1945: My End
Italy is disappointed. Like so many leaders before, I have let down my people, and myself. I damaged the pride of our country, when I promised to restore it. The empire is weak, the economy is weak, the materials are weak, the supplies are weak. I never feared such a status, if anything, it would never be my fault it has become what it is. Yet, I’m the one to blame. My army was known and feared as one of the largest, however maybe that too was a facade, a lie so we could believe that we were going to succeed. We didn’t. My so-called “most powerful army” was overpowered by the Greeks in a foolish attempt to gain territory and power. Il Duce is no more. I was voted out, arrested, and exiled. Adolf Hitler. A man who once stood below me, is now the most feared man of all, the once clown, became the ringmaster. When I was abandoned by my own people, he still held his respect. He attempted to put me in a position of power in the German occupied territory, the leader of the Italian Social Republic. However, even that was for his own gain. After he gets what he wants, the extermination of thousands of my own people, he assures me that I’ll be transported with my mistress out of the country. It’s queer, really. I’ve done so much for them. I have gifted them with the religious concept of Fascism. Even when I presented the freedom that they have longed for for so long, men are still tired of liberty. They are tired of me. Seven years ago, I was an interesting person. Now, I am little more than a corpse.

1940: My Pact of Steel
Contrary to my initial beliefs, Hitler’s influence and potential were much greater than I anticipated. To illustrate, he seems to acknowledge the superiority of the Aryan race and the Jews’ inferiority, a view shared by few others. We share a common destiny, I suppose. Soon, he inspired me to implement anti-Jewish laws in Italy, something I naturally already planned on doing. Finally, that was my chance to expel them. As they deserve. In terms of international affairs, a second World War has begun. In truth, as I suspected from the beginning, their treaty was a false promise of hope, and was never bound to last. We remained neutral until Germany invaded Denmark and Norway. I am now convinced I had picked the right ally. Shortly after that, Hitler and I signed the “Pact of Steel” to officially create the Axis powers, and as expected, Italy eventually involved itself and the world shall witness the power of our people. Only yesterday did I officially declare war on France and Great Britain. Yes, Italy has failed in the past. This was the past, but we, fascists, don't live in the past. We tend to the future, and we feel like a creation of our will lying on agitation of victory. I am confident in Italy and myself, together we shall regain our pride as an empire. For war alone brings up to their highest tension all human energies and imposes the stamp of nobility upon the peoples who have the courage to make it.

1937: My Control
My power is growing everyday. I wasted no time invading and conquering countries to grow my empire. Abyssinia was mine by 1935 and Libya by 1937. Those who continued to stand against Italy’s will, my will, were hung to reveal their cowardness in front of their own followers. Not only is North Africa in the palm of my hands, but I have done my duty as an ally and aided Spain in their Civil War with multiple resources. Francisco Franco owes me more than he can count. Not only shall I have Italy under my complete control, however soon others will merely feel like puppets attached to my strings. As my contribution grew internationally, I had the opportunity, or shall I say misfortune, of meeting the “Duce” of Germany. A mere fanboy who sent me a letter long ago. Adolf Hitler. Quite amusing, like a clown in a circus. To maintain status and respect, I praised his efforts and offered him some of my personal tactics. Truthfully, he was boring. He had refined and simplistic ideas that were of barely any use to his country. I made sure that my manners were unwavering, however I give Germany my prayers as long as it’s under his leadership. To be frank, we both possessed the courage to leave the League of Nations. We laugh at that mockery of what peace is believed to be. To add, even though he may think we are “similar”, it goes without a doubt that there is only one Duce. And he is I. I come from the families of ancient Rome, whereas they are the descendants of those who were illiterate when Rome had Caesar, Virgil, and Augustus. My blood has come from the all powerfuls. Nothing can compare to that. Niente.

1930: My Rule
As Italy’s finest, I awakened order from the deepest depths of chaos. There was only one clear way to do this, that being the abolishment of any obstacles that dare soil my land further. Opposing parties, trade unions, the old way of Italy. Outlawed and gone. I cannot allow more rotten fruit to sicken my people. Those who tell lies must be punished accordingly, an idea preached in grade school. That includes the slow-witted socialists and cretinous communists. My people must have the freedom to watch, read, and listen to the truth. You would assume that my countless efforts would have proven my loyalty and the nature of my intentions regarding the country. However, there are still sullen weeds in my garden of prosperity. Try to silence me. I speak louder. Do not play with the tail of a lion, without expecting it to bite you back. Yet, without even taking action, that has been done. Will of nature. Giacomo Matteotti, among others, gone. I can assure you that I shall not meet the same fate. The just remain, and I remain just.

1925: My Path To Leadership
We have made great progress. I’m getting closer and closer to reaching the top, and unlike the cowards I so shamefully share the parliament with, I take actual action. Furthermore, I do not delude my people and feed them a sickening guise; democracy. One that would only lead to failure and downfall. I aided my country by preventing the strike for which the government held the responsibility and means to eliminate, yet would never lift a finger to do so themselves, and so, I had enough. All of Italy and its people know my capabilities, and they’re all angry. It is time. We decided that either the government would have been ours for the taking, or we would have snatched it from their filthy hands ourselves. We had naught to lose. It was my turn. My soldiers, the Fascists, advanced in unison, we knew what we wanted, and we were getting it. No matter the cost. Truth be told, the people were with us now, with me. If there are no people, what does the government truly have other than their sad facade? Nothing. We have the power, we are the power. And the power always wins. We marched, the words “Rome, Rome, Rome” echoed passionately throughout the city, the roars of lions. Naturally, the government had no choice, nowhere to run. They ultimately turned to me and stood below me at my feet. The country is in my hands now, like I knew it should’ve been all these years.  It was not long before they realized my true potential. That I was destined for more than a mere Prime Minister. That I was Il Duce. The leader.

1921: My Pride
Returning to Italy was a sore flight. While struggles were managed, it is now crystal clear that Italy is in need of a worthy individual to step up. A man who is ruthless and energetic enough to make a clean sweep. What the herd needs is a shepherd. What Italy needs is a leader. Furthermore, even the countries ranking highest in power need guidance in order to move forward, the war explored their potential, however the end diminished it yet again. The Treaty of Versailles called for the unity of France, when in reality it shall only divide its poor people further. That is an issue only the finest can take on. Therefore, I gathered those I believe are capable and formed my pride, “Italian Fasces of Combat”. War veterans, republicans, anarchists, syndicalists, discontented socialists, and revolutionaries all together. Those who have seen and now know it all. Those who have been let down and disappointed by our leaders countless times. We shall make a change, even if by force, it is what has to be done for a greater nation, for a greater people. That reality is getting closer as the people are starting to awaken. Union and party offices and government institutions were targeted, a clear sign of who the country is angry at and what needs to change. As it became too much for our coward of a king, Victor Emmanuel III, to handle, the previous parliament was disbanded and I took my seat as a deputy in the new parliament of Italy. The members of my now “National Fascist Party” are known and feared across the country and called “Black Shirts.” Let us march forward. Let us have a dagger between our teeth, a bomb in our hands, and an infinite scorn in our hearts.

1917: My Battle
Alas, war has begun. Despite the socialists’ wishes, Italy finally showed a sliver of its potential and joined the great battle taking place in the society around us. I am among the citizens of my beloved country, the least I could do is fight with the people to show the might of Italy. Previously, I would’ve resided among the fools who cling to their ideals. Socialism, the fraud, the comedy, the phantom, a blackmail. On the battlefield, I witnessed the real change that is needed to restore Italy. Before me, the men which I once called sheep, let their lions roar to the drums of war. Even so, with courage comes consequences. The prey fight back, and at times the lions are injured. Likewise, I’m ashamed to say that I am bedridden for the time being, yet if we don’t fall, how do we rise? Having experienced war firsthand, I am now positive that Italy must fight like it did centuries ago. Our country is fully capable of standing among empires such as France and the United Kingdom, however Italy’s current rulers are incompetent and must fall for the people and for the greatness of my country. That is a job, I, Benito Mussolini shall dedicate my life to and accomplish, for no one else is more fit than I.

1914: My Awakening
Now that I recall, ever since childhood, I’ve only been slowed down by those around me, they fool no one but themselves. Multiple times have I been apprehended and kicked for fighting my own battles, a right of any human. The most prominent case being a blessing in disguise. Getting kicked from the local newspaper due to my “controversial” ideas allowed me to take initiative and establish my own. “For the people” is what I’m calling it, where I can express the true way through which Italy shall regain its former pride. How I long to see the glorious Italy, rise from the ashes and shine like it did in the time of Julius Caesar himself. Undoubtedly, if the socialist party wishes to accomplish its goals, they must be willing to fight. Truth be told, I did not always see it this way, however the works of Karl Marx have uncovered the path to power, that being to stop hiding from the inevitability of war. A fool wishes to live in delusion in order to remain at peace, however in order to move forward, that false state must be disrupted and one must awaken to the reality of battle. Evolve from a mere sheep to lion.
