How social media has helped families, social workers and the government in discerning information during calamities?
Tumblr media
Social media is one of the popular use in order to connect globally towards the people around the world. It plays an important role in disseminating information during calamities or disaster. It allows people to share and exchange information during a calamity and ask for help. Through social media, every family during a calamity can easily communicate with their relatives from other places. Through Facebook, Messenger and other forms of social media, they can also give or send warnings and updates to notify their family members and relatives so they can prepare and be reminded of the precautionary measures during a calamity. Meanwhile, social workers become more aware and informed about the degree of situation of what they have to go through and what kind of response they have to give during a calamity. On the other hand, through social media, the government are able to ask help from the government of other countries to send aid to the affected areas. The government then can spread or disseminate information with the use of social media. The rise of social media as a fast and effective means of information sharing has changed the way individuals and organizations communicate, and we can't change the fact that social media are becoming part of our lives.
Tumblr media
InĀ favorĀ ofĀ modernĀ andĀ "improved"Ā waysĀ ofĀ accessingĀ news,Ā suchĀ asĀ socialĀ networks,Ā blogs,Ā andĀ applications,Ā oldĀ mediaĀ (television,Ā radio,Ā andĀ print)Ā isĀ becomingĀ aĀ second-tierĀ commodity. Finding information via social media is much more convenient today than it was in the past, when we relied on television, radio, and printed media. With social media, one can get real time updates during a calamity anywhere and anytime while with the traditional media you can only get access to news if you are at home or in a place with television and radio. TraditionalĀ mediaĀ onlyĀ allowsĀ forĀ aĀ one-way discussion,Ā soĀ thereĀ isĀ noĀ wayĀ forĀ aĀ personĀ toĀ shareĀ hisĀ orĀ herĀ viewsĀ onĀ currentĀ affairs.Ā SocialĀ networking,Ā onĀ theĀ otherĀ hand,Ā allowsĀ forĀ aĀ two-wayĀ dialogue,Ā allowingĀ usersĀ toĀ exchangeĀ andĀ shareĀ informationĀ withĀ others. The down side of social media is that the news coming from this are not always reliable compared to traditional media in which the content are polished by professionals or experienced people in the field. The advertising world definitely has moved more towards new media, but most old media is very much alive and well.

"The Juans - Manalangin (Official Music Video)"
youtube
https://youtu.be/0h_DAmHnsK8
To give comfort, The Juans wrote a song for these trying times and thatā€™s the inspirational ā€œManalangin.ā€ Manalangin is released on March 29, 2020, composed by The Juans lead singer and keyboardist Carl Guevarra, it is an anthemic alt-rock tune with a heartening melody. What he came up with is the anthemic ā€œManalangin,ā€ in essence, a song of hope with the universal message that it is always darkest before dawn, and that together as one, we can get through the current difficulties.ā€
Most people say music is a universal language which gives it the ability to affect change and encourage unity. The lyrics, the tune, and the musician's interpretation all blend together to create a conversation that's palatable to all ears. During these uncertain times, songs of hope keep us sane and inspired. That's why artists like The Juans find it fitting to create a beautiful poetry that sends a message.
'Manalangin' is the latest single of the band which expresses the significance of unity and power of prayer. It's a slow, uplifting worship piece that attempts to calm down spirits in the midst of chaos. Inspired is the only way I can describe how Manalangin was created. This song turned out to be very special.
I featured it on my blog because it inspired me a lot. It gives comfort and it creates a beautiful and inspiring message. What really caught my attention though is how the words articulated thoughts and feelings that are inside all of us right now. This song depicts hope and a nationā€™s resilience, and expresses the significance of unity and power of prayer. The Juans delivers the message of hope pretty clear solidarity- in prayers and in good deeds- would soon spark hope. There is light, after all. All that we can only do is pray. ā¤ļøšŸ™
