other observations:
yes, Toshiro is a doofus, Laois and Falin are the same and Toshiro only likes Falin so much because she's pretty and he doesn't actually listen to the things she says, and also the man's allergy to communication is of the severity that could send someone running for an Epi-pen
and also I too have reacted extremely foolishly when I've gone too long without food and good sleep, especially in reaction to someone telling me I need more food and better sleep (gee, why didn't I think of that?!) so I can't even be mad at him flipping shit at someone who can't even get his fucking name right. They do fortunately work through it, but the Laios v. Toshiro fight is ESH.
and also the part where Laios is trying to bring himself to strike Falin down and she goes "big brother Laios...?" was so strongly reminiscent of Ninaxander that my ears were braced for "wanna play?" It's not the first time I've wondered if Kui is a fan of FMA.

I'm on a one-day watch delay because my 'only have 30 minutes of free time' day is now Thursday, but the lil headpat Falin gave the axefighter from Kabru's party before she picked her up by the head and bare-handed strangled her did some things to my emotions that I'm not proud to admit

Once while I was at work a grown ass man told me "no matter how tough you act you'll never be a man, just like I'll never be a woman" and I know he MEANT like "I'm tougher than you because women are weak" but I heard it in Queer and went "Oh.... sweetheart" and he just completely recoiled it was insane

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.

The guy who got super defensive yesterday when I gently but firmly (and accidentally) pointed out he was making me repeat everything I said multiple times called back twice today (first time got one of the guys I work with, who reported having a similar experience re: being not listened to, second time I got him and he started by insisting I pass him to two people who aren't even employed at my company) and uh.
I'm not even annoyed anymore.
What I am now is deeply concerned for this man's wellbeing.
He didn't remember speaking to me yesterday (i'll take it; that conversation went badly), he seemed pretty embarrassed when I explained why I couldn't transfer him to the people he requested, and he sounded very unsure and ashamed for the entire call. Like.... buddy, I don't know why your company is making you handle this, but you probably need to at least be on leave...

Astrology's weird bc if you've only ever had fun with it and come across someone w seething hatred for it you're understandably like, what the fuck is this person's problem? But also if you've seen someone take it Too Far, any mention of it understandably becomes a red flag
Like imagine if you really liked Pokemon and you're like, "I really don't see why people would hate this unless they're just assholes for no reason?" Like it's a totally normal opinion opinion to have. But also imagine if you took a quiz and learned you were a Bug type and people stopped talking to you because they were like "It's in your nature to be emotionally manipulative." It would also be totally normal to be like "Oh okay fuck Pokemon fans then."
Now you may be like, "But the latter situation doesn't happen!" and that tells me you are fortunate because you have not dealt with the worst that the west coast of America has to offer

[Image description: gif of the moment from Dungeon Meshi where Falin, her torso now fused with the body of the Red Dragon and covered in white feathers, tramples another character to death with the front feet of her dragon half. Her human arms are held delicately out to either side, her facial expression is eerily calm, and her breasts bounce from the impact of the landing. End description.]

people say folks with adhd struggle with "delayed rewards" aka long term goals and as such we tend to focus more on short term rewards. what they don't talk about is that at when we Do accomplish long term goals we don't actually feel anything proportionate to the amount of work we did to achieve it. In my head I suffered for a while and then money spontaneously appeared in my bank account.

Ok so today I was on the bus with another trans guy and we were talking about how hard it is to get testosterone. The waiting lists, the price, all the doctors you have to go to, that kind of stuff. Except, we were calling it ’T’, like you do when you’re both closeted and in public.
Then suddenly the elderly lady sitting behind us was like ‘young men, either I’m going crazy or you both have never heard of supermarkets, they have shelves full of tea there! Do you need directions to one?’
To which my buddy starts to explain, because why not. ‘Well you see, we’re both trans, and… ’
The lady didn’t wait for him to finish his sentence. ‘Oh no, I don’t mind that at all! Now do you want to know how to get to a place that sells tea? I’m actually heading there right now!’
We let her take us to the supermarket. We let her show us, excitedly, where the tea was. We both bought loads.

not sure what kind of special bubble wrap you have to be insulated in your entire life to be appreciably wounded by the ~meanness~ of a tone-neutral 'as previously stated' preceding the fifth time you've made someone repeat themself, but I promise you if I'd been willing to throw away my job in order to demonstrate it, an ounce of actual meanness from me would likely have killed you instantly, or at least been the verbal equivalent of holding your hands down on hot stove burners. Let's both be grateful that I love my job so much and maybe practice our active listening techniques going forward from this evidently traumatic phone call.

i think its so funny that alumni from schools like harvard and columbia that were there during the protests in the 60s-80s are expressing support for students currently protesting against the genocide in palestine, and random zionists that were NOT at these protests in the 60s-80s have the never ending audacity to tell these alumni "well thats different, what you protested was good and what they're protesting is bad." as if protesters against the vietnam war and apartheid south africa were not also demonized, arrested, brutalized, and even killed for their activism. history only remembers them fondly after the damage has already been done.
