away from her and to the screen with more ferocity. With a click from Munch, the video began…
Alex was still in the same position. She was awake again. But barely. Drool was coming from the sides of her mouth as her head lolled down. Her breathing was heavy and labored, affecting her entire body as it hung from the rope attached to her wrists and around the beam.
The man then came back into the camera screen. He held a knife in his hand this time. After taunting the camera, he stalked up to Alex, his free hand roughly grabbing and wrenching her blouse open. The buttons clattered to the floor as the perp moved the torn blouse aside, showing off Alex’s black bra and exposed chest and stomache.
Alex seemed to barely register anything until the knife began slicing her chest. She let out a howl at the pain, deep enough to hurt, but not deep enough to kill. He continued these slices, along her stomache, along her clothed arms as well, and all the way up to her shoulders and neck. He seemed to only be egged on by Alex’s groans and cries, which very quickly turned into begging and pleading for him to stop. Once the man reached her neck, he held the knife firmly along her throat, before speaking. The dozens of cuts all bleed into one another, practically covering Alex’s entire upper body in blood.
“Act 2 is not as bad, because you just sucked at your job…” The man sneered, “But trust me, the next one… I’d be surprised if the bitch doesn’t die… Dedicated to Rita Calhoun.”
Your knees buckled and you collapsed on the floor as Alex let out a particular blood curteling scream in the video. Tears streamed down your face as you couldn’t bring yourself to watch the rest of the video, the audio already taunting you enough. You felt your body go limp and you began to slouch and fall from your knees to the ground completely.
“Turn it off! Off!!” Rita yelled enraged, before dropping to the ground with you and comforting you.
Munch turned the video off, but not before the man was able to dedicate the video to Rita. Rita’s eyes widened and her throat went dry. The whole team stared at the two of you. Rita was dumbfounded at what this had to do with her, but she was quick to spring into action over it.
“Novak. Take Y/N to the diner down the street. She probably hasn’t eaten all day.” Rita commanded the room.
Casey’s eyes widened, and she immediately nodded in understanding.
“Of course, Rita.” Casey said, hurriedly coming over to the two of you.
You tried to protest as Rita handed you over to Casey, but Rita was stern and quickly silenced you, not that you could say anything right now with how overwhelmed you were. Casey was quick to file you out of the room.
You didn’t even remember leaving SVU or getting to the diner, all you remember is suddenly sitting with Casey looking at the late lunch menu. You were shaking and fidgeting like crazy.
Casey reached her hand across the table and squeezed your balled up fist reassuringly. You looked up to the redhead with your stained and now completely dried out eyes, having cried it all out for the second time today.
“Hey. Let’s get you some food, huh…?” Casey hummed.
You nodded slowly. The waitress came, but you couldn’t hear a thing. Casey looked at you with care and understanding, ordering for the both of you. Then once the waitress had left, her attention was on you once more.
“C-Casey…?” You whispered.
Casey leaned in and softly spoke,
“Yes…?”
“How… how are you okay…?” You whispered, a single tear rolling down your cheek as you blinked, “She’s… she’s like your best friend and you hers…”
Casey sighed and squeezed your hand again.
“Y/N, look at me.” Casey hummed, her tone breaking in a falter.
You finally looked at Casey again, and took in her appearance. You suddenly noticed the tear stains on her face and how crazy her long, normally well curled hair was.
“I am not okay. I just… suck at showing my emotions…” Casey explained gently, her own eyes beginning to gloss over as she became more vulnerable.
Your lips pressed together and you smiled lightly, nodding in understanding. You gasped slightly as you felt your phone vibrate once in your pocket. You then felt another vibration. Then one last final third vibrating. You pulled your hands into your lap, away from Casey. The redhead looked at you concerningly.
“Everything okay…?” Casey asked.
“Mm yea… just… need the restroom…” you muttered, before getting out of the diner booth and going to the back where the bathroom was.
Casey nodded, watching you leave, before getting on her phone and updating the team, as well as getting updated by what they had figured out. She let the team know that you were doing okay and that she was about to feed you. She sighed and let out a light groan, trying to process the weight of what was happening, while reading the update from the group chat.
Munch had analyzed the background of the video, having figured out that Alex was being kept in some warehouse. Which one, they had no clue.
Fin and Amanda had gotten no leads from the junior officer, apparently the envelope had been given to him by a homeless looking guy who disappeared as soon as he dropped off the package at the precinct.
Rita, Olivia, and Nick had been spending their time looking over old case files and anything that connected Olivia and Rita along with possibly Alex, in hope to find a perp or bad guy who got away somehow and wanted revenge.
When Casey was done being caught up, the food had come. But you were still in the bathroom… The redhead grew suspicious, getting up from the table and walking to the back of the diner to the bathroom. She knocked on the door, but received no answer. Quickly, she tried your cell. Straight to voicemail.
~~
As you stepped into the bathroom, you couldn’t shake the terrible feeling about the texts, so you locked the door and immediately opened your phone. The texts were all from one unknown number.
Y/N L/N.
Then a video link.
Act 3. Elizabeth Donnelly
You didn’t even click or see the video. Not yet. You saw Liz’s name and couldn’t think of anything else. Liz would know what to do. She always knew what to do.
You carefully escaped from Casey’s gaze and hold out of the back of the diner, rushing to catch a cab to the DA’s office where Liz would most likely be. The ride wasn’t too long, but you still couldn’t bring yourself to press play on that video. Liz would know what to do. She always did.
Once your reached Liz’s office, you didn’t even knock, simply barging in. Liz was talking with a few DA’s, and she was about to dig into whoever interrupted them, but then she saw your state.
“Leave. All of you, now!” Liz ordered, shooing the attorneys away.
You quickly shut and locked the door behind you. Liz looked you up and down.
“Y/N, what is going on…?” The older woman spoke firmly.
You were hyperventilating again. You could sit, you were pacing. But you had to tell her something. And you tried, but you couldn’t bring yourself to explain. Liz stood up, recognizing the signs of an anxiety attack, and coming over to you in concern. She guided you to sit with her on her office couch, asking you again, more softly this time,
“Honey, what’s the matter…?”
You let out a choked sob, bringing out your phone and clicking the video. That was the only thing you could think of. Liz watched your every movement. You pressed play.
Alex was hanging as in the last video, but her blouse was completely gone. Her breathing was shallow and barely there, but she was still alive.
The man showed back up, coming up to the camera to say hello, before quickly turning his attention to Alex once more with the same knife as before in his hands. He grabbed Alex’s chin and pulled her face to meet his gaze. Alex tried to growl and fight back, but the exhaustion on her face was evident. He had probably drugged her up real good so that she didn’t stand a chance… While the man held her face rough with one hand, his other with the knife sliced her bra into pieces. He then let her face go with a smack! before tearing the bra off her body. The vulnerable whimper that Alex let out was distinct. And it only fed into the man’s fantasies. He then bent down to her bottom half and ran the knife down her side, followed by his hands ripping her skirt open. He wrenched that off her as well, throwing it aside. Alex was now left only in her panties. She closed her eyes and went limp, as the man trailed the knife in between her legs and up against her clothed core. He then moved to her thigh and ripped her underwear off with a snap! until she was fully nude, hanging for everyone to see. Another hopeless whimper left Alex as the man suddenly smacked her ass.
Before the video could finish, Liz slammed the phone down onto the ground, effectively pausing it. Your eyes went wide and you looked at the older woman with an open mouth. She looked horrified. But Rage was quick to replace the shock.
“What?! Liz wait—!!” You exclaimed as the blonde stood up and shook her white knuckle fists.
Liz turned back to you, looking you directly in the eyes.
“What in the actual fuck is going on, Y/N?!Why in the hell are you making me watch my daughter be tortured by some psycho???” Liz shrilled.
“Lower your voice!!” You harshly whispered, swiftly standing up and getting in her face, and effectively shutting Liz up for a second with how stern you and suddenly become.
“Then you better goddamn tell me what is going on…” Liz growled.
“OK—” you exclaimed, placing your hand on your forehead and sighing.
You say down again as the overwhelming sadness hit you once more.
“Lex… was taken… didn’t show up in court…” you stammered, “Guy’s been sending… videos…” you choked up.
Liz then picked up the phone from the floor, sitting back down next to you in silence for a moment.
“How many?”
You were jolted out of your grief by her words.
“W-what…?” You stammered.
“How many videos… did he send…?” Liz spoke, trying to sound in control but her own tone faltering and cracking a little.
“This is the third. He usually talks about it in the video…” you said quietly.
This made Liz look at you and then back to the phone. She turned it on and clicked play again. You both sat in anticipation as the video continued.
Alex’s bloody, bruised, and now completely exposed body came back on screen, right where it had left off. Alex flinched as the man smacked her ass a second time.
“Shut up Bitch!! Take it, We all know you want it!!!” The man jeered, before smacking her ass a third time and then grabbing and fondling her tits.
Alex tried to pull away from his touch, she tried to yell or cry or shout, but she found that her body was not taking orders from her mind anymore. Her body had gone limp. But she could feel everything. She could see everything in her line of sight. She could hear everything.
When she went completely silent, unable to protest anymore, the man cackled again, louder and more taunting than ever. He then proceeded to come up to the camera.
“Now, I’m not gonna show you this next bit… I’m going to save that for when you find her dead body… But Act 3 is dedicated to that bitch judge, Elizabeth Donnelly…” the man jeered.
The video then went static for a second. Then the camera came back on and showed an unconscious Alex Cabot, swaying lightly back and forth. Where her body wasn’t sliced and cut, it was bruised. Where her body wasn’t bloody, it was covered in dirt, like it had been thrown at her. The faint and small outlines of cigarette burns were trailed across both of her arms and thighs. Her mouth was filled with an oozing her own blood, as if 100 fists had hit her. And her right tit was branded with a symbol, difficult to make out. All of this and so much worse would be discovered had been done to her…
The video ended and silence took the room. Suddenly you heard crying. You looked over and Liz was hunched over and crying in her lap. You weren’t sure what to do, haven’t ever seen the powerful, older woman so vulnerable before. You just instinctively wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close.
“I… I’m sorry. I didn’t… didn’t know what to do… I thought if I came to you…” you rambled, now feeling guilty for having brought this to Liz.
“Hush… none of that… ssnot your fault.” Liz breathed out in sniffles, accepting your embrace and pressing into you even more, “I know she’s not… my real daughter but if anything happens to her… I… I don’t know what I’d do…”
You two sobbed in each other’s arms for a while. It was only when someone came banging on Liz’s office door with no sudden warning that the two of you jumped apart and off the couch. You went to unlock the door and storming in came a furious Rita.
Rita wouldn’t even hear it from you. She took your phone immediately. All the way back to the squad room, the car was silent between the three of you.
Casey had figured out that you had run away, and she had immediately called SVU. They had divided and conquered all the places they thought you’d go. And the second Liz wasn’t answering her own phone, Casey knew that was where you had gone.
Back in the squad room, Munch began analyzing your phone. You sat in one of the detectives chairs, fidgeting and bouncing your leg, under Rita’s intense gaze. She had made you tell the team everything that had happened. She was not going to let you slip away again. Over her dead body.
Liz immediately threw a fit and started ordering people around. After looking at the files that Olivia and Amara had compiled, it took her five minutes to put it together. Liz found a perp who had escaped jail, whom Olivia had interrogated, Rita had represented and lost, She had judged, and Alex had prosecuted and won.
The second the team had their perp, they began canvassing possible areas. The man leased a piece of warehouse property near the river as it was discovered, so that’s where everyone rushed to go to.
Everyone was on edge.
“I’m gonna go!” You exclaimed to Rita.
“No you are not!!” She shrieked back.
“Why not?!! She’s the love of my life!!!” You yelled, tears running down your face as you screamed.
“Because she might be dead, Y/N!!!!”
Practically the entire squad room went silent at this. They all stared at you and Rita. But quickly, they all began their work again, and the team ran out to the location to find Alex. Both Rita and Liz held you back as you fought to get outside and in a squad car. But they held the upper hand. You collapsed in both of their arms, desperate and exhausted, completely out of energy.
~~
The team did indeed find Alex, although she was barely breathing. They immediately sent her to Mercy’s, where Rita and Liz already had you there waiting. You sat in the waiting room, in between the two woman, shaking and fidgeting restlessly.
Hours went by with no update. Eventually, it was all too much for you. You leaned against Rita’s shoulder for some comfort and before you could stop yourself, you were falling asleep.
~~
“Y/N, love, wake up…” Liz gently woke you, making you snort lightly as you came back to reality.
She was offering you a hand, which you eagerly took to stand up. The nurse came up to you.
“You may see her now. One at a time please.” The nurse told the group of you.
Everyone looked at you and pretty much all agreed in unison and with mere looks that you would be the person going in to see her first.
You entered the hospital room, and immediately came up to Alex’s bedside. You felt relief wash over you that she was here with you and that she was okay. You held one of her hands as she came to.
“Mmm heyyyy…” Alex said in an extremely scratchy and hoarse voice, her head turning slowly towards you.
Tears of joy began to spill out and down your cheeks. You squeezed your wife’s hand lovingly.
“Hi Lex…” you whispered, “How are you feeling…?”
“Like someone pumped an entire pharmacy through me…” Alex groaned lightly, “mm pretty sure I was drugged… most of the time I couldn’t move or speak…” her tone got sad and overwhelmed, as tears started to form on her sapphire eyes.
“Hey hey, it’s okay.” You comforted Alex, who met your gaze again, smiling at the sight of you, “You’re safe with me now, that’s all that matters…”
Alex lightly squeezed your hand now as she smiled. It would be a long road to recovery, but the important thing is that you would be with her every step of the way.
Her squeeze on your hand faded, which you just attributed to the blonde being tired. But then her eyes closed… and then you couldn’t hear her breathing. You jolted when the heart rate monitor started going off.
Suddenly, there were 4-5 hospital staff members in the room, pushing you aside. You stood in the corner of the room, with your hands over your mouth, silent tears flooding down your face. You heard the designated coding sound come from the machine, and you collapsed onto the floor. Everything went numb.
You could vaguely hear a nurse giving you her condolences. You didn’t even reliaze that you were walking out of the room until you stood in front of the group that loved Alex the most. You were violently shaking, you felt like you couldn’t breathe.
Liz was the first own to come up to you, to see what was wrong. And Liz was the first one to understand… You fell to your knees and cried into your hands, not caring anymore. You’d lost the love of your life, your wife, your everything.
Liz looked more emotional and out of control than she’d ever been. She kept stammering that it couldn’t be true, but once a doctor came out and told the entire group the news, Liz let out a distraught wail, covering her face in her hands as she sobbed. Casey immediately buried herself in Liz’s embrace which Liz of course accepted. The last thing you remember about that day was Rita coming up to you and embracing you on the floor…

Secret Santa
Emily Prentiss x reader
A/n; i enjoyed writing this, but i dont know if its good? im trying something new… so this could flop. :/ mistakes will still be present
Tumblr media
The bowl sat in the middle of the table in the conference room, your team surrounded the table, all looking at the piece of paper that they choose. Penelope had earnestly begged everyone to get involved for Christmas and that meant secret Santa. You looked at the familiar name engraved into the paper, in shiny glittery ink, a heart over the ‘i’. Emily. You had the one person you were hoping for, and you hoped you could keep your face blank for the time being. However, you could feel your lip twitching slightly, a pleasant smile wanting to break out on your face.
Derek snickered, raising your eyebrows you risked a glance at him. A smirk graced his lips as he toss back his head. Penelope disturbed the silence again as she reminded everyone that they have until the 20th of December and the spending limit is $50.00.

Heavy Hearts Ch 14
Tumblr media
Casey Novak x reader (previous and eventual) warnings: language, minor alcohol consumption, hurt, toxic family.
At this point it felt like all you could do was go through the motions, silently accepting whatever fate it was that the universe held for you. You were so downtrodden it didn’t really matter anymore; you were a shell of a human being at this point, barely hearing what your parents were saying while you discussed the move to the Lexington’s along with the rest of your future over breakfast. You barely felt your father kiss the top of your head before disappearing to work, your mother continuing to lecture as she pretended to clean the kitchen before you were finally able to disappear upstairs.
It didn’t take long to get your things packed; you’d basically been living out of suitcases until you were to head back to Boston anyways. Considering your change of lifestyle if you were staying in DC you filled another bag with the rest of your clothes, the dresses, the fancier pieces of your wardrobe that you knew you’d need for garden parties, galas and the like. You were honestly surprised when Brock knocked at your bedroom door, greeting you with a warm smile and a half-caff latte, asking what he could help with, part of you had assumed he would simply send one of his drivers over. Instead you were met with someone who was actually interested in you and your life, while your plan had been to just bring clothes and the personal items you’d brought home from school, you ended up going through a few boxes of things packed up from your childhood. You surprised yourself as you laughed over an elementary school yearbook, photo albums that your parents had kept from birthday parties and the like. Packing became a task left forgotten, Brock’s arm loosely around your waist as the two of you sat on the edge of your bed looking back on memories of happier times where responsibilities and real life problems didn’t exist.
“Our kid’s gonna have spectacular birthdays.” He murmured, pressing a soft kiss to the side of your head.
“They better.” You replied with a small laugh, flipping the album shut, “I expect multiple bouncy houses.”
“The yard will be filled with bouncy houses darlin, believe me.”
“Yeah?” You asked, standing from the bed as he did.
“Yeah.” His hand cupped at your cheek, thumb softly stroking at your skin, “hey, I know this is scary, but we’re gonna have the best kid, and they’re gonna have the best life. I promise.” He ducked down to kiss your cheek quickly, “let’s get these bags out to the car.”
“Oh, I can take—” You reached out for one and he chuckled.
“I’ve got it sweetheart, can’t have you doing any heavy lifting right now.” His hand rubbed over your stomach for a moment too long and you felt a jolt shoot through you, a wave of nausea accompanying it. “You okay?”
“Yeah.” You flashed him a tight smile, “let’s go.”
He was a few steps ahead of you when you reached the door, taking the bags that had accumulated there out to the car while you’d stopped to talk to Larissa. She reminded you that she would always be there to talk, to support you and you thanked her for that. You heard the sound of a car on the gravel and your brow scrunched as you looked out onto the driveway, your head tilting at the sight of your brother half jogging up the steps.
“What’re you doing here?” You asked and his hand shot out to your left one, pulling it up into his eyeline before looking up at you bewilderedly.
“So it’s true?”
“What?”
“Mom called all ecstatic about the engagement announcement, saying how happy she was that it was going to be a double announcement. What the fuck?!”
“Wow, I know it’s not exactly ideal but I’d expect a congratulations at the very least.” You huffed, tugging your hand out of his.
“A congratulations is in order when you’re happy about something. You cannot tell me you’re happy about this!”
“Ethan…” you looked up at him with tired eyes, “please. I don’t have the energy to do this anymore. I’m pregnant, with his kid.”
“So what about Harvard?”
“It’s not just about me anymore.” You took a breath, ducking your gaze before looking back up at him, “only caring about myself went out the window the moment that test came back positive. The only thing I have to worry about now is making sure this baby has the life that it deserves. One with two parents, a full family, grandparents, happy Christmases, fun birthdays… If I need to sacrifice part of myself, things that make me happy, then so be it. What I want is no longer important, it’s all for the baby.”
“Are you even listening to yourself? You sound insane.” He scoffed, “just get out of here, now. Hell I’ll drive you to the airport myself.”
“Ethan I can’t!”
“You’re not trapped here.” He urged and you rolled your eyes.
“I am. If I leave, mom and dad are locking my bank account.”
“So? I’ll help you.”
“And what? You think they won’t figure that out? It’s not like they’d just give you my trust fund. Once they realized you were helping me you’d get cut off too, and you’ve got a whole life a head of you, wedding, honeymoon, Sarah… please… you don’t need to worry about me and the mistakes I’ve made. I’m fine. Things are going to be fine. I’ve just got a new life path that I need to follow.” You shrugged, “whether you support it or not is up to you.” You gently shoved passed him, pausing on the steps when you heard him speak again.
“What the hell happened to you?”
You turned back, a look of near betrayal on your features as you studied him for a moment, “I came home. Because you wanted me to.”
Ethan let out a scoff, shaking his head as anger surged through him, “that’s fucking cold. Are you really blaming me for everything happening to you just because you couldn’t keep your fucking legs closed?! I didn’t do any of this. You fucked your life up all on your own!”
“Oh fuck you Ethan!”
“Fuck me? Fuck you! I mean, look at you, you’ve become one of them, you’re never going to be better than any of the trophy wives you constantly claim you hate. So go! Go live your picture perfect life like some bimbo.”
“I thought you had my back…” You muttered, trying to ignore the emotions surging through you.
“I don’t even know you anymore.” It was his turn to push passed you as he jogged off to his car, leaving you to huff out a breath before traipsing down the steps to Brock’s.
“Everything okay?” He asked as you slid into the passenger seat.
“Can we just go?” You replied, trying to hold back the shake in your voice, bracing your elbow on the window sill, your eyeline directed out of it. You felt the warmth of Brock’s hand gently squeezing your thigh and in that moment the comfort of that gesture was exactly what you needed. Your free hand actually reached out, slipping your hand into his and squeezing softly, in return he brought your hand up to his lips, kissing the back of it as he shifted the car into drive. “Thank you.” You murmured.
The drive over to his place wasn’t long, not far from your parents house and once he pulled up you offered to help but he quickly declined, kissing your forehead insisting that he and the housekeeper had things handled. The guest house was gorgeous, entering into the open living room on the left, island and kitchen on the right, a long hallway past that connecting to another three bedrooms, a home office and a back entrance to the yard. While it wasn’t exactly how you were expecting to spend the next year, you couldn’t really complain. Brock had taken your bags into the main bedroom, leaving you at the island as you contemplated over the argument with your brother, wondering how much of it he actually meant. He suddenly wrapped around you from behind, a soft kiss pressed to the side of your neck.
“You alright?” He asked, turning you in his arms, “what happened back there?”
“Ethan being a fucking dick.” You replied with a huff, ducking your gaze and his hand gently titled your face up to his.
“Hey… brothers can be assholes sometimes. And I mean…he was always kind of a dick.”
“I know.” You let out a breath, “I get that sometimes he doesn’t understand my life, but… the shit he said today pushed way worse than he usually would.” When you glanced back up at him you couldn’t help the tears welling in your eyes.
“Oh sweetheart.” His hand squeezed at yours, “you don’t have to talk to him anymore if you don’t want to. I get it, Archer’s a fucking moron too. If you don’t want Ethan around I’ll make sure he stays away.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I mean, it’s my job too protect you now, right?” He stated and you let out a watery laugh, rolling your eyes.
“I guess so.”
“Then I’m gonna do it.”
“Thank you.” You repeated, “I just…. God.. I thought he actually gave a shit. He was the last person I thought had my back.”
“Hey…. Hey…” Brock’s hands softly squeezed at your shoulders, “I’ve got you okay?” He waited until you looked up at him, a genuine look in his eyes as he cupped your cheeks, wiping away the stray tears, “I know your parents made some ridiculous rules and I think it’s beyond fucking stupid they’re not letting you finish your degree because you’re brilliant. I told them I’d happily go out to Boston with you but they turned it down.”
You felt your heart nearly stop in your chest, looking up at him bewildered, “you…. You would do that for me?”
“Sweetheart…” he stroked at your cheek, “I would do anything for you.”
“Oh…” you gazed off into the distance, “I guess I never really realized…”
“How crazy I was about you?” He chuckled softly, leaning down to kiss you, “you, and now this baby? You’re my entire world, you’re all that matters.” He kissed your forehead gently, “now how about dinner? You must be hungry?
“Oh what?” You laughed, “you’re actually going to cook?”
“I mean if you want something fancy I’ll call a chef.” He laughed back, moving into the kitchen, “but I was thinking something easy. You still love grilled cheese?”
“Uh.. yeah..” You smiled, a warmth blooming through your chest, “yeah I do. I can’t believe you remembered that.”
“Well,” Brock moved toward you, kissing your temple once again before nudging you toward the living room, “how about you go get comfortable, I’ll get dinner ready.”
You settled into the corner of the couch, flicking through the channels until you found something worth watching, the sounds of Brock clattering around in the kitchen behind you. You briefly heard him muttering on the phone in between sizzles of the stove and it wasn’t much longer he was rounding the side of the couch, plate of food set onto the coffee table and he handed you a large mug of tea that you thanked him for. He returned a moment later with the second plate and a beer for himself, making himself comfortable on the couch beside you. There wasn’t much for conversation, attentions on the television and you were, once again, utterly lost in your own mind. You felt like you were living in a simulation, like none of this was actually real and maybe you were about to wake up and be back at Harvard. That all of this was some insane stress dream thanks to exams and end of year papers. You finished your dinner, leaning back against the couch and your body nearly tensed when Brock tossed an arm around you, his fingers tickling at the skin between your shirt and pants.
“Mom set up a doctors appointment for you tomorrow.” He commented, picking up his second beer, “gotta make sure everything’s healthy, get you on the right vitamins.”
“Thanks.” You replied with a sigh.
“You want your mom there?”
“Ugh, no.” You grumbled and he chuckled, “she’ll just end up trying to control everything and then we’ll start fighting and that never ends well.”
“Well my mom offered to go if you wanted that instead?” He glanced down at you, a small smile on his face and you let out a little breath, “might be nice having someone who’s gone through this already in the room. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m pretty clueless.”
“Uh… yeah, that sounds good. Thanks.”
“She’ll be thrilled.” He tugged you closer to him, leaving a kiss on the top of your head and you were fine with that for a moment before his hand began to wander, disappearing under the hem of your shirt. At first, considering the conversation you were hoping it was just going to rest on your stomach, but his fingers began tickling higher and you took the opportunity you had to slip out of his grasp. Picking up the dishes from the table you stepped around the couch,
“Listen, I’m pretty wiped. It’s been a long day, I need to shower still, I think I’m gonna head to bed.” Moving through the kitchen you made sure everything found its way into the dishwasher before glancing up over the island.
“I could always join you in the shower?” Brock offered with a cocked brow and you let out an awkward laugh.
“Not… tonight.”
“Your loss.” He grinned, “make yourself at home darlin’, I’ll probably be up late.”
“Don’t worry about it.” You mustered up a smile for him before quickly disappearing down the hallway.
In the midst of the bomb going off you’d missed a very key part of what becoming engaged to Brock Lexington would involve. You’d accepted that you would never get you law degree, you figured it would be feasible to play the role of trophy wife, of the doting stay at home mom once your baby got here. You’d show up to the events, smile for the cameras, likely end up on playdates with other parents whose aspirations were completely the opposite of yours. And you’d accepted all of that, you were willing to make those sacrifices. But Brock was going to want something more, the something that had gotten you in this situation in the first place. Your saving grace up to this point was that you had zero memory of having sex with him, it was as if it never happened, you were able to ignore it.
You let out a shudder as you stepped into the bathroom, making sure the door was locked before you stripped down and got into the shower, scrubbing a little extra tonight. You were smart, you could handle this, figure out an array of excuses to keep his hands off you. He was a politician, more than half of them cheated on their so called perfect wives all the time. You said a silent prayer that he would keep to his sleezy ways and fall into that pile with the rest of them.
Once you were sure you couldn’t get any cleaner, and exhaustion really was taking over you dried yourself off with the fluffiest of towels and tugged on your pyjamas, wandering back into the bedroom. You could hear the tv still playing off in the living room as you slipped under the covers, letting out a sigh as you dropped back into the plush bed. You tried to keep the thoughts and emotions at bay, which wasn’t hard at this point, you were so incredibly numb to all of it so you were able to curl up into a ball and let sleep takeover. You weren’t sure how many hours later it was when you felt the bed dip with Brock’s weight, rousing you ever so slightly from your dreams. An arm was loosely tossed around your waist and you were back asleep before you could even move.
**
It had been nearly two months since Casey had said her tearful goodbye to you outside the dorms at Harvard and she was finally at the point where grief seemed to no longer be eating away at her. She’d been able to throw herself into work, though she knew she was indulging in a little bit too much wine in the evenings. Her parents had suggested a weekend out in the Hampton’s to enjoy the summer weather and she’d gone along with it. The ocean was calming, the sound of the waves often soothing her to sleep each night and the running paths were the best early in the morning before the rest of the town started their lazy days. She was just coming back from one of said runs, closing the door quietly behind her as she kicked off her shoes, wandering through the house to the kitchen.
“Hey.” She greeted her parents, pulling down a cup to fill up with water before she circled around to the table as they returned her greetings. The daily paper was spread across the table and thanks to her work interning and future career, she’d been keeping up with the going ons in the world. As she dropped down into an empty chair she reached out, pulling a section that her parents were done with toward her.
“Oh sweetheart!” Grace immediately reached out, “don’t…”
“Why?” She questioned back, flipping through the paper, “big whoop, the Calhoun’s hosted another silent auction, that’s a biweekly experience.” She laughed, flipping the page over, pulling the paper out of reach of her mother as she tried to grab at it.
That was when she saw it, your face staring back up at her. Her brow furrowed, eyes flitting up to the title of the article and she felt her heart sinking all the way into the pit of her stomach. You were on the arm of who she could only guess was Brock, she recognized your brother from a picture you’d had up in the dorm, assuming Sarah was the girl beside him. The entire thing was an over the top, braggy double engagement announcement.
“You can’t be serious…” She muttered, scanning through the article.
“I told you we should have thrown it out.” Ben grumbled, glancing towards his wife who rolled her eyes.
“She would’ve found out anyways.” She turned to Casey, “I guess this confirms the cheating suspicion…”
“Yeah..” Casey mumbled, her eyes examining you, as if she could get verbal answers from a black and white photo, “part of me was holding onto this little hope that I was just going crazy.” She continued reading through the announcement, “wait… she’s not coming back to school?”
“What?” Grace asked.
“It says here she’s moved in with him, that she’s staying in DC. I mean that’s where his career is, but what about hers? That doesn’t make any sense.”
“Maybe she’s finishing her degree out there.” Ben offered, squeezing at her shoulder, “at least this means you won’t have to see her all the time at school this year.”
“I guess.” Casey huffed, dropping back into the chair as the paper fell to the table in front of her.
If you’d asked her, she’d admit that there was a tiny glimmer still in her heart. One that, despite being angry and feeling incredibly hurt with how you’d ended things was holding on to the thought of the two of you running into each other at Harvard. That you’d be able to reconcile, that her fragile heart would be able to handle it and that she would be able to trust you again. She knew the moment she said she never wanted to hear from you again that it was likely you were going to move on with your life, that you would eventually meet someone else and she would have to deal with seeing you with them, happy like she’d imagined you could have been together. She just wasn’t prepared for it to be so soon, for you to have already moved on with a ring on your finger.
“I need to shower.” She muttered, letting out a heavy sigh before she pushed away from the table.
“Case!” Grace called out before she could hit the bottom of the stairs, “I know it seems hopeless right now but you’ll find your happy ever after. I promise.”
“Yeah..” She managed back a small smile before bounding up the stairs to try and erase the image of your face from her brain yet again. She wondered if it was always going to be like this. That every time she had managed to start to forget you, you would pop back up in her life in some way, even more so, she wondered if she was going to be able to handle that. How you’d so effortlessly cut her out of your life and moved on she wasn’t sure she’d ever be able to understand.
