head canon (?) that light has been so uptight his whole life and doesn’t really let himself smile or joke a lot bc he has these like weird image he has of himself but he meets L who shows him to find the humor in life (this is so messy but i just had a vision of this) sdjdjfksnfj

YES, I understand what you mean!!! This also reminds me of a post by @gh0stbeeee where Lawlight are the only ones that can make the other ugly laugh!

I think it would start with L muttering responses to stuff the task force says under his breath and because Light is sitting so close he hears and he desperately has to hold himself back from laughing. Eventually it gets to the point where Light is turning red from trying to stop himself from laughing so hard. Eventually L would realize this and amp it up some, make more comments and just do more trying to get Light to fully laugh, cackle, something more than turning red and looking odd.

I think to tie in with this one, the head canon that Light’s crazy evil laugh is just his normal laugh. So when L finally manages to get Light to actually laugh as much as he’d like to say he though it was immediately cute, he actually was quite alarmed. He obviously found it adorable later on, also fun fact! Light also snorts when he laughs!

Eventually L can get Light in moods where he finds anything that L does as absolutely hilarious and is just curled up clutching his stomach from how hard he is laughing. L knocks something off the table slowly and Light is crying from laughing so hard.

In the beginning he still would hide it around his family but once him and L are like together he’s not afraid to be more open like that around others. His family is quite shocked to hear Light truly laugh for the first time. Overall this is a super cute head canon thanks for sending it in!!

L (idly, eating cake): Let's get married.

Light (internally): Yes! If I accept his proposal, I'll be able to get his real name from the marriage certificate, all while getting closer to him so he doesn't suspect me. It's perfect! But wait, isn't that exactly the kind of thing that would make me look more suspicious? Kira would never pass up an opportunity to learn his greatest enemy's true name and eliminate him. Still, if I reject him, I'll seem just cold. Which will definitely make me look more like Kira. We've been dating for a while, isn't it natural that Light Yagami would accept? I can't seem too eager... I'll just tell him that I want to wait until we catch Kira. That way I'll come off as genuine while not arousing suspicion.

L (internally): If he tells me he wants to wait until the case is over, the chance he's Kira increases by ten percent.

married!lawlight with surrendered-the-notebook!light is fun for all the other reasons but I don't think you are fully appreciating the humor. the potential. the pettiness when they are solving a crime together. they found the evidence and the criminal who crippled/killed multiple people is put in court. he gets 10 months of house arrest because the case was in new zealand or something. light and L hear the verdict. light is staring holes into L's head. if they only had a magical device that could resolve this very issue. something that could correct a screw up in justice system. wouldn't that be nice. L is very pointedly looking everywhere but him.

Was thinking about Light Yagami—again, help—and thought "If Light Yagami wants something, then he's going to get it" but then I realized. No. No, that's not right. Because Light is also the type of guy to convince himself that he doesn't want things. So like,,,only in surges of destructive behavior does he insist on getting what he wants.

Someone spills wine on Light's shirt? Laugh it off but start up a thirty-two step plan to ruin their life.

Light wants some ice cream? No he doesn't. What are you talking about? He's never wanted any sort of dessert in his life because that would be childish and also selfish of him.

An uncle called him a 'sissy boy' for playing the piano? Uncover the drugs in his car and, if there aren't any, plant some. Make sure they're discovered at the largest family gathering possible in front of plenty of witnesses. He will spend seven years in jail.

Light likes a certain band and wants to listen to their music, go to a concert even? Nope. Never heard of them. Who? He doesn't need CDs and his father just bought him a computer for school so really a music player would be excess. Plus he's not one of those heathens that likes to study to music, obviously.

And thinking about that, I think L breaks him out of that mindset by teasing out Light's pettiness. L turns everything into a challenge, a game to win, so Light's more "foolish" wants are no longer childish—they're a victory. L turns Light's simplest desires into petty revenge, and so he'll chase them.

Light would never ask or even search for an expensive gourmet breakfast food on his own, but handcuff him to L and have him watch his every meal, then Light's damn well going to make sure he enjoys it. Light wants silk pajamas because the sheets are uncomfortable, Ryuzaki, really—it has nothing to do with the fact that you turned the thermostat down when Light said he was cold. Suddenly Light enjoys ice cream again but only when it comes from L's bowl when he's not looking.
