トーキョー・天使の詩 Tokyo Tenshi no Uta translation by yours truly
I listened to this song last not and thought it sounded easy to translate so I did it in like twenty minutes which means it's probably not good. Grain of salt as always. Was fun to do as my friends are making a short film rn so it was cool to see the film terms in Japanese idk. ENJOY!!!

Niijyu yonkai tataite
Knocking on the advent calendar door twenty-four times,
ベッドで寝ぼけまなこのパパ

Ohayou no kisu o shite
My sleepyhead daddy in bed gets a good-morning kiss

I put up the ornaments, and the tree lights too
キッチンでママのお手伝い

I lend a hand to mommy in the kitchen,
But even then you tell me;

“Daddy’s job is Santa Claus
Today I’ve gotta deliver presents”
秘密だよってパパ 言うけど

Daddy said it’s a secret,
But nobody would believe me anyways
うちでは普通のパパだもん

Uchi dewa futsu no papa damon
Itsumo tsukareteru papa damon
‘Cus at home, he’s my plain-old daddy
‘Cus he’s my daddy who’s always tired

But, he’s really Santa Claus

The same snow will come down, so*
今夜が楽しい人にも

Konya ga tanoshii hito ni mo
Sabishii sabishii hito ni mo
Tonight, to all the people having fun,
And to all the lonely, lonely people

Merry Merry Merry Christmas
I’ll wish you too a Merry Merry Merry Christmas
おかしいよって君は言うけど
おかしなパパを許して

You tell me I’m weird, but please forgive your weird daddy
トナカイの楽器隊と

Because with a backing band of reindeer,
I’ll wrap up the venue floor in ribbons

今夜は嬉しい人にも

Tonight, for all the happy people,
And for all the sad, sad people

The same song will come on, so*
今夜は笑顔の人にも

Konya wa egao no hito ni mo
Naiteru naiteru hito ni mo
Tonight, to all the smiling people,
And to all the crying, crying people

Merry Merry Merry Christmas
Iiu yo kimi ni mo
Merry Merry Merry Christmas
I’ll wish you too a Merry Merry Merry Christmas
あなたに
Merry Merry Merry Christmas
Anata ni
Merry Merry Merry Christmas
I wish you a Merry Merry Merry Christmas
TRANSLATION NOTES
* the furu/降る in both these parts is usually used to describe precipitation falling, ie snow, so in chorus B it’s more.. poetic? symbolic? idk it’s nice<3 i tried to translate it in a way where the lines still have connection while sounding respectively natural
merry crisis!!!/メリー苦リスマス!!!
i used to be a christmas hater but now, because of this song, i can cope with it. btw the true meaning of christmas is not capitalistic gift giving, or jesus, or any of that, it’s how cute santa papa temma is. amen🙏

(Continue to the written story)***
TRANSLATION NOTES/PERSONAL INTERPRETATION
*this write/erase motif seems to come up in jp lyrics a lot, but while researching all i found was that it could be citing the line "恋、と書いたら、あと、書けなくなった。/As for love… no, having once written that word I can write nothing more." in osamu dazai's novel the setting sun. which, WOULD make sense, but i'm not entirely convinced so. shrugs.
**the "valley of tears" line seems like it MAY be a reference to a text by a medieval dominican friar. of all things. The Sinner's Guide/La Guía de Pecadores was written by louis of granada in 1555, but was brought by missionaries to early christian communities in nagasaki and translated in 1599. also mekuru is turning/flipping through pages but mekumekuru is to blind or dazzle so i wanted to convey both.
***this part isn't said out loud, and the "lalala" that is isn't in the written lyrics
also worth mentioning that "nouveau roman" itself refers to a 1950s wave of experimental french novels. i think that with the themes of conflicting history and present, and the literary angle, it could all mean…rather than being restrained by the written past, write your own future... maybe!

不惑惑惑-Fuwakuwakuwaku Eng. Lyric Translations Masterpost
Today (in Japan), August 12th, is Urbangarde's leader and certified babygirl Temma Matsunaga's birthday! To celebrate, I've attempted to translate the entirety of his third and most recent solo album, Fuwakuwakuwaku. I'd be really happy if you gave it a listen and read along!
Note: I cannot stress enough that I'm a complete amateur doing this for fun and have no idea what I'm doing, so please forgive me if there's inaccuracies or mistakes. Mr. Matsunaga's lyrics are incredibly complex and multifaceted, so learning Japanese by translating them (like i'm doing) is kind of like learning to swim by being thrown into the ocean♡ In fact, if you notice anything I got wrong or missed, please DM me so I can fix it and thank you for your help! Please consider these translations as living documents, subject to change lol. I hope to add the original lyrics for comparison as well as romaji later🙏
そうだろうどうだろう/Isn't it? Doesn't it?
バニーガールアーミー/BUNNY GIRL ARMY
推さないで/Don't Push Me
セクシー・ハラジュク/SEXY HARAJUKU
ナイトサファリ/Night Safari
ぼくたちは失敗/We are Failures
キリスト・ロック/Christ Rock
パフェ評論/Parfait Critique
君とは結婚すると思ってたんだ/I thought I would marry you

不惑惑惑 -FUWAKU WAKUWAKU
NOTE: this song piles on the double meanings and multiple valid readings even more than the average temma lyrics, ESPECIALLY in regards to the title/thesis statement. usually i’d keep all notes until after the song but it cannot be translated in any succinct way; so i’m gonna do a little pre-translation breakdown with hopes that it’ll help you assess the vibes (and appreciate temmy’s genius);
不惑 can be read as 40 years old, 惑 can be read with a meaning of bewilderment and confusion, 不 can have a meaning of negation like “un-” or “non-”. so that could also be like “unafraid”, and on top of that, it also can be read as “following the right path” which i think is interesting with the car/route imagery in the MV (and subsequent symbolism/metaphor for one’s life path BUT ANYWAYS). 惑惑 has the phonetic sounds わくわくwhich is an onomatopoeia term that means excited (with a positive connotation). the kanji is also repeated in various bits throughout the song in different words with different contexts and different readings so look out.
TLDR that 4 character phrase contains the feeling of “mid-life crisis but actually make it slay”? there’s honestly more meanings you can fit into it too that’s enough for now. galaxy brain stuff.
Colliding on a curve right before forty, a narcissistic failure of a person got into a crash
At this rate, it seems this is how I’ll die, so I’ll sing freely; Fuwakuwakuwaku
Waku, Waku, Wakuwakuwaku…
Lost my morals from a life of unlicensed driving, a moratorium* middle-ager
I can’t even get a credit card, I can’t even sign an autograph, I even forgot my name; Fuwakuwakuwaku
Waku, Waku, Wakuwakuwaku…
Unburnable trash with a white dream
Burn me up on Monday morning, please
From the wife and child I’ve never had,
Old parents and young women too, I’m getting pushed around by all of them, surely;
How exciting, this lonely and mysterious planet!
Each time I look in the mirror, every time I shave, I’m somebody’s slave**
How exciting, to pass forty on this perplexing planet is
Something no one knows, and they don’t wanna know
So, that’s MISTER old man to you!***
How Fuwakuwakuwaku is that!
Waku, Waku, Wakuwakuwaku…
Winners and losers, blooming flowers and their fertilizers, widows of youth flocking at salons
At this rate it seems they’ll all get sucked up like this, so for those guys’ sake; Fuwakuwakuwaku
Waku, Waku, Wakuwakuwaku…
A male praying mantis overjoyed to get eaten by a female (cold sweat emoji)
Lying about your income on a dating app while tied up in a warehouse; Fuwakuwakuwaku
Pink-drenched organic waste
Let it sink down into Tokyo Bay
Together with a lover who hasn’t been around for so long,
Traveling the scenic route with a mistress, an accomplice, oh, wouldn’t you please have sympathy for a lover’s suicide?****
Let’s get excited, on this bizarre and mysterious planet!
It’s all dead stock reflected in a display window, lowly me and my era too
Let’s get excited, to pass forty on this perplexing planet is
The wifi signal can’t connect, won’t connect
You gotta have guts and hang tight,
‘Cause it’s Fuwakuwakuwaku, right?!
If you’ve got a mic, doesn’t it feel like karaoke?
How gross it is to keep going on about myself,
Taking selfies, acting contrarian, lashing out, it’s so over
Stop it, stop it, make it stop!
How exciting, this lonely and mysterious planet!
Every time I shave, I start bleeding, I’m a slave to myself**
How exciting, passing forty on this perplexing planet is
Something you can’t find, and you don’t wanna see,
Open the window of society!*****
That’s Fuwakuwakuwaku!
Waku, Waku, Wakuwakuwaku…
Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid
(more) TRANSLATION NOTES
as mentioned before, this song is so packed with multiple meanings, that i just kinda gave up and made it a more liberal translation. i hope i could still convey everything properly, and again, if you catch any references or significant other meanings that i missed, lmk! thank you. stan temma. she fu on my waku til i wakuwaku.
* loanword term that, as it suggests, although it usually refers to young adults, means a person who doesn’t want to grow up or has a delayed adolescence (i’m in this picture and i don’t like it.
** two alternate readings (シモベ in chorus 1 and 3, ヤツガレ in chorus 2) are provided for the common masculine pronoun 僕 repeated in these parts, which come from more archaic humble self-referential language, and/or can be read as/shares readings with kanji for “slave/manservant”.
*** literally it’s “add a -san to that oji” (y’know, ojisan) but we have fun:)
**** this bit is going to drive me insane. 道行き=can just mean to travel down a path, but has a poetic vibe, and can also mean to elope. 道連れ=means travelling companion, but also can be part of a term for “forcing someone to go with you” especially going, downstaiiiiiiiirs… and most crazy of all 心中 means lover’s/double suicide (as those already urbanpilled may recognise from onepiece shinjuu), but it can also mean “inner feelings” and the phrase 心中お察し致します is a condolences/sympathies-type message. WHEW.
***** this is old slang for a dude unzipping his fly. you learned something new today. yay.

君とは結婚すると思ってたんだ-I thought I would marry you
At that time, when I called you on the phone
And bit back tears trying to say something
That evening, on the terrace of a crowded café
A pure white sugarcube sank and vanished
The hands of time can’t be turned back anymore, right?
Even if you turn back to look, the memory is twisted up
On that sepia photograph, I’ll take your favourite paint
And use it to draw beautiful memories
If I could find normal happiness, I wonder if I could become happy
Because this is the only way that I can live,
Always putting off the end of my youth
I thought I would marry you
“How many kids do you want?” and
“Where should we go on vacation?”,
I thought I’d say those things to you someday, but
You’re already gone
A broken glass will just stay broken
If words pour into it, they’ll only spill out
If tears pour, it’ll only get complicated
Turn the finished page and close this up
If I keep doing this kind of work, I wonder if I can ever make you happy
If I can’t even make the person in front of me laugh,
I can’t make anyone smile at all
I thought that we’d part once more
To you, who returned the extra key and left your seat
I waved my hand like I’d see you again someday
And although I knew we’d never meet again
I kept waving my hand
I thought I would marry you
“How many kids do you want?” and
“Where should we go on vacation?”,
Someday I’d tell you those things, but I was much too late
I thought I would marry you
“I’m good on a ceremony, let’s take a long, long trip instead” and
“Let’s take lots of pictures”,
I thought I’d say those things to you someday, but
I know, you’re already gone

パフェ評論-Parfait Critique
This isn't love, it's a parfait critique
It's only self-righteousness, just a parfait critique
Just scooping up words with a spoon,
All I've done here is a parfait critique
Eat up the parfait
Critique, critique, don’t criticize, ah, eat it up
Eat up the parfait
But don't judge it
You're flawless, spotless, in your ironclad dress
Both metaphysically and physically bewildering me, a Pa-class person
No, that's not it, no, it's definitely more like,
The ideological glass you wear is
A fictional you, a symbolic you,
Because I'm only gazing at you through this glass
The strawberry piercing the peak is a once-in-a-lifetime meeting
The mistake I once made repeats over and over again
This isn't love, it's a parfait critique
It's only self-righteousness, just a parfait critique
Just scooping up words with a spoon, right out of my mouth*
Remaining only as a thought, this parfait review
Writing and erasing the letters of this parfait critique
All the way to the very end, it couldn't leave my mouth**
It's just way too saccharine, this parfait critique
Scoop up the parfait
To be saved, saved, almost like I'm saved, ah, and captivated***
Scoop up the parfait
As if I want to be saved
Your cherry of virtue really contains
A seed of malice that you spit out while smiling
Tying it up with the tip of your tongue,
Like an idea, you tie me down
Chocolate wafers sandwich the empty-minded sky****
Even though, in that seat across from the window, you're not sitting there anymore…
"Once more, this café, this seat, this parting of ways,
Once more, this situation, this scene, this script,
Once more, this town, this shop, this rendezvous
Once more, this love, once more, that love-“
Once more, it’s all the same
It's just staring through a mirror, this parfait critique
I'm just talking to myself, just a parfait critique,
I'm just doling out tears from the tip of my pen, I'm alone, I'm always alone
This isn't love, it's a parfait critique
It's only solitaire, just a parfait critique
Just scooping up words with a spoon, straight out from my mouth
All I'm doing is criticizing, this parfait critique
Only a lonely argument, this parfait critique
And yet I still can't finish it,
All that's been done to you is a parfait critique
Eat up the parfait
Critique, critique, don’t criticize, ah, eat it up
Eat up the parfait
But don't judge it, after all,
Eat up the parfait
Critique, critique, don’t criticize, ah, eat it up
Eat up the parfait
But don't act like you get it
All I've done here is a parfait critique
TRANSLATION NOTES
* the original line, 口にせず, is a phrase that can mean both to eat AND to speak… i tried to pick something more literal that gives a similar impression
** similar to above, a more straightforward translation would be “i couldn’t say it”
*** this bit is HARD… the sound of すくin "scoop" and "salvation is the same, and it’s repeated to create that kind of ambiguous double meaning… i hope this works.
**** this is another turn of phrase, literally meaning “the sky above” but typically meaning “absentminded” or like, “head in the clouds”. it’s a song about a couple who is BAD at communicating but i thought the imagery here also invoked a city skyline so i wanted to try to include both
also… i'm gonna be 100 with you, i don't know what the “pa-group/class person” line means. i'm thinking it might have something to do with the くみ in the "-group" suffix also phonetically meaning "bitter"? but where does the pa come in other than being like, parfait, or, pafect, maybe. is it referencing something? idk. as always if you have any thoughts message me~

キリスト・ロック-Christ Rock
You’re already dead, haven’t you noticed?
The moment you bid that girl farewell, your heart died
You died a while ago, don’t you understand?
Talking about your dreams with a ghost-like face, it’s a sorry sight
The internet is a hang-out of the dead
A businessman in colourful mourning wear
Earns his living by kicking corpses
You should do it the same way
Christ Rock, if you cross yourself
Christ Rock, and disturb the graves*
Christ Rock, if you cross yourself
Christ Rock, I’ll go look for something to criticize
If that girl was dead, wouldn’t you notice?
Selling both her body and heart, taking selfies with a lying face
The internet is one big funeral parlour
Scraping up the ashes of the dead, hardening them
And turning it into diamonds is our business**
You should do it the same way
Christ Rock, do what you wanna do
Christ Rock, I’ll make the corpses dance
The internet is like heaven’s gates
Well then, I don’t wanna go in
Trapped in dead books, it’s a country of rats
Can you tell me I’m wrong?
Christ Rock, if you cross yourself
Christ Rock, and disturb the graves*
Christ Rock, if you cross yourself
Christ Rock, I’ll go look for the hidden prize
TRANSLATION NOTES
* the word 荒らし meaning to disturb or vandalize is also slang for… internet trolling!!!
** the word business is written in kanji as 商売, but with a note to pronounce it as ビジネス/business
"hey, wait a second! this song isn't on streaming!" wow that's crazy you should buy the album. also there is an excellent and contextually hilarious performance of it here.

ぼくたちは失敗-We are Failures
We’re failures
Done a lot of wrongs, done a lot of crimes*
Got a lot of shallow wounds on our wrists
The fact we were even born in the first place,
Has gotta, gotta be a failure
There’s nothing
There’s no getting left on read, but there’s also no reply
If you tap it with your finger, it won’t go away
Even when we die, it’ll never ever go away,
‘Cause we’re def, def, definitely failures
Freedom-having guys are really imprisoned guys
Inside the internet, a marionette
The makeup I wanna do and the proposal I want done to me,
Are all suggested at me, frustration
Hellish guys really seem like heaven
Filtered or unfiltered, let’s just hang out and break out**
If you wanna get a nose lift, then don’t lie about it
Don’t live a lie, don’t keep living at all
God messaged me on LINE***
And told me to send a pic
But I couldn’t reply, with a crying emoji
See, this person too, that person too
That’s right, after all,
We’re failures
Get punished a lot, can’t get it right*
Got a lot of shallow wounds on our wrists
The fact we were even born in the first place,
Has gotta, gotta be a failure
There’s nothing
There’s no sadness, there’s no pain
Even if you slide off the power, it won’t go away
Even if it goes away, it'll never really be deleted
‘Cause we’re def, def, definitely failures
Swallowed by a whale and swimming through the darkness
Getting trapped in the app is a priori
If you wanna make your eyes bigger, then you should cry more
But don’t fake-cry, and don’t go on crying
Anyone is fine, anyone at all
I thought anyone was fine, so I was embraced like that
With an “it’s okay” and a smiling emoji,
See, these guys and those guys, me and you too,
Aren’t we all weird?
That’s why I wanna say…
That’s why I wanna say
I want to say it, I want to say to you,
On this stormy night, I want to run to you and say,
With the neon and signage of the city
As a stage of trash
Because I wanna meet
I wanna meet you, I wanna meet tonight
I wanna meet to tell you just one thing,
It’s not an emo emo emoji,
I wanna say:
We’re failures
Failures again today, failures tomorrow too
Since yesterday, since who knows when, we’ve been failures
Just being alive in the first place,
Has gotta, gotta be a failure
There’s nothing
There’s no hope, there’s no despair
If you tap it with your finger, it won’t go away
Even if it goes away, it'll never really be deleted
But we’re still breathing
Because we’re failures at doing this too
TRANSLATION NOTES
this is a self-cover of a song that was originally written for the idol duo twinpale, so i tried to bring some of that "hello fellow teens" energy
* you might be familiar with batsu(×) and maru (〇) being used as shorthand for incorrect and correct respectively, just like how english speakers use x marks (the same) and check marks. the actual × sign is in the lyrics of the first verse, whereas it’s replaced with the kanji of the same pronunciation and similar meaning (punishment, penalty, etc) in the second, in contrast with the 〇 symbol. more literally that part of the line would be “failed at 〇”. or something.
** “filtered/unfiltered” explicitly refers to selfie filters. in the written lyrics, “break out” (in english) is provided in brackets as a pronunciation for the term 無礼講 meaning informal party (usually pronounced similarly as bureikou, hence the pun)

ナイトサファリ-Night Safari
Under a state of emergency declaration, it’s as if TOKYO is a night safari
Diving into a zebra-print taxi
If we cut through this urban jungle, then
You’re a lion, I’m a hamadryas baboon*
When we throw off our masks, we’re like animals
We’ve got no choice but to kiss like we’re biting
Playing at night, playing with fire, and even merely living became a game in this era
Do you like it risky?
Do you like whiskey?
Do you hate it when the morning comes? wow wow
Please KISS ME
Please KILL ME
Because I don’t hate the things I’m not supposed to do
Broken down in tears at the exit of the host club
You’re a nocturnal creature and your thoughts run wild
Announcing a new species of love in Sing-glish**
That shares traits of an endangered species
I can hear shots ring out at the batting center
The cries of a girl falling flat on a rooftop
The head of Godzilla looking down at the jungle***
Let’s get even more wild! safari night yeah, party night
Under semi-state of emergency measures to prevent the spread, KABUKI CHO is a hotel with a savanna view****
If you dive into a camo-pattern bathtub
And put on the Ride of the Valkyries, then wow wow
You’re a pirarucu, I’m an alligator
Becoming animals that don't need vaccines
We’ve got no choice but to share our alternative life*****
It’s time to stand up and face all the loneliness, poison and sickness that can’t be cured, so
The worst is the best
From the worst to the best
Are you scared of breaking down? wow wow
For the length of this song,
For the length of this tune,
It’s okay to break down
Do you also like it risky?
Do you like whiskey?
Do you hate it when the morning comes? wow wow
Let’s lose the room key
Just forget the card key
Because I don’t like when the night ends
Let’s stay like this, forever
Just like this, forever
TRANSLATION NOTES
general: this song requires some context; japan never had full lockdowns during the pandemic, and although there was strongly recommended government stay-at-home mandates, shinjuku was an area of tokyo that remained relatively active. it already had a reputation as a party city, namely its neighborhood of kabuki-cho (as named in the lyrics) which is a infamous red light district. notably it became a safe haven for teen runaways escaping heightened domestic violence due to shutdowns and other young people in bad situations (well, “safe” is relative lol) but that’s a whole other rabbit hole.
* baboon/ヒヒ is slang for dirty old man! why this specific species? who knows. wow king you know so many weird animals i’m impressed😳
** [EDITED] this is written in katakana the same way as "singlish", which is a singaporean english-based creole language, and the idea of combining two languages to create a new one is, dare i say, romantic (and temmacore). HOWEVER i think a more likely reading is combing the "shi" of "shinjuku" with the "-lish" of a language suffix, which was pointed out to me by @/shindo_shinjuku on twitter!! (しんどうさんありがとうございます!) so in that way, it conveys a type of communication specific to shinjuku... also differentiating between ai and koi here was hard so i gave up
*** there is a giant godzilla head on top of a movie theater in kabukicho.
**** the first part of the original lyric, 蔓延防止等重点措置, afaik was the actual title of japan’s covid policy
***** share as in sharing to social media, posting sense

セクシー・ハラジュク-SEXY HARAJUKU
I want to sexually harass you*
I want to do SEXY HARAJUKU to you
Because in this town, anything at all
Can become stylish, from what I’ve heard
Let me sexually harass you*
Let me do SEXY HARAJUKU to you
Because neither yumekawa or yamiikawa,**
Suit your style at all
All I wanna do is get you worked up
Both what’s in and what’s out,
Are decided by me
Like this city’s rules
All I wanna do is get you wet
It’s purely impure
The way I want to see you is like
This city, laid bare
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
You wore your underwear like wrapping
Somebody’s present, prêt-à-porter
A scrap that I can’t rap at all
Haute couture that can’t become ecriture
I’ll tear off the wrapping of your underwear
Somebody’s present, like a ready-made
Fast fashion and past fashion
Takenoko*** Nameneko**** in the house!
All I wanna do is get you worked up
What’s trendy and what’s out
Really doesn’t matter, so
Let’s just picture it for now
All I wanna do is get you wet
Purity and sensitivity
Somehow, just like this,
You can't stop it, right?
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
All I wanna do is get you worked up
If Takeshita Street and
Omotesando*****
Are both erogenous zones,
All I wanna do is get you wet
At Cat Street and
Laforet Hills too*****
I’ll make you cum in style******
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
SEXY HARAJUKU
I want to sexually harass you*
I want to sexually harass you*
TRANSLATION NOTES
*um. so. セクハラ/sekuhara is short for sexual harassment, and is a commonly used shorthand for it, so really, out of context, this line is “i want to sexually harrass you”, but it also works as shorthand for SEXY HARAJUKU! hence the double entendre of the whole song
**two harajuku fashion trends, literally meaning dreamy cute and dark-cute. they’re cute!
*** refers to Takenokozoku, the name given to a movement of teenagers who’d wear bright flashy outfits and dance in harajuku in the 70’s and 80’s
**** Nameneko was, apparently, a series of extremely popular character goods in the early 80’s that featured pictures of real kittens dressed up as yankees and bosozoku gang members. it also apparently had a revival in popularity recently. this is the most fucked up thing i’ve seen in all my research for this album translation project.
***** these are all places in or near harajuku
****** イカせてあげる is “i’ll make you cum”, but イカす can mean to be cool/stylish, so,
also i just wanted to mention that the MV is a reference to the max headroom incident, which happens to be another special interest of mine, so it makes me super happy:^) tldr guy hijacks a tv station to broadcast his ass getting spanked while wearing a rubber character mask. and temmacore? yes.

推さないで-Don't Push Me
NOTE: the japanese slang term/pretty much direct equivalent to “stanning/to stan” is Oshi, which sounds like the term for to “pushing/to push”. i wish i could translate this song as “Don’t Stan Me”, but unfortunately that would mess up a lot of the clever wordplay and i want to be as accurate as possible so… maybe i’ll make a silly localized version later. for now just replace every instant of “push” with “stan” and “stanning” in your head
I’m an idol, a pretty-girl idol
I can’t fall in love, I’m not permitted to love
I’m messing around with my eyes and nose, I’m lying about my age
All I can drink is water, ‘cus I’m not permitted to get fat either
But really, I’m human too
Just like anyone else, I like you
You said that you like me too, but
Don’t you only like me when I’m standing on stage?
Don’t push me, pull me, draw me in
With the red thread, with the ace of hearts*
Try to pull me in, but don’t, don’t push me
On this lonely planet, as if we’re drawn together,**
I’ll show you what attraction is,
So don’t push me
You’re a fan, and that’s why I’m nervous
Even though you say “I adore you”
You’re buying hearts, buying them with money
Like a god, or a customer, whatever you are, sir,
But it’s not like that, you’re human too
Behind that smile, killing hearts
I want to draw attention, but also to be drawn in
Feel free to push me, a pushing-only relationship
I won’t give it, ‘cause you won’t give it to me
Both blue flowers and four-leaf clovers
If you won’t give it, then I won’t give it to you
Switching from one loneliness to another
But there must be someone… But y’know, y’know
You and I are both content
Surely everyone is someone else’s content
That girl’s tears were yummy today too
I stan it, it’s emo, it’s chill, it’s sus***
Hey,
You say that you like me but
I‘ve left the stage, so will you still like me?
Don’t push me, pull me, draw me in
Be gentle with my red thread, be gentle
Try to pull me in, but don’t, don’t push me
Try to enthral me and bewilder me,
Go ahead and seduce me****
Don’t push me… (x8)
I’m an idol
TRANSLATION NOTES
* you’re probably familiar with the red thread of fate, but if not, it’s a common folklore belief across several east asian cultures wherein an invisible red thread ties two soulmates together.
** the original phrase, 引き合う, can mean both “to pull together/attract” and “to profit”… because that’s showbiz baby
*** this line is several internet slang terms: 推せる we’ve covered, エモい/emoi is, emo, but used less in the strictly negative emotion sense and more in the nostalgic or heartwrenching sense, like “i listened to that song again for the first time in years and got so emo🥺”. チルい/chirui is also literally, chill, and in this sense used for something that’s relaxing or chill to consume. 香ばしい/kobashii literally translates to fragrant, but is apparently ancient internet slang hailing from 2chan for someone who posts weird/cringe/creepy shit. you know, like we’d expect on our end from 4chan. i couldn’t really think of an equivalent period accurate term to describe eng shitposters…
**** the kanji 誘 for invite and 惑 for bewilder come together to make 誘惑, seduce. clever.
"hey, wait a second! this song isn't on streaming!" wow that's crazy you should buy the album.

バニーガールアーミー-BUNNY GIRL ARMY
I watched an ANIMAL VIDEO
The real deal of the Bond Girl thing is super plain
Rather than ABNORMAL, let’s have a NORMAL LOVE
With something like this Mondrian pattern, SA・YO・NA・RA*
Show me a BLOOD FILM
After all, the imported thing of Hollywood stuff is plain
But y’know, rather than a CAT or RAT or RABBIT, even
A BUNNY BUDDY is what I’d like you to be
Look over there, look over here (which?)
Inside the top hat is (a white dove)
But close your eyes, close your eyes (why?)
Because using magic on your lips, (I’m gonna cast a spell)
But look over here, look over there (which?)
In the pocket of my suit is (a white dove)
But close your eyes, close your eyes (one two)
If you count to 3,
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
If you bet on a rabbit, yeah
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
Then the riddle is over, right?
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
With a single machine gun, yeah
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
I’ll make you dance
Stop the ANIMAL VIDEO (STOP!)
The real thing of a Monroe KISS is on the contrary, inversely plain
That’s why, please give me NORMAL, NORMAL feelings
With something like this composition, pretend to O・YA・SU・MI*
Look over there, look over here (which?)
The trump of hearts is (the ace of diamonds)
But look closely, look closely (why?)
Your heart in this trap, (It’s caught in it)
But look over here, look over there (which?)
The face of the coin is (the reverse of the back)
But look closely, look closely (wǔ liù)**
If I snap my fingers
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
With a bunny betrayal, AH
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
My sincerest condolences for cheating YEAH YEAH
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
Firing out napalm, AH
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
I’ll teach you all about warfare
That’s what you’re like, a BUNNY ARMY
Making a cute face, with a missile in your heart
You’re so very, AH, BUNNY ARMY
Come on, show me what tricks you’ve got
If I count to 3
With a wave of my wand
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
If you bet on a rabbit, yeah
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
Then the riddle is over, right, right?
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
With a single machine gun, yeah
BUNNY GIRL ARMY
I’ll make you dance
BUNNY GIRL ARMY XXXX…
TRANSLATION NOTES
on paper, half the lyrics in this song are written using the normal kanji words and then given katakana loan word pronunciations. in other songs i’d make notes for each but ...
* i assumed these were commonly known enough japanese words to leave them as is, but just in case, sayonara=goodbye, and oyasumi=goodnight
** continuing the counting theme, it's "5, 6" in mandarin! i would never have caught this if i hadn't read this note by @025urban on twitter pointing it out! (わかなさんありがとうございます!)

そうだろうどうだろう-Isn’t it? Doesn't it?
(Sorry, at a place like this, ah
Sorry, at a place like this, uh
This is Matsunaga Temma, ah
Sorry, at a place like this, uh
This is Matsunaga Temma, ah)
Hey you, is it your first time coming to a place like this?
Is it your first time having this kind of experience?
I don’t know if this can be called love
‘Cause whether you take a picture or take a video
I really don’t understand you at all
That’s why I’ll make it a song
It’s good to make into a song, isn’t it?
As for me, I wasn’t the kind of guy to do things like that
I wasn’t the kind of guy to do that sort of thing
If you call that love, it’s better not to do it at all
‘Cause hurting each other feels good,
I really don’t understand love at all
That’s why I sing like this
And pretend to get it
Shooting out interjections, shoot ‘em out, shoot ‘em out*
Isn’t that right? How’s that? Is that right?
Hey you, is it your first time hearing this kind of song?
Is it your first time with this kind of first-hand experience?
I have no idea if I can call this kind of thing a song
‘Cause I said it, I said it out loud
Words are always in the wind
But turning it into a song
Is all I can do, all I can do, all I can do
I can’t do much else, so that’s why
Isn’t that right? How’s that? Is that right?
Hey you, is it your first time feeling this kind of good feeling?
Is it your first time feeling this kind of gross feeling?
If it feels gross, then press the stop button right now
If you want to keep going, press the ▲, if you want to record, press the ●
There’s no choice but to call it something like love
So isn’t it fine to call it a song!?
Isn’t it?
Isn’t that right? How’s that? Is that right?
TRANSLATION NOTES
i tried to keep the soudarous and doudarous close to the official english title, but i think by their nature they’re words that change implications based on context… also there’s a few references to temma’s solo debut song and all-time banger love harassment which you should also listen to.
* there’s a specific word, 相槌/aizuchi, for the kind of affirmative responses a listener in a conversation makes, like “uh huh”, "really?", "wow" etc. there actually is an english word for it too, backchanneling, but i’ve never heard it used casually lol

__________________________________________________ Translation by RuukasuUnrio Translation Notes: * For those who are not aware already, the word, “ ワンピース” or “one-piece”, is the word for a dress in Japanese.  * There are a number of lines in this song that stuck out to me as references to Osamu Dazai and his works. Dazai is considered to be one of the most important Japanese modern writers. His works depict topics such as:  human nature, mental illness, social relationships, and postwar Japan. Although his life was a sad one, he was a man wholeheartedly dedicated to his works. He attempted suicide four times (two of them being double suicides) throughout his lifetime (his fifth attempt was a success and like half of the others, was a double suicide). * “ Tamagawajōsui “ This line is a reference to the site of Dazai’s death. Dazai along side his mistress, Tomie Yamazaki, committed a double suicide and drowned in the Tamagawa Canal outside his home in Mitaka, Tokyo in 1948. * “ The double suicide “Setting Sun’s” love “   “The Setting Sun” or “Shoyu” is the name of one of Dazai’s major works. * “ Farewell to these two people… Good Bye “  “グッド・バイ”  or “Good Bye” is the name of Dazai’s final piece of work. Sadly, it remains unfinished to this day. * ” You alone will die a dog’s death “ As I mentioned before, Dazai had attempted suicide four times. All four were unsuccessful and two of them were double suicides. The first double suicide coincided with his second attempt at taking his own life. After being expelled from his aristocratic family for running away with a geisha, he met a nineteen year old hostess by the name, Shimeko Tanabe. The two of them attempted a double suicide by drowning themselves at a  Kamakura beach in Kanagawa Prefecture. Tanabe ended up drowning, but Dazai was saved by a fishing boat. His second attempt at a double suicide was with the geisha he previously ran away with, Hatsuyo Oyama. After the previous failed attempt at double suicide with Tanabe, Dazai married Oyama. During the time Dazai spent in a mental institution, Oyama committed adultery with Dazai’s best friend. This is what led them to try and overdose on sleeping pills. Neither one of them ended up dying. As a result of the failed double suicide and her betrayal, Dazai divorced her. In the music video for “One-Piece Shinjuu”, the lyrics for this line is displayed as “ あなたひとり 犬死 “. In the lyric booklet, it shows “ あなたひとり Dog Die".  “犬死” and “die a dog’s death” are equivalents to each other. Both mean dying in a dishonorable, miserable, or shameful way. There is no honor in dying in the ways Dazai attempted. There is no honor in taking your own life. There is no honor in taking another’s life along with your own. This is at heart, the message behind Temma’s lyrics. __________________________________________________ “One-Piece Shinjuu” Music Video! “One Piece Shinjuu” Music Video (with subtitles)!
