The best piece of advice I ever got was not meant as advice, but as an edict. If I was going to threaten people as a joke, it had to be so far out of proportion with what happened that it would be obvious I was joking. This changed how I expressed frustration with others. It then changed how I expressed frustration with myself.

Not “I’m going to hit you” but “I am going to buy a tuna sub from the gas station and hide it under the seat of your car”

Not “I’m going to kill myself” but “I am going to walk into the desert and let the scarabs take me”

The other side then happened. When I mess something up, instead of saying it’s bad and perpetuating negative thoughts, swing hard the other way.

Not “this art is terrible” but “this shall be framed and mounted on the wall in my museum exhibition as testament to the suffering I had to overcome”

Have been doing this since high school. It was my drama teacher who asked me to please stop scaring the actors. The other half of the edict was that I had to say it in a polite tone, and end it with either please or thank you.

Life changing. 10/10 Mr Muëller. Highly reccomend.

And yet, the mainstream media has been framing this as Iran, for no reason (other than ohhh evil Iran), just decided to launch attacks on Israel.

Almost no mention that Israel blatantly violated the Geneva convention or that Iran said that they would refrain from retaliating if Israel and the U.S. agreed to a ceasefire.

And the Biden administration is going right along with this, they are so far beyond morally bankrupt at this point and I am utterly disgusted to call myself an American.

Shame on Joe Biden, his administration and any Democrat who, for the past 6 months, have had a roll in leading us to where we are now, the risk of a wider regional war, and 35,000 Palestinians murdered all because they have so little humanity that the lives of Palestinians mean less than nothing to them.

There is a special place in hell for these ghouls and I hope they never know a moment of peace for the rest of their miserable, despicable lives.

I almost wonder if there'll eventually be a reveal that black swan isn't a run-of-the-mill memokeeper but actually a memosnatcher or at least a radical memokeeper.

The way the memokeeper on board the express explains it, memokeepers have pretty strict rules to follow (that radicals have found a way around) or they would cease to exist i.e. no peeping, and it's implied they're only supposed to collect memories without actively engaging, since it would taint the natural memories.

The way black swan behaves seems more in line with the radicals. She's already tried peeping into Acheron's memories, manipulated Sparkle and Sampo's memories (though only briefly) and generally just being incredibly hands-on, almost moving pieces around in order to presumably get more interesting memories. Not to mention her almost obsessive one-sided cat-and-mouse game with Acheron now.

In her words, there are things she avoids doing because they "violate her aesthetics of memories", which is interesting because why would that be her guideline rather than the rules Fuli has laid down for memokeepers?

I just think there's even more to her than meets the eye than there already is. She's also a deceptively self-indulgent person, with a lot of her actions seemingly driven by personal desire, which is strange since memokeepers apparently do not experience human emotion anymore like regular humans do after giving up their physical bodies.

2.1 spoilers but I think the funniest part about Aventurine and Ratio's scene was that every single thing that Aventurine said and Ratio dismissed ended up being 100% accurate.

"Those look more like torment eagles than nightingales."

"They're nightingales."

They were torment eagles.

"This little device reminds me of a story about a person who got shrunken--"

"Why are you talking nonsense?"

Aventurine immediately shrinks.

It was a perfect showcase for how Aventurine's practiced frivolity ensures that everyone will underestimate and dismiss him, all while his incredible observational skills and out-of-the-box thinking give him the best situational awareness of anyone in the room.

Ratio is literally the equal of those in the Genius Society and uses his extreme intelligence to figure out what's going on on Penacony--but Aventurine, even without that level of education, figured everything out on his own and was able to manipulate every variable at once to get exactly the outcome he wanted.

Aventurine is talented and incredibly resilient--despite the overwhelming amount of suffering he has experienced--and still manages to do it all with a levity and earnestness that the devs captured perfectly through contrast with Ratio's serious, no-nonsense approach.

Just fantastic writing. 2.1 was really a treat.

I’d just like to acknowledge that South Africa wouldn’t have such a strong case without the work of the journalists, both alive and martyred, on the ground in Gaza supplying the world with firsthand information about the genocide and that they deserve thanks for it.

When South Africa dismantled apartheid, it did not end with the expulsion of all white South Africans. They became part of the new South Africa, just without the criminal discriminatory oligarchic powers the apartheid goverment had. When Bolivia recognized its indigenous heritage and became a plurinational state, it did not mean that people of European descent were expelled in masse. It meant the recognition of the previously discriminated indigenous and mestizo people of Bolivia and the beginning of a path of integration and revalidation.

What I mean is that it's ridiculous to think that decolonization inherently means mass suffering and relocation, that's what colonization does. Decolonization is recognizing the crimes of colonization, but more importantly, material, political and social steps to give power and self-determination to the exploited native people who were victims of colonialism and imperialism.

In multicultural societies, you don't go like in that Peter Griffin meme with a skin tone chart and saying 'well, you go back to Europe, you go back to Africa, you stay here'. You build a new society on the paradigm of dignity for exploited people and equality under the law. People are acting like this is some sort of fantastic utopia instead of real initiatives that were done in living memory, with successes and failures, as all such initiatives have. One must ask why are some so insistent that multicultural societies can't thrive, especially when for most of history, societies were indeed like that. Consider why you think like that.

Very pleased with the effort by the South African team. I'm too scared to hope that anything effectual will come of this, but it's important that there was a cohesive, honest, and powerful argument and timeline with extensive documentation put forth to the world, even if the world rejects it. The last couple of months were a whole lot of passive voice and insultingly vague headlines that it's truly a comfort to see a straightforward accusation.
