Okay! So I’m starting my conversion path to Judaism! I’m going to be attending these classes in 2022, but I need some money if I want to take the classes 🙃. some updates on me:

Here’s the thing to remember about anti-racist book lists:

Read these, yes. But then read books that were not written as treatises on racism. Seek out Black art not only because it can teach you something about race but because Black people are simply doing extraordinary work.

Read Morrison as much for her prose and her mastery of pacing as for her politics. Read Ross Gay’s Book of Delights, an ode to little wonders and a reminder to look at the world with gratitude. Read Elizabeth Alexander’s stunning testament to grief and marriage, The Light of the World, and note the innovations in form as she mixes memoir with poetry and recipes, a collage meant to mirror her late husband’s paintings. Read NK Jemisin’s The Fifth Season and marvel at the worlds she builds.

Just a small reminder. Black art does not exist solely to educate non-Black people. Always be expanding your horizons.

Relating to that last post, “A Guest for Mr Spider” might be one of the most depressing eps of the entire series (probably not the most unpopular or original take).

Just Jon’s childhood in of itself without any supernatural shenanigans. Orphaned at a young age and raised by a woman that while not cruel was unable to give him the love a child deserves due to her own grief and resentment. While acknowledging that it was wrong, still shrugging off being bullied by an adult twice his age because he was “a deeply annoying child.” Calling being beaten and robbed by this bully “standard stuff”.

Not only feeling *guilty* that this bully died, but crediting him with saving his life because an adult bully’s act of cruelty against a literal child blew back in his face. Believing that if *he’d* been the one to face the Spider he would’ve survived, creating a lifelong habit of pushing people away and rushing to take on things by himself, a trait that eventually made it easier to manipulate him into situations that set the stage for the literal end of the world.
